Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 63.2
Xu Zhiyi gasped softly, her limbs weak and trembling. She hadn’t expected Ruan Yang to treat her this way. Besides anger, a faint sense of humiliation welled up inside her, born from her long-standing habit of holding herself above others.
These mixed emotions finally gave her back a bit of strength, and she raised her hand to slap Ruan Yang’s away.
With a crisp smack, a moderate force struck the back of Ruan Yang’s hand, pushing it aside.
Ruan Yang stood up, and the light behind her fell once again on Xu Zhiyi’s face. She noticed tiny droplets clinging to Xu Zhiyi’s long eyelashes, her cheeks flushed red, making her look like a cherry that had just ripened.
Waiting to be plucked at any moment.
But before she could admire the sight for long, Xu Zhiyi widened her eyes, no longer able to control her emotions as she had before. Instead, she shoved Ruan Yang in a fit of embarrassed fury.
Her hand pressed against Ruan Yang’s stomach, with little force behind it, but Ruan Yang cooperatively took a step back.
“Get lost!” Xu Zhiyi’s eyes betrayed a hint of grievance. Not wanting Ruan Yang to see, she grabbed the car door and slammed it shut, then got out from the other side, hurried to the driver’s seat, and started the car herself.
Soon, Xu Zhiyi drove away.
This time, Ruan Yang was truly left behind.
She watched as Xu Zhiyi sped off in the car, not looking away until the vehicle had completely vanished from sight. Only then did she finally glance down at her fingertips.
The soft sensation seemed to linger there.
It seemed she had gone too far.
Xu Zhiyi was angry Ruan Yang realized this, yet she felt no panic or any other emotion.
Instead, she stood in place for a long while.
After a moment, a low chuckle echoed under the dim lights of the parking lot.
A few days later, one afternoon, the real estate agent informed Ruan Yang that a house had been found. Taking half a day off, Ruan Yang brought Ruan Qingyu to see the newly rented place.
After Ruan Qingyu had looked over every corner of the house, she sat down on the sofa.
“It’s quite nice. Let’s settle here,” Ruan Qingyu said, her voice weary, as she patted Ruan Yang’s hand with a smile. “You’ve worked hard, Yangyang.”
Although the new house wasn’t as spacious as the Xu family’s, the conditions were decent, and the decor had a warm, homely feel to it.
“It was no trouble,” Ruan Yang replied, sitting down beside Ruan Qingyu. “I had your belongings moved out of the Xu residence a few days ago. Since you like this place, I’ll have them bring everything over later. From now on this will be our home.”
At the mention of the Xu family, Ruan Qingyu’s eyes flickered uneasily.
Her spirit had noticeably dimmed. Having stayed in a hotel for several days, she had hoped to recover somewhat from her sorrow, but letting go of someone she had loved for so many years was far from easy.
Now, with the Xu family brought up again, her eyes reddened, and she couldn’t help but ask, “All these days, when you went to the Xu residence to pack my things was Rongjiang, Xu Rongjiang there?”
In truth, Ruan Yang hadn’t personally gone to the Xu residence to pack Ruan Qingyu’s belongings; she had hired a professional moving service.
But with such a noticeable event as packing Ruan Qingyu’s things, it was impossible for Xu Rongjiang not to know.
So she nodded. “Yes.”
A wave of sorrow washed over Ruan Qingyu once more. She let out a bitter laugh and closed her eyes.
Even though he knew, he still hadn’t come looking for her.
It was at this moment that Ruan Qingyu finally realized just how ruthless Xu Rongjiang could be.
And once again, she strengthened her resolve to let go of Xu Rongjiang.
Pouring her energy into a man like this was simply not worth it.
Ruan Yang gently wiped away the tears that had welled up in the corners of Ruan Qingyu’s eyes and said softly, “I’ll make more time to come see you from now on. I’ve also signed you up for a painting class. Didn’t you love painting the most before? When you have time, go visit the gallery.”
In her memory, her mother had loved painting since she was very young and was quite skilled at it. But later, for the sake of a man, she had abandoned her passion and other interests.
Ruan Qingyu seemed to recall the scenes and emotions from her painting days as well. She stopped crying and, after a moment, nodded. “Mm.”
She looked out the window. Winter was approaching.
It was time for many things to come to an end.
After comforting Ruan Qingyu a while longer, Ruan Yang left for the film set.
As soon as she arrived, a crew member approached her and handed her a gift bag, saying it was a present from someone.
Ruan Yang took it, opened the bag, and found a greeting card inside. It was from Qu Shanshan, who expressed her gratitude and hoped Ruan Yang would like the gift.
Ruan Yang carefully placed the card back and opened the paper box inside the gift bag. When she saw the exquisitely crafted, sleek lens with its muted sheen, her pupils involuntarily contracted.
She stared at it for a while longer before finally closing the box and returning it to the gift bag.
Carrying the gift bag, she headed toward her dressing room. As she passed the filming area, she sensed someone’s gaze on her. Following the direction of the gaze, she saw Xu Zhiyi sitting in a rest chair, holding a water cup, her eyes fixed intently on the gift bag in Ruan Yang’s hand.
Ruan Yang walked over. To her surprise, Xu Zhiyi didn’t turn away or leave when she approached.
This was unexpected.
Over the past few days, Xu Zhiyi had seemed to still be angry and had been ignoring Ruan Yang. Whenever something came up during filming, she would relay it through Jiang Jiang. If Jiang Jiang wasn’t around, she would ask other crew members anything to avoid speaking directly to Ruan Yang.
Ruan Yang understood that Xu Zhiyi didn’t want to interact with her and considerately refrained from initiating any conversation. She had even delegated Xu Zhiyi’s scenes to the assistant director for the past few days.
As Ruan Yang reached Xu Zhiyi’s side, she found a seat nearby. She initially intended to casually place the gift bag on the ground, but remembering what was inside, she changed her mind and set it on the table beside her instead.
Xu Zhiyi recognized the logo on the gift bag immediately, it was from Qu Shanshan and related to photography. Seeing Ruan Yang handle it so carefully, her expression darkened.
“Oh,” she said with a polite, distant smile, “who sent this?”
This time, it was Ruan Yang who remained silent. She glanced sideways at Xu Zhiyi, pressed her lips together, and turned her attention back to the gift bag.
She actually ignored her!
Xu Zhiyi felt as though she could grind her teeth to dust, but she couldn’t stop herself from speaking again. “The director seems to really like this gift.”
“Of course I like it.” Ruan Yang finally spoke, her gaze never leaving the box. “I’ve wanted this lens for a long time.”
Seeing how much Ruan Yang loved it, and knowing it was her own suggestion to Qu Shanshan, Xu Zhiyi felt even more unsettled.
Though inwardly restless, she forced a light laugh and said, “Congratulations, Director.”
With that, she stood up and walked toward the set. “My scene is about to start. I should get going.”
It seemed she couldn’t bear to stay a moment longer.
Only when the seat beside her was empty did Ruan Yang finally look away. Watching Xu Zhiyi’s retreating figure, a faint smile touched her lips.
But the smile was fleeting, so brief it was almost imperceptible.
Rising, she picked up the gift bag again and headed toward her dressing room. Her fingers slipped into her pocket, brushing against the phone charm.
She gently stroked it a few more times.
Soon.
She whispered silently in her heart.
Then, opening her palm, she closed her fingers tightly around the charm.
