Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 8
“Zhiyi!” Assistant Jiang Jiang rushed into the dressing room at top speed. “Zhiyi, that Zheng Tang actually posted something, she’s pushing all the blame onto you! It’s just too much. Sister Liang sent me to tell you and ask what you want to do about it!”
As soon as she stepped into the dressing room, Jiang Jiang’s eyes landed on Xu Zhiyi, already dressed in ancient costume and fully made up, sitting quietly in her chair scrolling through her phone.
The Wild Goose Startles the Swan was a historical drama, and Xu Zhiyi played the role of a princess from a fallen kingdom. Today’s shoot was for scenes before the kingdom’s collapse, so the makeup and styling for Xu Zhiyi leaned toward the most delicate and luxurious aesthetic possible.
The makeup artist had applied heavier eyeshadow to Xu Zhiyi’s naturally alluring fox-like eyes, toning down some of their seductive charm while adding a touch of royal innocence and nobility.
From any angle, this face was a gift from the Creator.
Even after staring at it for three years, Jiang Jiang, a Beta couldn’t help but blush. Innocence and allure blended seamlessly on her beloved Zhiyi.
But now was clearly not the time to admire beauty. Jiang Jiang quickly snapped back to her purpose and walked over, holding out her phone screen for Xu Zhiyi to see.
Xu Zhiyi was watching a short drama. Jiang Jiang glanced at it, ordinary leads, ordinary styling, nothing particularly outstanding.
Why was Zhiyi so engrossed?
“Zhiyi?” Jiang Jiang called again. “Are we really just going to keep taking this? If we let it go on, Zheng Tang and her agent will completely tarnish your reputation!”
The short drama soon reached its end. Reluctantly, Xu Zhiyi closed the video and cast an indifferent glance at Jiang Jiang’s phone.
“No rush,” she said. “Let’s wait until after I terminate my contract.”
Jiang Jiang still wasn’t reassured. “Zhiyi, is your contract termination almost done?”
At the mention of this, Xu Zhiyi’s expression cooled noticeably.
Taking one look at her face, Jiang Jiang understood. She fumed, “The company is so disgusting! They promised to let you and Zheng Tang stir up some dating rumors to boost her popularity, then agreed to an amicable contract termination. But now that it’s backfired, they’re dumping all the blame on you. How shameless can they get?”
Xu Zhiyi had been with Xunguang Entertainment for years and had long since seen through the true nature of such companies. She handed her phone back to Jiang Jiang and stood up, walking out of the dressing room.
“If they refuse to agree, then we’ll just have to use other methods to make them comply,” Xu Zhiyi said.
Trying to pin all the blame on her? They should first consider whether they had the capability to pull it off.
Jiang Jiang had always trusted Xu Zhiyi unconditionally. She nodded eagerly. “Mhm! Zhiyi, I believe in you! Once you successfully terminate your contract, no matter where you go, I’ll follow you!”
Xu Zhiyi smiled faintly and patted Jiang Jiang’s head.
Jiang Jiang brightened, quickly grabbing an umbrella to shield Xu Zhiyi as they headed to the set.
Halfway there, Jiang Jiang suddenly remembered something. “Oh, right, Zhiyi! I heard the director is bringing in a few assistants today, all top students from S University, the empire’s most prestigious school. I wonder what they’ll be doing here. Do you think they’ll take over filming some of our scenes…?”
Listening to Jiang Jiang’s muttering behind her, Xu Zhiyi couldn’t help but let her mind wander.
S University, she remembered Ruan Yang was a student there.
What was her major again?
Xu Zhiyi couldn’t recall it immediately. She took the handheld mirror from Jiang Jiang and checked her reflection. The person in the mirror had a fair, slender neck, with no trace of those ambiguous marks left.
“Little brat,” she cursed inwardly before putting the mirror down. They had finally arrived at the set.
The set was no different from usual, except that the chatter quieted down noticeably when she arrived.
It seemed everyone had seen Zheng Tang’s newly published article.
Xu Zhiyi said nothing and simply took her seat. After so many years in the industry, she had weathered countless scandals, big and small, always brushing past admirers without a single leaf clinging to her.
Yet now, she had been blindsided by Zheng Tang, someone she had never even taken seriously.
Xu Zhiyi sneered. If she didn’t settle this score, her years in the entertainment industry would have been for nothing.
Just as she was lost in thought, a rustling sound signaled the director’s arrival.
As soon as the director stepped in, the chatter on set grew even quieter. Everyone noticed three unfamiliar faces trailing behind him rumors about the director recruiting new assistants must have been true.
This didn’t directly affect their work, so no one paid it much mind at first. But when they glanced behind the director, their eyes widened in surprise.
Jiang Jiang hadn’t cared initially. After all, her Zhiyi-jie was a solid actress, and no number of assistants would interfere with their work.
But curiosity got the better of her, and she stole a glance. Director Wu Jun’s face was something she saw almost daily, she was long tired of it.
The real focus was the three people behind him!!!
Do college students these days all look this stunning?!
Jiang Jiang scrutinized the trio more carefully.
Two guys and one girl both men were undeniably handsome, the type who’d stand out in any crowd. But the girl… it was such a waste for someone like her to work behind the scenes as a director instead of acting in front of the camera!
Having spent most of her life around Xu Zhiyi, the most beautiful person she’d ever seen, Jiang Jiang instinctively compared the girl to her Zhiyi-jie.
Both were strikingly beautiful, but Zhiyi-jie carried a soft, alluring charm, like spring water in the depths of winter.
This girl was different. Her features were exquisitely refined, her skin translucent and fair, her long black hair cascading over her shoulders like a painting time itself seemed to pause around her.
Her beauty was sharp, almost aggressive. Her expression was neutral, her gaze cool and detached, lending her an air of aloofness.
Their beauty was distinct, yet somehow similar in an intangible way.
Where exactly did they resemble each other?
Jiang Jiang pondered for a while but couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
She instinctively glanced at Xu Zhiyi.
Xu Zhiyi noticed her strange look and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Zhiyi-jie, look,” Jiang Jiang pointed toward the director and his entourage approaching in the distance. “That assistant girl the director brought is really pretty.”
After a pause, she added, “But I still think you’re the prettiest.”
“What?” Xu Zhiyi was busy checking her makeup in the mirror and hadn’t caught a word Jiang Jiang said.
As they spoke, the director had already led the assistants to Xu Zhiyi’s side.
“Zhiyi,” Director Wu Jun greeted her with a smile, “I’ve recently brought on a few assistants. I’m showing them around to get familiar with the environment and introducing them to everyone. You’ll be working together for quite a while.”
Hearing this, Xu Zhiyi set down her mirror. She had a good relationship with Wu Jun, so she chuckled and said, “Director Wu’s judgment is always impeccable.”
Praise for his discernment pleased anyone, and Wu Jun laughed heartily before stepping aside to let the three people behind him come forward.
“Alright, this is Xu Zhiyi, one of our leading actresses. You can call her Sister Zhiyi from now on.”
Two of the three promptly spoke up, “Sister Zhiyi.”
“Hello,” Xu Zhiyi stood up and replied softly, her gaze shifting from Wu Jun to the people behind him.
The smile that had been lingering on her lips suddenly froze.
Why was she here?!
Perhaps noticing her reaction, Ruan Yang across from her finally seemed satisfied.
She curled the corner of her lips before leisurely speaking.
“Pleased to meet you, Sister Zhiyi.”
