After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 11
Since only one person could accompany the ambulance, Li Nuonuo remained at the school while Bai Zhi went to the hospital with Qin Yue.
Qin Yue’s asthma wasn’t particularly severe. The allergen had only made brief contact before being quickly removed, and prompt medical attention ensured she quickly recovered.
Qin Yue remained unconscious, but she was now out of immediate danger. After receiving her IV, the nurses left her alone, and Bai Zhi sat beside her bed to keep watch.
Although they had been classmates for three years, the two hadn’t truly become close until half a year prior.
Before that, Qin Yue had been distant and aloof, rarely interacting with others, her entire being closed off. But six months ago, she suddenly became warm and outgoing, leaving Bai Zhi wondering if she had been replaced by an entirely different person.
Despite this sudden change, Bai Zhi found the new Qin Yue much more appealing. She preferred the enthusiastic and sociable Qin Yue over the cold and distant one she knew before.
In just half a year, the two quickly became close friends.
“Bed 3, don’t forget to pay the bill,” the nurse reminded her.
Bai Zhi nodded in acknowledgment. Seeing Qin Yue still asleep, she decided to take advantage of the quiet moment to pay the bill and stood up.
The suddenness of the incident had kept her on edge the entire time. Now that Qin Yue was finally stable, a wave of exhaustion washed over her. In a daze, she trudged down to the first-floor billing hall to queue for payment.
Su Yao’s mother was getting on in years and wasn’t in the best of health. Today was the scheduled day for her regular check-up, so Su Yao had taken the morning off to accompany her. Now she was heading to the first floor to pay for the examination.
As she approached the payment queue, she noticed someone in one of the lines looked quite familiar. After a moment’s thought, Su Yao remembered where she’d seen her: at A University. She was the girl who had been dressed up like a peacock during the award ceremony.
Without giving it much thought, Su Yao simply lined up behind Bai Zhi, since her queue had fewer people.
Bai Zhi was still in line when her phone rang. Worried about her friend, she answered irritably.
“Yeah, I’m at the hospital.”
“I’m fine, I’m perfectly fine.”
“My friend Qin Yue is hospitalized!”
“What?! I told you Yueyue was sick, Yueyue was sick! And you still asked me to go to the movies?! Breakup!”
Bai Zhi hung up abruptly.
Su Yao, who had overheard the conversation, was speechless.
Looks like this girl values her friends more than her boyfriend.
The girl mentioned Qin Yue. Su Yao remembered seeing Bai Zhi chatting and laughing with Qin Yue at A University. She must be Qin Yue’s friend…
Su Yao filed this away in her mind.
Bai Zhi reached the payment counter and was shocked to learn that ambulances weren’t free. Shouldn’t they be free? she thought. Students barely have any money for living expenses, and one trip to the hospital could wipe out a month’s budget!
Fortunately, they could use their college health insurance, but unfortunately, Bai Zhi hadn’t brought her card. Since she couldn’t use her ID as a substitute, she had no choice but to give up and return to the ICU to wait for Qin Yue to wake up. Only then could she use Qin Yue’s ID to claim reimbursement.
Juggling the scattered papers, Bai Zhi turned too quickly and bumped into someone behind her.
“Sorry,” she blurted out, dropping the papers all over the floor.
“It’s okay.” Su Yao helped her bend down and pick up the papers.
Looking at Su Yao’s face, Bai Zhi froze. She’d seen this woman before—she was a senior executive from the Minghui Group who had presented her with an award once.
Su Yao placed the papers in Bai Zhi’s hand, nodded lightly, and walked to the window to pay.
Bai Zhi took a deep breath, shook off her wild thoughts, and returned to the ICU with the papers.
Ling Jixiao was in her office, poring over documents.
Dark circles lingered under her eyes.
She hadn’t slept well last night.
Before she’d ever tasted carnal pleasures, she could maintain her asceticism. But now that she’d experienced true beauty, she could no longer control herself.
At least she was now thirty, like a wolf at the peak of her power.
Sometimes she thought, To hell with it all, and considered contacting Qin Yue, making her her kept woman. Occasional releases of tension could help her relax and relieve the stress of work.
But she was a proud woman, and her private life could even affect her company’s stock prices.
She knew there was a significant age gap between them—she was over a decade older than Qin Yue, who was still a student. If she truly acted on her impulses, people would inevitably call her a lecherous old cow devouring tender grass, a beast…
For the sake of her company’s reputation, she couldn’t do it.
But…
Ling Jixiao was truly torn. She rarely encountered an Omega she didn’t find irritating.
Looking at it another way, while Omegas without floral-scented pheromones were rare, Qin Yue certainly wasn’t the only one. She could have the Ling family’s clubs investigate for other candidates. Mutual consent would be ideal.
Ling Jixiao decided that after work today, she would go to the S.S Club and ask the manager to find her an omega whose pheromones weren’t floral-scented to try.
With this thought, Ling Jixiao felt relieved and focused on her work.
Before noon, Su Yao called.
“CEO Ling, guess who I saw at the hospital?” Su Yao asked mysteriously.
Ling Jixiao was a bit annoyed by Su Yao’s tone. “If you’re bored, I’ll give you some extra work!”
“Wait, Boss!” Su Yao quickly backtracked. Despite their decade-long friendship from university and work, she still didn’t want to work overtime. “I ran into a friend of Qin Yue’s at the hospital today. Apparently, Qin Yue is hospitalized.”
Ling Jixiao pursed her lips, remaining silent for a moment.
“She’s in the emergency room. They say an ambulance brought her in unconscious—something must have happened,” Su Yao continued, babbling. Though she was rambling, she had inadvertently spoken the truth.
After a few seconds, Ling Jixiao retorted stiffly, “What does this have to do with work?”
Su Yao sounded a little disappointed. “It’s really no big deal, CEO Ling. I’ll be back at work this afternoon.” She started to hang up.
Ling Jixiao panicked. “Wait!”
Su Yao patiently waited two minutes before hearing Ling Jixiao slowly ask, “Which hospital?”
After Su Yao gave her the address and hung up, she smiled at the dark screen of her phone and murmured, “Fake prude!”
Meanwhile, Ling Jixiao, now in possession of the hospital address, felt conflicted. She did feel a flicker of fondness for Qin Yue, likely because she hadn’t encountered a suitable Omega in so long, and Qin Yue was simply someone she didn’t dislike.
If she went over there unannounced, it would be terribly awkward.
Ling Jixiao decided she should focus on finishing her work first.
But the files had been sitting on her desk for over ten minutes, and she hadn’t even read a single page.
Sighing, she put away the files, got in her car, and drove to the hospital Su Yao had mentioned, reassuring herself that since she’d taken advantage of Qin Yue, even if Qin Yue didn’t demand responsibility, she still needed to take responsibility herself!
When Qin Yue woke up, Bai Zhi was playing on her phone nearby. Seeing Qin Yue awake, she immediately asked anxiously if she felt any discomfort.
Qin Yue shook her head. “Don’t tell Grandma Qin,” she said. She was worried about her grandmother, who had already been fretting over the Xixing Sanatorium. She didn’t want to add to her worries.
“Got it. I haven’t told Director Grandma yet,” Bai Zhi replied.
After confirming Qin Yue was alright, Bai Zhi asked for her identification information, explaining she needed to go to the first-floor lobby to pay the bill.
After Bai Zhi left, Qin Yue took a deep breath. She hadn’t expected her new body to be allergic to roses, and on top of that, she had mild asthma.
If it weren’t for this accident, she would never have known about her condition.
Mild asthma usually doesn’t affect daily life, but it flares up when exposed to allergens.
When she first arrived in this world, it was already summer, long after the spring blooming season. That’s why Qin Yue had no idea about her body’s sensitivities.
Now that she knew she was allergic to roses and pollen, it meant the Male Lead would also find out about her allergies. But wouldn’t that just repeat the original plot?
Qin Yue was at a loss for what to do.
Just then, someone approached the door.
“Qin Yue, what are you doing here?” A cool voice made Qin Yue look up.
When she saw who it was, Qin Yue froze, instinctively covering her cheeks with both hands.
Thank goodness, thank goodness—I didn’t touch the roses directly. I’m not swollen like a pig’s head or disfigured.
“Sister Jixiao, what brings you here?” Qin Yue asked with a smile.
Ling Jixiao looked Qin Yue up and down, visibly relieved to see she seemed fine. Her lips curved slightly. “I came to visit a friend in the hospital and ran into you. What happened? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, just a minor allergic reaction,” Qin Yue replied, scratching her head sheepishly.
If it were just a minor allergic reaction, she wouldn’t have been rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Ling Jixiao sat down on the chair by the bed and asked softly, “I know people at this hospital. Should I try to get you a better room?”
This was a public hospital, and Ling Jixiao didn’t actually know anyone here—though she certainly had the money to influence things.
Qin Yue was currently in a temporary ward in the emergency room, the environment less than ideal and quite noisy.
“No, no need,” Qin Yue quickly shook her head. She couldn’t afford the hospital fees. “I’m feeling better now. Once this IV is done, I can be discharged. There’s no need to go to such trouble!”
Asthma attacks can be life-threatening, but once they subside, patients usually recover completely and are discharged.
Ling Jixiao nodded, remaining silent. She noticed a strand of Qin Yue’s hair had fallen out of place as she shook her head in frustration, and instinctively tucked it behind her ear.
Warm fingertips accidentally brushed against Qin Yue’s cool skin.
The sudden closeness and gesture created an awkward, almost flirtatious atmosphere between them.
Ling Jixiao sat back, curling her fingers. “Do you have someone with you?”
“Yeah, my roommate’s here. She went to pay the bill.” Qin Yue scratched her head, looking uneasy.
Realizing she had no reason to stay, Ling Jixiao stood up and said she had to leave for other errands.
“Alright, be careful on the road!” Qin Yue smiled sweetly, her grin reaching Ling Jixiao’s heart. Yet Ling Jixiao felt a twinge of annoyance—why was Qin Yue so happy now that she was leaving?
As she stepped out of the hospital room, Ling Jixiao let out a soft sigh. The close proximity had carried a faint peach scent, stirring wild thoughts in her mind.
I want to take her.
I want to see her disheveled.
Especially the way her pale skin glowed against the blue disposable hospital sheets.
Realizing her thoughts were spiraling out of control, Ling Jixiao quickly dismissed these colorful ideas from her mind.
Meanwhile, Qin Yue in the hospital room breathed a sigh of relief. The atmosphere had grown awkwardly suggestive, leaving her unsure how to proceed.
By the time Bai Zhi returned, Ling Jixiao had already left. Bai Zhi took the bill back to the room and slapped Qin Yue’s shoulder with unbridled enthusiasm. “Brother (old friend), I’ll treat you to a food spree at the cafeteria for the next half-month!”
“It’s not that bad!” Qin Yue glanced at the bill. “I still have some savings left. I can manage for the next half-month.”
“Really?” Bai Zhi looked skeptical.
“Really, really!” Qin Yue nodded vigorously, pulling out her phone to show her balance.
“I don’t need to see it. If you say so, that’s good enough,” Bai Zhi said, settling back into her chair. “If you really run out, I’m here for you.”
“Let me tell you, I never realized ambulances charge! I thought they were free!” Bai Zhi couldn’t help but grumble about it.
Qin Yue shook her head, clueless. This was her first time in an ambulance, even after two lifetimes.
Feeling mostly recovered, Qin Yue grew embarrassed about imposing on Bai Zhi and urged her to return to school.
“I don’t have anything else to do, so why are you trying to kick me out?” Bai Zhi said with a laugh. “Besides, I need to stay by your bedside!”
Qin Yue looked puzzled. “Didn’t you just start dating someone new? You finally have some free time today—aren’t you going on a date?”
Bai Zhi pursed her lips impatiently. “We broke up.”
“Huh?” Qin Yue was surprised. “You’ve only been dating for half a month! That’s a pretty quick breakup!”
“Whatever,” Bai Zhi waved her hand dismissively. “Dating is just about seeing if you’re compatible. If you are, you keep going; if not, you split. Why else would they call it ‘dating’ instead of just getting married?”
Qin Yue thought there was some truth to Bai Zhi’s words, but she still found it strange. She stopped pressuring Bai Zhi, figuring this guy was just promiscuous anyway—none of her Alpha boyfriends ever lasted more than three months.
What was surprising, though, was that Bai Zhi was actually a bit of a clean freak. Despite having so many ex-boyfriends, she’d never even kissed anyone—her first kiss was still intact. She’d even seriously claimed that swapping saliva through kissing was disgusting.
This made Qin Yue wonder if Bai Zhi ever got intimate with someone, wouldn’t she just throw up?
Bai Zhi checked the time and stood up to buy lunch. Just then, a delivery arrived.
The two looked at each other, bewildered. “We didn’t order anything!”
“Is this for Ms. Qin Yue?” the delivery person asked, checking the receipt.
Qin Yue nodded.
After accepting the delivery, Bai Zhi stared in shock at the restaurant’s name on the packaging. “I know this place! It’s famous for its medicinal cuisine, and I heard it’s really expensive!” She looked up at Qin Yue and teased, “Hey, Little Yueyue, did you secretly hook up with a sugar daddy behind my back?”
“Stop being silly!” Qin Yue laughed, playfully swatting Bai Zhi.
Given Ling Jingxi’s fame, news of her hospitalization had likely spread throughout the entire school. But only two people were both wealthy enough and willing to send her such an expensive meal.
Qin Yue immediately ruled out Ling Jingxi. After all, the obsessive and twisted male lead had hospitalized her without even inquiring about the hospital’s name. He’d simply sent a flurry of apology messages. In contrast, Ling Jixiao had stopped by earlier to sit with her for a while.
Both surnamed Ling, yet their characters are worlds apart!
With this thought, Qin Yue took out her phone and sent Ling Jixiao a thank-you message.
Ling Jixiao didn’t reply, probably because she was driving.
Qin Yue took a bite and savored the rich flavor, surprised by the complete absence of any medicinal bitterness.
Bai Zhi, sitting nearby, exclaimed loudly, “Oh my, burning through money like this really makes the food taste amazing!”
