After Transmigrating into a Ridiculous Alpha, I Saved My Aloof Omega Wife - Chapter 19
Jiang Muyan slipped the cooling patch into her pocket and returned to the back field with Xu Yinghe.
Under the scorching sun, the third group was already running their 800-meter race.
Jiang Muyan scanned the crowd, searching for Cheng Jianli, but for some reason, she couldn’t spot her.
Just as she was puzzled, she suddenly overheard some classmates talking ahead:
“Did someone just pass out from heatstroke?”
“Yeah, it was so sudden, just collapsed out of nowhere…”
“Who was it? A guy or a girl?”
“Pretty sure it was a girl. She must’ve been exhausted after finishing the 800-meter. I didn’t even notice who it was…”
Alarmed, Jiang Muyan immediately worried it might be Cheng Jianli. She quickly turned to Xu Yinghe and said, “I’m going to check.”
Without waiting for Xu Yinghe’s response, she rushed toward the commotion.
A crowd had gathered around the gym teacher. Jiang Muyan pushed through and anxiously looked down.
Sure enough, it was Cheng Jianli lying there. She didn’t know when she had fainted, but her cheeks were flushed, her forehead dotted with fine beads of sweat, her entire body lying weakly on the ground.
Students hovered nearby, startled by her sudden collapse. The gym teacher called out, “Someone help carry her to the infirmary!”
Jiang Muyan thought it must’ve been because Cheng Jianli was wearing too many layers, she must’ve overheated during the run. She bent down, scooped her up, and gently shook her. “Teacher Cheng, are you okay?”
Cheng Jianli remained unconscious, unresponsive.
Jiang Muyan turned to the gym teacher. “I’ll take her to the infirmary!”
The teacher started to say, “Get a few more people to—”
But Jiang Muyan didn’t wait. She immediately carried Cheng Jianli toward the infirmary.
The girl in her arms was light, like a soft feather. Jiang Muyan faintly caught the subtle scent of mango from the nape of Cheng Jianli’s neck, but she didn’t dwell on it, her only concern was whether Cheng Jianli was alright.
Fortunately, the infirmary wasn’t far. By the time Jiang Muyan arrived, Cheng Jianli still hadn’t woken up. The doctor on duty was an elderly man with a kind face.
He checked Cheng Jianli’s forehead and asked Jiang Muyan, “Does she have any preexisting conditions?”
Jiang Muyan shook her head. “No.”
“With weather this hot, it’s probably heatstroke,” the doctor said, clearly experienced in handling such cases. He had Cheng Jianli lie down on the bed. “Don’t worry. Just cool her down with a damp towel and wait for her to wake up.”
Jiang Muyan exhaled in relief. “Thank you, Doctor.”
Thank goodness, thank goodness. As long as my wife is okay.
She was just glad Cheng Jianli only had heatstroke. If she had some strange illness like Jiang Muyan’s unstable system, things would’ve been much worse.
The doctor left to fetch anti-heatstroke medicine while Jiang Muyan sat on the stool beside the bed, watching Cheng Jianli’s profile.
Her cheeks were still slightly flushed from the heat, but she was as beautiful as ever, her eyes closed, long lashes casting delicate shadows, lips a vivid shade of pink, skin smooth and soft.
Following the doctor’s instructions, Jiang Muyan placed a cool towel on Cheng Jianli’s forehead, replacing it every few minutes.
About ten minutes later, Cheng Jianli regained consciousness. She groggily opened her eyes just as Jiang Muyan was replacing the ice towel on her forehead. Seeing her awake, Jiang exclaimed happily, “Teacher Cheng, you’re awake!”
Cheng Jianli blinked several times with effort before fully opening her eyes. Her whole body felt weak, her head was pounding, and only her forehead felt slightly cool from the compress.
The blurry figure before her gradually came into focus, it was Jiang Muyan.
Coming to her senses, Cheng mumbled, “Where… is this place…?”
“This is the infirmary. You got heatstroke during PE class,” Jiang Muyan explained. “I rushed you here immediately.”
The infirmary?
Cheng Jianli blinked slowly.
She remembered barely finishing the 800-meter run before her legs gave out. She’d tried to tough it out but eventually blacked out…
So she’d suffered heatstroke.
Looking down, she noticed the ice towel in Jiang Muyan’s hand and realized the girl had been tending to her this whole time.
A warm feeling rose in Cheng’s chest, plucking gently at the taut strings of her heart.
Jiang had helped her again. In all her life, she’d rarely encountered someone as genuinely kind as Jiang Muyan.
Suppressing her discomfort, Cheng whispered, “Thank you.”
“No need, no need,” Jiang stood up. “Were you pushing yourself too hard? How did you get heatstroke?”
“Probably just the hot weather,” Cheng replied vaguely.
Jiang nodded thoughtfully. “Right, it’s really scorching today.”
“Does the ice towel help?” Jiang asked with visible concern. “The nurse went to get heatstroke medicine, but it might take a while.”
Mild heatstroke usually passed with rest. “I’m fine now. Thank you,” Cheng said.
“No need to thank me,” Jiang replied cheerfully. “You’re already working so hard tutoring me. It’s only right that I help you too.”
With no one else in the infirmary, sunlight streamed through the curtain gaps as they looked at each other. Cheng’s fingers twitched slightly. “But I got the impression you didn’t enjoy our tutoring sessions.”
“I didn’t… at first,” Jiang admitted sheepishly. “But when it’s you teaching me, it’s… actually not bad.”
The sincerity in Jiang’s voice made it impossible to doubt.
Yet Cheng remembered that phone call from Jiang’s mother on the field, and all those strange requirements Jiang had proposed.
Alone together, time seemed to slow between them.
“If you didn’t like it initially, why ask your mother to hire a tutor?” Cheng’s lashes fluttered lightly. “Those conditions you set were rather peculiar.”
After some thought, Jiang decided to be honest. “Because I wanted to transfer classes.”
“To Class 2?” Cheng looked up. “Class 2’s curriculum is quite advanced.”
Jiang declared, “I know. I absolutely adore Class 2’s learning atmosphere.”
Cheng Jianli: “…”
“Is that so?” A faint smile tugged at Cheng’s lips as she couldn’t resist calling her out. “Then who was it who refused to do any math problems last Friday night?”
“Who said that?” Jiang mumbled without conviction. “I did a hundred practice sheets over the weekend…”
When Cheng didn’t respond, Jiang studied her for a moment before asking, “Teacher Cheng, can I ask you something?”
Unsure what to expect, Cheng replied, “Go ahead.”
Jiang Muyan hesitated for a long moment before cautiously asking, “Do you have scars on your arms? Otherwise, why wouldn’t you take off your school uniform in such hot weather?”
Cheng Jianli: “…That’s what you wanted to ask?”
“Yeah,” Jiang Muyan said earnestly. “Otherwise you wouldn’t have gotten heatstroke.”
Cheng Jianli remained silent.
Seeing no response, Jiang Muyan continued, “But don’t worry, even if you have scars, I won’t laugh at you. I hate people who judge others by appearance the most.”
“In elementary school, I had a classmate whose calf was scalded by boiling water, leaving a large scar. She never dared to wear skirts. The principal’s son was particularly nasty, calling her ugly. I got so angry I punched him twice.”
Cheng Jianli: “And then?”
Jiang Muyan: “Then I got called to the principal’s office. My dad thought I did nothing wrong, so he withdrew funding and transferred me out.”
“? Withdrew funding and transferred you?”
“Yeah, it was a private school. My dad was on the board,” Jiang Muyan said regretfully. “And then the school went bankrupt a few years later.”
Cheng Jianli: “…Your dad is really good to you.”
“I think so too,” Jiang Muyan nodded, then vowed solemnly, “So don’t worry, no matter what, I’ll always think you’re beautiful.”
