- Amnesiac Fiancé Married Another, So I Married His Brother
- Chapter 61 - Haven't Forgotten the Vow You Made Before
The November morning was cold and windy outside, but warm and peaceful indoors.
In the dining room, Xiao Qiyu glanced at the empty seat.
Huo Zhenzhou, who was always an early riser and never missed breakfast, hadn’t come downstairs yet.
Then she noticed the unusual silence from Huo Xuanye and Li Su. Had something happened last night that they didn’t know about?
She vaguely remembered hearing knocking sounds in the night.
What on earth was going on?
“Why hasn’t your brother come down yet?” the elderly madam asked casually.
“I don’t know anything about his business,” Huo Xuanye replied, having barely slept all night.
Beside him, Li Su had slept soundly.
His brother had regained his memories, yet she was so calm about it.
If it weren’t for accompanying her to breakfast, Huo Xuanye wouldn’t have gotten out of bed either.
He, too, wanted to lie in bed and contemplate life.
Just then, footsteps echoed from outside the dining room.
Huo Zhenzhou walked in, dressed in a simple white shirt and black trousers, a dark gray tie, his hair slicked back in a sharp, handsome style, and a new watch on his wrist.
Li Su only needed one glance to feel a wave of familiarity wash over her.
Huo Zhenzhou had clearly put thought into his outfit today.
That tie was a gift she had given him when they were dating.
The watch on his wrist was likely the custom birthday present she had ordered for him in Italy.
He must have received it yesterday.
Huo Xuanye’s mind blared red alarms… Danger! Danger! Danger!!
His brother, freshly recovered, was already turning up the pressure on day one.
Li Su’s favorite hairstyle.
The tie she had once given him.
What was he trying to do?
Last night’s words had still allowed Huo Xuanye to comfort himself, his brother had just regained his memories and was drunk.
But today, Huo Zhenzhou was schooling him.
His brother’s intentions to steal his wife were serious.
A newly single, memory-restored brother, formidable competition.
Huo Xuanye’s fighting spirit ignited.
So what? He and Li Su were already married!
“A-Zhou seems different today,” Xiao Qiyu remarked first.
Huo Zhenzhou sat down expressionlessly, then dropped a bombshell. “Mom, I’ve regained my memories.”
Xiao Qiyu froze.
Regained his memories?
Completely?
She silently pinched her husband’s arm beside her.
Huo Bowen muttered, “That hurts. It’s real, not a dream.”
Xiao Qiyu released his arm, and Huo Bowen quickly added, “That’s good, that’s good. Should we go to the hospital today for a full check-up?”
Huo Zhenzhou’s gaze swept meaningfully over Li Su across the table. “I will.”
The elderly madam was so moved she shed tears. “Heaven has blessed us, heaven has blessed us. My eldest grandson is fine now. May he be safe and healthy from now on.”
Huo Xuanye lowered his eyes. Safe and healthy?
Peace was probably the last thing they’d have from now on.
Beside them, the old master Huo frowned deeply.
If Huo Zhenzhou had regained his memories, then… wouldn’t he remember that his current sister-in-law was once his fiancée?
His outfit today was identical to how he dressed when he was dating Li Su.
The Huo family had already endured too much turmoil recently.
They had become the laughingstock of the capital.
The old master decided to give a preemptive warning. “Whatever happened in the past is over. From today onward, you’re a new person. Let’s start fresh.”
“Yes, yes, a fresh start. We’ll pretend the past never happened,” the elderly madam chimed in.
She was referring to Zhou Motang.
“Grandma, every experience in life is important. How can we pretend it never happened? If it weren’t for that Zhou Motang’s father, my wife’s leg wouldn’t have been injured. Right now, she should have been shining on the international stage, but instead, she’s stuck at home recovering.” Huo Xuanye seemed to be spouting some philosophical life lesson.
In reality, he was subtly reminding his brother that he had been married before and had an ex-wife.
Think about it.
How could Li Su possibly still love him?
Even if they were once inseparable, after everything that’s happened, any love between them would have long since faded.
“I’m sorry,” Huo Zhenzhou began with an apology.
Li Su couldn’t bring herself to say it was fine when it clearly wasn’t.
It mattered to her.
It mattered a great deal.
The pain of her injury was hers alone to bear.
The difficulty of rehabilitation was hers alone to endure.
What was destroyed was her career, her life’s stage.
Li Su remained silent, eating her meal unhurriedly.
The others could feel the awkward tension spreading.
Li Su was the one who had been hurt, none of them had the right to forgive on her behalf.
Meanwhile, Huo Xuanye picked up his phone and sent Huo Zhenzhou a message.
Even though they were sitting across from each other at the dining table, he still chose to text.
Huo Zhenzhou opened WeChat and saw a short, few-second-long video.
Then he remembered.
This was a video Huo Xuanye had recorded on his phone the night before their wedding, during his bachelor party.
The video contained only one sentence.
He had said: I swear that after I regain my memories, I won’t steal Huo Xuanye’s wife.
At the time, he had been recalling fragments of the past but hadn’t yet remembered his relationship with Li Su.
He had confidently declared that he was married and would never have anything to do with Li Su.
But now…
He remembered everything.
Only then did he understand why so many people had believed he would regret it once his memories returned.
And he did regret it.
So much so that he wanted to strangle his past, amnesiac self.
After sending the message, Huo Xuanye set his phone down and said, “Brother, congratulations on regaining your memories. I’m sure everything that’s happened recently has left a deep impression on you. You wouldn’t go back on your promise, would you?”
Even though Huo Zhenzhou hadn’t opened the video, he should have remembered what he had said.
Huo Zhenzhou replied in a low voice, “I remember.”
This answer didn’t satisfy Huo Xuanye.
His brother said he remembered.
Not that he would keep the promise.
After breakfast, Huo Xuanye accompanied Li Su to her room for rehabilitation.
A stationary bike had been added to the room.
While Li Su pedaled, Huo Xuanye sat nearby, staring blankly at her back.
Amid the background music, Li Su asked curiously, “What promise did your brother make to you?”
Ah.
Huo Xuanye sighed inwardly.
Judging by his brother’s outfit this morning, he was sure Huo Zhenzhou had completely forgotten his vow.
Huo Xuanye huffed, “He promised that after regaining his memories, he wouldn’t steal my wife.”
Huh?
Huo Zhenzhou had made that kind of promise?
When had that happened?
“So you don’t trust him?”
“Did you see how he dressed this morning? It was obviously meant to tempt you! To seduce you! He was reminding you, I’ve got my memories back now, I remember everything, and I love you! Didn’t you hear him begging you to divorce me last night?”
“He got divorced, and now he wants us to divorce too!”
“As if the world revolves around him. He can’t have everything his way.”
Huo Xuanye walked over to Li Su’s side. “You said last night that you wouldn’t divorce me because of him. You weren’t lying to me, were you?”
“Vows are the most useless things.”
She and Huo Zhenzhou had also sworn undying love before, yet in the end, they each married someone else.
“That’s not true~”
Li Su’s gaze was tender. “Why don’t you go back to your room and catch up on some sleep?”
Huo Xuanye’s eyes were bloodshot, clearly showing signs of exhaustion.
“I want to stay with you.”
“How can you keep me company when you’re so tired?” Li Su kissed him lightly. “Go to sleep.”
Obedient after being kissed by his wife, Huo Xuanye dutifully went back to his room to rest.
