After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 51
Chapter 51
“Chaoyan~ Chaoyan~”
Hibird flew over from nearby and landed on Jin Chaoyan’s shoulder, affectionately rubbing its head against her chin. Its bead-like black eyes darted around before finally spotting Hibari standing on the other side.
It tried hard to remember the words it had said the last time such a situation occurred, and suddenly shrieked in its high, thin voice, “Dog man~ Dog man~”
Dino: “?”
Kyoya Hibari: “…”
He raised an eyebrow. Even ten years from now, such vocabulary was clearly not his style of teaching. It had taken a lot of effort to teach Hibird to sing the school anthem and speak simple phrases; he hadn’t expected that ten years later, his pet would have learned words taught by someone else. For a moment, Hibari’s mood was quite complex.
Jin Chaoyan was startled by Hibird’s sudden outburst, momentarily forgetting to cry. As she scooped the bird off her shoulder, the first thing she realized was why the future Hibari knew she was secretly cursing him in her heart back in the training room on Qixi.
It was because there was a little traitor who had learned the word!
“Hibird, you can’t say that.” She gently stroked its head with her fingertip. Although her tear tracks hadn’t dried yet, she wore a very tender smile. Speaking with a slight nasal congestion, she asked, “Have you eaten, baby? Do you want to go back and eat with Mommy?”
“Eat~ Eat~”
Hibird flapped its wings, lightly pecking her fingertip with its beak, loudly repeating her words.
Dino watched from the side for a while, feeling that all the Vongola rumors he’d heard—about Hibari being separated from his wife or having “physical issues”—were likely wrong. Setting the latter aside, given the relationship between Jin Chaoyan and the pet, he didn’t think there were any emotional issues between the couple.
—Especially seeing how aggrieved she looked just now; it was obvious Hibari wouldn’t normally say such harsh things to her.
“I brought dinner for you, Mr. Dino. If you don’t mind, please stay and eat.” Having been comforted by the fluffy Hibird, Jin Chaoyan finally recovered from the shock. Constantly reminding herself that she wasn’t familiar with this fifteen-year-old Hibari, she finally regained her composure.
Seeing her act as if Hibari didn’t exist at all, Dino rubbed his nose. He thanked her and accepted the dinner from Kina. Then, after a polite goodbye, Jin Chaoyan left with her housekeeper and the pet.
Afterward, the handsome tutor from Italy jerked his chin at his disciple, who still looked somewhat conflicted. “How does it feel to be ignored after making your wife angry, Kyoya?”
“How the hell did you have the ability ten years later to get such a beautiful, gentle, and considerate girl to like you…” He muttered a line, then shook his head. “Forget it, I’ll save that question for the future you. Right now, you’re just a blockhead.”
The dusk settled in. The streetlights flickered on. Standing under the light, the youth with soft black hair pursed his lips. Even though his tonfas were gilded with a warm glow by the lamps, they still made one’s heart turn cold.
“Your lecturing tone is really irritating, Cavallone.”
Dino, with his subordinates nearby, unhesitatingly drew his whip with a sharp smile. “Since I knew you’d be the same as always, I should have fought you first—that’s the only way you’ll listen to anyone.”
On the way back, Jin Chaoyan discovered a serious problem.
Back when she was worried about her safety during the plane crash, she had actually bought [Dousanjin] and the [Flying Thunder God Technique]. Although she hadn’t used them then, she had planned to persuade the young Hibari to keep a marked kunai on him.
However, because of the car being wrecked, she completely forgot. The kunai had been left inside the dinner bags she gave to Dino and the others…
One hundred million. Even in yen, that was a vital medium for a space-time ninjutsu worth one hundred million!
Thinking of this, she sent a message to Kusakabe, asking him to remind them not to throw away that strange kunai and to bring it back to her when he had time. Having already lost a precious sports car that might be beyond repair, her life could not handle losing another hundred million.
That night, after returning to the base, Jin Chaoyan didn’t just snuggle with Hibird; she even pulled out her black card. Holding it in both hands against her chest for a sense of security, she prepared to sleep.
But perhaps the balance on the card was too high—the intangible weight of such life-sustaining wealth kept her awake for a long time. At first, she thought she had just slept too much the day before, so she patiently played on her phone. But when midnight came and she was exhausted yet still wide awake, she was stunned.
Hibird had slept and woken up again, yet she was still staring at the ceiling counting sheep.
Unable to figure it out, she got up and paced the large bedroom. She was yawning with fatigue, yet the moment she lay down, it felt as if something was missing, preventing her from resting. After some thought, she lit a grass-scented candle to soothe her nerves and finally fell asleep as the sky began to pale.
Just as her consciousness turned hazy, a mechanical voice suddenly rang in her head:
“Detected Flying Thunder God coordinate is crossing space. Coordinate about to be lost. Perform positioning?”
What? Crossing space? Losing the coordinate? What are those Vongola kids doing now?
Drunk with sleep, she mumbles “Yes.” Suddenly, she felt herself enveloped in white light. Her long-trained reflexes made her snap her eyes open immediately. Seeing her surroundings shifting, she only had time to reach out and grab her coat from the bedside.
The scenery changed from an exquisite Japanese-style bedroom to towering trees, a melodic blue sky, and damp soil. She sat on the ground blankly, looking up at three tall male students with messy uniforms standing before her. Because they looked so old and thuggish, she couldn’t even tell what grade they were in.
“What’s the deal? Boss, is she doing some kind of magic trick?” One of them nudged the one in the middle, his gaze sweeping over the woman who had suddenly appeared—her figure appearing quite sensual in her current state—and his eyes grew heated.
“Who cares? Isn’t this better? While that ‘Plague God’ is away these two days and the Disciplinary Committee is out looking for people, we might as well relax, right?” The middle student gave a cruel laugh and reached out for her—
But he grabbed empty air.
Jin Chaoyan felt uncomfortable under their gaze. After getting up, she didn’t bother dusting herself off. She draped the thin coat she’d grabbed on her way out over her shoulders and looked around. She only recognized the building as a school wing and the distant sports field, but nothing more specific.
So, she ignored their looks and asked, “Excuse me, where is this place?”
“Hand over your wallet,” the tall student in the middle said with a grin, adding, “and since you’ve suddenly become so pretty, give me a kiss and I’ll tell you the answer you want.”
Jin Chaoyan: “?”
Ever since coming to this world, she had mostly faced life-threatening crises. Hearing such low-level street harassment for the first time, she was a bit slow to react. Instinctively touching her waist, she remembered she had unbuckled her weapons to sleep. She mentally noted to learn her lesson for next time.
However, against a few school delinquents, she didn’t really need a gun.
She easily stepped aside to dodge the leader’s slow-motion lunge. Noticing she had been transported directly from her bed, she wasn’t even wearing shoes. For a moment, she felt it wasn’t right to punch, nor was it right to kick. After dodging several consecutive moves by instinct, she still hadn’t decided how to handle it.
Just then, two boys in black uniforms with pompadour hairstyles passing by noticed the situation and quickly walked over. “You there! What are you all gathered here for?”
Hearing their voices, the three thugs hesitated to leave, but the Disciplinary members immediately looked at the only woman not in uniform. “And who are you? Outsiders are not allowed in Namimori Middle School. Please leave immediately.”
…Eh? Namimori Middle School?
Jin Chaoyan turned to look at the school building. She finally remembered she had seen it from the outside yesterday. Looking at their uniforms, she wondered for a second, “Excuse me, what year is it?”
On the rooftop.
Having been sent back because the Vongola Boxes required the inheritance of the seven Arcobaleno, Kyoya Hibari had just refreshed his spirit by giving the Vice-Chairman—who dared to order him around in the future—a strike with his tonfa. He had intended to sleep more on the roof, but he caught sight of several figures gathered in the shadow of the flowerbeds below.
He thought he glimpsed a flutter of light blue hair. It looked a bit like the woman he had seen during training with the Cavallone last night.
He narrowed his eyes and suddenly turned. The hem of his jacket traced a wild arc in the wind but remained steadily draped over his shoulders. A moment later, his figure was swallowed by the stairwell.
Under the swaying shadows of the trees, it was a bright sunny day, but the shadows felt excessively cool, as if summer were turning into winter.
Jin Chaoyan felt a chill on her legs. She wondered if she was getting too old or out of touch; she couldn’t understand why, after simply asking a question, these two Disciplinary members were approaching her with such hostility, looking ready to evict her. They hadn’t even bothered with the three thugs.
Were the rules of Namimori really this hard to grasp?
She dodged their movements as usual. It wasn’t that she couldn’t fight, but knowing they might be Hibari’s subordinates, she felt a sense of “the Great Flood destroying the Dragon King’s temple.” She was trying to think of a new way to communicate.
But again, before she could reach a conclusion—
“You all, what are you doing gathered here?”
A cold, melodious voice with the distinct characteristics of a youth came from behind. Jin Chaoyan tilted her head to dodge a student’s reach, pulled back to a safe distance, and turned to look at the newcomer.
First, she saw that fifteen-year-old face she had just seen yesterday—the tiny old scars on his cheeks were the same. Then she saw the Vongola Ring on his right middle finger. Only now was she finally certain that this Kyoya Hibari was the ten-years-ago version she had met yesterday!
“Chairman!” The two Disciplinary members stiffened and bowed to him immediately, answering in terror, “We found an outsider and were about to escort her out.”
“I…” Jin Chaoyan pointed at herself, instinctively looking at Hibari. “I was sleeping at the base and somehow ended up here. I didn’t mean to trespass illegally.”
As she explained, her bare feet shifted uncomfortably on the soil. Her thin coat was unbuttoned, held together loosely by a waist tie. Her waist was slender, and the hem of the coat aligned with her nightgown, revealing long, dazzlingly white legs.
Just as she finished speaking, she saw the other person brandish his tonfas. Her eyes widened, her body tensing, as she heard two distinct sounds of bone-breaking impacts from her left and right:
“Aaagh!”
“Ugh!”
The two Disciplinary members were sent flying. The culprit calmly flicked the blood off his tonfas. “Dogs with bad eyesight are useless to keep around.”
Jin Chaoyan finally dared to breathe. She hadn’t expected that her previous hesitation was overthinking; compared to her punching them, Hibari was clearly much more ruthless.
She saw his grey-blue eyes drift toward the three remaining male students who had been watching the show. Seeing the Master of the Territory return, they were terrified and turned to run, shouting:
“We were wrong! We’re leaving!” “Chairman, I was just passing by!” “Don’t bite us to death!”
Hearing them, Jin Chaoyan instinctively called out, “Wait! Stop right there!”
They tried to flee the area, but the person next to them let out a soft, huff-like chuckle. Then, with a clack, long iron chains dropped from the tonfas. With a flick of his wrist, the cold chains flew out, entangling the three who had already run a distance and dragging them back.
The tricks that usually worked failed today. The three thugs hung their heads in despair, babbling any flattery they could think of.
But he only furrowed his elegant brows under his bangs. “Noisy.”
As he spoke, his grey-blue eyes looked at Jin Chaoyan, as if prompting her to continue.
Jin Chaoyan blinked, looking at the thugs. “Weren’t you having a lot of fun harassing me just now? Why act innocent now?”
She hadn’t even decided how to beat them yet; she couldn’t let them go! She blamed the “dog store” for not selling any cheap weapons—it was too hard for her to judge the right amount of force to discipline thugs!
But in Hibari’s ears, these words took on a different meaning.
…Is this woman filing a complaint with him?
Regardless—
The smile faded from his lips, and his eyes turned cold. The hidden chains of the tonfas retracted. He pressed another mechanism, and countless terrifying spikes emerged from the weapons. Though they stood in the shadows, the spikes seemed to reflect the sunlight outside, causing the thugs’ eyes to widen in horror.
“Is that so?”
Hibari didn’t know why his future self would have such a herbivore around, but what irritated him more was that someone dared to offend his authority—even if this herbivore was protected by his future self.
“Since you are trash… you shall return to the dust.”
