Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 32.1
The next day, Qu Lingxuan was set to leave the crew after filming her final scene with Xu Zhiyi.
The director spent a long time bidding farewell to Qu Lingxuan. Once the two finally finished their conversation, Qu Lingxuan walked over to Xu Zhiyi.
“Zhiyi, I’m leaving now. You must take good care of yourself from now on,” Qu Lingxuan said softly, her gaze tracing every contour of Xu Zhiyi’s brows and eyes as if committing them to memory. “If you keep fainting so easily, I’ll be very worried.”
Xu Zhiyi offered a faint, distant smile. “I will. You should get in the car now.”
Qu Lingxuan had already settled into the vehicle when, just as it was about to depart, she stopped the driver and turned to look at Xu Zhiyi outside.
“Zhiyi,” she began after a moment’s thought, deciding to speak her mind, “about what I mentioned to you last time, I still hope for a positive answer from you. Please think it over carefully.”
With that, she glanced sideways at Ruan Yang, who was also looking in their direction.
Their eyes met mid-air, sparking an invisible tension that crackled between them.
Qu Lingxuan was the first to look away. Without waiting for Xu Zhiyi’s response, she instructed the driver to start the car and drove off.
Xu Zhiyi, of course, noticed that glance. She followed the direction Qu Lingxuan had looked and couldn’t help feeling puzzled.
She walked over to Ruan Yang with Jiangjiang and asked, “What happened between you and Qu Lingxuan?”
If she hadn’t misread it, Qu Lingxuan’s gaze at Ruan Yang held not only displeasure but also wariness and caution.
If it were just about Ruan Yang not buying water for Qu Lingxuan yesterday, such an expression wouldn’t make sense.
Jiangjiang, standing behind Xu Zhiyi, seemed about to speak, but Ruan Yang noticed and gave an almost imperceptible shake of her head.
Jiangjiang closed her mouth again.
“Nothing,” Ruan Yang said softly.
“Really?” Xu Zhiyi sounded skeptical.
Had something happened between them after they left together yesterday when she said she wanted to sleep?
But since Ruan Yang wasn’t willing to talk, Xu Zhiyi couldn’t force it.
Still, Ruan Yang’s attitude toward her today was much better than the past few days, which eased Xu Zhiyi’s mind. Just as she turned to say something more to Ruan Yang, a hand appeared in front of her, blocking her path.
“Could I have a moment of your time, Zhiyi?” Zheng Tang bit her lip, glanced nervously at Ruan Yang, and shivered slightly before cautiously asking Xu Zhiyi, “I’d like to talk to you.”
Xu Zhiyi wasn’t sure why Zheng Tang had sought her out, but such an expression on Zheng Tang’s face was rare.
“About what?” Xu Zhiyi asked sternly. “If you’re here to ask me to help you, then I don’t think there’s any need. It’ll just waste both our time.”
“No, that’s not it,” Zheng Tang said urgently, stepping closer with a sincere tone. “I just wanted to apologize. I was wrong about everything before. I shouldn’t have acted that way. I’m here to ask for your forgiveness.”
Ever since Ruan Yang had asked her if she remembered where Xu Zhiyi lived, Zheng Tang had looked into the area. The information she gathered made it clear that the people living there were not to be trifled with.
The moment Zheng Tang learned about Xu Zhiyi’s family background, she was genuinely filled with regret and also genuine relief.
She regretted all the things she had done to Xu Zhiyi, yet felt relieved that she hadn’t actually ruined Xu Zhiyi’s acting career.
Afraid of angering Xu Zhiyi further, she had already given up on trying to use Xu Zhiyi to clear her own name.
This time, she truly came to apologize.
From Zheng Tang’s tone, Xu Zhiyi gradually sensed that this person really only wanted her forgiveness.
Though she didn’t know what had happened to Zheng Tang to bring about such a drastic change, it had nothing to do with her.
She stared at Zheng Tang for a few seconds before speaking, “I won’t forgive you. After all, it’s a fact that you stole my award.”
Zheng Tang’s face turned pale, and just as she was about to say something more, Xu Zhiyi continued, “But I can’t be bothered to hold it against you either.”
Having been at Xunguang for so long, she naturally knew that some of the company’s decisions were truly thoughtless and illogical.
“Focus on acting properly from now on,” Xu Zhiyi said. “Don’t just think about taking shortcuts or rising to the top overnight.”
Zheng Tang hung her head, seemingly disheartened. Still, she smiled and nodded, “Thank you, Zhiyi.”
Xu Zhiyi said nothing more, and Zheng Tang tactfully took her leave.
After she was gone, Jiangjiang couldn’t help feeling indignant on Xu Zhiyi’s behalf. “Sister Zhiyi, how could you just let Zheng Tang off like that? When she had her ex-girlfriend post those lies about you, she wasn’t nearly as merciful!”
Jiangjiang, being an avid internet user, was well aware of how harshly the online community had criticized Xu Zhiyi back then.
Xu Zhiyi looked at Jiangjiang’s angry face and chuckled softly, “I didn’t let her off.”
She knew exactly how difficult Zheng Tang’s current situation was. Zheng Tang’s reputation was beyond repair, the influential figures backing her were gradually losing interest, and Xunguang seemed to be on the verge of abandoning her.
“You’ve vented your anger, and she even has to thank you for letting her go,” Xu Zhiyi’s smile seemed somewhat detached for some reason. “Isn’t that a win-win situation?”
Jiangjiang slowly caught on, her eyes widening as she looked at Xu Zhiyi with admiration. “Sister Zhiyi, you’re amazing.”
Amazing?
Xu Zhiyi stole a glance at Ruan Yang out of the corner of her eye. No, she wasn’t amazing.
Ruan Yang naturally noticed Xu Zhiyi’s gaze and averted her eyes. “The director is waiting for me. I should get going.”
“Wait!” Xu Zhiyi caught up to Ruan Yang, walking beside her while keeping her eyes fixed on Ruan Yang’s face. “Why did you come to the hospital to see me yesterday?”
Ruan Yang kept her gaze forward, pursing her lips. “I heard from someone.”
Xu Zhiyi tilted her head slightly. “Weren’t you afraid it might be like last time, that I was tricking you?”
Ruan Yang suddenly stopped walking.
Xu Zhiyi stopped as well.
The film set was always noisy and chaotic, with very few moments of quiet. Just like now, the sounds of people and equipment mingled together, creating a sense of disorder.
Yet amid all the clamor, Ruan Yang’s voice remained exceptionally calm.
Her tone was resolute. “No matter how many times you trick me, I’ll always come.”
She would never take Xu Zhiyi’s health lightly.
Those words made Xu Zhiyi’s heart beat faster once again.
Unexpectedly met with such a response, she began recalling the word “good girl” she had said to Ruan Yang yesterday, and for some reason, her cheeks felt warm.
When she looked up to say something more to Ruan Yang, Xu Zhiyi was surprised to find that the person in front of her had already disappeared.
“Sister Zhiyi, Assistant Ruan has already gone to find the director,” Jiang Jiang whispered from behind.
Xu Zhiyi snapped back to reality, realizing she had been lost in thought.
Although Ruan Yang said she wasn’t angry and her attitude toward Xu Zhiyi had softened considerably, it still wasn’t the same as before.
She looked up and saw the figure standing beside the director in the distance.
What could she do?
She was the one who had upset Ruan Yang, so she had to be the one to make things right.
After that, the crew noticed that the relationship between the two leads was no longer as tense as before.
Zheng Tang would initiate conversations with Xu Zhiyi, and Xu Zhiyi would occasionally respond.
Filming also became less stifling. Xu Zhiyi would sometimes generously offer Zheng Tang a few pointers, which, to some extent, sped up the filming process, as they no longer had to reshoot scenes repeatedly due to Zheng Tang’s mistakes.
At the same time, all the crew members noticed that Xu Zhiyi and the director seemed to be getting along even better than before.
Now, as soon as filming wrapped up, Xu Zhiyi would rush to the director’s side, chatting with her while reviewing the scenes they had just shot.
Even the director noticed something was off.
After another scene wrapped, the director looked at Xu Zhiyi, whose attention was clearly wandering, and laughed. “Zhiyi, I’ve never seen you so diligent before! You’ve been asking all sorts of questions lately, but they’re all so basic. If your acting weren’t as good as ever, I’d seriously think you’d been body-snatched.”
Xu Zhiyi, who had been glancing to the side, smiled along. “I’m just trying to learn from you and brush up on the basics…”
She pointed to the small refrigerator in the corner, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Ruan Yang. “Could you get me a bottle of cold water, Assistant Ruan?”
Ruan Yang had been taking notes with her head down. Without a word, she silently set aside her notebook and pen.
Seeing that Xu Zhiyi always had Ruan Yang do something for her whenever she came over, the director joked, “Are you just here to boss Ruan Yang around? Taking advantage of her hardworking nature, what did she ever do to you?”
“I just want to chat with you more, Director,” Xu Zhiyi replied, though her gaze had already drifted back to Ruan Yang.
Over the past few days, every time Xu Zhiyi came to the director’s side, she would ask Ruan Yang to fetch something sometimes a snack, sometimes a drink.
Most often, it was a drink. Xu Zhiyi would claim she couldn’t open it and ask Ruan Yang to unscrew the cap for her.
Ruan Yang never complained. Whatever Xu Zhiyi asked, she would do.
Today was no different.
Xu Zhiyi watched as Ruan Yang walked toward the small refrigerator in the corner.
But instead of opening the refrigerator door to get a cold water bottle as Xu Zhiyi had requested, Ruan Yang picked up a bottle from the nearby table and handed it to Xu Zhiyi.
Seeing Xu Zhiyi hesitate to take it, Ruan Yang sighed softly and, under Xu Zhiyi’s eager gaze, unscrewed the cap for her.
Only then did she hand it over again. “You shouldn’t drink too much cold water.”
Xu Zhiyi was feeling extremely hot and only wanted something ice-cold to drink. But since Ruan Yang had already said so, she had to suppress her own thoughts and reached out to take the water bottle.
“Alright.”
She took it and reluctantly took a few sips.
The director had been watching from the side, and when he saw this scene, he was somewhat stunned.
Wasn’t Xu Zhiyi the one bossing Xiao Ruan around? Why did it now seem like Xu Zhiyi was the one acting like a wronged little wife?
The moment this thought crossed his mind, the director himself was shocked.
How could he have such an idea?
After finishing the water, Xu Zhiyi looked up at Ruan Yang, her big eyes blinking, with a look that seemed to be seeking praise.
But Ruan Yang’s gaze remained fixed on the display screen. Noticing that Xu Zhiyi had finished drinking, she simply and naturally took the bottle from her hand and screwed the cap back on.
After doing this, Ruan Yang returned to her previous spot, picked up her pen and paper, and continued taking notes on what the director had just taught her.
It seemed as if Xu Zhiyi’s demands had no effect on her whatsoever.
Without even realizing it herself, Xu Zhiyi lowered her eyes, a hint of disappointment in her expression.
