After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 57
Hearing this, Jiang Muyan replied somewhat sheepishly, “Yeah, I’m the only one who knows you’re an omega.”
Cheng Jianli asked, “Are you going to relay race practice after school this afternoon?”
Jiang Muyan nodded, “Mhm, one of my friends is also participating in the relay. I can train with her.”
At the mention of this “friend,” Cheng Jianli’s writing hand paused momentarily. She asked casually, “Who?”
“Xu Yinghe, you probably remember her,” Jiang Muyan said cheerfully. “Last time at the bar, You Xia even helped block drinks for her.”
Cheng Jianli inquired, “She’s joining the relay race too?”
“I heard it from Tang Yu,” Jiang Muyan replied.
For some reason, Cheng Jianli felt slightly averse to Xu Yinghe, even though they’d barely met. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Xu Yinghe looked down on her.
Normally indifferent to others’ opinions, Cheng Jianli found herself caring slightly more since this person was Jiang Muyan’s friend.
“How close are you two?” Cheng Jianli lifted her gaze, choosing a neutral phrasing.
Jiang Muyan said, “She’s been quite nice to me.”
“I think I mentioned before that she doesn’t seem to like me,” Cheng Jianli remarked.
Jiang Muyan suddenly realized, “Oh right! I’ve been meaning to introduce you two, but I forgot.”
Cheng Jianli said calmly, “If she genuinely dislikes me, I don’t see the need for introductions.”
“Nonsense! Teacher Cheng, you’re wonderful, who wouldn’t like you?” Jiang Muyan reassured. “But I’d never force you into uncomfortable situations, don’t worry.”
Touched by Jiang Muyan’s constant consideration, Cheng Jianli softly acknowledged with an “Mhm.”
Jiang Muyan smiled and leaned closer, “Then will you come with me to the back field tonight? I’ll ask Uncle Liu to pick us up later.”
“Alright,” Cheng Jianli agreed.
“Great! Wait for me after school then,” Jiang Muyan said happily. “We’ll go together.”
“Fine. Now focus on your problems,” Cheng Jianli glanced at the wall clock. “Class starts in ten minutes, do as many as you can.”
After school, the two walked to the back field together.
The field was bustling with trainees, long jumpers at the sandpit, baton passers on the track, and rope turners on the grass.
The early autumn sunset painted half the sky crimson. Arriving at the open area, Jiang Muyan said, “Teacher Cheng, why don’t you wait on the bleachers? I’ll be back soon.”
Cheng Jianli held her “Required High School Poetry” book, her off-white uniform complementing her jet-black hair and snow-pale complexion. With her faintly pursed rosy lips, she looked strikingly beautiful yet aloof.
Glancing toward the trees, she said, “I’ll wait under that tree.”
The autumn evening beneath the tree felt refreshingly cool.
Jiang Muyan removed her uniform jacket and handed it over, “Use this as a seat cushion, don’t catch cold.”
With that, she dashed off, immediately spotting Tang Yu and waving.
Seeing Jiang Muyan approach, Tang Yu complained wearily, “Young Miss, you finally came! Managing fifty people alone is exhausting.”
Tang Yu was the overall coordinator for the sports meet and was extremely busy every day after school.
Jiang Muyan said, “That’s why I’m here to help you. I can practice my baton passing at the same time.”
Before she could finish, a calm voice came from the side: “Jiang Muyan.”
Jiang Muyan turned and saw Xu Yinghe standing there.
Xu Yinghe was dressed in athletic wear, her slightly wavy long hair cascading down her back. Her almond-shaped eyes were clear and bright.
“I heard you signed up for the mixed-gender relay this morning,” Xu Yinghe said. “Why are you only training now?”
Jiang Muyan was easygoing with everyone. “I was memorizing vocabulary after school. It’s been a while since I last saw you, how’s your training going?”
Xu Yinghe replied, “Not bad. I’m the first runner for my class.”
Jiang Muyan said, “I’m the fourth.”
“Then I’ll come watch you after my run,” Xu Yinghe said. “Don’t forget to secure a good ranking for Class 2.”
Jiang Muyan grinned. “Same to you.”
The two were about the same height, both with flawless looks, and whenever they stood together, people couldn’t help but notice them.
A few girls passing by stole glances at Jiang Muyan, but she was always oblivious to such things. Xu Yinghe, however, noticed. Frowning slightly, she turned away. “Let’s go. The track awaits.”
Cheng Jianli arrived under the old tree, where the orange-red sunset cast a glow on the overlapping emerald hues of the leaves. Only then did she realize someone was standing there.
The girl had a serene face, pale skin, and shoulder-length black hair that fluttered slightly in the evening breeze, obscuring part of her face. Cheng Jianli felt like she had seen her somewhere before. When the girl turned fully toward her, Cheng Jianli called out, “You Xia?”
You Xia blinked in surprise, then smiled faintly. “Cheng Jianli? What a coincidence.”
Cheng Jianli gave a slight nod and walked over to sit down. Beneath her was Jiang Muyan’s beige school jacket, which made You Xia glance at it a few extra times.
“What are you doing here?” Cheng Jianli asked, her slender fingers still holding a book. “If I hadn’t come over, I wouldn’t have noticed you standing behind the tree.”
You Xia’s expression flickered with unease. She quickly sat down as well and murmured, “I had nothing to do after school, so I came to the back field for a walk.”
“Did you sign up for any events in the sports meet?” Cheng Jianli asked.
You Xia laughed awkwardly. “No, I’m terrible at sports. I’d just embarrass my class.”
This girl seemed nervous around Cheng Jianli.
Or maybe she was just nervous and timid around everyone.
Cheng Jianli said, “I’m not good at sports either, but Jiang Muyan dragged me into a fun event.”
“Fun event?”
Cheng Jianli nodded. “Yeah. Maybe your class still has spots open, you could ask your P.E. monitor.”
You Xia mumbled an acknowledgment, then lifted her gaze toward the running track.
Two people were jogging side by side in the outermost lane, one with a high ponytail, laughing brightly, the other with slightly wavy hair, moving with effortless ease.
Cheng Jianli noticed You Xia’s gaze and asked softly, “Are you watching her?”
“Huh?” You Xia snapped out of her thoughts.
Cheng Jianli said calmly, “Are you looking at Jiang Muyan?”
You Xia hurriedly shook her head. “No, not her! It’s…” She lowered her head, as if recalling something. “Someone else.”
When she uttered the words “someone else,” her face flushed red.
Cheng Jianli asked, “Xu Yinghe?”
You Xia looked up, stunned.
Cheng Jianli seemed to have guessed something: “Jiang Muyan told me she’s also running in the relay race.”
“Ah, r-right!” You Xia’s expression grew even more flustered. She didn’t dare look at Xu Yinghe’s retreating figure anymore, making a feeble attempt to explain, “I wasn’t planning to do anything, I just came to take a look…”
Cheng Jianli remained silent. Truthfully, apart from Jiang Muyan, she rarely conversed with friends. You Xia had once lent her and Jiang Muyan clothes on a rainy day, and they’d also met at the bar, which was why Cheng Jianli had spoken a few extra words this time.
“By the way, thank you and Jiang Muyan again for last time,” You Xia spoke up again, subtly changing the subject. “If you two hadn’t noticed my alcohol allergy at the bar, who knows what might have happened.”
Cheng Jianli replied, “It was nothing. Just what anyone would do.”
You Xia asked, “Are you here to accompany Jiang Muyan during practice?”
Cheng Jianli admitted openly, “Yes.”
You Xia’s gaze shifted nervously between them before finally asking, “Are you two, dating?”
Cheng Jianli looked surprised. “No?”
You Xia said apologetically, “Sorry, I thought you were a couple since you’re always together.”
“No,” Cheng Jianli’s heartbeat skipped briefly at the word “dating,” but she responded calmly, “I’m tutoring her, that’s why we’re together every day.”
The two sat under the tree for a while when suddenly Jiang Muyan came running over. Having given her school jacket to Cheng Jianli, she was now only wearing a black T-shirt. She called out cheerfully, “Teacher Cheng!”
Spotting You Xia, she exclaimed in surprise, “You Xia? What are you doing here?”
You Xia had always found Jiang Muyan approachable. Normally she felt timid around wealthy people coming from a poor family with a deceased father and a mother who worked as a bar cleaner, she unconsciously felt inferior at this school. But Jiang Muyan had never looked down on her for it and had always been warm toward her.
You Xia answered, “I was just walking around…”
Jiang Muyan said, “What a coincidence that you ended up sitting with Teacher Cheng.”
Xu Yinghe, who had been following behind Jiang Muyan, slowly approached as well. When she saw You Xia, she couldn’t help but frown slightly before looking away, pretending not to notice.
Cheng Jianli coughed lightly and asked Jiang Muyan, “What is it? Why did you come over?”
Jiang Muyan asked, “Aren’t you bored staying here?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “Not really.”
Jiang Muyan said shyly, “How about we go practice for the fun events?”
Cheng Jianli asked, “What fun events?”
Still blushing, Jiang Muyan continued, “The crab walk with watermelons.”
That event where you have to hold a balloon between your faces.
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Suddenly, a clear voice called from the distance, “Jiang Muyan! Xu Yinghe!”
Luo Jiajia came running over in her short skirt and threw herself at Xu Yinghe, wrapping her arms around her accusingly, “Wow! You two are so mean, coming to the back field behind my back!”
Xu Yinghe peeled Luo Jiajia off herself and said helplessly, “You’re not even participating in the sports meet. Were we supposed to call you for practice?”
Luo Jiajia was unusually excited, “I could cheer for you… Oh, isn’t this Teacher Cheng? Hello!”
Cheng Jianli responded politely, “Hello.”
Luo Jiajia didn’t know You Xia and thought she was a stranger. There were now five people standing under the tree. Jiang Muyan moved closer to Cheng Jianli again and asked hesitantly, “Teacher Cheng, are you really not going to practice with me?”
Just as Cheng Jianli was about to answer, a boy suddenly emerged from behind the tree. Staring at Cheng Jianli’s face, he said without preamble, “Hey, do you have WeChat?”
Cheng Jianli: “?”
This was the first time Cheng Jianli had seen someone so brazenly ask for contact information. Before Jiang Muyan could speak, Cheng Jianli replied, “I don’t have WeChat.”
Anyone would take this as a rejection, but Jiang Muyan knew it was true, Cheng Jianli didn’t own a smartphone.
Undeterred, the boy licked his lips and said with a lecherous grin, “I’ll present as an alpha later. If you’re an omega,”
Before he could finish, Jiang Muyan abruptly shielded Cheng Jianli behind her. “What the hell are you saying? Are you out of your mind?”
