Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 9
Xu Zhiyi didn’t expect to see Ruan Yang here. She froze for several seconds before slowly snapping out of it.
Once she regained her composure, she lightly arched an eyebrow and simply stared at Ruan Yang without saying a word.
What happened to the promised vacation?
Ruan Yang understood Xu Zhiyi’s silent question from that look, but she quickly averted her gaze, pretending as if she didn’t know Xu Zhiyi at all.
Still as full of ideas as ever.
Xu Zhiyi smiled faintly without speaking and turned her attention back to Wu Jun.
To an outsider, the brief exchange of glances between the two would have seemed like nothing more than a casual once-over. No one found it strange.
And no one could have guessed that these two were actually sisters living under the same roof.
“If I didn’t know better, Director Wu, I’d think you’d scouted a few more pretty actors instead of just hiring assistants,” Xu Zhiyi remarked.
Her tone was light, almost teasing, but Wu Jun, aware of the recent rumors between Xu Zhiyi and Zheng Tang, instinctively assumed she was hinting at replacing the other lead actress.
Considering that both were the main stars of his film, their previous relationship had been lukewarm, making the shoot relatively smooth.
But Zheng Tang’s recent actions had been outright ungrateful, thoroughly offending Xu Zhiyi in the process. How they would proceed with filming from here on out was still up in the air.
Wu Jun could understand if Xu Zhiyi had grievances against Zheng Tang, but reshuffling the cast mid-production would mean starting over not to mention the backlash from investors.
Clearing his throat, Wu Jun glanced at Xu Zhiyi and attempted to placate her. “Zhiyi, I know you’ve been dealing with some personal matters lately, and I sympathize. But… work is work. Zheng Tang will be back to resume filming in a couple of days. I hope you won’t let personal feelings interfere with the job, and I’d appreciate your understanding.”
Xu Zhiyi paused, quickly realizing Wu Jun had misunderstood.
She chuckled but didn’t respond.
Taking her silence as agreement, Wu Jun led his assistants to meet the other actors.
Ruan Yang followed wordlessly behind him.
“This is my first time seeing Xu Zhiyi in person, she’s so beautiful! Way prettier than on the big screen or TV!!!” Jing Ziqi, one of the two male assistants, couldn’t contain his excitement and quietly squealed.
The other male assistant, Su Xinzhi, scoffed. “She’s just alright. I’ve known Xu Zhiyi since we were kids. After seeing her for so many years, I actually think she’s pretty average…”
Ruan Yang listened silently, but at this remark, she frowned and shot Su Xinzhi a sidelong glance.
If her instincts were correct, Jing Ziqi was a Beta, while Su Xinzhi, like her, was an Alpha.
Seeing that Wu Jun ahead didn’t seem to notice their conversation, the two continued chatting.
“You call someone like Zhiyi-jie average…?” Though envious that Su Xinzhi had known Xu Zhiyi since childhood, Jing Ziqi was more curious about something else. “Speaking of which, do you think Zhiyi-jie and that Zheng Tang are really together?”
Unconsciously lacing his tone with arrogance, Su Xinzhi replied, “Xu Zhiyi wouldn’t have such poor taste. That Zheng Tang’s pheromone level is so low, who’d even want her?”
“Low pheromone level?” Jing Ziqi was a Beta and couldn’t smell these things, but his curiosity got the better of him. “But isn’t it said that her pheromone level is A? That’s not low, is it?”
“Just a persona, and you actually believe that?” Su Xinzhi scoffed. “I saw her medical report when I was observing in another crew before. It’s only a C. Yet she shamelessly puts out press releases claiming to be an A.”
“Only a C?” Jing Ziqi was genuinely surprised. “I really thought she was an A all this time.”
“Where would so many As come from?” Su Xinzhi’s tone carried a hint of pride. “Alpha with A-level pheromones are extremely rare. Let alone S-level you can count them on one hand across the entire empire.”
Jing Ziqi caught the implication in Su Xinzhi’s tone and gasped in admiration. “So you mean… you’re an A-level?”
At this, Su Xinzhi’s lips curled into a smile, and he lifted his chin proudly. “Yes, I am. My father is also an A-level Alpha.”
“An entire family of high-level Alphas!” Jing Ziqi exclaimed in awe.
In this era, both Alphas and Omegas were few in number, and high-level Alphas were especially rare.
As an A-level Alpha, Su Xinzhi had every right to be proud.
As he spoke, he suddenly noticed Ruan Yang, who had been silent the whole time beside them.
Seeing her appearance, Su Xinzhi felt a twinge of regret so beautiful, yet an Alpha.
What a shame.
Since they would be training together for a while, he decided to strike up a conversation. “Ruan Yang? I think I heard the director call you that earlier. That’s your name, right?”
Ruan Yang didn’t respond for a long while. A flicker of displeasure crossed Su Xinzhi’s eyes, but he pressed on. “We’ll be training together for over two months. No need to be so aloof…”
At this, Ruan Yang finally turned her head slightly and glanced at him, but all she offered was a faint “Mm.”
Just answering his earlier question.
This woman!
A surge of anger rose in Su Xinzhi’s chest. He came from a prestigious family, had high-level pheromones, and was here to polish his credentials and have some fun.
Everyone around him had always been obedient and flattering, this was the first time he’d encountered someone as unyielding as Ruan Yang.
He mentally noted this slight but forced a perfunctory smile. “So, what’s your pheromone level?”
He couldn’t detect any scent from Ruan Yang, nor could he gauge her pheromone level.
Ruan Yang remained silent again. Su Xinzhi clenched his fists, knuckles cracking, but after a glance at Director Wu Jun ahead, he managed to calm himself down.
Why get angry over some frigid-looking woman? She was probably just a low-level Alpha, a commoner at that. Being allowed to train alongside him should be an honor for her.
What gave her the right to act so high and mighty?!
By the time his anger simmered down, the director had already led them back to their positions. It was their first day, so they only needed to observe and get accustomed to the set.
One of the other lead actors, Zheng Tang, hadn’t shown up. According to the crew, she had taken a few days off for other commitments and wouldn’t return to the set for a while.
Ruan Yang didn’t particularly care when Zheng Tang would return. Her gaze remained fixed in a certain direction, leading others to assume she was daydreaming. Only the director, Wu Jun, followed her line of sight to see what had captured her attention.
After admiring the beautiful scenery and the even more beautiful woman for a few moments, he turned to Ruan Yang with a smile and called out, “Xiao Ruan.”
Hearing the director’s voice, Ruan Yang snapped back to attention.
“Hmm?”
Though she had been staring at Xu Zhiyi, she had still kept much of her awareness on her surroundings and the director, never neglecting her work.
Seeing Ruan Yang’s dazed expression, Wu Jun’s smile deepened.
Outwardly, she seemed cold, but it turned out there was a soft side to her after all.
He had initially worried that someone like her might be difficult to guide, fearing she lacked emotional depth.
Now, it seemed he had overthought it.
Su Xinzhi and Jing Ziqi had gone to Group B to observe, leaving only Wu Jun and Ruan Yang in the pavilion.
Wu Jun gestured toward the figure in the distance and asked, “Are you a fan of Zhiyi?”
So Ruan Yang lifted her gaze once more, directing it toward the spot she had been watching all morning.
There, Xu Zhiyi stood beneath an umbrella held by her assistant, leisurely pulling out a packet of fish food, who knew where she had gotten it and feeding the fish by the lake in the courtyard.
As she scattered the food, her dark green wide sleeves fluttered, leaving behind a dreamlike arc in the air.
It was enough to make one think of a celestial maiden from the Moon Palace.
Even Wu Jun, who had seen countless beauties in the entertainment industry, had to admit that Xu Zhiyi was truly blessed with extraordinary looks.
And it wasn’t just her appearance her every movement carried a rare, captivating grace.
No one would ever guess she was embroiled in a scandal that could very well destroy her.
Some long-empty corner of Ruan Yang’s heart suddenly felt filled by that fleeting arc of fabric.
She curled the corner of her lips. “Yes.”
Yes.
Xu Zhiyi.
Her light of life.
Her fire of longing.
