- Chapter 58 - Scammed, Out of Money and Falls Ill
“Big news! Huge news!”
“Susu!”
After Huo Xuanye left for work, Li Su had breakfast and went back to her room to catch up on sleep.
She was woken up by Chi Qingche’s messages.
Huo Zhenzhou had been away on a business trip to California for a week and still hadn’t returned. Huo Xuanye complained every day about not wanting to go to the office but still had to attend meetings.
Li Su lazily answered the voice call and placed her phone aside, closing her eyes again to rest.
So sleepy~
“Susu, Susu, are you listening?”
“Mhm, go on…”
Compared to Chi Qingche’s excited and animated voice, Li Su sounded weak and groggy, clearly still half-asleep.
“It’s about that woman, Zhou Motang, your ex-fiancé’s ex-wife. She got scammed! Now she’s not only broke but also in debt.”
“Tsk tsk tsk, serves her right!”
“She knew Huo Zhenzhou had a fiancée, knew exactly who he was, yet she still tricked him into marriage, stole your fiancé, and even caused your leg injury. Now she’s been scammed too, left with nothing but the clothes on her back.”
Hearing this, Li Su suddenly snapped awake.
She sat up, listening to Chi Qingche’s rambling while scrolling through the news online.
After Zhou Motang divorced Huo Zhenzhou and took the money, the pig-butchering scam targeting her began.
Those young, handsome men were all sweet-talkers, calling her “big sister” left and right, completely bewitching the recently divorced Zhou Motang, who was still reeling from her breakup.
She took them out to play, partying, traveling, investing in all sorts of “guaranteed profitable” ventures. In the end, she lost everything and even owed money.
Not only was she broke, but it was also revealed that one of those young men had an STD, which Zhou Motang contracted as well.
What a tragic turn of events.
But it was all her own doing.
With that astronomical divorce settlement, she could have lived comfortably for the rest of her life. Yet, she ended up like this.
“Today is a good day,” Chi Qingche hummed cheerfully.
Li Su replied softly, “Indeed.”
Chi Qingche sighed regretfully, “Too bad you’re not fully recovered yet. We can’t go shopping.”
Li Su smiled, “Shopping doesn’t necessarily mean going out.”
Chi Qingche immediately understood. “Ah, have everything delivered to your place, right? Got it. I’m coming over too. Gotta bask in the glory of the Second Young Madam of the Huo family.”
Li Su: “Wrong.”
Chi Qingche corrected herself: “The glory of Miss Li!!!”
Outside the Huo Corporation building, dark clouds loomed overhead, evoking the ancient poetic imagery of “black clouds pressing down, threatening to crush the city.”
Huo Xuanye strode forward in a tailored, high-end black suit, followed by several towering bodyguards.
His imposing aura was sharp and intimidating.
Zhou Motang’s legs trembled. “Why are you here? I was looking for Huo Zhenzhou.”
“Bad timing. My brother’s been on a business trip abroad for a week and hasn’t returned yet.”
Huo Xuanye’s eyes carried a careless, roguish smirk as he looked at Zhou Motang like she was nothing more than an ant he could crush at any moment.
Turns out, Huo Xuanye had been relatively polite to her before.
The Huo Xuanye standing before her now was the true untouchable young master, high above ordinary people.
“Then… can you contact him for me? A’Ye, we were once family. I was scammed, trapped in a scheme.”
“I just need a little money to pay off my debts. I swear I’ll never appear in front of you all again.”
Huo Xuanye scoffed coldly, finding her pleading posture still insufficient to quell his anger.
If it weren’t for this woman, Li Su would never have gotten hurt.
“Words from you are as worthless as farts, who would believe you?” Huo Xuanye’s gaze was filled with disdain. “Ms. Zhou, divorce means that from now on, you have no connection whatsoever with the Huo family. Understand?”
Zhou Motang roared, “Huo Xuanye, you can’t be this heartless! My grandfather saved your brother’s life!”
“Your father broke my wife’s leg,” Huo Xuanye’s eyes lowered, settling on her legs. “Are you willing to trade yours for hers?”
Zhou Motang recoiled in terror.
Horrifying.
Huo Xuanye was nothing short of a demon!
Zhou Motang couldn’t bear the thought of losing her legs. She begged Huo Xuanye to be magnanimous. “You’re so wealthy, can’t you help me? My father should be responsible for his own actions!”
Huo Xuanye’s expression turned icy. “If you hadn’t told him how jealous you were of Li Su, how her presence threatened your position in the Huo family, how much you hated her, your father would never have laid a hand on her. Zhou Motang, you’re far from innocent.”
Zhou Motang refused to listen, covering her ears and shaking her head.
She couldn’t accept how drastically her life had fallen apart.
Three months ago, she was still the wife of the eldest Huo son.
Now, divorced and penniless.
And infected with disease.
All of this was Zhou Zhanpeng’s fault!
She hated him to the core!!!
“You’re lying to me, aren’t you? Huo Zhenzhou isn’t on a business trip, he’s hiding in the company because he doesn’t want to see me!”
With that, Zhou Motang tried to charge into the company but was blocked by the bodyguards behind Huo Xuanye.
At the slightest touch on her arm, she collapsed to the ground.
Huo Xuanye stepped aside in disgust, careful not to get even a speck on himself.
His lips curled in contempt. “What, planning to lie there and extort me?”
“I want to see Huo Zhenzhou!”
Zhou Motang lay on the ground as dark clouds gathered overhead and cold winds howled.
This wretched weather mirrored the ruin of her life!
She was convinced that if she could just see Huo Zhenzhou, her suffering would end.
Huo Zhenzhou was cold on the outside but warm-hearted, he would surely repay her debts out of respect for her grandfather.
She would weep and beg him.
Huo Xuanye’s face, so similar to Huo Zhenzhou’s, now held nothing but scorn for her.
Suddenly, two terrifying faces loomed over her.
“Aaaah!!”
Zhou Motang screamed and scrambled to her feet.
The two burly men seized her. “You owe us money and still dare to run? Come with us!”
Dragged away, Zhou Motang shrieked, demanding to see Huo Zhenzhou, then pleading for Huo Xuanye to save her.
“Shut up!”
She was shoved into a van.
Her fate was bound to be brutal.
Huo Xuanye watched the van drive off. “Delete all the surveillance footage at the entrance. What an eyesore.”
“Yes, sir.”
The moment Huo Xuanye returned home, he showered and changed.
Freshly cleaned, he found the house bustling. Li Su and Chi Qingche were lounging in delight as top-tier sales associates from luxury brands showcased the latest clothing and handbags.
That’s his wife for you!
She knew how to indulge and spend.
Chi Qingche spotted Huo Xuanye entering. “Well, Su Su, I’ll head back now. Just have the driver deliver the things I picked to my place. I won’t disturb you two any longer~”
Huo Xuanye smoothly took a seat beside Li Su. “She’s got some sense.”
The others glanced at Li Su.
Should they leave too?
“No need to go. Take your time picking, darling.” Huo Xuanye took Li Su’s hand. “Choose whatever you like, your husband’s paying.”
Li Su replied nonchalantly, “You’re too late.”
“What do you mean? Too late for what?”
He couldn’t even spend money on his wife?
Li Su smiled gently. “Mom said she’s covering today’s expenses.”
“Then I’m indeed late.” Huo Xuanye smirked mischievously. “Since Mom’s paying, we’ll take everything. You can all leave now.”
Li Su: “…”
Way to throw Mom under the bus!
Once everyone was gone, Li Su leaned against him. “Did you see Zhou Motang’s news online?”
“I did.”
“Anything to say about it?”
Huo Xuanye stroked her hand. “Serves her right.”
