Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 48.2
Ruan Yang took a step back. “I’m still on duty, so I won’t be joining for a meal. Do you have anything else? If not, I’ll head back upstairs.”
Qu Shanshan froze for a couple of seconds. Seeing she had nothing more to say, Ruan Yang turned and left without hesitation.
Before Qu Shanshan could even react, Ruan Yang had already stepped into the elevator, not leaving even a full view of her back.
She’s gone just like that?
Qu Shanshan pouted in disappointment she hadn’t managed to secure a meal with her senior today.
But it’s okay; just seeing her was good enough.
With that thought, her low spirits lifted a bit. She sighed and hurried out to the car.
The weather was scorching. As soon as she got in, she asked the driver to turn on the air conditioning and closed the window.
Just as she was about to lean back and take a proper nap, her phone rang. Looking down, she saw it was a call from Qu Lingxuan.
Feeling a little guilty, Qu Shanshan answered, “Sis? Why are you calling all of a sudden? I thought you’d be preparing to record your show by now?”
“Qu Shanshan!!!” Qu Lingxuan’s voice on the other end was furious. “You actually went to audition for that play! Now that you’re older, you think you can do whatever you want, huh? I told you not to go! What’s so great about that play anyway? I’ve already lined up your next project every aspect of it is better than the one you went for today!”
Qu Lingxuan was in the middle of getting her makeup done and couldn’t make big expressions even though she was fuming. Gripping her phone tightly, the sight of the photo her driver had just taken and sent to her made her blood pressure spike.
“You going is one thing, and it might even be good for you to audition and realize your own limitations. But how come you didn’t tell me that the director of that project is actually Ruan Yang, the one who saved you last time?!”
How could it be Ruan Yang?
Why was Qu Lingshan so eager to get involved with Ruan Yang? Was it genuine gratitude and admiration for her, or was there something else?
Qu Lingxuan didn’t even dare to think too deeply about it. All she wanted was for her younger sister to stay as far away from Ruan Yang as possible.
The farther, the better!
Qu Shanshan had no idea why her sister was reacting so strongly. She was baffled. “Sis, why are you suddenly so concerned about this? Is it really that important? Can’t I just be genuinely interested in the script and want to take the role?”
“You’d better be interested in the script and not doing it for Ruan Yang!” Qu Lingxuan was beyond exasperated. “Besides, how does that script even compare to the one I picked for you? Can’t you have a little taste?!”
Even someone as slow as Qu Shanshan could tell that her sister had a problem with Ruan Yang. She didn’t understand where this sudden hostility was coming from. Didn’t her sister know that Ruan Yang had saved her?
She mumbled, “I just wanted to thank Senior Ruan Yang for helping me…”
“And what other ways do you have to thank her? Don’t I know your usual antics? You love treating people to meals lunch, then dinner, and even breakfast the next day. Why didn’t you invite her to a meal this time? Instead, you rushed to her company to audition?”
Qu Shanshan: “…”
She would have liked to invite her, but she hadn’t managed to secure the invitation.
Hearing the silence on the other end, Qu Lingxuan felt a headache coming on. She didn’t even care that her makeup was only half done. Standing at the end of the hallway, she widened her eyes and snapped angrily, “I don’t care what you’re thinking. You are not allowed to take that role. Just obediently go act in the one I found for you. If I find out you went behind my back again, just see if I don’t break your legs!”
At this point, a figure lurking in the shadows around the corner finally stirred. Without listening further, they turned around and quietly made their way back to the dressing room.
A few minutes later, Qu Lingxuan returned to the dressing room, where only Xu Zhiyi and her assistant, Jiang Jiang, remained.
Qu Shanshan’s expression was clearly off, but Xu Zhiyi acted as if she hadn’t noticed and casually asked, “I just heard Sister Lingxuan mention Shanshan. Is something wrong with her?”
She played with her newly curled long hair, her movements seemingly casual yet undeniably alluring, as if she were merely making small talk.
Qu Lingxuan always had a lot of patience when it came to Xu Zhiyi, but then she remembered Ruan Yang and the words Ruan Yang had spoken to her outside Xu Zhiyi’s home that day. Her expression turned strange again.
“It’s nothing. My sister is just going through a belated rebellious phase. Don’t worry, it’s not a big deal. I’ll continue with my makeup.”
With that, Qu Lingxuan avoided Xu Zhiyi’s gaze and called the makeup artist back in to finish her makeup.
Qu Lingxuan and Xu Zhiyi were both participating in a lifestyle observation variety show. This schedule had been set long ago, and Xu Zhiyi had agreed to join the show largely out of respect for Qu Lingxuan. Since the program team had limited dressing rooms, they had simply arranged for the two to share one.
“Is that so?” Xu Zhiyi asked indifferently. As she withdrew her gaze, her eyes lingered on Qu Lingxuan’s phone for a fleeting moment.
She recalled the photo she had just seen on Qu Lingxuan’s phone.
It seemed someone had sent it to Qu Lingxuan. The moment Qu Lingxuan opened it, Xu Zhiyi, as if sensing something, instinctively glanced over as well.
With her sharp eyesight and the short distance between them, Xu Zhiyi immediately recognized the two people in the photo.
Ruan Yang was being pulled by Qu Shanshan, the two appearing unusually close, with an underlying hint of intimacy.
Qu Lingxuan grew anxious upon seeing the photo, stood up, asked the makeup artist to pause, and stepped outside to make a phone call.
Xu Zhiyi’s makeup had just been finished, so she dismissed the makeup artist and followed Qu Lingxuan into the hallway, overhearing the earlier conversation.
But Xu Zhiyi said nothing. Instead, she opened her own phone, deftly navigated to her chat history with Ruan Yang, and stared blankly at the notification at the bottom: “The other party has withdrawn a message.”
In fact, she had been staring at this screen for two whole days.
She looked up at Jiang Jiang, then tapped twice on Ruan Yang’s profile picture.
Jiang Jiang quickly understood Xu Zhiyi’s intention and stepped out of the dressing room to make a call.
An eerie silence fell over the dressing room. Qu Lingxuan, for once, didn’t initiate conversation with Xu Zhiyi, who paid it no mind.
By the time Qu Lingxuan finished her makeup and left, Jiang Jiang had just returned.
Only the two of them remained in the dressing room.
“What has Ruan Yang been up to lately?” Xu Zhiyi asked.
Having worked with Ruan Yang for years, Jiang Jiang was somewhat aware of Xu Zhiyi’s family dynamics. Hesitating, she replied, “I just made some calls and asked around. Assistant Ruan, for some reason recently joined Run Ying.”
And Run Ying was a subsidiary of the Xu family.
“Run Ying?” Xu Zhiyi tilted her head in confusion, disbelief flickering in her eyes. She repeated, “She joined Run Ying?”
Why would Ruan Yang suddenly join Run Ying? Did she do it on her own?
Xu Zhiyi glanced again at the notification of Ruan Yang’s withdrawn message.
In the past, Xu Zhiyi would have been displeased, she had always strictly forbidden Ruan Qingyu and Ruan Yang from coveting any part of the Xu family’s assets.
But perhaps because she had been interacting more with Ruan Yang lately, this time, Xu Zhiyi felt no anger at all.
Instead, she was more curious.
Remembering what she had overheard from Qu Lingxuan earlier, she asked again, “If I’m not mistaken, is Ruan Yang planning to shoot a film recently?”
Jiang Jiang was astonished by Xu Zhiyi’s intuition, her eyes widening. “How did you know, Sister Zhiyi?! Assistant Ruan really is going to be a director! I heard she personally picked a discarded script from Run Ying and is now pushing to film it, despite all the pressure from the company!”
As she spoke, Jiang Jiang couldn’t help but marvel, “Assistant Ruan is really going all out this time, facing the challenge head-on. I just wonder if she’ll end up being laughed at by everyone if she can’t turn things around.”
“Go ask Sister Liang for me,” Xu Zhiyi interrupted, her gaze fixed on her reflection in the mirror, though it was unclear which word had triggered her. “Ask if she can get me a copy of the script.”
Jiang Jiang was caught off guard by the interruption. It took her a moment to process what Xu Zhiyi had just said.
Had she misunderstood?
“Sister Zhiyi, do you mean the script for Assistant Ruan’s project?”
“But you never accept Run Ying’s productions!!!”
Jiang Jiang wanted to ask this follow-up question, but ultimately held back.
Yet, Xu Zhiyi could read the astonishment in Jiang Jiang’s eyes.
In the mirror, Xu Zhiyi’s red lips parted slightly, the corners of her eyes lifted just a touch, and beneath her exquisite makeup lay an undeniable air of languid charm.
“Who said I’d definitely accept it?”
Her tone was light, almost airy. “I’m just taking a look.”
Just looking, that’s all.
Qu Lingxuan: That silly sister of mine who’s always treating me to meals QAQ.
