Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 62.2
“Zhiyi-jie!” Jiang Jiang called out, seeing Xu Zhiyi suddenly pick up her pace. She hurriedly jogged to catch up. “Zhiyi-jie, wait for me!”
As she caught up, she noticed the tight line of Xu Zhiyi’s lips but mustered the courage to ask, “Zhiyi-jie, should we still wait for Yangyang to go back to the hotel together?”
Usually, if the two of them finished work at the same time, they would ride back to the hotel together in Xu Zhiyi’s car.
“Wait for what?” Xu Zhiyi said, her eyes fixed straight ahead. “Doesn’t she have legs of her own? We’re going back by ourselves!”
Though Xu Zhiyi didn’t show it outright, Jiang Jiang, having worked with her for so many years, could tell at a glance that her boss was unhappy.
She pressed her lips together and didn’t ask any more questions, quietly following Xu Zhiyi into the car.
The usually peaceful and serene atmosphere inside the car felt chillingly tense today.
Jiang Jiang huddled in the corner, pouting and not daring to move a muscle.
The next day, Ruan Yang waited on set for Xu Zhiyi to arrive.
Last night, Ruan Qingyu had sent her a message, saying she wanted Ruan Yang to come stay with her for a while. Ruan Yang had initially planned to go over and comfort Qingyu first, then return to the hotel later to find Xu Zhiyi.
But she hadn’t expected Qingyu’s emotional state to be so volatile, she simply couldn’t find a moment to slip away, and ended up soothing Qingyu the entire night. It wasn’t until six or seven in the morning that Qingyu finally agreed to take her medicine and drifted off to sleep.
As soon as Qingyu was asleep, Ruan Yang hurriedly took a taxi back to the film set.
She stood by the camera for a long while but didn’t see Xu Zhiyi arrive. It wasn’t until they were about to start shooting that Xu Zhiyi finally strolled in, just barely making it on time.
From a distance, it seemed Xu Zhiyi was in much better spirits today, and Ruan Yang breathed a sigh of relief. She walked over, intending to greet her, but before she could even come to a stop beside Xu Zhiyi, the latter passed by as if she hadn’t seen her at all, heading straight toward the assistant director.
Ruan Yang’s steps faltered, and she froze in place.
Her lips parted slightly as she turned to watch Xu Zhiyi smiling and discussing the day’s scenes with the assistant director. Today’s scenes for Xu Zhiyi were under the assistant director’s supervision.
Was it just her imagination?
Under the soft, bright morning sunlight, her amber eyes narrowed slightly as she watched Xu Zhiyi, bathed in light just a few steps away.
“Director! Everything’s ready,” a crew member called out to her. “Shall we begin?”
She snapped back to reality, only to find Xu Zhiyi had already left the small courtyard with the B-unit director.
As if that earlier moment had been nothing but a figment of her imagination.
She glanced sideways at the crew member who had spoken, and after a long pause, nodded.
“Let’s begin.”
The morning passed in a flurry of activity. At lunchtime, Jiang Jiang placed Xu Zhiyi’s lunchbox on her table and asked, “Zhiyi-jie, aren’t you going to eat with Yangyang today?”
Xu Zhiyi lay back in her rest chair, the tips of her feet lightly tapping and rubbing against the smooth floor of the break room.
She had placed an open script over her face, and her voice came out muffled from beneath it.
“Not today.”
Alright.
Jiang Jiang opened her lunchbox and was about to take out the utensils when a figure slowly approached from behind.
“Zhiyi-jie.” The newcomer knocked on the door and, seeing Jiang Jiang turn to look, stepped inside and placed what she was holding on the table.
Hearing the noise, Xu Zhiyi removed the script from her face and immediately saw Qu Shanshan standing before her.
She sat up straight, casually tossing the script onto the chair. After a brief pause, she finally offered a smile. “Shanshan? What brings you here to see me?”
Qu Shanshan seemed a little shy. She patted the cake box she had placed on the table and chuckled softly. “I found a dessert shop and remembered my sister mentioning that you have a sweet tooth, Zhiyi-jie. So I rushed over to bring this to you. Don’t worry, it’s made with lactose-free ingredients, so it won’t make you gain weight.”
It was truly hard to refuse. Xu Zhiyi nodded and patted the chair beside her. “Thank you for your trouble. Come, sit for a while.”
So Qu Shanshan sat down next to Xu Zhiyi. Seeing this, Jiang Jiang stepped out and thoughtfully closed the door behind them.
“Are you filming next door recently?” Xu Zhiyi asked proactively. “With Director Wu Jun?”
Xu Zhiyi had heard that Qu Lingxuan had been helping Qu Shanshan look for scripts.
“Yes,” Qu Shanshan quickly nodded. Though she was looking directly at Xu Zhiyi, she seemed somewhat distracted for some reason.
Xu Zhiyi wasn’t in the mood for small talk with Qu Shanshan to begin with, and now her patience was wearing even thinner. “You came to see me because you have something to discuss, right?” she said.
The direct question caught Qu Shanshan off guard, and she froze for a couple of seconds, feeling that Sister Zhiyi seemed a bit different from how she usually appeared.
But she didn’t hesitate for long. Instead, she smiled shyly and said, “There is something, actually.”
Xu Zhiyi remained silent, waiting for Qu Shanshan to speak up. After waiting for over ten seconds and seeing Xu Zhiyi open her lunchbox and start eating as if nothing was amiss, Qu Shanshan decided to cut to the chase. “I came to see you today, Sister Zhiyi, because I wanted to ask about Senior Ruan Yang.”
The hand holding the fork to eat salad froze mid-air. Fortunately, Xu Zhiyi quickly regained her composure and took another bite of vegetables, not letting Qu Shanshan notice anything unusual.
Qu Shanshan continued, “Senior Ruan Yang has helped me a lot before, and I’d like to properly thank her, so I was thinking of giving her a gift. I wanted to ask you, Sister Zhiyi, if Senior Ruan Yang has any hobbies or things she particularly likes.”
Hobbies, huh?
Xu Zhiyi really did take a moment to think carefully. She lowered her head in contemplation and suddenly realized that Ruan Yang didn’t seem to have any particular hobbies or favorite things.
Back in the Xu family, whenever Ruan Yang was on break, she would lock herself in her room. And whenever they spent time together, it was always Ruan Yang accommodating Xu Zhiyi’s preferences she never seemed to have any strong opinions or interests of her own.
“There is one thing,” Xu Zhiyi said hesitantly. “She usually likes to take her camera out and take pictures.”
A few times when Xu Zhiyi had returned home and was sitting on the living room sofa watching TV, she had run into Ruan Yang coming back from outside with her camera.
The reason Xu Zhiyi hesitated was that she wasn’t sure whether Ruan Yang always brought her camera out as a hobby or because it was required for her studies.
But then she remembered something else, and her tone grew more certain. “It must be. She has a whole box of photos she took herself in her room.”
Xu Zhiyi hadn’t been in Ruan Yang’s room much this was something she’d heard from Auntie Chen. Once, after Auntie Chen had finished cleaning Ruan Yang’s room, she came downstairs muttering about a large box in Ruan Yang’s room filled with photos and discs.
Xu Zhiyi had overheard and casually asked what kind of photos they were. Auntie Chen said that even with the lights on, Ruan Yang’s room was too dark, so she hadn’t gotten a clear look.
“Really? That gives me a direction for the gift then!” Qu Shanshan’s voice sounded cheerful.
Her words pulled Xu Zhiyi’s thoughts back to the present.
She stared intently at the smile on Qu Shanshan’s face for a couple of seconds, then suddenly laughed, though the smile didn’t quite reach her eyes.
“Do you want to give Yangyang something just to thank her?” she asked softly, her tone almost airy. “Shanshan, you’re not falling for Yangyang, are you?”
Her tone carried a hint of probing, mixed with a touch of nonchalance. Xu Zhiyi had expected Qu Shanshan to avoid answering directly, but to her surprise, Qu Shanshan suddenly bit her lower lip.
Her lowered gaze was tinged with a hint of bashfulness.
She nodded, and the empty lounge suddenly echoed with her clear voice.
“Mm-hm.”
Xu Zhiyi’s mind went completely blank, as if something had exploded inside her.
“That’s right,” Qu Shanshan said, her eyes brimming with affection. “I like Senior Ruan Yang. I want to pursue her.”
Now that Yangyang has left the Xu family, she can openly pursue Zhiyi (rubbing hands together like a fly).
