Always Chasing My White Moonlight Omega - Chapter 11
This was practically an open mockery.
The gazes of everyone around fell upon Ruan Yang, yet the person in question remained expressionless, saying nothing.
As if none of this had anything to do with her.
After some time, Wu Jun finally seemed to finish reviewing the footage and handed the camera to the assistant director. He looked at Ruan Yang, lips parting slightly, but for a long moment, he said nothing.
He merely raised his hand and patted her shoulder. “Let’s go eat.”
To others, it seemed like a gesture of comfort from the director. But Ruan Yang alone detected something in Wu Jun’s gaze.
She lowered her eyelids and nodded lightly. “Mm.”
Her emotions were unreadable.
Su Xinzhi let out another derisive laugh, about to throw in a few more taunts when Wu Jun glanced at him, the earlier admiration in his eyes completely gone.
With a stern expression, he cut off Su Xinzhi before he could speak. “Alright, let’s go eat.”
With that, he led the assistant director away. From their retreating figures, it seemed they were discussing something, but no one knew what.
Su Xinzhi shot Ruan Yang another look before dragging Jing Ziqi away.
Ruan Yang paid no mind to the stares around her, much less Su Xinzhi’s petty schemes. In her eyes, someone like Su Xinzhi wasn’t worth her attention, nor the effort to teach him a lesson.
She rode with the B-unit director to the restaurant where the gathering was being held.
The restaurant was inside the film studio, not far just a ten-minute drive. The B-unit director was one of the assistant directors, and along the way, Ruan Yang casually asked about upcoming work. The assistant director, as if eager to vent, spilled everything.
He complained about how Zheng Tang had taken an extended leave, and if she didn’t return soon, the daily delays would become unsustainable. The money being wasted was staggering, yet the investors insisted on keeping her, dragging the entire production far behind schedule.
Mentioning Zheng Tang naturally led the assistant director to bring up the recent gossip about Xu Zhiyi and Zheng Tang.
“Honestly, I think there might really be something between Xu Zhiyi and Zheng Tang,” the assistant director said, not pausing for breath as he drove. “Last time, when Director Wu was busy, I handled a scene between them. It was supposed to be straightforward, but guess what? Xu Zhiyi had her makeup artist paint her nails red!”
“Red nail polish?” The other two in the car widened their eyes.
This wasn’t exactly a secret. Whether in the industry or not, anyone who followed entertainment news online knew about Xu Zhiyi’s peculiar habit.
If she was interested in someone, she would always wear red nail polish when meeting them.
Ruan Yang knew this too.
Hearing this now, her mind flashed back to that night Zheng Tang walking past her toward Xu Zhiyi’s room.
And the night she and Xu Zhiyi slept together, she vaguely remembered Xu Zhiyi had also been wearing red nail polish.
She had been planning to meet a lover that night.
The thought made Ruan Yang smile bitterly.
Her sudden differentiation had disrupted Xu Zhiyi’s plans.
The car’s abrupt stop interrupted Ruan Yang’s thoughts. The assistant director turned around. “We’re here. Let’s go in the director’s already waiting for us inside.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Ruan Yang got out of the car and walked toward the restaurant. The place had been reserved by Director Wu for the evening, so everyone in sight was a familiar face.
The assistant director asked a waiter to escort them to the private room where the director was waiting. Halfway there, Ruan Yang’s phone rang, it was her assistant calling.
Not wanting to take the call in front of so many people, Ruan Yang asked the waiter where the restroom was. After getting directions, she headed alone toward the end of the hallway.
Most of the guests were dining on the second floor, so the first-floor restroom was nearly empty. Ruan Yang found a quiet corner and was about to answer the call when she was abruptly interrupted by a familiar voice.
“Lingxuan-jie, long time no see.”
It was Xu Zhiyi’s voice.
Ruan Yang hung up the call almost instantly. Leaning against the wall, she realized the voices were coming from around the corner of the hallway.
Lingxuan-jie? As in the award-winning actress Qu Lingxuan?
“It has been over a year, hasn’t it?” Another voice replied, sounding slightly more mature than Xu Zhiyi’s, laced with a seductive ambiguity. “I heard you’re in a dispute with your current company over contract termination. How about it, need my help?”
The click-clack of high heels echoed against the polished floor.
Xu Zhiyi remained silent, so Qu Lingxuan continued, “Given the history between us, you can always ask me for anything.”
Without realizing it, Ruan Yang’s nails dug into her palm. She peeked around the corner and saw Qu Lingxuan’s fingertips grazing Xu Zhiyi’s lips, slowly caressing them.
Affection swirled in Qu Lingxuan’s eyes. After a long pause, she finally spoke again.
“Zhiyi, after all this time. I still can’t forget you.”
