After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 21
Jiang Muyan went to fetch the heatstroke medicine and placed it on Cheng Jianli’s desk. “Teacher Cheng, don’t forget to take this twice today,” she reminded.
“Thank you,” Cheng Jianli replied, “but I think I’m fine now.”
“Better take it anyway. It’s so hot out, you wouldn’t want to get heatstroke again.”
Jiang Muyan noticed that Cheng Jianli seemed reluctant to take medicine. Was it too bitter?
Just as she was pondering this, someone called from outside the classroom: “Miss Jiang, come out for a second!”
It was Tang Yu’s voice. Jiang Muyan turned and walked to the door, puzzled. “What brings you here?”
Tang Yu, still brimming with energy after playing basketball, said, “You took the class rep to the infirmary earlier, right? The P.E. teacher sent me to check if everything’s okay.”
Jiang Muyan nodded. “It’s fine. The doctor said it was heatstroke and already prescribed medicine.”
“Good,” Tang Yu said, peeking into Class 2 and spotting Cheng Jianli studying quietly by the window. “Oh, by the way, you came in first for the 800-meter run today. The P.E. teacher had me report your name.”
“Don’t tell me I actually have to compete in the sports meet,” Jiang Muyan groaned. “I hate competitions.”
“Relax, it’s still a long way off,” Tang Yu teased. “Or are you worried the other runners will cry if you win?”
Jiang Muyan deadpanned, “Not at all.”
“Just kidding,” Tang Yu laughed. “Anyway, I just came to check. I’ve got to head to the admin office now.”
Jiang Muyan frowned. “What for?”
“Xu Yinghe somehow lost her uniform and asked me to help buy a new one.”
Uniform?
Jiang Muyan thought back earlier, Xu Yinghe had given hers to another girl.
She hadn’t paid much attention to the girl’s face or name, only recalling that she seemed extremely shy.
After exchanging a few more words with Tang Yu, Jiang Muyan returned to the classroom. Cheng Jianli had already taken the medicine and said, “I just looked over your math test. You did poorly, some fundamentals aren’t even solid.”
Jiang Muyan was surprised Cheng Jianli had reviewed her test in such a short time.
Seems my wife really cares about me, hehe.
She sat down and asked seriously, “Which fundamentals? Don’t tell me it’s trigonometry?”
Cheng Jianli paused for a second. “Is trigonometry the only math you’ve learned? Do you also stop at ‘abandon’ when memorizing English words?”
Jiang Muyan: “…”
Abandon. That word sounded familiar.
Cheng Jianli continued, “Actually, English is the easiest subject to improve quickly. Just memorize a lot of vocabulary. Without knowing the words, no amount of test-taking strategies will help.”
“As for math, I’ll summarize each chapter when I tutor you this weekend. Start by memorizing the formulas.”
Seeing how meticulous Cheng Jianli was, Jiang Muyan nodded eagerly. “Got it.”
Cheng Jianli gave her a light glance. “No slacking off this week, understand? The monthly exam is coming up.”
Jiang Muyan pouted. “Okay…”
Cheng Jianli handed her a blank sheet of paper. “Set a goal first like what score you want to achieve and what rank you’re aiming for.”
“Do I have to?” Jiang Muyan hated planning more than anything.
Cheng Jianli said firmly, “Without a goal, there’s no motivation.”
Blushing, Jiang Muyan murmured, “Who says? My biggest motivation is getting to study with you every week.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
Jiang Muyan always spoke in such a strange way that it left Cheng Jianli at a loss for words.
Seeing no response, Jiang Muyan leaned closer until their faces were mere inches apart. She could clearly see the rosy hue of the other girl’s lips as she asked in confusion, “Why aren’t you saying anything, Teacher Cheng?”
“Nothing,” Cheng Jianli shook her head. “Go correct the mistakes on your math test.”
Time flew by. Counting carefully, Jiang Muyan had already been transferred to Class 2 for several weeks. She had grown accustomed to life here, and under Cheng Jianli’s orders, she finally completed her study schedule for the new week.
Given her previously poor grades, Cheng Jianli didn’t push her too hard, only requiring her to score above 450 points on the monthly exam and rank within the top 500 in her grade.
After physics class that day, the girl sitting behind Jiang Muyan asked if she wanted to go to the school store. Their relationship wasn’t particularly close, but after three consecutive classes, Jiang Muyan was genuinely hungry.
Just as she was about to leave her seat, Cheng Jianli suddenly grabbed her uniform sleeve. “Where are you going?”
“To the store,” Jiang Muyan replied.
The girl accompanying Jiang Muyan had previously given Cheng Jianli trouble over homework assignments. Now she wore a pink heart-shaped hair clip and carried a cartoon wallet, looking rather smug.
Cheng Jianli said firmly, “No. Stay and memorize vocabulary.”
She required Jiang Muyan to study one unit of vocabulary daily.
“Teacher Cheng, I’m just going to buy snacks,” Jiang Muyan said ingratiatingly. “Do you want anything? I’ll get it for you.”
“I don’t eat snacks. Sit down and study your words,” Cheng Jianli repeated.
Jiang Muyan had no choice but to tell the girl, “I’m not going.”
The girl was stunned. “Why not?”
“I need to memorize vocabulary.”
“Why listen to her?” The girl pouted and reached for Jiang Muyan’s arm. “Come on, let’s go together.”
Jiang Muyan ignored her. After standing there awkwardly for a moment, the girl finally shot Cheng Jianli a glare before leaving.
After she was gone, Cheng Jianli looked at Jiang Muyan, who showed no signs of resentment at being stopped. Instead, she quickly flipped open her vocabulary book. “Teacher Cheng, is it Unit 12 today?”
“Yes.”
“Then you have to come to my house tonight to quiz me,” Jiang Muyan said.
“Tonight isn’t tutoring time. I can’t go.”
Jiang Muyan let out a disappointed “Oh.”
“Do you really want to go to the store?” Cheng Jianli asked casually.
“No, not at all,” Jiang Muyan immediately replied. “My heart belongs only to studying now.”
A faint smile tugged at Cheng Jianli’s lips. “Actually, you can have some reasonable free time.”
After two seconds of hesitation, Jiang Muyan asked cautiously, “Really?”
“Yes. Just ask for leave in advance.”
Jiang Muyan pretended to be shy. “Actually… I really did want to ask for leave recently…”
“What for?”
“My old friends from Class 1, Luo Jiajia and Xu Yinghe,” Jiang Muyan explained. “Tomorrow night is Jiajia’s birthday, and we wanted to go out to celebrate.”
Luo Jiajia had been pestering her about this for days, threatening to be angry if Jiang Muyan didn’t come. Since Jiang Muyan genuinely liked this friend, she decided to bring it up with Cheng Jianli.
Cheng Jianli remembered both girls, one had brought her water on the sports field, while the other had struck up a conversation with Jiang Muyan when she was being punished by standing outside.
“Then go ahead,” Cheng Jianli said. “I’ll tell your mom tomorrow night that I won’t be coming over.”
Jiang Muyan thought for a moment. “Then tomorrow, I’ll have Uncle Liu drive you home first.”
“It’s fine, I can go home by myself,” Cheng Jianli glanced at her. “Hurry up and memorize your vocabulary.”
