Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 63.1
Salad was never particularly tasty to begin with, and Xu Zhiyi had been eating greens every day, so logically, she should have long grown accustomed to it.
Yet, for some reason, she found this particular salad especially hard to swallow at the moment.
It wasn’t as if she hadn’t noticed Xu Zhiyi had long since detected the special affection Qu Shanshan harbored for Ruan Yang.
She forced a perfectly standard smile, set down her fork, and said, “I see.”
Even though she was pushing herself to say something more, her mind went completely blank.
The atmosphere seemed to freeze over. Xu Zhiyi parted her lips, wanting to say a lot, but in the end, only two words came out: “Good luck.”
Qu Shanshan, being younger, looked up upon hearing this and happened to catch the smile on Xu Zhiyi’s face. She instinctively assumed Xu Zhiyi was cheering her on.
Because of this secret, she suddenly felt much closer to Xu Zhiyi emotionally.
She nodded emphatically, her tone brimming with confidence, “Don’t worry, Sister Zhiyi, I’ll definitely do my best!”
With that, she stood up, smiled, and bid farewell, “I’ll be going now. I need to hurry back and pick out a gift for Senior Ruan Yang. I won’t disturb your meal any longer, Sister Zhiyi.”
Xu Zhiyi nodded slowly and mechanically, like a puppet, and replied, “Mm.”
She watched as Qu Shanshan left the lounge. Jiang Jiang had been waiting outside the door the whole time and, seeing Qu Shanshan leave, stepped back in.
At a glance, she noticed the salad on the table, which Xu Zhiyi had shredded with her fork. Unable to contain her curiosity, Jiang Jiang asked, “Sister Zhiyi, are you not hungry today?”
Her gaze then drifted to the cake box on the other side of the table. “Is this cake from that young lady just now? How did she know this is your favorite cake shop? And it’s even the hardest one to get!”
Normally, when Sister Zhiyi wanted to eat it, Jiang Jiang would scramble to buy it, sometimes even hiring several scalpers to help, and still might not manage to snag a single slice. Yet now, an entire cake was sitting right in front of her!
Just as Jiang Jiang was marveling inwardly, Xu Zhiyi stopped poking at the vegetables in the box with her fork and said indifferently, “I’m on a diet right now and don’t feel like eating it. You can have it.”
Jiang Jiang was about to express surprise Sister Zhiyi rarely stuck to the nutritionist’s diet plan when she happened to glance down and catch Xu Zhiyi’s expression.
She acknowledged the offer and, with quick understanding, picked up the entire cake box and hurried out of the lounge.
The late autumn afternoon air carried a distinct chill. It was around four or five o’clock, and the film crew had just finished shooting a large, crowded scene.
Everyone had been busy almost the entire day for this scene. Seeing how cold it had gotten, Xu Zhiyi asked Jiang Jiang to count the number of staff present and buy each one a hot milk tea and some sugar-fried chestnuts.
When the order finally arrived, Jiang Jiang enlisted a set assistant to help distribute the afternoon snacks.
As they handed out the last few portions, Jiang Jiang realized they seemed to be one short and went over to inform Xu Zhiyi.
Xu Zhiyi was looking at her phone. Hearing this, she glanced toward the corner where a few people still hadn’t received their snacks.
Ruan Yang was also in that corner, focused on the equipment. Xu Zhiyi’s eyes immediately landed on the unopened milk tea beside Ruan Yang’s hand.
The brand of the small cake was the same as the one she had received today, so it was obvious who had sent it.
Xu Zhiyi put away her phone and glanced at Jiang Jiang. With just that one look, Jiang Jiang understood exactly what Xu Zhiyi meant.
She had been in the middle of negotiating with the vendor to send another portion, but now she had to stop and follow Xu Zhiyi’s instructions, taking the last few portions and walking toward the corner.
After distributing one to each person, Jiang Jiang hesitated, holding the final portion as she looked at Ruan Yang, who was staring at her with wide, expectant eyes.
The two of them locked eyes in silence for two seconds before Jiang Jiang, under pressure, handed the last portion to the staff member standing next to Ruan Yang.
Ruan Yang seemed momentarily taken aback as she stared at Jiang Jiang’s empty hands, then tilted her head slightly in confusion.
Jiang Jiang endured the gaze for a moment before pursing her lips and shaking her head. Just as she was about to signal with her eyes that this was all Zhiyi’s doing, she turned to find Xu Zhiyi already walking over and stopping beside her.
As soon as Xu Zhiyi arrived, Jiang Jiang caught a faint, unmistakable whiff of tension in the air.
“So sorry, Director,” Xu Zhiyi said with a light laugh. “The vendor sent one less portion. But since you’re the director, I figured you wouldn’t mind. I simply had Jiang Jiang give your share to someone else.”
The word “simply” was particularly telling. Most of the staff had already left the area to take a break, but the few who remained sensed that something was about to happen.
The staff member who had just received the last portion from Jiang Jiang felt a pang of guilt and spoke up, “Director, why don’t you take this one.”
Before he could finish, Xu Zhiyi interrupted, “Since you already have a cup of milk tea, I assume you don’t need this one, right?”
Hearing this, Ruan Yang glanced back at the cup of milk tea she had placed on the ground.
She fell into thoughtful silence for a moment, then looked at the staff member who had spoken and said in an uncharacteristically gentle tone, “It’s fine, you can have it.”
As soon as these words were spoken, Jiang Jiang felt the chill emanating from Xu Zhiyi beside her sharpen like icy blades, sending shivers down her spine.
Yet Xu Zhiyi’s smile grew even warmer. “As expected of a director such magnanimity truly sets you apart from others.”
What should have been a simple matter of an afternoon snack had been elevated by Xu Zhiyi to a question of character and magnanimity.
Ruan Yang furrowed her brow, about to say something, but Xu Zhiyi had already left with Jiang Jiang in tow.
The surrounding staff, sensing the tension between the lead actress and the director, quickly dispersed as well. Within seconds, the small pavilion was empty except for Ruan Yang.
Ruan Yang walked back to her earlier spot, picked up the cup of milk tea, and mulled it over.
But no matter how long she thought, even to the point of frustration, she couldn’t figure out how this cup of milk tea which she had received as a freebie while buying a cake for Ruan Qingyu had managed to offend Xu Zhiyi.
After wrapping up for the day, Xu Zhiyi removed her makeup, changed her clothes, and prepared to take the car back to the hotel.
But just as she got into the car and was about to close the door, a hand suddenly reached in from outside, stopping the door from shutting.
The car door was slowly pulled back to its original position by Ruan Yang. Leaning against the door with one hand, her back to the light, her silhouette cast a large shadow over Xu Zhiyi.
In this shadow, Xu Zhiyi’s heart inexplicably raced.
“You, what are you doing?” She instinctively shrank further into the car seat.
Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced inside the car Jiang Jiang and the driver hadn’t arrived yet. She was alone in the car now.
“Why didn’t you wait for me?” Backlit, Ruan Yang’s expression was hard to discern, but her tone was low, and her shoulders seemed slightly tense.
It wasn’t really a question; the certainty in her voice felt more like an accusation against Xu Zhiyi for not waiting for her.
“You always waited for me before,” Ruan Yang spoke again, bending slightly to bring herself closer to Xu Zhiyi.
This sentence felt as though it was whispered directly into Xu Zhiyi’s ear.
Xu Zhiyi’s forehead felt warm, and her palms grew clammy with sweat.
“You didn’t come to have lunch with me today either.” Ruan Yang released her grip on the car door and reached out, her fingers unerringly finding Xu Zhiyi’s earlobe in the dimly lit car.
“Are you in a bad mood, Zhiyi?” she asked.
Ruan Yang’s fingertips were cold, and the oppressive aura of an Alpha in that moment nearly overwhelmed Xu Zhiyi.
In the presence of such a powerful Alpha, anyone’s first instinct would be to submit. But Xu Zhiyi closed her eyes and suddenly recalled how Qu Shanshan had spoken of Ruan Yang that morning, her face full of admiration and youthful infatuation.
It took every ounce of her strength to suppress the urge to moan.
“I’m in a perfectly good mood,” the words slipped from her lips, the end of her sentence trembling slightly, carrying an unintended hint of allure.
Her eyes glistened with moisture as she lifted her gaze to face the overwhelming presence of the top-tier Alpha. “If I don’t come to eat with you, does that mean you won’t eat? Are you a child?”
“But—”
“No buts,” Xu Zhiyi cut Ruan Yang off almost immediately, as if doing so could hide her current disarray and guilt.
Her fingers dug tightly into the leather of the car seat. “Besides, it’s not just me who can make sure you eat. If you’re really that desperate, you can always find someone else. Ah!”
In the darkness, Ruan Yang’s right hand began to knead Xu Zhiyi’s soft earlobe, alternating between light and firm pressure without warning.
Xu Zhiyi finally let out a soft gasp, her head tilting back slightly as if unconsciously yearning for something.
Ruan Yang’s expression remained frozen, showing no change as she watched Xu Zhiyi close her eyes, her red lips parting slightly.
From her angle, she could even see the tip of Xu Zhiyi’s tongue gently pressing against her lower teeth.
She didn’t deny the underhanded act of releasing her pheromones. She controlled the intensity, blending it with the kneading of Xu Zhiyi’s earlobe, silently coercing Xu Zhiyi to tell the truth.
Her Zhiyi was too stubborn.
“Ruan, Ruan Yang!” She had intended to scold her, but as soon as she spoke, the pressure on her earlobe intensified, plunging her into a state of emptiness and discomfort.
Even though it was just her earlobe being touched, it felt as if Ruan Yang had pinned her entire being on the edge of a cliff.
She opened her eyes and met Ruan Yang’s calm gaze. In this charged atmosphere of desire, it seemed as though she was the only one who had lost herself.
