After Transmigrating to Become Lady Skylark - Chapter 52
Chapter 52
As Kyoya Hibari dragged the three unrecognizable students away by their collars—one in one hand, two in the other—he didn’t forget to drop a command to Jin Chaoyan:
“Stay put.”
Glancing at the soil beneath her feet, Jin Chaoyan pointed to the nearby concrete ground. “Is it okay if I stand over there?”
The youth didn’t speak, which was his way of giving tacit permission. The woman tidied her coat and refastened her belt. Looking up, she saw him walking back empty-handed. She instinctively glanced behind him, but there was no trace of the three male students.
“You put them…?”
“Threw them out,” Kyoya Hibari replied without blinking, his tone remains unhurried. Paired with his refined and handsome face, it was impossible to imagine the brutal, blood-splattered scene of him beating people just moments ago. “Leaving them here would soil my territory.”
Jin Chaoyan nodded, but soon recalled her previous confusion. “Why do I feel like this school is a bit different from when I came yesterday?”
“This is Namimori Middle School from ten years ago.” Kyoya Hibari looked at her clothes calmly. Recalling her agility in dodging those attacks earlier, a flash of thoughtfulness crossed his grey-blue eyes.
“Eh?” She didn’t notice his scrutiny. “Why? Haven’t you guys fought Byakuran yet?”
Unfortunately, the fifteen-year-old youth had exhausted all his patience in those two questions. He suddenly drew his weapons—which had somehow become clean again—and curled his lips. “You don’t seem weak. Fight me, and I’ll answer you.”
Jin Chaoyan: “?” She took two careful steps back, her voice turning weak. “C-can I refuse?”
Seeing that she truly had no will to fight and that her eyes were full of awe toward him, the youth twirled his tonfas and put them away. He then pulled a phone from his pocket and tossed it to her. “If you want to know something, call the infant yourself.”
He turned and left, his old black uniform trailing a sharp silhouette in the air, the red armband as striking as ever. Jin Chaoyan looked at the phone, then at his departing figure. While following him, she flipped open the phone to find Reborn’s contact info.
Fifteen minutes later. Third floor of Namimori Middle School.
From Reborn, she learned that the Vongola Decimo and his Guardians needed to temporarily return to the past to collect the seven Arcobaleno Seals within a week to open the Vongola Boxes. After washing the mud off her feet at a hallway sink, Jin Chaoyan began to wonder why she had ended up ten years in the past as well.
They were able to come because their ten-years-later bodies were stored in devices by Irie Shoichi, so their return didn’t trigger a body swap. But what about her?
Would the “original” Jin Chaoyan from ten years ago… be swapped to ten years in the future?
Even though Reborn said the flow of time between the two eras had been adjusted—spending a week here would only take an hour in the future—Jin Chaoyan couldn’t help but worry. If the original host suddenly appeared in the future base, would there be an accident?
…After all, the original body had a heart condition.
Troublesome questions came one after another. She let out a soft sigh and turned toward the reception room, only to see a student with a pompadour and a similarly aged face walking toward her. Before even reaching her, he suddenly bowed and held out a pair of slippers with both hands. His voice carried an unmistakable tremor:
“T-this is what the Chairman ordered me to give to you. Please.”
Jin Chaoyan was startled. She recovered and thanked him. The slippers were new and featured a pink bunny pattern. Although the size wasn’t quite right—a bit loose—they didn’t hinder her walking.
She walked to the reception room door and knocked. Receiving a response from inside, she turned the handle and stood at the doorway. “I’m here to return the phone. Thank you.”
Kyoya Hibari was the only one in the room. Knowing he obviously wouldn’t get up to take it himself, Jin Chaoyan tried taking a step inside. Seeing no change in his expression regarding his territory being “invaded,” she entered the reception room, which was quite luxurious compared to the plain school building.
As the boy took back his phone, his cold, pale skin formed a sharp contrast with the black device. Because his frame hadn’t fully filled out yet, his hands had an elegant, refined feel.
—There was still a difference compared to ten years later.
“Anything else?” Kyoya Hibari saw her standing there for a long time without leaving. He sat in a soft leather office chair and slightly lifted his eyelids to look at her.
Under his gaze, Jin Chaoyan suddenly remembered the mechanical voice she heard before coming here. A flash of inspiration hit her; she felt she had found the reason for her sudden return to the past. “Excuse me… last night when I sent dinner to you and Mr. Dino, did you see a black kunai inside?”
“You mean this?” Kyoya Hibari pulled the space-coordinate worth one hundred million from his jacket pocket and tossed it casually onto the desk. “If it’s important, keep it safe yourself.”
Yesterday, his fight with the Cavallone had been fierce, destroying many things nearby. The future Vice-Chairman had spent a long time rummaging through the wreckage, muttering that this thing was very important to Jin Chaoyan, so Hibari had picked it up when he saw it.
Jin Chaoyan: “!” Case closed on the time-travel incident!
It was because Kyoya Hibari carried her kunai through time back to the past that 001 triggered the emergency prompt. In her sleepy daze, she had agreed without thinking, and was dragged along for the ride!
She picked up the kunai, her expression blank for a long while, until the youth completely lost his patience and asked: “Why haven’t you left yet?”
“G-go where?” Jin Chaoyan snapped out of it, staring at him blankly.
“Wherever you want.” He sat in his chair. Though his voice was clear and his demeanor calm, no one dared ignore a single word he said. “Just don’t stand around here.”
After quietly closing the door, Jin Chaoyan stepped out and organized her thoughts in the hallway.
Known: She traveled ten years into the past. To get back, she has to wait seven days for Tsuna and the others to finish the Arcobaleno trials.
Question: How to handle the disappearance of the “original” host? How to handle the relationship with her during this time? Where will she stay and what will she eat for the next few days, since she has no wallet and nowhere to go?
Unknowingly, the sky had darkened. Through the bright hallway windows, she could see the sky painted in layers of orange. She stood watching for a while until the door behind her opened again.
The youth, about to head out for dinner, saw her still lingering in the school. Just as he was about to frown, Jin Chaoyan spoke first. “Excuse me, do you know how to get to Miura Haru’s house?”
She quickly provided an explanation: “I have nowhere to go and no money. I want to ask her if I can stay with her and maybe borrow some money.”
“Don’t know.” Kyoya Hibari didn’t know much about the students at his own school, let alone one from another.
However, hearing that she had nowhere to go and no money, his previous air of impatience vanished, replaced by a strange expression.
“…” Jin Chaoyan’s expression gradually turned to despair. Even her stomach let out a hungry cry of protest.
The Disciplinary Chairman’s expression became even odder, but only for a fleeting second. Soon, the boy walked toward the stairs, dropping a cool remark:
“Follow me.”
Puzzled, the woman started walking, trailing a short distance behind him. As they walked out of the school, she felt a bit lucky that the Hibari of this age was as tall as her; otherwise, she might have had to run to keep up.
Namimori’s scenery ten years ago wasn’t much different from ten years in the future. At least to Jin Chaoyan, it was all equally unfamiliar. While carefully making sure not to lose him, she looked around, eventually finding the boy stopping in front of a fast-food restaurant.
The moment he pushed the door open, Jin Chaoyan swore she heard many people standing up in a panic, knocking over food and drinks. Almost as soon as she entered the shop, the fleeing customers looked like a flock of sheep migrating across the prairie.
“D-Disciplinary Chairman!” The clerk behind the counter stared tremblingly at the arrival of the Emperor of Namimori, who came with an automatic “clear the room” effect. His jaw was chattering. “We’ve already paid this month’s protection fee on time!”
The boy’s soft black hair was slightly long, with the middle falling over the bridge of his nose. When he looked down, it gave an illusion of peaceful serenity. He looked at the menu and gave a calm “Mhm,” saying, “One of this burger set.”
He then turned sideways to look at the woman behind him. He didn’t say a word, but she understood his meaning. She stepped forward, scanned the menu, and ordered: “A Teriyaki Chicken Burger, a cup of sweet milk, and a strawberry ice cream. How much is that?”
Jin Chaoyan asked out of habit before remembering she didn’t have her wallet. She instinctively glanced to the side.
“Y-you’re welcome.” The clerk answered blankly, following her gaze to Kyoya Hibari. The moment the youth looked up indifferently, the clerk shuddered and quickly added, “N-no need! It is our absolute honor to have you patronize us! Please wait, the kitchen will have it ready immediately!”
“…” Jin Chaoyan looked at the person beside her who took it all for granted, then at the clerk who was breaking into a sweat just taking an order. She felt she was experiencing a new facet of life.
If she had to give this experience a title, it would be “Back to the Years My Husband Was a School Delinquent,” and this chapter would be titled: Eating for Free.
Bringing the food to the table, she sat opposite Hibari. Thinking about how he helped her vent earlier and was “treating” her to dinner, her gaze fell on the old scars on his face that hadn’t healed. She couldn’t help but speak up:
“The… wounds on your face. Do you want to treat them?”
“A hassle,” the boy replied impatiently as he picked up his burger. He unwrapped it, his white shirt sleeve falling back slightly to reveal a cold, pale wrist bone. Despite holding cheap burger wrapping paper, at this moment, he gave an odd illusion of luxury to the food.
Jin Chaoyan looked away. Thinking of the only bonus product from the discounted bundle she bought on Qixi, she hesitated for a moment but tried to suggest: “Can you let me try? It’ll be quick.”
“?” The youth’s movements paused. He felt her fingertips reaching toward him. Then, her palm stopped at a distance just before touching his cheek, emitting a soft green glow.
The tiny, barely noticeable scars quickly became comfortable and smooth. After the woman retracted her hand, he tilted his face and saw his completely restored reflection in the window beside them.
[Mystical Palm Technique]—the only bonus Jin Chaoyan, a “Super VIP” big spender, had received from the “dog store.” Although she already had many healing skills in her warehouse, she wouldn’t normally waste them on strangers. Seeing this handsome face restored to perfection, she felt quite satisfied.
“Wao.” The boy curled his lip, looking at her with interest. “What kind of trick is this?”
It wasn’t an illusion, nor was it the power of the rings used in the future world.
“A small healing technique.” Jin Chaoyan was getting used to being honest with him, so she didn’t hold much back. “But it’s a one-time thing; I won’t be able to use it again.”
Kyoya Hibari saw that although she was hungry, she hadn’t touched her food. After using this so-called healing technique, she continued to stare at him. With a rare moment of hesitation, he opened his lips and asked:
“So, what do you want to exchange this favor for?”
Behind the service counter.
The clerk covered his mouth, crouched back behind the counter, took out his phone, and sent a message to a friend:
“The Disciplinary Chairman just brought his girlfriend to our shop for a free meal!”
“I’ve seen it, it’s a ‘Big Sister’ romance!”
“He even let her touch his face. My god, the demon looks so well-behaved!”
