After Turning Into a Kitten, I Was Adopted by My Father-Figure Childhood Friend - Chapter 34
“Meow meow!”
As the man approached, the heavy, dark trench coat he wore seemed to transform into a menacing shadow. Sensing danger, the little tabby cat instantly fled, disappearing into the distance with its tail between its legs.
The cat had left first!
Lu Jingchuan shifted his gaze, casting a cold glance in the direction the tabby had run. His handsome face was exceptionally aloof, and his thin lips were pressed into a straight line, betraying traces of displeasure.
“Youyou, why are you out here?” he questioned in a low voice. Song the Cat froze on the spot as Lu Jingchuan scooped him up by the scruff of the neck.
Belatedly feeling guilty, the little kitten licked the air with a paw. His tail hooked slightly, unable to resist wagging left and right. His four paws clung to the man’s arm like vines until he was tucked securely into the man’s embrace.
The man scratched the kitten’s pointed ears, his fingers spreading as he stroked from the back of the head all the way down to the back. He then pressed the back of his hand against the kitten’s forehead. Only after doing all this did he exhale a sigh of relief and speak with a hint of helplessness. “Your illness has not fully healed yet. You cannot come out.”
As the days grew warmer, the man no longer wore thick wool coats. Instead, he had switched to a dark, calf length trench coat, and the clothes underneath had become thinner. The dark fabric faintly revealed the muscular lines of his body, which were strictly wrapped in the loose coat. Only a close proximity, like the one Song the Cat currently occupied, could offer a view of the contours.
Pressed against the man’s firm chest, the cat let out two meows in protest. “My illness was cured long ago!”
He had already recovered from his fever yesterday!
Lu Jingchuan had been uneasy after returning from the hospital yesterday. Fearing the kitten might catch a cold in its stomach and get diarrhea, he had taken a child’s fever patch and secured it to the kitten’s thigh with an elastic sports band. This had turned the kitten’s two furry legs into awkward, segmented lotus roots.
Thanks to such meticulous care, Song Xingyu felt completely refreshed when he woke up this morning. He was so hungry that he finished a large plate of cat food prepared by the man and even ate two extra fresh, delicious rabbit kidneys.
After turning into a cat, Song Xingyu found himself eating things he used to avoid, even finding them quite tasty through a feline’s sense of taste. After finishing the rabbit kidneys, he ate two fresh shrimp and half a peeled cucumber, filling his belly until it was perfectly round. When Lu Jingchuan left the house, the cat was still sprawled in his bed by the window, unwilling to move.
As it turned out, the lazy kitten in the nest had been lured out by another cat and had foolishly run out to catch the breeze. Lu Jingchuan looked displeased. He scratched the kitten’s chin and took the opportunity to check the cat’s entire body while he was not looking. He only felt relieved after confirming there were no injuries.
The heartless kitten wagged its tail, bracing its paws on the man’s shoulder. He poked his small head forward and lifted his chin enjoyably, humming and meowing. A comfortable, rounded purr rolled out like a string of happy pearls. He rubbed his small head against the man’s chin in a spoiled manner before springing up onto his shoulder.
With this series of movements, Song the Cat successfully stepped onto the man’s shoulder with all four paws, puffing out his chest to look down upon the world. Lu Jingchuan wanted to scold him, but the cat let out a low meow and pushed against the man’s hand with a serious expression, as if saying, “How bold of you to criticize the Great Cat King.”
Lu Jingchuan might have had the capacity to scold a kitten, but making him actually do it was another matter. “Since you are so energetic, you should come running with me today.”
The kitten was too restless. It must be a lack of exercise. Once he was tired from playing, he would not think about running out anymore.
As Lu Jingchuan spoke, he lowered his head at the kitten’s light patting gesture, only for a cat paw to smack him right in the face. Lu Jingchuan was speechless.
Song Xingyu unhappily patted the man’s face, his amber gold eyes wide with disbelief as he peered at the man.
“Miu? You really want a weak, pitiful, and sick kitten to go running? Meow wuu? Are you really going to make things difficult for me, a little kitten?”
Song the Cat was shocked by this self disciplined man. He scratched his ears incredulously, then scratched them again. Finally, in a fit of rage, he slapped the man’s face again. “Meow meow! You damnable bad man! I will hit you! I will hit you!”
Song the Cat flailed his cat fists, delivering a flurry of punches and kicks to the heartless man. He scrambled onto the man’s head, biting and messing up his neatly styled hair.
Looking at the results, the man had messy hair and several red marks on his face. Far from looking pathetic, the scattered hair ends veiled his eyes, revealing a deep, brooding handsomeness amidst the chaos. With his indifferent expression, he actually possessed a breathtaking, forbidden aura.
Hateful! He still looks this good even when he is a mess. He relies entirely on his face to be handsome. How damnable!
Song the Cat gave him a hard kick on the face. The man simply reached out to support the cat’s back, remaining calm and composed. He patted the kitten’s back unbothered, stroking from the back of the head to the tip of the tail, before snatching the scruff of the escaping kitten’s neck.
“Youyou,” he said. He pointed to his own face and looked at Song Xingyu gloomily.
Song the Cat felt guilty for a split second before immediately becoming righteous. He straightened his upper body and put his paws on his hips with an air of “What are you going to do about it?”
The kitten stood tall, his soft chest looking like a pile of white clouds. His charming face looked like melting sunset clouds, to say nothing of his sweet, honey like amber eyes. Just one look from the kitten, and no one could stay angry with him.
Lu Jingchuan, of course, would not get angry at the kitten either. He was simply using the situation as a pretext. “For the trouble you caused, you are punished with a run.”
The man patted the kitten’s lower back, and the cat immediately arched its body, meowing as it was ushered to the ground. As the kitten walked, it stretched its tail to hook the man’s ankle, looking up and meowing long, soft strings of what were clearly very dirty curses.
Lu Jingchuan put his earphones in and walked forward with his hands in his pockets, not sparing a single glance for the kitten. His sharp profile appeared cold and heartless. However, his steps precisely dodged every sudden attack from the kitten. Whenever the kitten tried to run away, he called out in a serious tone, “Youyou.”
Song the Cat immediately narrowed his eyes unhappily and let out a low, dangerous growl. The man stood under the shade of a tree, where the shadows and light split him into two sides, making his face difficult to look at directly. He simply called the kitten’s name, and the paw Song the Cat had extended to run away instantly retracted. He was inexplicably frightened by the man’s cool, serious tone, and his heart trembled as he instinctively obeyed.
Seeing the kitten stop, the man’s cold expression softened slightly. “Come here,” he said. Lu Jingchuan bent down and scooped up the kitten as it lunged toward him.
“Meow meow meow!” Song the Cat curled up in the man’s arms, held like a small child. A sense of grievance inexplicably welled up in his heart, and he meowed accusations at the man. “You never used to talk to me like that! Hmph!”
Fingers toyed with the kitten’s ear, which flicked provocatively. The cat angrily refused to let the man touch it. Lu Jingchuan tapped the kitten’s head. “Such a childish temper.”
“You are the one who is childish! You are a childish brat and a crybaby!” Song Xingyu thought.
Song Xingyu angrily bit the man’s hand. His baby teeth gnawed for a while, leaving several small indentations. Consequently, Song the Cat grew even angrier, righteously kicking the man’s palm and fiercely forbidding him from touching. Even though he was the one who had snuck out, Song Xingyu acted as though Lu Jingchuan was the one doing something wrong.
Lu Jingchuan scratched the kitten’s ear and took out his phone. The head of his company was calling him. The kitten did not understand the business matters, but Song Xingyu poked his head out and pressed his face against the man’s to listen. He only vaguely heard the other party asking if Lu Jingchuan’s urgent matter had been resolved.
As it turned out, Lu Jingchuan had abruptly told people he had an emergency and returned home. But what emergency did Lu Xiaochuan have? He even wanted to take me for a run! Hmph!
After a few affirmative hums, Lu Jingchuan steadyingly told the person on the phone, “It has been resolved. I will send today’s work to you via email later. If it is outside of working hours, please look at it tomorrow.”
“Youyou,” the man said after hanging up the phone. The kitten in his arms faked an innocent look, folding its ears back as if it had done nothing.
Youyou was a kitten that loved to eavesdrop on phone calls. Lu Jingchuan flicked the kitten’s beautiful mismatched ears and said in a serious tone, “Did you hear that, Youyou? I still have work today, so our exercise time is less than an hour.”
He looked at his watch and nodded seriously to correct himself. “Forty eight minutes and twenty three seconds.”
Song the Cat thought, “Meow meow meow?”
“Twenty two seconds. Twenty one seconds.”
Lu Jingchuan counted down, heartlessly putting the kitten on the ground and signaling for it to run. This infuriated the exercise hating Song the Cat, who immediately regained full energy and meowed his protest, frantically scratching at the man’s trouser leg.
Resistance was futile. Song the Cat wore a grumpy expression, his tail dragging low on the ground and his pointed ears drooping unhappily as he walked along the path with total resistance.
The man followed behind him, his leather shoes clicking on the gravel path. As he walked, he used his phone to record a video of the kitten. He opened the music app and saw that today’s chat still stopped at the message he had sent Xingxing this morning. He refreshed it several times, even though he had already done so dozens of times today, but there was still no reply.
Lu Jingchuan could only send the recorded video over and add a sentence. “I have saved tickets for Mr. Deng’s concert. Xingxing, do you want to go with me?”
Lu Jingchuan deleted the words “with me” and carefully rephrased the message before sending it. He weighed his words, wanting to talk more with Song Xingyu. Just looking over their previous messages made his brow relax and his eyes fill with laughter.
“Youyou’s Dad?”
Before the person arrived, a series of happy barks rushed over. The little calico, whose head was almost touching the ground, suddenly looked up, nearly having his face jumped on by a large black and white dog. Before the Border Collie could lunge, Lu Jingchuan quickly blocked the kitten and moved the cat from his leg to his shoulder.
“Lele,” he frowned and scolded the dog. The dog barked excitedly and spun in circles before being ordered to sit down.
Lele’s Dad came racing over on an electric bike like a bolt of lightning, coming to a stylish stop. This handsome young man, who had reached a million followers as a gaming streamer, arched an eyebrow at Lu Jingchuan and gave a cheerful greeting.
“You are the only one who can control him. My dog is practically a spirit. He drags me out for walks every day. You cat owners have it much better.” Lele’s Dad complained, reaching down to pet the clever dog that was lunging at his leg for attention. When he spoke of the dog’s intelligence, his grin stretched from ear to ear. “Why have I not seen you out walking the cat these past few days?”
Oh!
Song the Cat stared at Lele’s Dad. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. His gaze moved from the simple long sleeved shirt to the wide leg jeans, then to the smooth forehead and handsome, clean features. He was the perfect example of a quiet, good looking tech geek. This was exactly the high quality human Blueberry wanted!
“Meow meow meow!”
The little calico suddenly became excited. He leaned down from his owner’s arm and poked his head out. “Lele! Does your owner want a wife or not?”
