Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 28
Early the next morning, Xu Zhiyi woke from her sleep.
Her head was still a bit dizzy as she sat up in bed, a dense, throbbing pain spreading across the back of her neck.
The pain sharpened her senses, and she began to recall everything that had happened the night before.
Originally, she had only intended to use Jiang Jiang’s work account to summon Ruan Yang, then lock her in the room to prevent her from attending the banquet.
Although Ruan Yang usually seemed aloof and indifferent, Xu Zhiyi had noticed that she seemed to care about her deeply.
As long as Xu Zhiyi claimed she had fainted and no one was there to help, Ruan Yang would definitely come.
And indeed, her gamble had paid off.
But what she hadn’t anticipated was that soaking in cold water for too long had unexpectedly triggered her sensitive period to arrive early.
Even more unexpectedly, Xu Zhiyi had no medication prepared in her room, and all the nearby pharmacies were closed. And just at that moment, Ruan Yang arrived.
Jiang Jiang was frantic, wanting to send Ruan Yang away. But as soon as she opened the door, Xu Zhiyi stopped her.
“Let her in,” Xu Zhiyi said, her breathing already becoming unsteady, her cheeks flushed like intoxicating clouds at sunset.
“Zhiyi-jie!” Jiang Jiang knew exactly what it meant to let Assistant Ruan in.
If Xu Zhiyi’s manager, Sister Liang, found out, Jiang Jiang felt she might as well apologize with her life.
Her beloved Zhiyi-jie had navigated this chaotic industry for years. Though rumors of her romantic interests came and went, Jiang Jiang knew the truth Zhiyi-jie had always kept herself pure, never casually getting involved with others out of loneliness like some in the industry.
For Zhiyi-jie, there was only work.
Jiang Jiang herself was a devoted career fan of Xu Zhiyi.
But at the same time, she had noticed that her Zhiyi-jie always seemed to treat Assistant Ruan a little differently.
The key point was, Zhiyi-jie herself didn’t seem to realize it.
“Let her in,” Xu Zhiyi repeated, her tone growing more insistent. “Jiang Jiang, I don’t have any suppressants.”
Without suppressants, the long night would be excruciating for an Omega in her sensitive period.
It could even affect her work for the next several days.
Jiang Jiang fell silent. As a Beta, she couldn’t detect the scent of pheromones, but she could still tell from Xu Zhiyi’s reactions just how much she was suffering.
After only a brief internal struggle, Jiang Jiang’s concern for Xu Zhiyi’s well-being won out.
She sighed. “Then I’ll let Assistant Ruan in.”
Jiang Jiang stepped out, and soon, Ruan Yang entered.
By then, Xu Zhiyi’s senses had dulled, and all she could detect from Ruan Yang was a faint scent of pinewood.
Almost as soon as she caught that fragrance, the fire inside Xu Zhiyi seemed to be stoked, burning even more fiercely.
Ruan Yang stood at the doorway and seemed to say something.
What was it she said?
Xu Zhiyi frowned. At the time, she thought she had heard it clearly, but now, for some reason, she couldn’t recall it.
She delved deeper into her memories but came up empty after a while.
Giving up quickly, Xu Zhiyi didn’t dwell on it.
No matter what, her goal for the previous night had been achieved Ruan Yang hadn’t attended the banquet.
Xu Zhiyi made a phone call to Aunt Chen, who informed her that Xu Rongjiang had returned last night in a furious rage, argued with Ruan Qingyu, and then stormed out of the house.
It seemed Ruan Yang standing him up had indeed left some impact on Xu Rongjiang.
As for how Xu Rongjiang would explain things to the guests who had attended that wasn’t her concern.
Xu Zhiyi’s mood suddenly lifted considerably. She closed her eyes, breathing in the mingled scent of roses and pinewood in the air.
When she opened her eyes again, the water glass from yesterday came into view once more.
She narrowed her eyes, recalling the thoughts she’d had the night before.
How could she not be curious?
Someone like Ruan Yang, what did it look like when she lowered her head for someone else?
Xu Zhiyi had no scenes to film that morning. Ruan Yang stayed by the director’s side, shooting a few scenes with supporting characters.
During a break, the director called her over. “Xiao Ruan, did you manage to have a good chat with Zhiyi yesterday?”
A warmth spread in Ruan Yang’s chest Xu Zhiyi’s condition last night had made any proper conversation impossible.
She shook her head. “No, Sister Zhiyi wasn’t feeling well last night. I went back to my own room afterward.”
“Not feeling well?” the director asked again. “Is Zhiyi alright?”
“She’s fine,” Ruan Yang replied softly.
Reassured, the director moved on to the next scene.
Ruan Yang picked up a bottle of cold water and drank half of it in one go, barely managing to calm her racing heart.
Last night, worried about Xu Zhiyi’s state, Ruan Yang hadn’t dwelled on it.
But now, with a clearer mind, as she revisited the events of the previous evening, she began to sense something amiss.
She started questioning whether everything that happened was mere coincidence or deliberately orchestrated.
When she checked the WeChat account again this morning, the owner had already deleted her. Ruan Yang tracked down the two girls from yesterday and asked them about it, but both denied the account was theirs.
Just as Ruan Yang was about to leave, one of them called her back, saying the profile picture looked familiar.
Ruan Yang stopped. The girl thought for a long while, scrolling through her phone, until her eyes lit up and she looked at Ruan Yang.
“Found it! I knew I’d seen that profile picture before, it’s Sister Jiang Jiang’s!”
Jiang Jiang.
Xu Zhiyi’s assistant.
Ruan Yang stood frozen in place for several seconds.
She never expected it to be Jiang Jiang’s WeChat account.
Why would Jiang Jiang do this? Did Xu Zhiyi ask her to?
Ruan Yang’s thoughts instantly tangled into a mess.
But she quickly realized Xu Zhiyi simply hadn’t wanted her to attend last night’s banquet.
It was all likely intentional.
Ruan Yang thanked them and turned to leave, but the two girls stopped her again, their expressions hesitant.
“Assistant Ruan,” one of them finally spoke up, “we’re sorry. We couldn’t keep the promise you asked for yesterday. You told us not to mention you, but Sister Zhiyi is too good at getting information out of people. We, we…”
Ruan Yang didn’t need to hear the rest to understand.
Xu Zhiyi knew everything. She had personally set a trap Ruan Yang couldn’t refuse.
Then stood on the other side, eyes curved like crescent moons, watching without hesitation as Ruan Yang walked right into it.
Ruan Yang let out an almost imperceptible sigh. Just as she was about to set down the half-empty bottle of ice water, a figure suddenly approached and stopped right in front of her.
She looked up, it was Zheng Tang.
