Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 31.2
Qu Lingxuan’s smile stiffened. Was this person so socially inept that they couldn’t grasp the implied meaning?
“Zhiyi is here alone,” she tried again. “I’m worried about leaving her, so I need to stay with her.”
“I’m worried too,” Ruan Yang said, turning off her phone and looking directly at Qu Lingxuan. “Jiang Jiang asked me to take good care of Sister Zhiyi, so I have to stay and watch over her.”
Qu Lingxuan’s smile was now barely holding on. “I can help you look after Zhiyi.”
“Jiang Jiang is Sister Zhiyi’s assistant. She asked me to take care of Sister Zhiyi, so it’s only reasonable for me to stay here.” Ruan Yang’s tone carried a hint of curiosity. “But you, why do you need to take care of Sister Zhiyi? What are you to her? As far as I know, Sister Zhiyi doesn’t have a girlfriend.”
She even managed to inject just the right amount of puzzlement into her expression, which finally shattered Qu Lingxuan’s composure. The smile vanished completely, replaced by a flash of anger in her eyes.
Xu Zhiyi, sitting on the bed, hid her faintly upturned lips behind her water glass.
This was the first time she had seen Ruan Yang like this.
If anyone ever claimed Ruan Yang wasn’t cut out for acting, she’d have to describe Ruan Yang’s expression right now in vivid detail.
Qu Lingxuan glared coldly at Ruan Yang. She wanted to retort, but for some reason, she couldn’t find the words.
How could she, of all people, be rendered speechless by a mere assistant!
Xu Zhiyi glanced at Qu Lingxuan’s expression, worried she might truly lose her temper. Quickly setting down her cup, she tugged at Qu Lingxuan’s sleeve.
“Alright, Sister Lingxuan, forget about the water. I’m still a bit tired and want to rest. You should head back now, and we’ll see each other tomorrow.”
Qu Lingxuan couldn’t bring herself to be angry with Xu Zhiyi. Shifting her gaze away from Ruan Yang, she patted Xu Zhiyi’s shoulder and forced a smile. “Okay.”
With that, she stood and walked toward the door.
As she passed Ruan Yang, she paused and said in a low voice, “Zhiyi said she needs to rest. Don’t disturb her sleep.”
Ruan Yang raised an eyebrow, turned, and left the room ahead of her.
Qu Lingxuan waved goodbye to Xu Zhiyi and closed the door behind her as she stepped out.
Jiang Jiang had returned and was clearly surprised to see Qu Lingxuan there. “Sister Lingxuan, what are you doing here too?”
The moment the door closed, Qu Lingxuan’s expression fell.
Her face dark, she asked Jiang Jiang, “Where were you just now?”
Jiang Jiang sensed the tense atmosphere and instinctively shrank back. “I, I went to eat. Why? Is something wrong?”
This was a high-end hospital ward, and the hallway was relatively quiet. Qu Lingxuan’s voice rose slightly. “You went to eat? Your Sister Zhiyi is still inside on an IV, and as her assistant, you just went off to eat? Is that how you do your job?”
The sudden accusation left Jiang Jiang utterly bewildered. She pointed at Ruan Yang and said, “Isn’t Assistant Ruan here? Assistant Ruan is very attentive she can take good care of Sister Zhiyi too.”
Her Sister Zhiyi was also happy to be taken care of by her, of course.
But Jiang Jiang wouldn’t say that out loud.
Qu Lingxuan’s expression darkened even further. “I’m going to call your manager, Sister Liang. As an assistant, not only have you failed to properly care for Zhiyi, but you’re also casually handing her over to some shady, unreliable person!”
“Huh?!” Jiang Jiang couldn’t understand why Qu Lingxuan suddenly wanted to call Sister Liang, Sister Zhiyi’s agent. Panicked, she felt tears welling up in her eyes.
Ruan Yang pressed down on Qu Lingxuan’s hand, preventing her from making the call. Her expression stern, she said coldly, “There’s no need for that.”
Qu Lingxuan looked up, momentarily intimidated by the chill in Ruan Yang’s eyes.
“And,” Ruan Yang’s dark pupils seemed to deepen even further as she let out an emotionless laugh, “what do you mean by ‘shady, unreliable person’?”
Her tone sent a shiver down Jiang Jiang’s spine, making her take a step back. This version of Assistant Ruan was a little terrifying!
Qu Lingxuan refused to admit she had been frightened by a junior. She shook off Ruan Yang’s hand. “You’re just an assistant. You have no right to touch me.”
Faced with the choice between Qu Lingxuan, who was threatening to report her, and the currently intimidating Assistant Ruan, Jiang Jiang opted to hide behind Ruan Yang.
Ruan Yang didn’t seem angered by the remark. She simply gestured toward Xu Zhiyi’s door and said, “Zhiyi really likes Jiang Jiang. If you vent your frustrations on others just because you’re unhappy and end up getting Jiang Jiang fired, Zhiyi will be upset.”
“How dare you call her ‘Zhiyi’?” Qu Lingxuan’s tone dripped with disdain, the kind of condescension often displayed by those in power toward their subordinates.
But Ruan Yang was right Zhiyi did genuinely like this assistant.
Suddenly noticing a break room at the end of the hallway, Qu Lingxuan put her phone away and said coldly, “Fine, I won’t make the call. But you need to come with me to the break room to talk. Let’s not disturb Zhiyi’s rest here.”
With that, Qu Lingxuan strode confidently toward the break room, not doubting for a second that Ruan Yang would follow.
“Assistant Ruan.” Jiang Jiang’s face was full of worry as she tugged on Ruan Yang’s sleeve. “Thank you for standing up for me. Are you going to be okay? Should I go in and get Sister Zhiyi?”
Ruan Yang shook her head. “Don’t bother Zhiyi. She’s probably asleep by now. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”
Jiang Jiang still seemed uneasy, but Ruan Yang had already taken a step forward, following Qu Lingxuan.
Watching the two of them walk into the break room together, Jiang Jiang stood rooted to the spot, anxious and helpless.
Inside the break room, Qu Lingxuan stood by the window and glanced at Ruan Yang as she entered. She got straight to the point: “Leave this production crew. I can offer you better opportunities.”
As she spoke, Qu Lingxuan began releasing her pheromones.
“What do you mean?” Ruan Yang’s expression remained unchanged.
“Director Wu isn’t the only good director in the industry,” Qu Lingxuan continued. “As long as you’re willing to leave this crew, I can help you study under any director you choose.”
Ruan Yang narrowed her eyes. “You want me to leave here?”
For some reason, Ruan Yang’s indifferent attitude suddenly infuriated Qu Lingxuan, who frowned in irritation.
“Ruan Yang, you should know that if you want to keep working in this industry, it’s better not to offend me. You can’t bear the consequences of crossing me.”
Something in those words seemed to strike a chord with Ruan Yang, and she suddenly revealed a faint smile.
“Consequences? Are you referring to this half-hearted pheromone suppression of yours?”
Half-hearted?
Qu Lingxuan’s expression shifted. Could it be that her pheromones had no effect on Ruan Yang?
How was that possible?!
With no one else around, Ruan Yang seemed to shed some kind of disguise, her entire aura chilling to the bone.
“In that case, it seems the consequences of offending you aren’t entirely unbearable.”
The implication was clear she had no intention of leaving this production.
Such blatant defiance made Qu Lingxuan’s eyes widen in disbelief.
Having held a high position for years, she had long grown accustomed to being fawned over. It had been ages since anyone dared speak to her like this.
Ruan Yang hadn’t released her pheromones, but judging by her calm reaction, it was highly likely that Ruan Yang’s pheromone level surpassed her own.
For years, Qu Lingxuan had prided herself on one of her greatest assets her A-level pheromones.
Then what about Ruan Yang?
Qu Lingxuan’s face suddenly paled.
She quickly masked her inner turmoil, shifting her gaze out the window as she declared with certainty, “I can tell you like Xu Zhiyi. But give up Zhiyi would never like someone like you.”
Ruan Yang also looked out the window, where a few birds occasionally flew by dozens of meters in the air.
She raised a hand to touch her cheek, the soft sensation seemingly still lingering there.
The memory of Xu Zhiyi’s coquettish voice saying “Be good” to her not long ago flooded Ruan Yang’s mind.
Her fingers brushed against her wrist as she sighed softly, “That’s not necessarily true.”
“I’ve always been curious,” Qu Lingxuan turned back, puzzled, “where does your confidence come from? Zhiyi hasn’t even agreed to be with me yet, what makes you think she’d accept a mere assistant like you?”
After hearing this, Ruan Yang’s gaze toward Qu Lingxuan suddenly held a hint of pity.
“Do you really understand Xu Zhiyi?”
Qu Lingxuan found the question utterly absurd. “How could I not understand Zhiyi.”
“I met Xu Zhiyi before you did,” Ruan Yang interrupted. “I’ve liked her since the first moment I saw her, no less than you.”
Qu Lingxuan froze.
“But do you know why, despite liking her all these years, I’ve done nothing but quietly watch her go through girlfriend after girlfriend?”
“Why?” Qu Lingxuan’s eyes widened, as if she hadn’t expected Ruan Yang and Xu Zhiyi to have known each other for so long.
Even more surprising was that someone could harbor feelings for Xu Zhiyi yet endure in silence for years.
“Because I never considered any of them as rivals.” Ruan Yang’s voice suddenly grew distant, her tone so calm it was as if she were recounting someone else’s story.
“Haven’t you noticed? Xu Zhiyi doesn’t understand what love is. Being with her is easy, but reaching her heart, no one can do it.”
Ruan Yang took two steps forward, her voice lingering right beside Qu Lingxuan’s ear: “Including you.
“Senior, let me offer you some advice don’t assume you can teach Xu Zhiyi how to love someone. You won’t succeed.”
“And what about you?” Qu Lingxuan was somewhat displeased with Ruan Yang’s dismissive attitude. “You say you don’t see us as rivals, but what about you? Can you, do it?”
“I can’t,” Ruan Yang’s gaze softened, her tone sincere. “I can’t. That’s why I’ve always been using another method.”
Qu Lingxuan hadn’t actually wanted to ask it felt like doing so would make her seem ridiculous. But after hesitating for just a few seconds, she couldn’t resist asking, “What method?”
Seamlessly blending into Xu Zhiyi’s life, then quietly withdrawing without a trace.
Ruan Yang recalled Xu Zhiyi’s reactions over the past two days.
She chuckled softly, “The method doesn’t matter, what works, works.”
But after her laughter faded, her tone turned profoundly serious.
When she lifted her gaze to the window again, her eyes were filled with devotion and tranquility.
“You know, I’ve waited for this day to come for a very, very long time.”
She didn’t want to merely accompany Xu Zhiyi for a brief stretch of the journey.
From years ago, from the very first moment she laid eyes on Xu Zhiyi, she had known with absolute clarity that there was a goal she had to accomplish.
One day.
One day, that moon everyone looked up to in admiration would inevitably and only rest in her hands.
Here we go, here we go!
