Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 49
“Just looking, really?” Jiangjiang was skeptical of Xu Zhiyi’s words. “If the company finds out you’re considering a role from Runying, especially Sister Liang, she’d be so shocked she’d jump out of her seat.”
It wasn’t as if Runying hadn’t approached Zhiyi before, but she had always refused every offer. She had even explicitly told the company and her agent, Sister Liang, not to accept any scripts from Runying for her.
Zhiyi had never disclosed her relationship with the Xu Group to Xunguang Entertainment. It was only because Jiangjiang had been with Xu Zhiyi for a long time that she knew a little about it. Otherwise, a company like Xunguang, which was used to bullying the weak and fearing the strong, wouldn’t have dared to give Zhiyi such a hard time over her contract termination before.
Zhiyi herself had always been principled. Even when she wasn’t popular and had no roles to take, she wouldn’t touch Runying’s projects. Now that she was famous and had more autonomy, she didn’t even glance at Runying’s offers.
Thinking of this, Jiangjiang gave Xu Zhiyi a complicated look.
Was she making an exception for Assistant Xiao Ruan?
“…” For a moment, Xu Zhiyi didn’t know how to respond. She looked up, a hint of fluster in her eyes at being seen through. “You’ve gotten bold lately, haven’t you? Daring to tease me now. Go ask Sister Liang about it, and stop hovering around me.”
Jiangjiang glanced at Xu Zhiyi’s expression she wasn’t truly angry but she didn’t dare to push further. She quickly agreed and hurried out of the dressing room.
Soon, Xu Zhiyi was alone in the dressing room again, staring at her phone screen.
She lowered her gaze, the overhead light casting shadows from her long lashes across her face.
Meanwhile, Ruan Yang had finished her weekend tasks and returned to school for classes. As soon as she stepped into the classroom, Fang Yao, sitting beside Lu Yiye, waved at her, gesturing for her to join them.
Ruan Yang glanced at Lu Yiye beside Fang Yao but said nothing. Instead, she walked straight to the other side of the classroom and took a seat in a corner.
It had been a long time since their last meeting, and this was a required course, so they finally crossed paths again.
Ruan Yang’s cold attitude made Lu Yiye’s expression darken instantly.
Fang Yao, noticing Ruan Yang’s behavior, looked equally puzzled. He asked Lu Yiye, “Did you two have a fight?”
Lu Yiye didn’t even look at him, silently opening her tablet.
The morning classes passed quickly. As soon as the lecture ended, Ruan Yang grabbed her bag and left the classroom. The room was on the first floor, and just as she was about to turn a corner, a familiar voice called out to her from behind.
“Yangyang.”
It was Lu Yiye’s voice. Ruan Yang turned around to see Lu Yiye staring intently at her, with Fang Yao looking bewildered beside her.
“What is it?” Ruan Yang slipped her hands into her pockets, her tone icy.
She didn’t step closer, and the distance between them seemed to widen instantly.
Most of the students had already left after class, and since this classroom was in a quieter part of the building, the hallway was nearly empty except for the few of them.
Unwilling to let it go, Lu Yiye took a few steps forward. “Yesterday, when I got back, I noticed a lot of your things were missing. You came back, didn’t you?”
She forced a smile, pretending as if nothing had happened. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming back? I haven’t seen you at the apartment these past few days.”
“I’ve already moved out,” Ruan Yang interrupted her, her amber eyes locking onto Lu Yiye’s as if trying to peer straight into her soul. “I’ll come back for the rest of my things when I have time.”
Those words nearly shattered the forced smile on Lu Yiye’s face. After a long silence, Fang Yao, standing close to Lu Yiye, could even see the tremble in her jawline.
“Why?” Lu Yiye’s smile faded, her slightly narrowed eyes now sharp with intensity. “Because of that pot of flowers? Yangyang, are you really going to be this heartless over a pot of flowers?”
It was far more than just an ordinary pot of roses.
Ruan Yang couldn’t be bothered to explain the significance of that flower to Lu Yiye anymore. She had even lost the patience to continue this confrontation.
“Yes,” Ruan Yang replied coldly.
Lu Yiye’s eyes flickered visibly, her expression wounded. Her nails dug into her palms. “I always thought we were friends, Yangyang. We’ve known each other for three years, been friends for so long and it all comes down to a single pot of roses?”
Fang Yao, utterly confused, finally spoke up: “What are you two talking about? Yiye, what’s going on between you and Ruan Yang? What roses?”
Lu Yiye stared at Ruan Yang for a long moment, waiting for a response that never came. Eventually, she turned to Fang Yao and asked, “On Xu Zhiyi’s birthday, I gave you both tickets. Did you go alone?”
At the mention of Xu Zhiyi’s name, Ruan Yang glanced at Fang Yao.
“Xu Zhiyi?” Fang Yao looked even more bewildered. “Why are you suddenly asking about that? I went alone that day. You told me to save the other ticket for Ruan Yang, but Ruan Yang doesn’t even like my idol, why would she go with me?”
“She didn’t go?” Lu Yiye’s shoulders seemed to slump slightly. She turned back to Ruan Yang and repeated, “She didn’t go?”
The question made Ruan Yang frown, her tone colder than before. “That’s none of your business.”
“And if I insist on an answer?” Lu Yiye’s voice rose, her gaze fixed unwaveringly on Ruan Yang, scrutinizing every flicker of emotion on her face. “If I insist on an answer, Yangyang?”
“Yiye,” Ruan Yang’s eyes darkened, as if she had lost the last shred of patience. “Is this question really that important to you? If you want answers so badly, then can you give me a clear answer to what I want to know?”
Just as Lu Yiye opened her mouth to respond, Ruan Yang continued, “Was it really an accident that the flowers got rained on?”
At this, Lu Yiye’s eyes wavered. She lowered her head and let out a bitter laugh. “You still don’t trust me.”
Ruan Yang watched her feigned innocence with a cold gaze before turning to face her fully.
“You should know better than anyone how those flowers ended up ruined by the rain,” Ruan Yang said. “Your clothes were barely wet that day, and the umbrella outside didn’t have much rain on it meaning you came back long before the rain got heavy.”
The memory of those roses, battered and broken by the rain, made Ruan Yang’s jaw tighten.
“But when I came back, there were a lot of water stains on the floor. Lu Yiye, even now, are you still insisting it wasn’t intentional?”
Before her words had even fully landed, Fang Yao beside Lu Yiye could clearly see the change in her expression.
If the rain wasn’t heavy, she wouldn’t have had to come back, but the obvious water stains on the floor meant she could have retrieved that pot of flowers earlier. Instead, she deliberately waited until the rain was heavier to bring it inside.
“I didn’t want to spell it out, to leave some dignity between us,” Ruan Yang studied her expression. “Yiye, you’ve helped me a lot over the years.”
The implication was that she didn’t want things to get ugly with Lu Yiye. But if Lu Yiye continued down this path, she wouldn’t even spare their past friendship.
Lu Yiye’s face turned even paler in an instant.
Seeing that Lu Yiye seemed to have nothing more to say, Ruan Yang turned to leave.
But the moment she moved, Lu Yiye nearly shouted, “You said I helped you, but back then when you asked for my help when you had the entertainment company under my family hire online trolls to flood Weibo and expose Zheng Tang’s past infidelities was it for Xu Zhiyi?”
To Lu Yiye, it had just been a small favor. After all, Zheng Tang wasn’t an artist under her family’s company. At the time, she hadn’t understood why Ruan Yang was doing this, assuming Zheng Tang must have somehow offended Ruan Yang.
But later, she realized that exposing Zheng Tang’s true nature was the only way to clear Xu Zhiyi’s name amid the scandal.
“Yes,” Ruan Yang answered without hesitation, then turned and walked out of the building.
Fang Yao had no idea what had transpired between them. All he saw was Lu Yiye standing frozen for a long time after Ruan Yang left, before finally letting out a hollow laugh.
“Wh-what’s wrong, Yiye?” Fang Yao found this version of Lu Yiye unfamiliar. “What exactly happened between you and Ruan Yang? Just tell me already, stop being so cryptic!”
He was practically dying of curiosity!
Lu Yiye lifted her head, all the emotions in her eyes suddenly vanishing.
She looked toward the door and abruptly asked, out of nowhere, “Fang Yao, what kind of person do you think would be worthy of someone like Yangyang?”
Fang Yao had never really thought about it. Over the years, he’d never seen anyone close to Ruan Yang besides him and Lu Yiye.
“Well!” He pondered seriously. “Probably, an incredibly beautiful Omega.”
Lu Yiye tilted her head slightly and asked, her tone eerily flat, “Beautiful like Xu Zhiyi?”
The way she said Xu Zhiyi’s name sent an inexplicable chill down Fang Yao’s spine.
Though he didn’t understand why Lu Yiye was suddenly comparing his goddess to this, Fang Yao froze for a few seconds, picturing the scenario. Strangely enough, if Xu Zhiyi and Ruan Yang stood side by side, they would actually make a strikingly perfect pair.
Seeing Fang Yao fall silent, a thick layer of ice spread through Lu Yiye’s eyes.
“But I think,” she said slowly, “for someone as outstanding as Yangyang, the one worthy of her should be an equally outstanding Alpha.”
Omegas are too fragile.
Not only would they fail to support Yangyang, they would only hinder her future and ambitions.
How can this be?
She lowered her head, staring at her fingertips, and murmured, “No.”
This won’t do.
Ruan Yang had just stepped out of the teaching building when, not long after, she felt the faint vibration of the phone she always kept clutched in her pocket.
Her heart surged with anticipation once more, but after so many days, Ruan Yang had learned to suppress this rising hope with practiced ease.
Yet even as she thought this, her hands moved swiftly to pull out the phone and unlock it.
She had intended to just glance at it, if the message wasn’t important, she’d reply later.
But to her surprise, the moment she looked, her eyes widened in shock.
The notification she had been waiting for over five days finally appeared.
Contrary to her expectations, Xu Zhiyi didn’t ask what she had withdrawn. Instead, the message came through in a casual tone:
[Finished class?]
