Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 29.1
Zheng Tang smiled at Ruan Yang, then turned to the director. “Director, if you’re not too busy right now, may I borrow Assistant Xiao Ruan for a moment?”
Wu Jun seemed surprised that Zheng Tang had come looking for Ruan Yang. His gaze shifted between the two of them a few times before he asked, “What do you need Xiao Ruan for?”
“There are some acting questions I don’t quite understand and wanted to ask. But since you’re busy, Director, I thought I’d ask Assistant Xiao Ruan instead. After all, she’s been by your side for so long, I’m sure I can learn a lot from her too.”
Her words were quite tactful, and Wu Jun nodded in satisfaction. “Go ahead then. Ask properly Xiao Ruan is quite talented. If you make progress, it’ll help you immerse yourself better in the next shoot.”
Zheng Tang maintained a smile on her face, completely devoid of the arrogance and dissatisfaction she had shown a few days earlier.
Ruan Yang silently observed her for a moment before following Zheng Tang toward a less crowded area.
Zheng Tang seemed intent on heading to an even more secluded spot, but Ruan Yang stopped her. “We’re just discussing questions is it really necessary to go somewhere so isolated?”
They were already in a place where almost no one from the crew would come. Zheng Tang finally halted.
The smile on her face had vanished, replaced by an expression that resembled pleading and distress.
“Yangyang,” Zheng Tang suddenly called her by this nickname, “Yangyang, please help me, won’t you?”
Ruan Yang frowned deeply at the use of the nickname and took a step back. “Don’t call me that.”
“I’m serious, Yangyang,” Zheng Tang continued as if she hadn’t heard, “You’re the only one who can help me now.”
“Call me Ruan Yang,” Ruan Yang repeated firmly.
“Yangyang, you!” Zheng Tang didn’t understand why Ruan Yang was making such a big deal out of something so trivial. She was utterly frustrated, but Ruan Yang seemed determined not to listen unless she complied. Reluctantly, Zheng Tang corrected herself, “Ruan Yang, you’re the only one who can help me now.”
Ruan Yang’s frown eased slightly, though her tone remained cold. “What is it?”
“Please help me, Ruan Yang. Isn’t Zhiyi your sister? Can you talk to her for me and ask her to forgive me?”
Zheng Tang hadn’t been having an easy time lately.
Online criticism of her was rampant. Although the issue with her ex-girlfriend had been temporarily suppressed, everyone was questioning the legitimacy of her award, and the backlash was growing increasingly harsh.
On top of that, she had learned that Qu Lingxuan would be making a guest appearance in the drama.
The reason for her panic was that the role she was currently playing had originally been intended for Qu Lingxuan.
If Qu Lingxuan hadn’t been tied up with a regular variety show that conflicted with the drama’s schedule, such a great opportunity would never have fallen into her hands.
Moreover, due to her severely tarnished reputation, which had almost reached an irreparable state, her agency seemed to be subtly hinting at dropping her.
Even the influential backer supporting her was growing tired of her. In this industry, there were plenty of young and attractive people she was far from irreplaceable to anyone.
Realizing this, Zheng Tang suddenly woke up to the fact that if she continued down this path, she would lose everything she had.
After some thought, she concluded that the root of solving all her problems lay with Xu Zhiyi.
Only if Xu Zhiyi forgave her could she turn her current situation around.
But Xu Zhiyi currently had no desire to see her at all. Even during rehearsals, aside from necessary lines, she refused to exchange a single extra word with her.
Just as Zheng Tang was at her wit’s end, she suddenly caught sight of Ruan Yang.
“Ruan Yang,” Zheng Tang pleaded, as if grasping at her last lifeline, her tone growing even more pitiful. “You have to help me. I know I was wrong, and I didn’t mean to steal her award. If Zhiyi is willing to forgive me, I can even give the trophy to her. Ruan Yang, please help me. For the sake of me never revealing your relationship with Zhiyi, couldn’t you put in a good word for me with your sister?”
At these words, Ruan Yang lifted her head and glanced at Zheng Tang.
“How disgusting.” The words slipped out of Ruan Yang’s mouth abruptly.
Zheng Tang seemed taken aback that such words would come from Ruan Yang. Her eyes widened in shock.
It took her a moment to regain her composure, and she stammered, “Wh-what’s wrong?”
“What do you mean, ‘give it to her’?” Ruan Yang’s gaze was icy to the extreme. “That award belonged to Zhiyi from the start. What gives you the right to say you’d ‘give it to her’?”
Ruan Yang didn’t believe a single word of Zheng Tang’s claim that she hadn’t intentionally stolen Xu Zhiyi’s award.
Even if, for argument’s sake, Zheng Tang truly hadn’t known, the fact remained that she had taken Xu Zhiyi’s award and benefited from it.
To reap the rewards and then play innocent, acting as if none of it had anything to do with her since when did the world offer such an easy way out?
Zheng Tang seemed stunned by Ruan Yang’s words. She opened her mouth to explain, but Ruan Yang cut her off.
“I’m grateful you never revealed my relationship with Zhiyi, but I don’t believe it was out of any genuine kindness on your part.” Ruan Yang’s voice was low as she stepped closer to Zheng Tang, the atmosphere around them seeming to grow heavier with each step.
The oppressive aura of a top-tier Alpha was on full display.
By the time Zheng Tang realized it, cold sweat had already broken out across her forehead.
She was backed into a corner by Ruan Yang.
The rich scent of pinewood enveloped them both, and Zheng Tang felt as though she could barely breathe.
“Don’t use that to blackmail me. Zhiyi already told you that day at home, didn’t she?” Ruan Yang’s fingertip lightly traced the side of Zheng Tang’s neck. The cold touch sent a shiver down her spine, chilling her to the core.
“I’m not her sister.”
There was no one in the world who hated being called Xu Zhiyi’s sister more than she did.
Ruan Yang’s tone was soft, her expression as impassive as ever, yet in the sweltering heat of summer, Zheng Tang suddenly felt as if she were trapped in an ice cellar.
Even her knees trembled.
Her pheromone level was too low; she had almost no ability to resist in front of Ruan Yang.
Zheng Tang parted her lips, wanting to say something, but amidst the overwhelming pinewood scent, she caught a faint trace of another fragrance.
It was familiar, she was sure she had smelled it somewhere before but in that moment, Zheng Tang couldn’t quite recall.
“If you’re not Zhiyi’s sister, then who are you? And why are you living in her house?” Zheng Tang’s voice grew softer under the intense pressure.
At the same time, she noticed something strange about Ruan Yang’s attitude toward Xu Zhiyi.
The possessiveness in her eyes was so intense it felt almost tangible.
Ruan Yang withdrew her hand, wiping her fingertips with a tissue as if disgusted.
“It’s none of your business.” Her tone was flat as she gradually withdrew the pressure of her pheromones. “All you need to know is—”
“Don’t do things you shouldn’t do. But since you’ve already done it and regret it, you can only blame your own foolishness from back then. Don’t bother Zhiyi again in the future.”
With that, Ruan Yang turned and walked back the way she came.
“Since it seems you have no more questions, I’ll take my leave now.”
But Zheng Tang was unwilling to let it go.
She had been in the industry long enough to have some seniority, yet she had just been intimidated by a rookie assistant.
This made her feel humiliated.
At the same time, she finally remembered. That pinewood scent, she had smelled it on Xu Zhiyi before!
It was the last time she and Xu Zhiyi were “coincidentally” photographed by paparazzi while out on a supposed date. That day, Xu Zhiyi suddenly had ambiguous marks on her neck.
When the paparazzi exposed the photos, everyone online assumed it was Zheng Tang who had done it, but only Zheng Tang knew that those marks had nothing to do with her!
Xu Zhiyi never let her get close off-camera.
That day, Xu Zhiyi had carried that faint pinewood scent.
So it was Ruan Yang all along!
Zheng Tang suddenly felt as though she had grasped some leverage over Ruan Yang and Xu Zhiyi.
Furious, she shouted at Ruan Yang’s retreating back, “You don’t dare say what your relationship with Xu Zhiyi is, yet you live in her house. You’re still a student, but you managed to get into this production team to study under Director Wu. Isn’t it obvious what kind of unspeakable relationship you have with Xu Zhiyi?! You’re nothing but a kept woman, acting all high and mighty with me!”
Ruan Yang stopped in her tracks.
