Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 5
“Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable.”
“What kind of answer is this? Compared to this, all those people spouting nonsense earlier are just weak sauce!”
“Exactly, this is on another level. Are people this badass nowadays?”
“Talk about dropping a bombshell. Go for it, OP. If you succeed, I’ll eat my words!”
Within just a few hours of Ruan Yang posting her answer, it quickly went viral, attracting a flood of curious netizens.
Even a passing ant would have to say, “This is wild.”
Overnight, Ruan Yang’s answer skyrocketed to the top of the list due to the surge in upvotes.
With the increased exposure, the comments under her answer gradually took on all sorts of bizarre tones.
Among the latest few hundred comments, aside from those earnestly offering advice on how to win the other person over, the rest were all variations of: “OP, did you succeed today?”
Ruan Yang had closed the app right after posting her answer, so she didn’t see any of this. Nor could she have imagined that the response she’d written in an unguarded moment, unable to suppress her emotions, would be propelled to the top of the trending answers by bored netizens.
Day after day, idle internet users would check in under her answer, asking if Ruan Yang had succeeded yet.
This continued for several months without fail.
Ruan Yang put down her phone, closed her homework, and left the study room.
The finals week passed quickly. After finishing her last exam, Lu Yiye ran out of the classroom and caught up to her. “Yangyang, what are your plans for the break? Fang Yao and I, along with a few others, are thinking of going on a trip together. Wanna join us?”
Fang Yao, standing beside Lu Yiye, chimed in, “Yeah, Ruan Yang, why don’t you come with us? You’re always buried in your studies take this chance to relax a little.”
“A trip?” Ruan Yang pursed her lips, considering it.
Originally, she had planned to spend the summer filming short dramas with some aspiring actors. She’d already created an account and was ready to upload the content to see how many fans she could attract.
But if she went on a trip with Fang Yao and the others, that plan would have to be shelved.
After careful thought, Ruan Yang decided to decline. “Sorry, Yiye. I’ve already got other plans for the summer.”
Though Lu Yiye had braced herself for rejection, she couldn’t help feeling disappointed. “Alright.”
Ruan Yang was naturally reserved and didn’t talk much. Lu Yiye had already put in a lot of effort just to get close to her, so she didn’t push for more.
Fang Yao sighed. “Too bad. I even invited a bunch of cute sweet Omegas to introduce to you guys.”
Like Lu Yiye and Ruan Yang, he was also an Alpha.
Hearing Fang Yao’s words, Ruan Yang frowned slightly.
Good thing she hadn’t agreed. She didn’t like being around too many unfamiliar people.
Since they all lived near campus, they walked toward the school gate together. Suddenly, Fang Yao let out a dramatic wail while looking at his phone.
“Xu Zhiyi, my goddess! How could this happen?”
The moment Xu Zhiyi’s name was mentioned, Ruan Yang instinctively stopped in her tracks.
She turned to look at Fang Yao, puzzled as to why he’d suddenly let out such a shocked and panicked cry.
Over the past month, Ruan Yang had deliberately or inadvertently avoided any news about Xu Zhiyi.
She never expected to hear about her again so abruptly, right there on the school pathway.
Fang Yao suddenly burst into tears while clutching his phone, a 1.8-meter-tall guy sobbing like a child in the middle of the crowded campus, repeatedly calling out Xu Zhiyi’s name.
Lu Yiye, embarrassed by the scene, covered her face and peeked at Fang Yao’s phone.
It was a sensational piece of news, sensational to the extreme.
Lu Yiye came to this conclusion because she noticed Ruan Yang also turning to look.
The news was so explosive that even Ruan Yang, who usually showed almost no emotional reaction, widened her eyes in shock,
Xu Zhiyi had been exposed for meddling in someone else’s relationship.
Ruan Yang practically sprinted home. The moment she arrived, she rushed straight to her room, turned on her computer, and typed Xu Zhiyi’s name into the search bar with practiced familiarity.
The hashtag was already trending, and Weibo was still crashing. Ruan Yang had to try alternative search terms.
Xu Zhiyi, after all, was the current top celebrity, the nation’s sweetheart. Even searching with the name of a character she played in a movie years ago still brought up all the latest gossip.
Ruan Yang learned that Xu Zhiyi had been exposed that very morning for interfering in someone else’s relationship. And this “someone else” was someone Ruan Yang was somewhat familiar with Zheng Tang, the same person who had visited their home last time and spent an entire night in Xu Zhiyi’s room.
Zheng Tang had gained some fame last month from a low-budget web series and had been riding high on popularity ever since.
After being photographed in intimate contact with Xu Zhiyi even staying in the same room overnight, the two had only issued a formal statement, but all other signs pointed to them being in a relationship, drawing massive public attention.
The sudden surge in Zheng Tang’s popularity had made some rivals jealous, prompting them to dig up dirt on her past.
And what they uncovered shocked even the paparazzi.
Zheng Tang, who had debuted with the persona of a pure, naive Alpha, amassing a legion of devoted Omega fans, had secretly been in a six-year relationship with a Beta girlfriend.
The two had started dating in high school. After graduation, Zheng Tang failed to get into a good university, so she dropped out after a couple of years and entered the entertainment industry.
Breaking into the industry was no easy feat. In the beginning, Zheng Tang had relied entirely on her high-achieving girlfriend’s scholarship money to get by. As she slowly gained traction, she began following her company’s strategy, riding the coattails of popular actresses to claw her way to her current status.
Meanwhile, her ex-girlfriend, as exposed by the paparazzi, had been desperately trying to hold onto Zheng Tang until she saw the news about Xu Zhiyi and Zheng Tang seemingly meeting the parents. That was the final straw. She finally snapped and spoke out.
Being well-educated, Zheng Tang’s ex-girlfriend penned a long, heart-wrenching post, condemning Zheng Tang while also subtly lashing out at Xu Zhiyi.
Xu Zhiyi’s fans, known for their fierce loyalty, weren’t about to take this lying down. They immediately flooded the ex-girlfriend’s Weibo, clashing with the so-called “neutral bystanders.”
The online war raged for hours, with no sign of the heat dying down.
Zheng Tang, the person at the center of it all, had yet to respond.
Xu Zhiyi, too, remained silent.
After digesting the entire scandal, Ruan Yang had a rough idea of what was going on.
Scrolling down a bit further, she came across a comment from one of Xu Zhiyi’s fans, saying that Xu Zhiyi was currently filming the historical drama Wild Geese Startle the Sky with Zheng Tang and had probably already seen the news, now figuring out how to respond.
Wild Geese Startle the Sky?
Ruan Yang’s fingers paused over the mouse as she read the comment again.
Why did that title sound so familiar?
She was certain she’d heard it somewhere before.
After racking her brain for a while without success, Ruan Yang decided to search for the drama directly.
It wasn’t until her eyes landed on the director’s name that it suddenly clicked.
Wu Jun.
She finally remembered last time, Professor Wen had mentioned that Wu Jun was working on a historical drama when he asked her to be an assistant.
So, it was this one!
A spark of realization flickered in Ruan Yang’s heart. Her index finger curled unconsciously as she sat in her chair, wrestling with her thoughts for a long moment. Finally, as if steeling herself for a major decision, she picked up her phone.
“Hello, Professor Wen,” she said softly into the receiver after dialing the number.
After a few seconds of silence, she spoke again, her tone resolute, as though she had just made a life-altering choice. “About what you mentioned last time the assistant position for Director Wu.”
“I accept.”
