After Turning Into a Kitten, I Was Adopted by My Father-Figure Childhood Friend - Chapter 35
“Lele, does your master want a wife or not?”
“Woof woof!” The black and white Border Collie spun in a large circle on the spot. It looked up excitedly, barking twice as it pawed at the man’s trousers, cautiously leaning in to touch noses with the kitten.
Lowering its voice, it let out a few low whines. It sillily stuck out its tongue, opening its large mouth as if it wanted to lick the kitten from head to tail.
“Woof-woo!” Want one, want one! Want a wife!
The happy puppy opened its mouth to reveal a row of sharp teeth, but before it could nuzzle the kitten, its muzzle was caught by the kitten’s owner.
“Lele!” The man’s brows were deep, and his cold black eyes were like frozen, unmelting ice. An invisible pressure poured out as he locked eyes with the large dog, making him unexpectedly intimidating.
Canines are exceptionally sensitive to this kind of power hierarchy. The cheerful dog immediately shut its mouth and sat obediently by the man’s feet. Its dark eyes looked at the man piteously, and it could not stop emitting small, sorrowful whimpers.
The man remained unmoved. He gave a stern, deep-voiced reprimand that made the dog both timid and well-behaved. It sat silently at his heel, no longer daring to pounce.
Only then did Lu Jingchuan’s tone soften. He reached out and spoke encouragingly, “Good boy.”
“Whine!” Lele immediately grinned, happily raising a paw to shake hands with the man, its tail wagging like crazy.
Lele’s dad immediately scolded with an air of “hating that iron could not become steel,” “Zhang Lele, you are supposed to be a smart shepherd dog!”
Hateful! To think you were trained into a silly dog by someone else!
Lele’s dad could not help but peek at Youyou’s dad. This successful cat owner was said to have returned from studying abroad. Even basic, solid-colored clothes looked like high-fashion runway gear on him. His superior brow bone made his facial structure very sharp, and the shadows cast there gave him a moody, intense look. Just standing there with a stern expression made people feel apprehensive.
Never mind a dog being trained into circles by him; even a person would likely be trained into circles in his presence.
Lele’s dad suddenly felt a surge of envy. Thinking about the nights he spent staying up to play games and the girls he had missed out on, he could not help but think that this man looked like a “normie” with a wealth of experience.
Lu Jingchuan, who had been single since birth and whose attention for half his life had been entirely on Song Xingyou, lowered his brows. His gaze, still chilly from scolding the dog, fell upon the kitten in his arms. His slender fingers pressed rhythmically against the kitten’s neck.
Song the cat suddenly flinched. He felt a sense of crisis, as if the scruff of his neck were being pinched. He quickly retracted his head and used his soft, pointed ears to rub against the man’s chin.
“Meow-woo, meow-woo!”
His paws bloomed as he pressed them against the man’s neck, hugging him while meowing and chirping to beg for a guarantee.
Since you are done scolding him, you cannot scold me anymore!
“Good boy.”
Lu Jingchuan’s voice softened as he rubbed the kitten’s pointed ears. He nodded politely to Lele’s dad. “Youyou and I are out for a walk. We will be heading back in a bit.”
Lele’s dad understood instantly. At a time like this, the worst thing was to let a cat and dog stay together, especially his Lele, who went “cat-crazy.” The dog got so excited whenever it saw a cat; he could not let it herd someone else’s precious kitten like a sheep.
“We should head back too. Let us talk next time!”
He grabbed Lele’s collar and hauled the dog back, patting the front of his vehicle to signal the dog to get on. “Let us go, Lele!”
Lele pounced over and rested its head on its master’s thigh, then turned back to look toward the kitten. Lele’s dad smacked the dog’s head. “What are you still looking at? Let us go!”
“Woof-woo!” Lele let out two unhappy whines, shaking its head vigorously and tugging at its master’s clothes to pull him back toward the kitten.
Wife, wife, wife!
Unaware that he was being set up with a girlfriend by a kitten, Lele’s dad misunderstood the intention. He ruthlessly hauled the big dog into the vehicle. “Time to go home, Lele! We are off; let us exercise together next time.”
Lele’s dad waved, twisted the throttle, and sped away on his little electric scooter with a smooth, stylish drift.
Song the cat craned his neck to watch Lele’s dad leave. He thoughtfully scratched his furry chin, his little face solemn. His sparkling cat eyes seemed to hide a speakable, cunning little secret.
However, compared to playing matchmaker, the situation Song the cat was facing now was much more urgent.
His four paws left the air and hit the ground. Song the cat’s field of vision suddenly dropped low to the earth. He looked up in disbelief, his eyes wide.
Lu Jingchuan checked his watch. “We still have twenty-seven minutes.”
“Meow meow meow?”
Lu Jingchuan, you are finished!
Song the cat wagged his tail and pounced on the man’s leg, delivering a flurry of kicks and punches. He used his “meow-meow punches” and “cat-claws,” drawling out long, wailing cries in protest.
After being forced to walk outside for half an hour, Song the cat immediately pricked up his ears and melted into the house the moment they got home. When he reappeared, he jumped onto the dining table and began lapping water from the fountain.
The water gulped down his throat. Because he drank too quickly, the soft white fur on his chest became wet. His little mouth and nose were damp, and his pink snout twitched as he blinked his eyes.
Lu Jingchuan noticed the wet patch on the kitten’s chest. When he walked over, he was captivated by the kitten’s involuntary wink. He could not help but touch the kitten’s chest and back.
The warm, furry sensation was different from all the animals he had encountered abroad. Compared to fierce or even brutal wild animals, his Youyou was clearly cute and soft.
Just resting his hand on the little belly, the fine fur instantly became the most wonderful, inclusive thing in the world, softly swallowing his entire palm.
The kitten’s pointed ears twitched, trembling like falling snowflakes.
Lu Jingchuan did not like animals. At this moment, however, he thought for a while but could not find a more fitting word than “cute.”
Youyou was a cute, cloud-colored kitten.
As he was thinking, his palm touched a hard protrusion. In the next second, the kitten, fly-blown with shame and anger, took a fierce bite of his hand.
Oh, it is an ill-tempered kitten.
Lu Jingchuan instinctively thought this, but he quickly revised the idea.
Youyou was just a kitten with a very strong sense of personal boundaries.
“I am sorry,” Lu Jingchuan apologized sincerely. He withdrew his hand and carefully smoothed out the fur on the kitten’s chest.
He had been inappropriate with a kitten; it was his fault.
Man bad, cat good.
Lu Jingchuan spread his hand out in front of the kitten, allowing it to bite or kick as it pleased.
The little calico immediately hugged his arm and lay down. Biting his thumb, its two hind legs performed fierce “rabbit kicks.”
How dare you touch me there! I will beat you to death! Beat you to death! Hateful jerk! Pervert! You even take advantage of a kitten!
Song the cat wailed his complaints loudly while performing the rabbit kicks. He gritted his teeth and looked fierce, occasionally chasing the man’s hand to gnaw on it, leaving the man’s hand covered in saliva.
Lu Jingchuan’s finger twitched slightly, and he was immediately glared at by the kitten. The fierce little look seemed to be accusing him, and the kitten wailed in a long, sorrowful tone.
Pitiful yet cute.
The man could only stay still and allow himself to be bitten and kicked. Fortunately, the kitten’s temper came and went quickly. It soon perked up, lost interest in his hand, and kicked it away. It bounded down to the floor, turning into a shadow and disappearing.
Lu Jingchuan stared at the tooth marks on his hand and could not help but frown. He opened his phone and asked a doctor: “Is it a dental problem if a nearly four-month-old kitten cannot break the skin when biting?”
The doctor replied, “Why are you and your cat always acting like you are sitting at the same table?”
He did not understand.
Lu Jingchuan searched for “cat keeps making noise.” He replied very precisely, “Youyou is not making noise.”
Eventually, under the doctor’s reassurance, he realized it was normal for a kitten not to break the skin. He put his phone away, satisfied.
He closed the French window that had been left slightly ajar and checked the other doors and windows. Finally, he used some tools to reinforce the locks with small latches to prevent the kitten from running out again.
While doing this, he rolled up his sleeves. His solid muscle lines shifted as his fingers rummaged through the toolbox. His slow, methodical movements were captured by a pair of amber cat eyes.
The man had broad shoulders and long legs. The lines of his back muscles were taut under his clothes. As he moved, the veins on the back of his pale hands stood out, making him look unexpectedly sexy.
Song the cat pressed himself against the floor, secretly observing which complicated mechanisms the man had added to the doors and windows.
Although the bastard had touched somewhere he should not have, Song the cat understood priorities. He had to infiltrate the enemy’s interior to know himself and his enemy for ultimate victory!
Song the cat clenched his paw firmly, his amber-gold eyes watching intently.
As he watched, his gaze could not help but be drawn to those long, handsome hands. The hands he remembered using for signing papers and drawing designs were full of tension even when holding tools.
At the thought of those hands having just touched him “there,” his ear tips grew warm for some reason. He felt an itch in his chest, and strangely, the warmth from the man’s palm seemed to linger.
Compared to a child born to older parents, Lu Jingchuan was a child his parents had anticipated with love while young. His mother had eaten scientifically and exercised during pregnancy, making his body much healthier than Song Xingyou’s. Even in the dead of winter, his palms were always hot.
Song Xingyou, on the other hand, was very afraid of the cold. In winter, he would deliberately tuck his hands into Lu Jingchuan’s palms to let him warm them up. Sometimes, he would even treat Lu Jingchuan’s hands as hot water bottles, holding them to warm his face.
The warmth of Lu Jingchuan’s palms was probably the memory of most of his winters.
Song Xingyou suddenly felt his head grow hot. Dizzily, he trotted across the floor like a little pony. He hopped up the stairs, his tail sweeping the floor. He hooked the small blanket from his cat bed and dragged it into the walk-in closet.
A corner of the small blanket disappeared at the entrance of the closet partitioned off from the master bedroom, along with a strangely shifting human shadow that vanished into the rows of clothes.
Ding-dong.
Lu Jingchuan’s movements to add a small latch paused. He brushed a stray hair from his forehead and tossed the pliers back into the toolbox. His gaze focused on the software notification that popped up on his phone.
It was that same music app. Lu Jingchuan quickly opened it, went through the trouble of clicking on the private messages to find the chat interface, and finally received a reply from Song Xingyou after 21 hours.
Song Xingyou: How dare you touch that kind of place! You are a lecherous man! Filthy, shameless, and base!
Lu Jingchuan replied, “?”
What on earth was Xingxing saying that made one want to die?
