After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 8
“Stop! Stop the car! Help! Help me save someone!” Qin Yue shouted, frantically waving at the approaching vehicle.
When the driver got out, Qin Yue didn’t even look up. She kept dialing the emergency number, her hands still trembling from the earlier scare, and said, “Someone’s been hit. They’re in the bushes over there…”
Her hands were shaking, perhaps also because her phone had been dropped earlier and wouldn’t open.
“Don’t panic,” a familiar, cool voice said from above, like a warm current that instantly calmed Qin Yue’s nerves.
She looked up in surprise. “It’s you!”
Ling Jixiao was equally surprised to see Qin Yue here so late, but she knew saving the person came first. Without asking questions, she bent down, took a phone from the car, and called the police and ambulance.
The emergency services said they’d arrive soon.
Ling Jixiao hung up and crossed the street to check on the injured person.
Only then did Qin Yue notice Ling Jixiao’s dark purple dress and the women’s jacket draped over her shoulders. She must have just come from a party.
Under the dim yellow streetlight, Ling Jixiao, dressed in formal attire and carefully groomed, looked stunning. Her dark purple gown lent her an air of cool mystery, like a queen of the night, captivating Qin Yue’s gaze.
With Ling Jixiao by her side, Qin Yue miraculously felt no panic.
Ling Jixiao quickly surveyed the scene, her brow furrowing slightly. “He’s in a bad way,” she said. “All this blood suggests an open wound. We shouldn’t move him.”
Qin Yue continued to stare at Ling Jixiao, dazed.
“Don’t worry,” Ling Jixiao said, seeing Qin Yue’s silent gaze. “The ambulance will be here soon.”
“Okay,” Qin Yue nodded.
Just as she spoke, the wail of an ambulance pierced the air.
Soon, paramedics arrived, began administering first aid, and prepared to transport the injured man to the ambulance.
“There should be another person,” Qin Yue blurted out urgently, her eyes wide.
Though she had only seen the middle-aged man with twisted legs, the original book clearly stated that Ye Tiantian’s parents had been hit by a car. That meant there had to be two victims.
Earlier, the darkness and deserted surroundings had frightened Qin Yue, preventing her from searching further.
Hearing this, the paramedics immediately dispatched a team to investigate. They soon found a woman further away, her head bleeding profusely from a collision with a rock. She was unconscious, her condition critical.
As the ambulance prepared to leave, Qin Yue hesitated, wondering whether to follow.
She had arrived as quickly as she could and done everything she could to help. She hoped the woman’s parents would survive, but now there was nothing more she could do.
Ling Jixiao noticed Qin Yue’s anxiety and assumed she knew the injured people. She patted Qin Yue’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. Get in the car. I’ll take you there.”
Qin Yue saw Ling Jixiao gesturing for her to get in the car and realized the misunderstanding. She quickly waved her hand. “No, no, I just happened to be passing by.”
“Passing by? Here?” Ling Jixiao frowned.
An Omega out in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night? It just didn’t make sense.
“This…” Qin Yue didn’t know how to explain herself. She couldn’t exactly say she had a premonition and rushed over to save them, but that sounded like a wild fantasy no one would believe.
Qin Yue’s hesitant manner made Ling Jixiao suspicious. Could Qin Yue have brought a rich boyfriend or girlfriend home, only to have an argument and been abandoned here?
Ling Jixiao narrowed her eyes, her aura turning colder and making Qin Yue feel uneasy.
Just then, police cars arrived, easing the tension between them.
The police arrived to investigate the scene, and as the first witnesses, Qin Yue and Ling Jixiao had to go to the police station to give their statements.
So Ling Jixiao and Qin Yue followed the police to the station.
It was already midnight, and by the time they left the police station, it was past midnight. The dormitory had long been closed, and Qin Yue was considering whether to just find a random internet café to crash for the night.
“Your school is probably closed by now. I have a guest room. Would you like to stay over?” Ling Jixiao suggested calmly, though no one could tell how her heart was racing.
“Ah, but…” Qin Yue hesitated. After all, they’d only met twice and weren’t close. And Ling Jixiao had already helped her twice. Asking to stay at her home again would be too much trouble.
Seeing Qin Yue about to refuse, Ling Jixiao adopted a negotiating stance and listed her reasons: “It’s very late, and the dormitory is closed. Disturbing your roommates and the dormitory auntie wouldn’t be good, but it’s not safe for an Omega to stay out alone. I happen to have a guest room, and we already know each other…”
Ling Jixiao’s reasons left Qin Yue unable to refuse, though she still felt something was slightly off. Confused, she followed Ling Jixiao into the car.
Ling Jixiao first texted the Old Residence Steward, saying she wouldn’t be returning just yet, and took Qin Yue to her usual apartment.
Because she needed to work, Ling Jixiao’s usual apartment wasn’t far from Minghui Group, located near the city center.
Qin Yue was dazed. By the time she realized what was happening, she was already inside Ling Jixiao’s apartment.
It would be a lie to say Ling Jixiao wasn’t nervous. After all, there’s a difference between someone who’s experienced intimacy and someone who hasn’t. She subconsciously anticipated what might happen, but her rational mind knew Qin Yue didn’t recognize her, and nothing could happen while Qin Yue was fully awake.
It was late, and Qin Yue stifled a small yawn, rubbing her eyes in a cute manner. She watched Ling Jixiao lick her slightly dry lips.
The guest room didn’t have a private bathroom, so Ling Jixiao told Qin Yue to use the one outside to wash up, mentioning there were clean towels and disposable underwear in the cabinet.
After Qin Yue went into the bathroom, Ling Jixiao suppressed her wild thoughts and returned to her own bedroom to wash up.
When Ling Jixiao finished her bath and came out, Qin Yue had already washed up and gone to the guest room.
The guest room door hadn’t been fully closed, and a dim yellow light peeked out from the crack like a hook, tempting anyone with wild thoughts.
Ling Jixiao thought for a moment, then went to the kitchen in her nightgown, filled a glass with warm water, and knocked on the guest room door.
Qin Yue was just about to turn off the light and go to sleep when she heard the knock. Still half-asleep, she got up again and opened the door.
“You must be thirsty after all that work,” Ling Jixiao said, handing her the glass of water.
“Thank you, Sister!” Qin Yue realized she was parched and gulped down the water in one go.
“It’s nothing,” Ling Jixiao said with a slight smile, taking back the empty glass. She turned and left without hesitation.
“Sister…” Qin Yue’s voice was soft and sleepy, like a feather brushing against Ling Jixiao’s heart.
“Hmm?” Ling Jixiao turned back to ask.
“What’s your name, pretty Sister?” Qin Yue asked, squinting as she leaned against the doorframe. “My name is Qin Yue—the ‘Yue’ from ‘joy’.”
Ling Jixiao paused.
She had reviewed all of Qin Yue’s files, but it seemed they had never formally introduced themselves to each other.
“My name is Ling Jixiao. ‘Ji’ as in ‘clear sky after rain,’ and ‘Xiao’ as in ‘gentle drizzle.’ You can call me Sister Jixiao,” Ling Jixiao replied.
“How pretty! I’ll remember that!” Qin Yue said with a sweet smile. “Goodnight, Sister Jixiao.”
“Goodnight.”
Ling Jixiao watched Qin Yue close the door. After putting down her water cup, she went to her bedroom, opened the door, and lay down to sleep.
Two hours later, a noise from outside woke Ling Jixiao. She half-opened her eyes, waiting.
Because she’d had a big glass of water before bed, Qin Yue sleepily got up to use the bathroom.
Still half-asleep, she didn’t even check the door after using the toilet. She just wandered into the master bedroom and burrowed under the covers.
Ling Jixiao turned to glance at the lump in the covers beside her, a faint smile curling her lips.
Hmm, I only gave her water because I was worried she might be thirsty. I normally sleep with the door open at home, and it’s not my fault if Qin Yue wandered into the wrong room in the middle of the night…
Ling Jixiao gently shifted closer.
Qin Yue already looked delicate, and curled up in her sleep, she seemed even smaller.
Under the moonlight, Ling Jixiao reached out and gently poked Qin Yue’s soft, pale cheek.
It felt exactly as she imagined: soft and incredibly pleasant to the touch.
Apart from sleeping with her mother when she was very young, this was only the second time she’d experienced this—aside from that bar incident.
But that childhood memory of sleeping with her mother was long forgotten.
It was that bar incident that first revealed to Ling Jixiao how soft and comforting it felt to hold Qin Yue while sleeping.
Well, she went to the wrong room! I can just pretend I know nothing about this!
Ling Jixiao thought, shifting closer and pulling Qin Yue into her arms.
She was indeed very soft, and her breath carried a faint, refreshing scent of peaches and shower gel—pleasant and soothing.
Ling Jixiao touched her glands. She habitually wore a Suppressant Patch, so her pheromones rarely escaped. But with this warm, fragrant presence in her arms, she couldn’t help but feel a flutter of restless thoughts.
“Mmm…” Qin Yue, caught in a sweet dream, merely smacked her lips at Ling Jixiao’s disturbance before burrowing closer to the warmth.
Ling Jixiao exhaled deeply, closed her eyes, and slowly drifted back to sleep.
Qin Yue woke up feeling refreshed, her body warm and tingling with a faint minty scent. The scent was familiar, but she couldn’t quite place it.
Maybe it’s from the laundry detergent?
Stretching lazily, she realized her surroundings were different from her guest room. Even the bed felt different—much bigger than the one in her room.
Her heart skipped a beat. Qin Yue quickly got up and left the room.
“Awake?” Ling Jixiao was sitting on the living room sofa, quietly closing her laptop where she’d been reviewing Qin Yue’s files. She looked up. “Breakfast is in the dining room.”
Qin Yue’s face flushed crimson with embarrassment. She hadn’t realized she’d wandered into the wrong room in the middle of the night and gotten into the wrong bed.
“I-I’m sorry!” Qin Yue stammered, her ears burning.
“It’s alright,” Ling Jixiao replied nonchalantly. She really didn’t mind. “Go wash up and eat breakfast.”
“Right, right.” Qin Yue scratched her head awkwardly, hurried to wash up, and went to the dining table.
There was a simple sandwich and a glass of milk.
Ling Jixiao entered with a cup of coffee. “Still good?”
“Absolutely! It’s delicious!” Qin Yue said, looking satisfied. “Did you make it, Sister Jixiao?”
Ling Jixiao paused mid-sip. “No, the housekeeper did.”
Qin Yue stopped chewing, so embarrassed she wanted to dig a three-bedroom, one-living room apartment out of the floor with her toes.
The awkward atmosphere lingered until they left the house.
“I’ll drive you to school,” Ling Jixiao said, picking up her coat.
The city center was quite a distance from A University, requiring a bus transfer.
Qin Yue didn’t want to trouble Ling Jixiao further and quickly refused. “You still have to go to work. I can manage on my own…”
“Let’s go. You’ll be late for class.” Ling Jixiao opened the door and headed for the elevator, leaving no room for argument.
The words of refusal caught in Qin Yue’s throat. Seeing Ling Jixiao’s serious expression, she felt it would be ungrateful to refuse further.
Besides, she was indeed going to be late for her first class.
Having stayed up too late last night and woken up early this morning, Qin Yue drifted off in the passenger seat.
When Ling Jixiao pulled into the parking lot closest to the academic buildings at A University, she turned to see Qin Yue leaning against the passenger seat, her face turned toward the driver’s side, mouth slightly agape, the tip of her tongue faintly visible.
Her restless, uncomfortable sleep made her small nose wrinkled, looking so pitiful that Ling Jixiao couldn’t bear to wake her.
Ling Jixiao didn’t speak. Instead, she handed her phone to Su Yao, asking her to call the school and request a sick leave for Qin Yue. Then, she turned to gaze at Qin Yue’s sleeping face.
It was the first time she had ever seen Qin Yue so clearly in such bright light.
In the past, their physical explorations had always taken place in the darkness. Now, simply watching her quietly, she felt a sense of peaceful contentment.
Noticing a strand of hair sticking up playfully, Ling Jixiao reached out to tuck it back in. But just then, her phone vibrated, and Qin Yue’s eyes snapped open.
Their eyes met, and Ling Jixiao felt a little lost.
Qin Yue, still dazed from sleep, looked like a fawn that had wandered into the jungle. She stared blankly at Ling Jixiao for several seconds.
Ling Jixiao cleared her throat and hung up the phone. “You can go back to sleep.”
Qin Yue, now fully awake, realized she had instinctively reacted to her phone alarm. “Oh no! It’s already time!”
Just then, the school bell rang from the classroom building.
A University’s class schedule consisted of two-hour blocks, with a ten-minute break every hour. The first hour of the morning class had just ended.
Qin Yue’s face fell, silently praying that the teacher wouldn’t call attendance during the first class.
“Sister Jixiao, thank you! I’m off now—drive safely!” Qin Yue hurriedly got out of the car.
“Go on,” Ling Jixiao nodded. She watched Qin Yue run off before driving away.
Qin Yue sprinted to the classroom, only to be caught by Bai Zhi.
“Where were you last night?!” Bai Zhi demanded, yanking Qin Yue to a stop. “You didn’t answer my calls or reply to my texts!”
Qin Yue pulled out her phone, realizing she’d forgotten to charge it properly the night before. After a full night, the battery had completely drained and shut it off.
The bell rang. Qin Yue dragged Bai Zhi to their seats. “I’ll explain everything after class.”
After class, Bai Zhi excused herself to use the restroom. When she returned, she demanded a proper explanation.
Qin Yue nodded frantically, trying to appease her.
Not long after Bai Zhi left, the Class Monitor passed by, looking surprised. “Didn’t you take a sick leave? Why are you here?”
“Huh?” Qin Yue assumed Bai Zhi had called in sick for her. “I rushed back to class as soon as I could!”
The Class Monitor shrugged it off and walked away.
After Bai Zhi returned, Qin Yue recounted the events of the previous night, naturally omitting the fact that she already knew about the female lead’s parents’ car accident from reading the original text. Instead, she claimed that a friend she’d met outside, worried about her parents, had asked for her help, which was why she’d left in such a hurry.
Qin Yue also mentioned meeting Ling Jixiao, describing it as a fortunate coincidence, and how the beautiful woman had unexpectedly helped her again.
Bai Zhi listened in growing anger, jabbing Qin Yue’s shoulder. “Are you stupid? Don’t you have any sense of self-preservation? Going to a stranger’s house in the middle of the night after meeting them only twice? If you get eaten, you’ll have no one to cry to!”
Qin Yue froze, realizing now why Ling Jixiao’s explanation from last night had felt so off.
“No, Jixiao… Miss Ling is a good person!” Qin Yue hastily defended her.
If Ling Jixiao were truly bad news, I would have been marked, raped, or worse by now! Qin Yue thought, remembering how she’d accidentally gone to the wrong room and climbed into the wrong bed yesterday. But this embarrassing incident was too awkward to voice aloud.
Bai Zhi, frustrated with Qin Yue’s naivety, repeatedly urged her, “Omega, you need to learn how to protect yourself!”
Qin Yue quickly assured her that she understood.
Ling Jixiao, whom Qin Yue considered a good person, was driving and answered the call through her car’s Bluetooth.
Grandpa Ling asked what had happened, and Ling Jixiao simply explained that she had rescued two people yesterday. She mentioned that she hadn’t returned to the Old Residence late last night to avoid disturbing everyone.
After a few concerned words for Ling Jixiao, Grandpa Ling began to criticize Ling Jingxi.
“Just getting second place in an English speech contest and already so proud! Back in the day, you were the top student in the entire province! He still thinks he’s hidden it well, but it’s written all over his face…”
Grandpa Ling clearly didn’t favor Ling Jingxi, not being his own blood.
Seeing Grandpa Ling’s anger flare, the Steward quickly took the phone to calm him down.
After settling Grandpa Ling in his room, the Steward briefed Ling Jixiao on the previous night’s events. The young Ling Jingxi, puffed up with pride from receiving some attention from classmates at school, had taken even mild criticism as a personal attack. Unable to hide his emotions, he stormed out of Grandpa’s study and left the Old Residence after downing a bottle of wine. He likely returned to school.
The alcohol content in that bottle was quite high, and the steward only told Ling Jixiao because he was worried the Young Master might hurt himself.
As Ling Jixiao listened, she started to feel something wasn’t quite right.
Drunk, angry, left, and then happened to be hit on that road…
If she hadn’t experienced last night’s rescue, she might not have thought so much about it.
