After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 9
Ling Jixiao knew all of this was just her conjecture, not necessarily the truth.
If her conjecture turned out to be true, she would never shield Ling Jingxi.
After hanging up with Grandpa Ling, Ling Jixiao pondered for a few seconds before calling Ling Jingxi.
“Hello, Mother,” Ling Jingxi’s respectful voice came from the other end.
“Yes, Uncle Qi just told me you drank a lot last night,” Ling Jixiao asked, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel.
Ling Jingxi was silent for two seconds before apologizing, “Mother, I’m sorry. I won’t drink again.”
“It’s understandable to drink a little to relieve stress when you’re upset. Don’t worry about it, but take care of yourself and don’t drink too much,” Ling Jixiao said calmly.
Hearing the concern in Ling Jixiao’s voice, Ling Jingxi’s tone brightened slightly. “Okay, I understand.”
“Where did you go last night?” Ling Jixiao asked casually, as if it were a passing question.
“After having a few drinks, Young Master Zhang invited me out for some fun and sent someone to pick me up, so I went,” Ling Jingxi replied obediently.
“Hmm, got it. Don’t party too hard and take care of yourself,” Ling Jixiao said, not sensing anything amiss with Ling Jingxi. Thinking she might have been overthinking things, she offered a few more words of concern before hanging up.
After hanging up the phone, Ling Jingxi finally let out a sigh of relief. Young Master Zhang, who was sitting beside him, casually patted him on the shoulder. “I told you it would be fine. No one will find out. Don’t you trust my work?”
“Alright, thanks!” Ling Jingxi managed a smile.
Yesterday, he had been awarded at school and showered with praise from his classmates, leaving him feeling elated. He never expected that when Grandpa Ling called him back, he would be met with a scathing lecture about why he had only come in second place instead of first.
Ling Jingxi bristled with resentment. Why was he being reprimanded for coming in second? He saw this as deliberate targeting. Ever since being adopted by Ling Jixiao, Grandpa Ling had always looked down on him—simply because he wasn’t related by blood.
In truth, Grandpa Ling wasn’t deliberately targeting Ling Jingxi. It was simply that Ling Jixiao had been so outstanding in the past that his standards had become unreasonably high.
The young man’s anger and resentment grew wildly in his heart, suffocating him with long-suppressed resentment. Ling Jingxi began drinking heavily, demanding his friends come out and relax with him, and eventually drove away drunk.
Under the influence of alcohol, Ling Jingxi was enjoying the thrill of speeding when he suddenly hit two people, sending them flying into the roadside bushes and greenery.
The impact sobered him up instantly. Panicking, he quickly drove away.
Since Ling Jingxi was still a student with no connections, he turned to his shady friend, Young Master Zhang, for help.
Young Master Zhang was a notorious playboy, skilled in indulgence and vices, and well-versed in underhanded schemes.
Though Ling Jingxi was young and lacked resources, he was the heir to the Ling family. Convinced that hitting a couple of people wasn’t a big deal and seeing an opportunity to curry favor, Young Master Zhang agreed to handle the road surveillance and the damaged vehicle.
As long as no influential figures investigated, and after a word to his uncle, the police chief, the matter would be settled.
“Young Master Ling, after all I’ve done for you, you owe me a thank you!” Young Master Zhang slung an arm around Ling Jingxi’s shoulders.
Suppressing his disgust, Ling Jingxi forced a smile. “Let’s go to the S.S. Club. My treat tonight.”
“Sounds good!” Young Master Zhang grinned.
Young Master Zhang had a lot of shady friends. He immediately called a few of them to go to the S.S Club for some fun. Because he was lazy and only cared about eating, drinking, and having fun, his grades were bad. He only had a degree from a foreign university, not A University, and was a few years older than Ling Jingxi.
The group walked out of the dormitory, arms slung over each other’s shoulders, and ran right into a group of students returning to the dormitory after class.
Qin Yue was among them.
Ling Jingxi immediately saw Qin Yue. Seeing the woman he was obsessed with laughing so brightly with her friends made his heart ache.
Young Master Zhang noticed Ling Jingxi’s gaze and looked in that direction, spotting Qin Yue, Bai Zhi, and Li Nuonuo—the three dorm mates.
“These three O’s don’t look bad,” he said, his lips curling as his eyes sized up their faces and figures.
Noticing Young Master Zhang’s lecherous look at Qin Yue, a dark shadow flashed in Ling Jingxi’s eyes before quickly fading. “Brother Zhang, the one on the far left is my target…”
“Oh? You wouldn’t have guessed that! Young Master Ling likes this type!” Young Master Zhang replied in surprise. “Haven’t you gotten her yet?”
He watched as Qin Yue and her friends noticed Ling Jingxi but pretended not to see him as they walked past.
“Brother Zhang, don’t you think it’s more fun to gradually lure prey into a trap, making them willingly stay and never want to escape?” Ling Jingxi replied with a confident smile.
“Haha, you sure know how to play, Young Master Ling!” Young Master Zhang slapped Ling Jingxi on the shoulder, laughing heartily. “But I can definitely help you with this!”
Ling Jingxi truly enjoyed the chase, relishing the satisfaction of watching his prey gradually fall for him. But Qin Yue’s resistance left him feeling frustrated.
He wasn’t against using force outright, but two factors held him back. First, Grandpa Ling had recently chewed him out several times. Any further missteps could anger the old man enough to disinherit him, which he couldn’t risk.
Second, while he had money, he lacked connections and real power. Young Master Zhang was different; the Zhang family would always cover for him, no matter what he did. Ling Jingxi had no such backing. Ling Jixiao, his mother, wouldn’t protect him if he broke the law; instead, she’d likely hand him over to the police.
The thought made Ling Jingxi grind his teeth in fury.
Since they raised me, why don’t they treat me like true Ling family blood? One day, I’ll seize all power in the Minghui Group and kick them all out!
“Great! I’ll owe you one, Brother Zhang!” Ling Jingxi narrowed his eyes, watching Qin Yue’s retreating figure, a smirk curling his lips.
When Qin Yue left class, she saw Ling Jingxi again and silently cursed him for being like a stubborn ghost that wouldn’t go away.
Li Nuonuo kept glancing at Ling Jingxi. After all, he was the universally acknowledged campus heartthrob of the freshman class—rich, handsome, and academically decent.
Unfortunately, Ling Jingxi kept staring at Qin Yue, making Li Nuonuo feel a surge of jealousy.
I’m not inferior to Qin Yue! Why isn’t Ling Jingxi interested in me? I want to be pursued by an excellent Alpha too!
Qin Yue ignored Ling Jingxi. Seeing that the male lead wasn’t clinging to her like usual sticky tape, she figured her previous coldness must have had an effect.
She had no classes in the afternoon, so after lunch, she took the bus to her part-time job.
On her day off, Lin Le Ran visited Grandma Li at Xixing Sanatorium.
During her first visit, Grandma Li was unconscious, sitting quietly in bed and staring blankly out the window.
But as Lin Le Ran watched, she began to cry.
The once cheerful and healthy Grandma Li was now skin and bones, her face etched with weathered lines. It was impossible not to feel the sorrow of how things had changed.
During her second visit, Grandma Li regained consciousness for a moment and recognized her as the little girl she once knew.
Qin Yue watched from the side, feeling both pleased and resentful of fate’s cruelty to Grandma Li.
Before leaving that day, Qin Yue checked on Grandma Li one last time. Grandma Li took her hand and whispered softly, “Thank you.”
The next day, Qin Yue received a call from Grandma Qin at school, informing her that Grandma Li had passed away.
Since Grandma Li had no family, the nursing home arranged her funeral.
After hanging up, Qin Yue hugged Bai Zhi and cried.
At least Grandma Li was happy now, having finally escaped the clutches of her illness and leaving no regrets in her life.
Days passed one by one, and Qin Yue never saw Ling Jixiao again.
Occasionally, late at night when silence reigned, Qin Yue would think of that mint-flavored woman, a faint tremor stirring in her heart, as if those two encounters had been nothing more than a dream.
She couldn’t say she enjoyed it; it had certainly felt good. But to say she resented the woman would also be true; there was indeed a trace of resentment. Though she hadn’t demanded responsibility, the other party had truly hidden and avoided it.
As for Ling Jixiao, that good person, Qin Yue did feel a sliver of fondness. But that couldn’t justify taking the initiative. She knew all too well that they belonged to different worlds, separated by their living conditions and financial circumstances.
Besides, Qin Yue’s sole desire now was to stay far away from the Male Lead and cling to her own life.
Why do other transmigrated characters always end up as wealthy, influential young ladies, or protagonists blessed with special abilities or systems? Why was she just an ordinary, penniless student?
Qin Yue sighed.
She finished cleaning the coffee shop, locked the doors, and slung her small backpack over her shoulder as she walked toward the bus stop.
It was her last shift of the day. Though it wasn’t late, the sky had already darkened, the moon hidden, and only a scattering of stars visible.
Qin Yue looked up at the brightest stars, remembering the day she’d been frightened by someone tailing her and had fled down an alley, where she’d encountered the mint-scented woman.
The scene now seemed eerily similar, lacking only the woman who’d forcibly taken her away.
Amused by her wild imagination, Qin Yue chuckled to herself and strode toward the bus stop.
Just around the corner, a hand suddenly grabbed her, pulling her into a dark alley. Another hand clamped over her mouth and nose.
Qin Yue’s heart sank. Damn, I jinxed myself!
“Mmmph… mmmph…” She struggled desperately, but her captor was too strong.
“Heh heh, what luck! Caught a little beauty today,” a sleazy male voice whispered in Qin Yue’s ear, sending shivers down her spine like cold, multi-legged insects crawling over her skin.
“Let me smell what you taste like!” The man leaned in behind Qin Yue, biting at her Suppressant Patch as if deliberately savoring the moment, tearing it off bit by bit.
Realizing what was happening, Qin Yue felt a wave of disgust wash over her. Her stomach churned violently, threatening to expel last night’s dinner. She pounded the man behind her, desperate to escape, but her frail body was no match for his brute strength.
The acrid smell of the man’s sweat invaded her nostrils, making her retch violently until tears streamed down her face. This angered the man, who growled, “You little bitch! How dare you reject me? Just wait until you’re begging me to fuck you!”
As he spoke, the man began emitting the pheromones of a stone oak tree. The scent was both fishy and foul, and while Qin Yue had always disliked it, the circumstances now made it even more repulsive. Yet her body reacted instinctively, her heart pounding with primal fear.
Surrounded by the Alpha’s pheromones, Qin Yue’s body began to weaken. The man was forcing her into an early heat period.
Her mind raced, desperately searching for a way out, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t figure out what to do.
As the man began unbuttoning her clothes and loosened his grip, Qin Yue seized the opportunity and bit down hard on his wrist with all her might.
“Ah!” The man’s hand went slack from the pain, and Qin Yue immediately bolted.
Surrounded by surveillance cameras, all she needed was to encounter a passerby and ask them to call the police. Then she’d be safe!
“Damn it! I’m gonna ruin you!” The man’s enraged voice echoed behind her.
Qin Yue’s legs felt weak, but she gritted her teeth and kept running. She knew it was only a matter of time before he caught her, so she could only pray someone would help her.
As the man closed in, reaching out to grab her, Qin Yue’s pupils constricted.
“Let her go!” A sudden voice rang out.
