Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 6
After agreeing with Professor Wen, the professor happily said, “Ruan Yang, I knew you would agree. This is a great opportunity. Make sure you study hard once you get there!”
Ruan Yang said yes. Once Professor Wen sent the address and Director Wu’s contact information via WeChat, Ruan Yang immediately started packing.
She didn’t have much to bring, so she was ready in no time.
But as she carried her suitcase downstairs, she saw her mother and her rarely seen “father” sitting together on the living room sofa.
Xu Zhiyi’s father, Xu Rongjiang, was the chairman of the Xu Group, managing a vast business empire. He was usually too busy with work to come home.
Whenever he did return, it meant something had happened that forced him to make the trip.
Xu Rongjiang’s suit still had some wrinkles, indicating he had rushed back in a hurry.
Ruan Yang slowed her steps but was called out by her mother, Ruan Qingyu, after just a few paces.
“Where are you going?” In front of Xu Rongjiang, Ruan Qingyu’s tone was always much gentler. Now, she asked softly, “Is your sister home?”
Ruan Yang glanced at Xu Rongjiang’s expression his face was stern, exuding authority without anger.
It seemed he really had returned because of Xu Zhiyi.
She shook her head. “Zhiyi isn’t home. It’s summer break, and my classmates invited me to go on a trip with them.”
She couldn’t tell them she was actually going to see Xu Zhiyi.
“Then, Yangyang, do you know where your sister Zhiyi went?” Xu Rongjiang forced a smile, trying to sound amiable.
Ruan Yang instinctively frowned. She disliked Xu Rongjiang’s smile, it was like an old fox pretending to be friendly while secretly looking down on everyone.
Only someone like Ruan Qingyu would want to cling to such a person, treating him as the anchor of her life.
“Zhiyi… Zhiyi seems to be working. Uncle, did you come back because of Zhiyi’s scandal?”
Xu Rongjiang’s expression stiffened, a flash of displeasure crossing his eyes. “Even you know about it, Yangyang? It seems Xu Zhiyi has really made a mess this time!”
After a pause, he continued, “I had just finished a meeting when a subordinate told me to check the news especially the entertainment section! That Xu Zhiyi, she’s really grown bold, daring to pull such a stunt while I’m campaigning for the Chamber of Commerce presidency!”
Ruan Yang understood. At the end of the day, he was only here because Xu Zhiyi’s actions might affect his business.
It all came back to himself.
Xu Rongjiang’s anger was so intense that even Ruan Qingyu was startled. She quickly tried to soothe him, “Don’t be so upset, Rongjiang. Zhiyi may be a bit wild and irresponsible sometimes, but she’s still just a child. There’s no need to get so angry.”
“How can I not be angry?!” Xu Rongjiang lowered his voice, but his eyes bulged slightly, making him look even more terrifying. “A child? How old is she, and you still call her a child? Look at what she’s done! Do you have any idea how much money and effort I’ve poured into this Chamber of Commerce campaign? If Xu Zhiyi’s scandal tarnishes my reputation and gives my opponents leverage to ruin my chances, do you know how disastrous the consequences would be?!”
Ruan Qingyu fell silent.
“Uncle,” Ruan Yang’s nails dug into her palms, “I believe Sister Zhiyi wouldn’t do such a thing. I don’t think you should speak about her like this before understanding the full situation.”
“Shut up!” Ruan Qingyu snapped at Ruan Yang. “Is this the place for you to speak? Weren’t you going to meet your classmates? Go now, hurry up!”
Ruan Yang’s words darkened Xu Rongjiang’s expression even further. His face stiffened as if he wanted to say something, but since she wasn’t his biological daughter, he could only vent his anger by slamming the teacup on the table.
He threw the cup down with a loud crash. “If I had known this would happen, I never should have let my daughter enter the entertainment industry! Xu Zhiyi is just like her mother nothing but trouble for me.”
“Well, I’m so sorry to trouble you again.”
Before Xu Rongjiang could finish, a figure walked in through the door. Xu Zhiyi removed her mask and hat, revealing a face that remained striking even without makeup.
“Sorry,” she said, her lips curling in a mocking smile. “My… father.”
No one knew how long Xu Zhiyi had been there or how much she had heard.
Seeing his daughter appear before him now, Xu Rongjiang felt a flicker of embarrassment but quickly masked it with fury.
“You have the nerve to come back! Do you have any idea how much your scandal affects me?! My rivals could use this to slander me relentlessly. Do you even realize the consequences? How did I end up with such a foolish daughter?!”
Xu Zhiyi casually tossed her mask and hat onto the sofa before sitting across from Xu Rongjiang. She lounged like a lazy cat, yet her sharpness was unmistakable.
“Only now do you still consider me your daughter, huh?”
Ruan Yang stood between the two. From her angle, she could see two-thirds of Xu Zhiyi’s profile. She thought to herself Xu Zhiyi and Xu Rongjiang were unmistakably father and daughter.
That bone-deep disdain, the way their eyes dismissed others, no one else could replicate it, not even slightly.
“You insolent brat!” Xu Rongjiang roared. “How dare you speak to me like this! Look at the mess you’ve made!”
“What mess?” Xu Zhiyi’s eyes flickered playfully before suddenly landing on Ruan Yang. Though she smiled, her eyes held no warmth only an unreadable glint.
“I’ve done a lot of things,” she said lightly. “Which one are you referring to, Father?”
Ruan Yang’s nails finally loosened from her palms.
For a fleeting moment, she even wished Xu Zhiyi would reveal what happened that night.
Better yet—brand this person as hers from head to toe, let the whole world know she belonged to her.
Dark thoughts surged uncontrollably, but reality remained stubborn and hopeless.
Xu Zhiyi’s words seemed to say everything and nothing at all.
Xu Rongjiang was utterly enraged. He jabbed a furious finger at Ruan Yang. “You disgrace! Listen to the nonsense you’re spouting! Right now—go issue a public apology! Admit your mistakes, swear this scandal won’t happen again, and then quit the entertainment industry! Do you hear me?!”
“Scandal?” After listening, Xu Zhiyi raised an eyebrow and scoffed, “…My mistake? Sometimes I really wonder, how on earth did your business get this far? From the moment you walked in, have you asked me once about the truth of the matter?”
In an unnoticed corner, Ruan Yang saw Xu Zhiyi’s hands trembling.
“What truth could there be? Don’t I know what kind of person you are? You’re just as shameless as your mother!”
Those words finally enraged Xu Zhiyi. She stood up, all emotion draining from her face, her eyes as hollow as an ancient well.
After a long silence so long that even Xu Rongjiang opposite her began to feel a chill down his spine she finally spoke in a hauntingly calm voice, “What right do you have to call anyone shameless, my dear father?”
“Your reputation, status, and wealth today which of them didn’t come from my mother? You were a poor boy who latched onto a wealthy heiress, yet instead of being grateful, you dared to call her shameless after her death.”
“Let me think, why are you scolding me?” Xu Zhiyi seemed intent on provoking Xu Rongjiang. She even walked up to him, casting a challenging glance at Ruan Qingyu beside him. “Could it be… that you’re trying to reclaim your pitiful, pathetic self-esteem from me.”
“Shut your mouth!” Before Xu Zhiyi could finish, Xu Rongjiang swung his arm. “How dare you speak to me like that? Today, I’ll teach you a lesson you won’t forget!”
That second stretched endlessly.
In that second, Ruan Yang looked at Xu Zhiyi’s face such a beautiful face, she realized she couldn’t even imagine it marred by any flaw.
She also glanced at Xu Rongjiang.
She saw his face contort, collapsing inward, gradually forming a black hole.
The black hole drew closer and closer to her.
By the time Ruan Yang reacted, Xu Rongjiang’s slap had already landed on her face.
“Yangyang!”
The force of the blow turned Ruan Yang’s head. Amid the roaring tinnitus, she heard someone call her name.
