Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 35.2
Watching as the men lifted Qu Shanshan and carried her away, Ruan Yang quietly took out her phone, called the police in a low voice, and then sent Jiangjiang a message saying she had something to take care of and would meet her later.
After that, Ruan Yang lightened her footsteps and followed them.
Outside the door was a seldom-used path. A short walk ahead led to a small gate that exited S University.
Ruan Yang glanced around. The area was so remote that even the broken surveillance cameras had never been repaired. Keeping a safe distance, she cautiously trailed behind.
Su Xinzhi took Qu Shanshan out of the campus, shoved her into his car, and drove off in another direction.
The deep night provided perfect cover for Ruan Yang. She hurried out and hailed a taxi. The two cars drove one after the other.
Unaware that he was being followed, Su Xinzhi cheerfully parked his car in front of a hotel about four kilometers from the campus. After carrying Qu Shanshan out of the car, he instructed his two lackeys to drive away.
Then, he took Qu Shanshan into the hotel elevator and headed toward the room he had booked in advance.
Ruan Yang followed all the way to the hallway and watched as Su Xinzhi closed the door.
As soon as she confirmed that Su Xinzhi’s destination was this hotel, Ruan Yang had sent the address to the police.
The police hadn’t arrived yet. Standing outside the door, Ruan Yang tapped a few times on her phone, then began pounding loudly on the door.
“Who is it?!” Su Xinzhi’s irritated voice sounded from inside, followed by footsteps approaching the door.
Ruan Yang pressed herself against the wall beside the door. The moment Su Xinzhi hesitantly opened it, she rushed in and kicked him squarely in the abdomen.
“Oof!” Su Xinzhi fell flat on his back, and the phone in his hand skidded across the floor.
Ruan Yang glanced at Qu Shanshan, who lay unconscious on the bed. Her clothes were still neatly in place.
Su Xinzhi’s clothes on the ground were still relatively intact. Ruan Yang walked over, picked up the phone, and discovered that Su Xinzhi had taken several photos of himself pressed close to the unconscious Qu Shanshan.
He probably wanted to show off to others that he had successfully pursued Qu Shanshan.
Ruan Yang expressionlessly deleted all the photos, including those in the recycle bin, then threw the phone back in front of Su Xinzhi.
With a sharp crack, the phone screen shattered into a spiderweb pattern.
Only then did Su Xinzhi realize it was Ruan Yang. Propping himself up with one hand on the ground and clutching his aching stomach with the other, he shouted angrily, “You again, Ruan Yang! How did you find this place?!”
“Guess,” Ruan Yang replied coldly, her gaze icy.
When she looked down at someone, the amber color of her pupils seemed to grow even lighter, and the sudden pressure she exuded sent a chill down one’s spine.
Su Xinzhi was so frightened by her stare that he scrambled backward a few steps, his face pale with panic. “What do you want, Ruan Yang?! I’m warning you, if you lay a hand on me, my family won’t let you get away with it!”
“When you drugged her, did you ever stop to think that her family wouldn’t let you get away with it either?” Ruan Yang said softly.
“What does that have to do with you? Didn’t you say you’re not her partner? So what business is it of yours if I drugged her? Get out of here now, you hear me?!”
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway, sounding as though they were heading in their direction.
Ruan Yang shoved her hands into her pockets. “I can leave, but—”
Before she could finish, a group of dark figures appeared behind her.
She bent down slightly, her long black hair falling forward and hiding the faint smirk on her lips. “They need to come in.”
Su Xinzhi’s face turned deathly pale as he saw the police officers at the door, as if he had just seen a ghost.
Trembling, he pointed a shaky finger at Ruan Yang. “You, you!”
Ignoring him, Ruan Yang walked over to the bed to check on Qu Shanshan.
Qu Shanshan lay motionless on the bed, breathing evenly, looking as though she were in a deep, peaceful sleep.
Before Ruan Yang could reach out to touch her, Su Xinzhi suddenly spoke up, his voice filled with agitation. “Officers, it’s her! She’s the one who drugged the woman on the bed! I tried to stop her, but she beat me up and smashed my phone!”
Ruan Yang glanced back. Su Xinzhi was glaring at her furiously, and the shattered phone on the floor seemed to silently echo his accusations.
The police officers at the door hesitated, momentarily confused.
The person who had called in the report had spoken in a low voice, making it impossible to tell their gender, and subsequent communication had been via text messages. Given the current situation, with the man on the floor looking far more disheveled, they couldn’t immediately determine who had actually drugged the woman on the bed.
Ruan Yang glanced at Su Xinzhi on the floor, her expression completely unruffled.
Her calm demeanor made Su Xinzhi shrink back in fear. He grew even more frantic, shouting at the police, “Arrest her! She did all of this! It has nothing to do with me.”
“What does that have to do with you? Didn’t you say you’re not her partner? So what business is it of yours if I drugged her? Get out of here now, you hear me?”
A voice, mixed with static and background noise, cut off Su Xinzhi’s accusations.
Su Xinzhi immediately recognized it as his own voice. Trembling all over, he looked up at Ruan Yang in horror.
There stood Ruan Yang, lazily positioned by the bedside, one hand holding her phone while the other tapped the pause button.
“Want to hear it again?” she asked casually, “I can play it for you as many times as you want.”
Su Xinzhi had initially thought he could muddle through with a few lies to confuse the police, but this recording had now firmly trapped him in an inescapable predicament, leaving no room for denial.
He never imagined Ruan Yang had actually recorded their conversation!
His eyes widened in disbelief, glaring at Ruan Yang as if they might pop out at any moment.
The police at the door quickly reacted, stepping forward to restrain Su Xinzhi, who was already paralyzed with fear.
Not long after, Qu Shanshan also regained consciousness. The police needed to take her back for tests to determine if she had been drugged, which would influence the subsequent handling of Su Xinzhi’s case.
As Qu Shanshan walked out of the room, she spotted Ruan Yang standing by the door.
She approached her.
“Are you okay?” Ruan Yang asked.
“I’m fine,” Qu Shanshan replied with a faint smile. “Just a bit weak, but otherwise alright.”
That smile made Ruan Yang take a second look. “Aren’t you scared? You can still smile.”
Ruan Yang hadn’t actually expected Qu Shanshan to show up and meet with Su Xinzhi and his group. Most people wouldn’t have had that kind of courage.
But Qu Shanshan had actually come.
Qu Shanshan’s hands, hidden behind her back, trembled slightly. Softly, she said, “That’s because I trusted you.”
She had always felt this way Ruan Yang carried a strangely reassuring presence.
It was like this during filming on set, and it was the same when Ruan Yang had asked her earlier if she wanted to resolve the Su Xinzhi matter once and for all.
Ruan Yang seemed momentarily stunned. She parted her lips as if about to say something when her phone buzzed again from her pocket.
A flash of realization struck Ruan Yang’s mind. Her eyes widened abruptly as she remembered what she had completely forgotten.
The gala.
Tonight’s gala!
She pulled out her phone to check the time it was already past 9 p.m. According to the schedule, Xu Zhiyi’s performance should be nearly over.
Without a moment to spare for thought, Ruan Yang told Qu Lingxuan to inform the police that she would give her statement tomorrow and then dashed toward the elevator.
By the time she hailed a taxi back to S University and sprinted all the way to the theater, the evening’s gala appeared to have already ended.
The theater doors were wide open, with crowds of audience members streaming out, enthusiastically discussing the night’s performances.
“Xu Zhiyi looked absolutely stunning tonight, oh my god! And her singing was incredible is there anything she can’t do?”
“Even from far away, I could feel the impact of her beauty. My mind is still full of Xu Zhiyi from the entire show. I’m going to be kept awake tonight just thinking about how gorgeous she was, wuwu.”
The name “Xu Zhiyi” acted like a spell, allowing Ruan Yang to spot the two girls talking about her amidst the bustling crowd.
She hurried over and asked, “Excuse me, has Xu Zhiyi’s performance already ended?”
The two girls were startled by Ruan Yang’s sudden question. They replied, “Yeah, it ended a while ago. You came to see Zhiyi too, right? You’re too late, the whole gala is over. You’ll have to wait and search for the replay online.”
With that, the two girls walked away.
Ruan Yang stood frozen for a few seconds before pulling out her phone to ask Jiang Jiang where Xu Zhiyi was now.
Jiang Jiang didn’t reply immediately. Growing anxious, Ruan Yang began pushing against the crowd, running back toward the theater entrance.
She rushed into the theater and headed backstage, but was denied entry. She had no choice but to ask the staff where Xu Zhiyi had gone. However, the staff mistook her for Xu Zhiyi’s obsessive stalker and tried to drive Ruan Yang away.
Ruan Yang had no option but to pull up her chat history with Jiang Jiang to prove she wasn’t a stalker.
But the staff didn’t interact much with Xu Zhiyi and didn’t recognize Jiang Jiang’s WeChat account, so they still insisted on making Ruan Yang leave.
Just as the argument was heating up, Ruan Yang’s phone buzzed with a new message.
It was from Jiang Jiang, but unlike her usual messaging style, this time it was just two short words: “West Gate.”
The West Gate was in the complete opposite direction of the theater. Ruan Yang dashed toward it at full speed.
None of the audience members who had just watched the evening performance had left through this gate, so the area was nearly empty. When Ruan Yang arrived, she spotted a van parked outside almost immediately.
As she approached, the van’s window slowly rolled down.
The moonlight that night was exceptionally bright, almost rendering the streetlights unnecessary.
Soft, silvery moonlight cascaded down, illuminating Xu Zhiyi’s face with a gentle, pristine glow, making her look like a celestial being about to ascend to the heavens in the next moment.
Ruan Yang walked toward her step by step.
It wasn’t until she reached the window that Xu Zhiyi finally turned her head to glance at her.
Seeing Ruan Yang, she didn’t say much, only remarking coolly, “Get in the car. Your mother asked me to bring you back.”
Ruan Yang’s fingers, clutching the hairpin in her pocket, trembled slightly. She stared at Xu Zhiyi’s hair.
Freshly removed of makeup and with her hairstyle undone, Xu Zhiyi’s chestnut-colored long curls cascaded softly behind her. A few stray strands rebelliously sprung up, adding a touch of unique charm.
As if steeling herself with resolve, Ruan Yang withdrew her hand from her pocket, revealing the sunny doll hairpin in her palm right before Xu Zhiyi’s eyes.
Xu Zhiyi stared at the hairpin for a while, her gaze calm. After a long pause, she suddenly let out a soft laugh.
Her tone laced with a hint of sarcasm, she said, “Ruan Yang, I don’t want things that others have already picked over.”
Ruan Yang pressed her lips together, once again recalling the black car she had seen earlier that day.
She didn’t ask why Xu Zhiyi would say such a thing.
Instead, she silently extended her hand a little further, bringing the hairpin closer to Xu Zhiyi.
“It’s not something others have picked over,” Ruan Yang’s voice was softer than ever before.
Her eyes and brows softened as she coaxed gently, as if speaking to the most precious treasure in the world, “I bought it just for you.”
Just for you.
