Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 35.1
Xu Zhiyi quickly arrived at the backstage lounge of the event. As soon as she entered, she saw Qu Lingxuan on a phone call.
It was unclear who she was talking to, but Qu Lingxuan was laughing happily. Xu Zhiyi had intended to head straight to her assigned lounge, but Qu Lingxuan reached out to stop her, mouthing the words, “Wait for me a moment.”
Xu Zhiyi had no choice but to wait nearby.
Qu Lingxuan’s call didn’t last long, she hung up after about a minute. She then asked Xu Zhiyi to accompany her to the entrance to pick someone up.
Xu Zhiyi smiled and asked, “Who is it that requires our Lingxuan to personally greet them?”
“It’s my younger sister,” Qu Lingxuan replied, looking delighted. “I haven’t seen her in a long time. Since I’m at her university today, I thought I’d take the chance to meet up with her.”
“Younger sister?” Xu Zhiyi was puzzled.
This was the first time she had heard that Qu Lingxuan had a sister.
“Yes, my biological sister,” Qu Lingxuan said, leading Xu Zhiyi toward the staff-only passage near the theater’s side entrance. “She’s studying at the Film School of S University. Come to think of it, she’s your direct junior.”
She glanced at Xu Zhiyi and, noticing her surprise, added, “My sister is quite proud and has been a bit spoiled by our family. She didn’t want others to know she’s my sister, so I never mentioned it.”
Xu Zhiyi nodded.
As they continued forward, still some distance from the entrance, they spotted a girl waving energetically and shouting, “Sis! Over here!”
Almost the moment she heard the voice, Xu Zhiyi lifted her head.
Her gaze fixed intently on the girl’s face in the distance.
Qu Lingxuan didn’t notice Xu Zhiyi’s unusual reaction. Smiling, she walked toward the girl. “Shanshan.”
Qu Shanshan was equally excited to see her sister. She immediately gave Qu Lingxuan a hug. “I’ve missed you so much, sis.”
As the two exchanged greetings, Xu Zhiyi’s eyes inadvertently drifted to the girl behind Qu Shanshan before settling on the hair clip in Qu Shanshan’s hair.
She narrowed her eyes.
Yes, it was her.
The same girl for whom Ruan Yang had bought the hair clip earlier, and the one who had complained a few days ago that Ruan Yang had made her lose seven pounds.
But Xu Zhiyi never expected such a coincidence she was even Qu Lingxuan’s sister.
After the two sisters finished catching up, Qu Lingxuan led Qu Shanshan inside. Since Qu Lingxuan had personally come to fetch her, the staff didn’t stop them.
Qu Shanshan had noticed Xu Zhiyi earlier, but she had been too excited upon seeing her sister. Now that she had calmed down, she nudged Qu Lingxuan and quietly pointed toward Xu Zhiyi.
“No need for introductions, I suppose,” Qu Lingxuan said, turning to Qu Shanshan. “You young people should already know Zhiyi.”
Then, looking at Xu Zhiyi, she added, “Zhiyi, this is my sister, Qu Shanshan. You can call her Shanshan.”
Qu Shanshan grinned. “Sister Zhiyi, may I call you that? I really admire you. Our teacher often mentions you, saying you’re the most talented student she’s taught in years.”
Xu Zhiyi smiled back, though her expression held a subtle, unreadable nuance.
“Of course,” she replied.
After a pause of a few seconds, she smiled, her eyes crinkling, and asked as if casually, “Did you come alone?”
Seeing Qu Lingxuan look over, she added, “You’re an Omega, right? So beautiful, even I’m captivated. I’m a bit worried if it’s safe for you to come alone.”
Qu Lingxuan found this remark strange, but Qu Shanshan didn’t seem to notice anything amiss.
Hearing the national crush, Xu Zhiyi, compliment her beauty, Qu Lingxuan was so overjoyed she felt dizzy: “A senior brought me here, and I don’t have a partner yet. Don’t worry, Zhiyi-jie, our campus is very safe, and the students are generally well-behaved. Nothing bad will happen.”
Xu Zhiyi smiled, but the smile didn’t quite reach her eyes. “That’s good.”
“Senior?” Hearing this, Qu Lingxuan forgot to question why Xu Zhiyi had suddenly brought up such a topic and instead looked suspiciously at Qu Shanshan. “Are you sure it’s not your partner?”
Qu Shanshan’s mind quickly flashed back to Ruan Yang’s swift denial: “It’s not.”
The smile on her lips faded slightly before quickly returning to normal. “Of course not, what are you thinking, sis?”
Qu Lingxuan believed her. “Alright, then remember to thank your senior properly later.”
“I don’t want to thank her,” Qu Shanshan muttered under her breath.
Xu Zhiyi, watching Qu Shanshan’s pouting expression, felt her smile stiffen slightly.
She turned to Qu Lingxuan. “Lingxuan-jie, since I’ve already greeted you, I need to go try on my outfit for tonight. I’ll take my leave now.”
“Mm,” Qu Lingxuan truly felt that Xu Zhiyi was acting strange today. She nodded. “Go ahead, I’ll come find you later.”
Before leaving, Xu Zhiyi took one last glance at the smiling bear clip on Qu Shanshan’s hair before turning away.
Watching Xu Zhiyi’s retreating figure, Qu Shanshan couldn’t help but reach up and touch the clip on her head. She turned to Qu Lingxuan and asked, “Does this clip look good, sis?”
Qu Lingxuan glanced at it. “It’s quite cute, very much your style.”
“Is it Zhiyi-jie’s style?” Qu Shanshan asked.
“…” Qu Lingxuan took another look at the slightly cross-eyed bear, seemingly pondering how to phrase her response without hurting Qu Shanshan’s feelings.
After a moment’s hesitation, she said, “This style probably isn’t something Zhiyi would like.”
Qu Shanshan found it even more puzzling.
If Zhiyi-jie didn’t like this style, why had she glanced at Qu Shanshan’s head over a dozen times in just a few minutes?
“Why are you asking?” Qu Lingxuan, seeing Xu Zhiyi disappear around the corner, assumed she was just in a bad mood today.
She decided to go check on Xu Zhiyi and said to Qu Shanshan, “Let me take you to my lounge first. You can hang out there for a bit, and I’ll come find you later, okay?”
“Just asking casually,” Qu Shanshan started to agree, but something suddenly flashed through her mind. As if jolted awake, she quickly grabbed Qu Lingxuan’s arm. “No!”
Qu Lingxuan was taken aback as Qu Shanshan clung to her with all her strength.
Ruan Yang’s cold voice echoed in her mind once more: “You can have the holiday, but I have one condition. On the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival gala, after you see your sister, you must stick with her the entire day. Except for when she’s performing on stage, you two must not be separated for a single moment. Understood?”
Although she found the reason quite odd at the time, Qu Shanshan agreed to it for the sake of the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. After all, it was just about staying with her sister nothing too difficult.
Now was the time to fulfill her promise.
“No way! We finally get to see each other. I want you to spend more time with me,” Qu Shanshan whined to Qu Lingxuan. “Stay with me and take me to explore backstage!”
Why was everyone acting so strangely today?
Qu Lingxuan was filled with confusion, but with Qu Shanshan clinging to her persistently, she had no choice but to give up on the idea of looking for Xu Zhiyi.
Some tickets for the evening event were distributed to students at S University. A few who received them immediately resold the tickets on the university forum.
Ruan Yang found out too late and had no complimentary tickets, so she had to buy a front-row seat at a high price from a student who had one.
By early evening, the audience was allowed to enter the venue. Ruan Yang found her seat an excellent spot, front and center, offering a clear view of the performers on stage.
Pleased with the location, she set up her camera but hadn’t turned it on yet. Xu Zhiyi’s performance was scheduled for later.
As she sat quietly in her seat, her phone suddenly buzzed. Pulling it out, she saw a message from Jiangjiang, asking if she had come to the event and offering to bring her an extra ticket.
Ruan Yang initially intended to say she was already inside, but then she remembered the hairpin in her pocket. She replied, asking Jiangjiang where she was.
Jiangjiang said she was near the theater’s side entrance and would be easy to spot.
Ruan Yang stood up, asked the student next to her to keep an eye on her equipment, and left her seat.
As a film directing student, Ruan Yang frequented the theater often. Instead of taking the usual route to the side entrance, she chose a little-known shortcut inside the theater.
The shortcut led directly to the side entrance and was much closer, but it had one drawback, the lighting was extremely dim.
With almost no lights on, Ruan Yang used her phone’s flashlight to illuminate the way as she walked forward.
“Don’t worry, Xinzhi Ge. I’ve already sent a staff member to call Qu Shanshan out.”
After walking a short distance, Ruan Yang suddenly heard voices from around the corner ahead. Recognizing Qu Shanshan’s name, she immediately stopped and dimmed her phone’s screen.
Unaware of anyone nearby, the speaker continued, “Qu Shanshan has been sticking close to Qu Lingxuan all day. We couldn’t find an opportunity, so we had to use the excuse that her teacher was looking for her. Maybe only then could a staff member lure her out.”
Su Xinzhi clicked his tongue impatiently. “If she doesn’t show up, you’ll see how I deal with you!”
The person on the other end seemed frightened and fell silent.
Another voice chimed in, “Qu Shanshan cares a lot about her grades, and she hasn’t been to school for a month. She’ll definitely come. Don’t worry, Xinzhi Ge. As soon as she arrives, I’ll use this stuff to knock her out!”
The exit where the group stood led directly to the backstage corridor’s emergency exit.
A faint, bitter scent lingered in the air, barely noticeable unless one paid close attention.
After listening, Ruan Yang thought for a moment, then leaned against the wall, took out her phone, dimmed the screen to its lowest brightness, and sent Qu Shanshan a message detailing everything she had just overheard.
Qu Shanshan replied with a string of angry emojis.
Knowing the urgency of the situation, she didn’t waste time venting about Su Xinzhi with Ruan Yang or panicking. Instead, she calmly asked whether they should call the police or inform her sister.
Qu Lingxuan had already gone backstage and wouldn’t return for at least another ten minutes or so.
A staff member had already come to notify Qu Lingxuan that someone was looking for her. Qu Lingxuan asked Ruan Yang once more what she should do.
Ruan Yang fell silent for a long moment before suddenly sending a message: “Do you want to get rid of Su Xinzhi’s nuisance once and for all?”
Qu Lingxuan’s reply came quickly: “What do you mean?”
“If you want to settle this for good, then go out and meet them as they said.”
After sending the message, Ruan Yang turned off her phone, slipped it into her pocket, and waited quietly.
About four or five minutes later, faint footsteps approached. Ruan Yang turned her head and saw Qu Shanshan walking over.
As soon as she arrived, Qu Shanshan asked impatiently, “What are you calling me to this godforsaken place for, Mmph!”
But before she could finish her sentence, someone covered her mouth with a cloth.
Within seconds, Qu Shanshan’s struggles gradually weakened, and her sounds ceased.
