Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 29.2
She turned back, seemingly in thought. “Is that what you think?”
“Isn’t it? Ruan Yang, I thought you were some pure and noble young lady, but in the end, you’re just Xu Zhiyi’s plaything!”
The chill on Zheng Tang’s spine hadn’t yet faded. Just as she thought Ruan Yang would use her pheromones to intimidate her again, Ruan Yang suddenly let out a laugh.
Though she was laughing, there was no warmth in it.
She looked over, and Zheng Tang wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she even detected a hint of anticipation in Ruan Yang’s eyes.
Zheng Tang didn’t understand that, in Ruan Yang’s view, even the kind of relationship Zheng Tang described was far better than the one they currently had.
“Then,” The coldness on Ruan Yang’s face softened slightly. “I’ll take that as your blessing.”
“…” Zheng Tang vaguely wondered if she had misheard.
Seeing Ruan Yang about to leave again, she grew anxious. “Ruan Yang! Aren’t you afraid I’ll expose your relationship with Xu Zhiyi?! When that happens, both you and Xu Zhiyi will be torn apart online!”
“Go ahead.” Ruan Yang’s eyes finally showed a flicker of emotion, no longer resembling a talking statue.
Her serious tone didn’t seem like a joke.
This left Zheng Tang utterly confused.
She gritted her teeth in frustration. “Don’t think I won’t do it!”
Ruan Yang shook her head slightly, blinking. “I didn’t say that. I mean it, go ahead. Maybe I’ll even thank you.”
Why isn’t she reacting like a normal person?
Zheng Tang suddenly gained a whole new understanding of Ruan Yang’s audacity.
The feeling of having leverage but being unable to use it effectively made Zheng Tang fume with rage.
She refused to believe Ruan Yang wasn’t the least bit afraid she simply couldn’t accept it!
Just as she had taken out her phone, Ruan Yang across from her spoke again.
“Do you still remember Zhiyi’s home address?”
Zheng Tang’s hand paused mid-motion.
Seeing the confusion in Zheng Tang’s eyes, Ruan Yang suddenly felt speechless.
How could someone like Zhiyi fall for this kind of person?
She continued, “You can go ask around. Being able to own such a large villa in that area isn’t something ordinary wealth or power can achieve.”
After saying this, Ruan Yang turned and left without looking back.
As long as Zheng Tang wasn’t utterly foolish, once she learned where Xu Zhiyi lived, she should understand what could be said openly and what must be kept to herself.
Ruan Yang returned to the filming set.
Xu Zhiyi’s scenes weren’t scheduled until the afternoon. The moment she appeared, Ruan Yang’s gaze fixed on her.
A suppressant patch was applied to the back of Xu Zhiyi’s neck, its color so close to her skin tone that it was nearly invisible unless examined closely.
“How strange,” the director muttered behind the camera, puzzled. “Zhiyi looked quite unwell when we wrapped up filming yesterday, but after just one night, her condition seems even better than before.”
A loud “thud” interrupted him, the sound of something hitting the ground.
The director turned and saw that Ruan Yang’s phone had somehow fallen to the floor.
Watching Ruan Yang hurriedly pick it up with inexplicable fluster, he couldn’t help but ask, “Are you alright, Xiao Ruan?”
Ruan Yang’s eyes darted away. “N-no, I’m fine.”
The director didn’t press further. With his command, the next scene began filming.
The afternoon shoot concluded without a single exchange between Ruan Yang and Xu Zhiyi.
This would normally be commonplace, but today, perhaps because of the mark, Ruan Yang felt a stronger attachment to Xu Zhiyi than usual.
The scent of roses lingered at the tip of her nose.
Yet every time she glanced toward Xu Zhiyi, the latter was always engrossed in her script.
It was impossible not to feel disappointed.
It seemed she was the only one bound by that mark.
During dinner, Ruan Qingyu called again, urging Ruan Yang to return home for the meal and apologize to Xu Rongjiang.
“You stood up Uncle Xu, making him lose face in front of all the guests, and you haven’t offered any apology all day. What are you trying to do, Ruan Yang?”
Ruan Qingyu’s voice sounded weary. “I’m begging you, Ruan Yang. Come back and apologize to Uncle Xu. No matter what, he has treated our mother and daughter well these past few years. Ruan Yang, one shouldn’t be so ungrateful.”
Ruan Yang keenly noticed that her mother now referred to him as “Uncle Xu.”
She replied, “Alright, I’ll come back now.”
There was still some time before the evening shoot began enough to go home and return.
Ruan Yang took a taxi back. However, as soon as she stepped through the door, she sensed a tense atmosphere from the solemn expressions of the servants.
Walking inside, she was surprised to find that, aside from Xu Rongjiang whose face was as dark as a burnt pot and her mother, there was another person seated at the dining table.
“Zhiyi-jie?” Ruan Yang spoke stiffly. “Why are you here?”
Shouldn’t Xu Zhiyi be on set?
At the dining table, only Xu Zhiyi was moving her chopsticks. As she picked out the chili peppers from the dish in front of her, she let out a light laugh. “What, am I not allowed to return to my mother’s home?”
After picking for a while, Xu Zhiyi seemed to grow tired. She set down her chopsticks and leaned lazily against the back of her chair, a faint smile still lingering at the corners of her lips. “I rushed back just in time to celebrate your new daughter’s birthday, Father. What a pity, it seems I got the date wrong. It’s not today, is it?”
“But you can’t blame me for that, can you?” She glanced toward Xu Rongjiang, seated at the head of the table. “After all, no one, no one bothered to inform me.”
Ruan Qingyu, sitting across from Xu Zhiyi, stiffened.
“Xu Zhiyi!” Xu Rongjiang slammed the table abruptly. “What kind of tone is that to use with me?! Instead of focusing on your acting career, you deliberately come back to cause trouble, is that it?”
“Did I say something wrong?” Xu Zhiyi remained unruffled. “It seems Father didn’t just forget he genuinely had no intention of telling me.”
“Don’t speak to your father like that, Zhiyi,” Ruan Qingyu interjected, her voice strained. “Your father and I truly forgot. You know how busy he usually is, it’s not his fault.”
“So it’s your fault, then?” Xu Zhiyi cut her off.
Ruan Qingyu was caught off guard by the question and found herself unable to continue.
Some words simply weren’t meant to be spoken aloud.
Observing the two fall silent, Xu Zhiyi curved her lips again and cast a glance at Ruan Yang, who was standing nearby.
“Don’t worry, Father. I’m not here to blame you,” Xu Zhiyi said, feigning surprise. “I only just heard that for some reason, Yangyang didn’t attend the banquet you hosted yesterday.”
Her tone carried a hint of reproach. “What’s going on, Yangyang? How could you be so ungrateful? A birthday banquet I wouldn’t even dare dream of Father kindly arranged it for you, and you didn’t even bother to show up. You’ve made Father so angry. How thoughtless of you.”
Xu Zhiyi spoke as if she were a complete outsider, as though the person who had clung to her the night before was someone else entirely.
Ruan Yang knew that Xu Zhiyi was confident she wouldn’t reveal the real reason she had missed the banquet.
“Xu Zhiyi!” Xu Rongjiang couldn’t help but stand up. “Who’s the one being thoughtless here? If you were truly considerate, you wouldn’t have come back just to provoke me!”
Ruan Qingyu was displeased to hear Xu Zhiyi targeting Ruan Yang but found it difficult to retort.
After all, she was in the wrong.
“What does it matter if I’m thoughtless?” Xu Zhiyi blinked innocently, pointing a finger toward Ruan Yang. “Father already has a new daughter, doesn’t he? Instead of wasting time scolding me, why not put some effort into teaching Yangyang a lesson? How dare she skip your banquet that’s just too much.”
Ruan Yang couldn’t help but compare the way Xu Zhiyi said “Yangyang” now to how she had said it the night before.
Today, her tone was higher, and the syllables were drawn out longer.
And she was saying it with a smile.
It absurdly gave Ruan Yang the illusion that perhaps Xu Zhiyi was genuinely happy when she called her name.
But the truth was, every utterance of “Yangyang” was Xu Zhiyi deliberately tormenting her.
Every time Xu Rongjiang saw Xu Zhiyi like this, he was reminded of her mother. Xu Zhiyi’s demeanor was exactly the same as her mother’s.
It was truly infuriating just to look at.
This surge of anger even overshadowed the frustration he had felt last night when Ruan Yang was absent from the banquet, forcing him to explain to the guests all evening that she couldn’t make it because she had suddenly fallen ill and gone to the hospital.
His knuckles cracked as he clenched his fists, glaring at Xu Zhiyi. “I think the most outrageous one here is you! Yangyang is far more obedient than you. She had something come up last night and couldn’t make it, and she already explained the reason to me. How could you compare? All you ever do is cause trouble for me!”
“She already explained the reason to you?” Xu Zhiyi didn’t know which word had struck her as funny, but she burst into laughter, her eyes curving into crescents as she nodded repeatedly. “So Yangyang already told you, huh.”
