After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 25.2
You Xia froze for a few seconds before realizing Xu Yinghe was asking why Jiang Muyan had gone to Class 1 to tell her that Xu Yinghe was waiting for her on the back field.
Lowering her head, You Xia replied, “She saw me when I went to Class 2 this morning and asked what I was doing…” A light breeze brushed past as You Xia nervously fiddled with the hem of her uniform. “I said I was looking for you, and she kindly offered to pass on the message.”
Xu Yinghe remained silent for a long while, simply staring down at the uniform in her hands before finally uttering a quiet, “Oh.”
After standing in silence for a moment, Xu Yinghe felt there was nothing more to say and turned to leave. Unexpectedly, You Xia suddenly called out, “I’ll go first.”
Xu Yinghe turned back, and You Xia gave a faint smile, murmuring vaguely, “It’s better if we leave separately…”
Xu Yinghe frowned.
Her actions were obvious, she didn’t want to be too closely associated with You Xia, nor did she want others to notice or speculate.
But You Xia’s considerate gesture left Xu Yinghe with a strange, subdued sense of guilt.
You Xia cautiously glanced at her again. Xu Yinghe’s face was fair, her almond-shaped eyes round and bright, her long lashes curving like delicate fans.
She’s really pretty, You Xia thought.
As she watched You Xia walk away, Xu Yinghe suddenly called out, “Wait.”
You Xia turned back in confusion. After a pause, Xu Yinghe said, “Never mind. Thanks for washing my uniform.”
“No need to thank me,” You Xia replied with a smile. “I’ll be going now.”
The last class of the afternoon was biology, covering the topic of the knee-jerk reflex.
Jiang Muyan had always been curious about this because, before transmigrating into the novel, Cheng Jianli had held a Ph.D. and was exceptionally studious, while Jiang Muyan struggled academically, so much so that she couldn’t even pass ordinary exams.
Once, while flipping through a magazine, Jiang Muyan had come across something about the knee-jerk reflex and asked Cheng Jianli what it was.
After Cheng Jianli patiently explained, Jiang Muyan eagerly tried it out, even tapping her own knee but no matter how she did it, her knee showed no reaction.
Now, as the biology teacher covered this topic, Jiang Muyan listened intently, convinced she must have tapped the wrong spot back then.
Or maybe her pants had been too thick, preventing any response?
Jiang Muyan was deep in thought when the school bell suddenly rang.
Class was over.
“Finally!” The students in the back row cheered, and Jiang Muyan slumped onto her desk in relief.
Cheng Jianli quietly packed up her things. Jiang Muyan asked, “Teacher Cheng, are you coming to my place for tutoring today?”
Cheng Jianli replied, “Yes, but I can’t walk home with you today.”
Jiang Muyan had planned to go home together, so she immediately sat up, bewildered. “Why not?”
“I rode my bike to pick you up from the bar last night,” Cheng Jianli explained. “I need to ride it back today.”
Jiang Muyan felt a pang of guilt and scratched her head. “Teacher Cheng, I’m sorry you had to ride your bike so late just to find me at the bar.”
“It’s fine,” Cheng Jianli said.
“Then let me go with you,” Jiang Muyan suggested. “I’ll text Uncle Liu and tell him not to pick me up.”
“That’s too much trouble,” Cheng Jianli refused. “I can manage on my own.”
“No way!” Jiang Muyan was worried about Cheng Jianli going to the bar alone. “You can ride your bike with me on the back! Maybe we’ll even become the most dazzling sight at Hongchuan Seventh High!”
She blinked playfully after saying this.
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Jiang Muyan tilted her head. “Teacher Cheng, are you upset?”
Cheng Jianli really wondered what went on in Jiang Muyan’s head. Calmly, she replied, “No.”
Jiang Muyan beamed. “Then let’s hurry up and go!”
The two left school together, but before they could reach the nearby bar, the sky suddenly darkened. Thick clouds gathered ominously, threatening a downpour.
“Please don’t tell me it’s going to rain,” Jiang Muyan muttered, eyeing the sky nervously.
“Did you bring an umbrella?” Cheng Jianli asked.
Jiang Muyan shook her head. “No.”
Cheng Jianli thought for a moment. “You should call Uncle Liu to pick you up.”
“What about you?”
“It probably won’t rain that fast. I’ll just ride my bike home,” Cheng Jianli said. “We might have to skip tutoring today, let your mom know.”
“No!” Jiang Muyan grew anxious at the thought of Cheng Jianli going alone. “Teacher Cheng, you should come home with me. What if you get soaked on your bike?”
“I doubt I’ll be that unlucky,” Cheng Jianli replied.
Jiang Muyan wouldn’t hear it. “How about this, I’ll call Uncle Liu to put your bike in the trunk, and we’ll both go to my place.”
“I can’t let you catch a cold from the rain.” She grabbed Cheng Jianli’s arm and quickened her pace.
Cheng Jianli had grown used to Jiang Muyan’s touch and let herself be pulled along. But before they could get far, a blinding flash of lightning split the sky, followed immediately by a torrential downpour that drenched them both in seconds.
Jiang Muyan: “…”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
“Did you jinx us?” Cheng Jianli turned to her with a deadpan expression.
Jiang Muyan let out an awkward laugh at the situation. “Let’s just find some shelter, hahahaha…”
Luckily, a bus stop was just ahead, and the two dashed under its cover.
The relentless downpour soaked Cheng Jianli’s upper half, her jet-black hair clinging to her snow-white nape. Her face looked ethereally cold, the peach-blossom hue of her lips made even more vivid by the rain.
After sending a text to Uncle Liu, Jiang Muyan pulled Cheng Jianli to sit down.
As she gazed at the other girl, Jiang Muyan suddenly felt an itch at the back of her neck, right beneath the band-aid. Unable to resist, she scratched it several times, catching Cheng Jianli’s attention. “What’s wrong?” Cheng asked.
“My neck feels so itchy,” Jiang Muyan replied.
“Where exactly?” Cheng Jianli frowned.
“Right under this band-aid,” Jiang Muyan said as she peeled it off, examining it curiously. “Maybe I’ve worn it too long and it’s not breathing?”
Cheng Jianli suppressed a laugh. “Who told you to wear it all the time?”
“Because I wanted to match with you,” Jiang Muyan admitted frankly. “But why does it still itch after removing it? Feels like something’s back there.”
Cheng Jianli froze momentarily.
The nape… Could Jiang Muyan be undergoing differentiation?
Whether omega or alpha, the first sign of differentiation was gland development. During this process, the neck might frequently feel feverish, itchy, or even painful, all caused by the concentrated pheromones filling the new gland.
Cheng Jianli studied Jiang Muyan’s rain-drenched form.
With her long lashes, porcelain skin nearly poreless, Jiang Muyan possessed the features of a great beauty. Yet somehow, Cheng always overlooked her prettiness, instead seeing only an air of kindness, innocence, and… extreme gullibility.
In other words, she’d never met anyone so simple-minded.
As Jiang Muyan pondered over the band-aid, Cheng decided to explain. “Jiang Muyan, actually this band-aid.”
“I’ve got it!” Jiang Muyan suddenly turned, eyes sparkling like stars.
“Got what?” Cheng asked.
Blushing, Jiang Muyan whispered, “Could I be… growing a brain?”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Taking a deep breath, Cheng deadpanned, “Your brain grows from your neck?”
“Is that impossible?” Jiang Muyan mused. “I heard human brains resemble walnuts. Maybe it’s possible?”
“Do you know average human IQ ranges between 85-115?” Cheng’s lips twitched. “Even elephants score around 70.”
Jiang Muyan gasped. “Elephants have 70 IQ?!”
Baffled by this mental leap, Cheng Jianli: “…”
“Indeed,” Cheng said. “You’ll need to work harder to outsmart an elephant.”
Their conversation continued as the rain intensified, crystalline drops forming puddles on the ground.
Suddenly, Jiang Muyan’s phone rang, Uncle Liu calling.
“Why’s Uncle Liu phoning?” Puzzled, she answered, “Uncle Liu, have you arrived?”
“Miss, I’m sorry, but I might not make it in time,” Uncle Liu’s voice came through the phone amidst a cacophony of car horns, his tone urgent. “There’s a heavy storm right now, and the roads are completely jammed. The chairman and madam are worried you’ll get soaked, so they’re preparing to send a helicopter to pick you up.”
“Uncle Liu, hold on a second,” Jiang Muyan covered the phone receiver and asked carefully, “Teacher Cheng, would you like to take a helicopter?”
Cheng Jianli: “……?”
“Let’s not,” Cheng Jianli said seriously, deeply impressed by the Jiang Group’s financial power. “That’s a bit too extravagant for me.”
Jiang Muyan nodded and spoke into the phone, “Uncle Liu, no need for the helicopter. I love getting drenched in the rain, just let me stay soaked, hahahaha!”
Cheng Jianli: “Hearing you say that makes me think you should just take the helicopter and go…”
Jiang Muyan gave her a strange look. “How could I possibly leave you alone?”
Just then, a girl’s voice suddenly spoke up beside them: “Are… you Jiang Muyan?”
Jiang Muyan turned and realized it was the girl who had been standing at the door of Class 2 that morning. She exclaimed in surprise, “You Xia?”
You Xia was holding a transparent umbrella. She smiled and said, “It really is you. I thought I might have mistaken you for someone else.”
After telling Uncle Liu she would wait for him there and hanging up, Jiang Muyan turned back to You Xia. “What a coincidence running into you here… Oh, this is Cheng Jianli, my deskmate.”
Though it was her first time meeting Cheng Jianli, You Xia had heard her name many times, the top-ranked senior in their grade, with a cool, elegant beauty, the school’s flower.
“Hello,” Cheng Jianli greeted first with a slight nod.
You Xia tightened her grip on the umbrella handle, flustered by the unexpected courtesy. “Hello, I’m You Xia.”
Cheng Jianli’s voice… is so gentle, You Xia thought.
“Are you heading home?” Jiang Muyan glanced up at the sky. “With rain this heavy, even with an umbrella, you should wait for it to lighten up.”
“I’m waiting for my mom to get off work. She’s a cleaner at the bar…” You Xia said. Then, noticing how drenched they both were, she added, “Why are you both so soaked? Your uniforms are completely wet. You should come with me to the staff changing room to get some dry clothes.”
“Are you sure that’s alright?” Cheng Jianli admitted she was feeling a bit chilly, the wind making it worse.
“Of course! Though the clothes are mine,” You Xia said softly. “If you don’t mind…”
“Why would we mind? We’re so grateful. I was really worried Teacher Cheng might catch a cold,” Jiang Muyan, ever straightforward, immediately took off her school jacket and held it over Cheng Jianli’s head. “Teacher Cheng, let’s borrow the staff changing room for a bit.”
Cheng Jianli gave a soft “Mm” and said to You Xia, “Thank you.”
“No problem, come with me.”
The two followed You Xia into the bar’s staff changing room.
The room was cramped, cluttered with unused furniture. You Xia fetched a few clean clothes and handed them to Jiang Muyan. “Hurry and change. I’ll wait outside.”
With that, You Xia left.
Now, the small space held only the two of them quiet, stifling.
Cheng Jianli’s hair, shoulders, and pants were all wet, rainwater dripping from her pale cheeks. Her clear, shimmering eyes met Jiang Muyan’s, and suddenly, Jiang Muyan felt her face grow warm.
She hadn’t noticed it at the bus stop earlier, but now she realized how beautiful and adorable her wife looked all drenched like this.
“What’s wrong?” Cheng Jianli asked curiously.
Jiang Muyan snapped out of her daze at the reminder: “N-nothing, you should change out of those wet clothes quickly so you don’t catch a cold.”
Cheng Jianli: “Mm.”
Jiang Muyan’s hair was also wet. Without a care, she took off her school uniform and sweatshirt, revealing fair, rounded shoulders before slipping into the clothes Youxia had given her. Turning back, she asked, “Teacher Cheng, why aren’t you changing yet?”
Cheng Jianli tightened her grip on the hem of her school uniform.
Change clothes in front of Jiang Muyan?
Although Jiang Muyan was the same gender and would eventually differentiate into an omega, so changing in front of her shouldn’t be a problem, but…
Something about it just didn’t feel right.
Cheng Jianli hesitated, fingers clutching the zipper of her uniform, unable to proceed.
“Oh, I get it, the clothes are still with me,” Jiang Muyan handed the dry clothes to Cheng Jianli, “Here, change quickly.”
