- Chapter 4 - Wife, Come Stay at the Huo Residence Tonight
“Yes~”
Li Su answered softly.
“Then… do you like Huo Xuanye?” Wen Yunshang was already starting to feel upset. “Sweetheart, our family’s company is doing very well now. There’s no need for you to marry for alliance. You don’t have to be with someone from the Huo family. Please think it over again.”
“Mom, Dad, getting married might have been an impulsive decision, but I’m not a child anymore. I have to take responsibility for my actions.” Li Su set down her juice. “Besides, Huo Xuanye looks a lot like Huo Zhenzhou.”
Wen Yunshang was shocked. “You’re using him as a substitute, and he’s okay with that?”
Li Su replied calmly, “He was the one who proposed marriage, and he was also the one who said he’d be the substitute.”
Even Li Su hadn’t expected Huo Xuanye to be so clear about his own role.
Li Ruifeng stood up and left. This was getting out of hand… his daughter seemed to be throwing caution to the wind. Her fiancé had lost his memory and married someone else, so now she was looking for a substitute?
And of all people, the younger brother of her ex-fiancé.
The Huo family was going to be in complete chaos.
He had to call his eldest son and get Li Chen back home immediately.
This was a family emergency!
“Huo Xuanye doesn’t seem reliable at all. How could he rush you into a flash marriage? He knows full well about your history with Huo Zhenzhou, what is he thinking?” Wen Yunshang looked deeply troubled. “First, he called you sister-in-law, and now he’ll call you wife. This is too messy, too messy.”
Li Su also thought it was a bit messy.
But messy was good.
Why should the person who betrayed her get to live a smooth, carefree life while she suffered?
“Mom, Dad, I’ll leave the dowry preparations to you. I’m heading to the dance studio now.” Li Su stood up and left.
As she walked out, she saw her father’s back, no doubt calling her brother to tattle on her.
What was there to fear?
Her fiancé had lost his memory and married someone else. She was the one who’d been wronged. Her brother would never blame her!
Summer in the capital was undeniably scorching and dry.
Sunlight filtered through rustling leaves into the dance studio, where Li Su, dressed in simple dancewear, tirelessly repeated her movements.
Huo Xuanye leaned lazily against the doorframe, watching her.
After his brother had gone missing for three months, Li Su had been devastated at first, unable to eat, sleep, or stop crying. She spent every day with the search teams, missing several scheduled performances and paying hefty breach-of-contract fees. She had lost a lot of weight.
Only after two months of fruitless searching did Li Su slowly begin to recover from her despair.
During that time, Huo Xuanye, worried about her, had often come to check on her.
As a result, the people at the dance studio were already familiar with him and didn’t stop him from entering.
The studio had mirrors on three sides, so Li Su had noticed Huo Xuanye’s arrival long ago.
She finished her planned routine before picking up a bottle of water and walking toward him.
“What’s up?”
Huo Xuanye had been ready to twist the cap open for her, but she did it herself.
Li Suhadn’t yet learned to rely on him.
Huo Xuanye straightened up leisurely. “Taking you to buy a diamond ring.”
“I want a custom one.”
Huo Xuanye agreed readily. “Fine. Then let’s go buy some clothes.”
“I want limited edition.”
“Fine.”
Li Su had been pampered since childhood, a true young lady. Just because she was marrying him didn’t mean her standard of living should drop.
“The custom ring and limited-edition clothes won’t arrive today, so let’s get something temporary first. Starting tonight, you’re coming to live with me at the Huo residence.” Huo Xuanye met her gaze evenly. “Excited? Thrilled?”
“Judging by your expression, you seem quite eager.” Li Su leisurely tightened the bottle cap. “Huo Xuanye, Huo Zhenzhou is your own brother. When he regains his memory and we get married, how will you face him?”
There wasn’t a trace of guilt in Huo Xuanye’s eyes, only a hint of smug arrogance. “Precisely because he’s my brother, I’m marrying you. I’m atoning for his sins, so, wife, you can torment me all you want~”
Li Su thought of Huo Xuanye’s peculiar kinks. “Actually, I’m a very gentle person with absolutely no violent tendencies.”
“What a shame~”
Was he a pervert?
And he actually felt disappointed?
Li Su walked away. “I’ll go change first.”
Huo Xuanye called after her loudly, “Wife, I’ll be waiting for you!”
Li Su paused mid-step and glared back at him.
Why was he shouting?
Everyone in the dance troupe knew her fiancé had been missing for three months. Now, suddenly, she was married.
As expected, the dancers stopped practicing and craned their necks out the door to gawk at Huo Xuanye.
“Did I hear that right? The second young master Huo just called Li Su ‘wife’!”
“No mistake, I heard it too!”
“But wasn’t Li Su engaged to the eldest Huo brother?”
“The eldest Huo has been missing for three months. I guess the family’s given up on finding him.”
“Oh, I get it now. It’s a business marriage since the eldest is gone, they’ve swapped in the second son.”
“Honestly, they look pretty good together.”
Huo Xuanye, who had been indifferent a moment ago, suddenly glanced toward the speaker. So there was someone in the dance troupe with good taste.
He made a mental note to give that person two extra red envelopes at the wedding.
But to everyone else, Huo Xuanye’s gaze carried an entirely different message, a silent warning not to gossip. They quickly retreated back into the dance studio to resume practice.
The hallway was now empty, save for Huo Xuanye standing alone.
Huo Xuanye gripped his phone, looking skeptical. “Do I have some kind of virus on me?”
Weird.
A short while later, Li Su reappeared before him, now changed.
She wore a flowing ink-wash print sundress, her long hair, previously tied up for practice, now cascading in loose waves over her shoulders. A touch of light makeup and lipstick accentuated her soft, graceful features, making her look every bit the gentle, elegant beauty.
Every lovely word in the dictionary could be used to describe Li Su.
“Let’s go,” she said softly.
So she hadn’t refused his request to stay at the Huo residence tonight.
He was already looking forward to how lively the house would be from now on.
As dusk fell, the scorching sun dimmed its harsh glare, casting a golden glow over the clouds, shifting from bright blue-white to warm hues of orange and red.
Department store staff, led by Zhuang Ze, filed into the hall carrying an array of women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories.
Xiao Qiyu, bewildered, asked coldly, “Zhuang Ze, who ordered all this?”
“The second young master.”
“A’Ye?”
Xiao Qiyu was even more confused.
After a moment’s thought, she said, “He’s being a good younger brother, preparing so many clothes for his sister-in-law.”
Zhuang Ze replied, “Madam, these aren’t for the eldest young madam. They’re for the second young master’s new wife.”
“What?”
“New wife?”
“Since when was he married?”
Both her sons had secretly gotten married, and she, their mother, hadn’t even known!
Zhuang Ze: “Madam, please don’t worry. The second young master and his wife are right behind us and will be back soon.”
Xiao Qiyu quickly called her husband, Huo Bowen.
The news that Huo Xuanye was bringing his newlywed wife back to the Huo residence spread throughout the entire household.
As night fell, the entire Huo family gathered at the main gate, waiting.
A familiar car pulled up to the entrance, and everyone craned their necks in anticipation.
Huo Xuanye stepped out from the driver’s seat, walked around the front of the car, and headed toward the passenger side. His smile was bright as he said, “Sorry to keep you all waiting. There was some traffic on the way.”
