After Transmigrating Into A Novel, Not Only Did I Become An Omega, But I Also Provoked The Male Lead’s Mother - Chapter 12
Qin Yue thought she could go home after her IV treatment, but the doctor insisted she stay overnight for observation to check for any signs of infection.
Left with no choice, Qin Yue gritted her teeth and emptied her savings to pay for a day in the hospital. Only after confirming she was fine did she return to school.
The school forum was buzzing with posts about Ling Jingxi’s confession.
[Breaking! Freshman heartthrob confesses his feelings outside his dorm, but his confession partner is rushed to the hospital!]
[Hot! Campus heartthrob’s confession sends his crush to the hospital! Why so brutal? Here’s the reason!]
[Uninformed readers might have thought the failed confession turned into murder! But when they clicked through, they were just as confused: Why did the confession partner suddenly collapse and go into shock?]
Ling Jingxi’s fans flooded the comments with insults directed at Qin Yue, calling her an ungrateful fraud who was faking illness to extort money!
Some bystander students commented, asking if anyone knew what really happened.
Speculations ran wild: Maybe the confession partner was already sickly and collapsed from excitement. Maybe Ling Jingxi’s charm was too overwhelming. Maybe the confession partner was possessed by a ghost—did you see her clutching her neck and fainting? Maybe Ling Jingxi has body odor so foul he knocked her out with the stench!
The last theory came under fire from Ling Jingxi’s die-hard fans.
Though Ling Jingxi’s confession had famously turned into an emergency situation, Qin Yue was relieved that A University, lacking a medical school or medical students, meant no one recognized her asthma attack triggered by an allergen.
After returning, Qin Yue calmed her anxious roommate, Li Nuonuo, assuring her she was fine now.
Last night, when Qin Yue had been hospitalized, Bai Zhi had stayed by her side. Li Nuonuo had mentioned feeling particularly frightened, being the only one left in the dorm.
The three of them had always shared the dorm, but Qin Yue had never really questioned it. At first, she’d been too preoccupied with her curiosity and fear about this new world to pay attention.
After lights-out, as they lay in bed chatting, Qin Yue finally asked about it.
“Have you forgotten?” Li Nuonuo asked, clearly surprised.
“Uh, I was busy with other things before, so I didn’t notice,” Qin Yue replied, quickly coming up with an excuse.
Bai Zhi also seemed puzzled by the question, but patiently answered. The dorm originally housed four people, but one of them, a senior, had moved out for her internship. That left just the three of them.
This revelation made Qin Yue begin to doubt her memories—or rather, the memories of the original body.
It seemed the original body’s memories weren’t complete. At first glance, Qin Yue’s college years appeared quite ordinary, but upon closer inspection, many details were missing.
Qin Yue knew dwelling on these details wasn’t important now. Her immediate priority was to get rid of Ling Jingxi.
She didn’t have many friends in this world. Bai Zhi was her best friend, and Li Nuonuo counted as a good friend.
Three minds were better than one stuck in a rut. She asked how to make Ling Jingxi give up on her.
Li Nuonuo was baffled. “He’s so great! I heard his family is rich, they own a big company, and he’s the heir. Why not just give in?”
“I don’t like him!” Qin Yue rolled over on her bed. “Even if he’s handsome and rich, I just don’t like him.”
Li Nuonuo hesitated and fell silent.
Bai Zhi, with her wealth of “romantic experience,” suggested, “If you want him to give up on you, why not just find a boyfriend?”
“Huh?” Qin Yue was confused.
“Ah, don’t worry. I’ll introduce you to a high-quality Alpha tomorrow. He can pretend to be your boyfriend and put on a show for Ling Jingxi. That’ll make him give up for sure!” Bai Zhi yawned. “I’m tired now. G’night.”
Qin Yue wanted to protest. After all, the original book had mentioned that Ling Jingxi kidnapped the White Moonlight because he thought she had fallen for another Alpha. When he realized the White Moonlight would never accept him, he resorted to an allergic reaction, forcing her to suffocate to death.
But when Bai Zhi said she was going to sleep, Qin Yue held her tongue. She figured she could just refuse the introduction tomorrow. Her own safety was paramount, but she didn’t want to drag anyone else into danger.
The next day, Qin Yue was rushing to class, so flustered she completely forgot about Bai Zhi’s proposal. It wasn’t until lunchtime, when Bai Zhi took her to a small restaurant off campus and introduced her to a male Alpha, that Qin Yue remembered.
The moment Cao Yun saw Qin Yue, his eyes lit up.
Qin Yue didn’t notice, but Bai Zhi did.
With the Alpha right in front of her, Qin Yue couldn’t refuse outright. This forced Bai Zhi to explain the situation to him.
Cao Yun was a senior at A University, already guaranteed a job on campus after graduation. He was a promising young man.
After hearing Qin Yue’s story, Cao Yun thumped his chest and vowed to play the role of Qin Yue’s boyfriend perfectly, to make that freshman pretty boy give up for good!
Qin Yue hesitated, wondering if she should refuse right then and there. Bai Zhi draped an arm around her shoulders and reassured her, “Don’t worry, Senior Cao here is a fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo. He’s super skilled!”
Bai Zhi praised Cao Yun, and he proudly lifted his chin with each compliment.
After dinner, Qin Yue bid farewell to Cao Yun. As she tried to pull away from Bai Zhi, who was holding her sleeve, Qin Yue hesitated.
Bai Zhi quickly cut her off. “Relax, Cao Yun is amazing! He’s a really decent guy, very gentlemanly. You can trust him completely. He’ll definitely protect you and make Ling Jingxi stop bothering you for good!”
Qin Yue gave her a strange look. “Isn’t he one of your ex-boyfriends?”
“Ahem.” Bai Zhi waved her hand awkwardly. “That’s not important. What matters is that he’s trustworthy. Just leave it to me!”
Still unconvinced, Qin Yue solemnly urged Bai Zhi to refuse Cao Yun’s offer and stay out of this mess.
Bai Zhi agreed verbally, but Qin Yue had no idea if she actually followed through.
The next day, after class, Qin Yue hurried back to her dormitory alone to change clothes before heading to her part-time job. Bai Zhi claimed to have business to attend to, possibly a new development, while Li Nuonuo said she was going to the library.
Halfway to her destination, Qin Yue ran into the headache that was Ling Jingxi.
Ling Jingxi solemnly apologized, “I’m really sorry, Senior. I didn’t know you were allergic to roses, or I would never have given you this bouquet. You know that roses symbolize love, and I just wanted to express that sentiment. I can give you another kind of flower…”
His words buzzed in Qin Yue’s ears as she stood frozen in place, her heart pounding like a raging storm that refused to subside.
How could Ling Jingxi know exactly what she was allergic to?
Qin Yue’s nails dug painfully into her palms as she gasped for breath, panic swallowing her rationality like a black hole.
What do I do? What do I do?!
Was she doomed to follow the original plot of the book, step by step, against her will? Was her fate to be murdered by Ling Jingxi?
Qin Yue’s body stiffened. Though it was a warm, sunny day, she felt icy cold.
“Senior, I’m truly sincere! Please give me another chance!” Ling Jingxi continued pleading.
Qin Yue couldn’t bear to listen anymore. Her heart pounded like war drums, her body drenched in cold sweat, her mind flooded with visions of her impending doom.
Just then, a figure approached and placed a hand on Qin Yue’s shoulder.
“Who are you?” Ling Jingxi glared at the newcomer, his eyes fixed menacingly on the hand resting on Qin Yue’s shoulder.
“Me? I’m her Alpha!” Cao Yun declared, tilting his head back.
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Ling Jingxi growled, his teeth grinding so hard they seemed about to snap. He looked ready to pounce and tear a chunk of flesh from Cao Yun’s body.
“Hah, what’s so nonsensical about that?” Cao Yun rolled his eyes at Ling Jingxi, then looked down at Qin Yue. “Right, dear?” He wasn’t intimidated by this pretty boy.
Ling Jingxi ignored Cao Yun, instead shooting a reproachful glance at Qin Yue. “Senior, this joke isn’t funny at all.” It was as if he hoped she would admit it was a joke, and then he could magnanimously forgive her.
Qin Yue felt a chill under Ling Jingxi’s gaze. She opened her mouth to speak, but found her voice caught in her throat, unable to form a single word.
Should I clarify?
Would admitting my relationship with Cao Yun make Ling Jingxi give up?
But if Ling Jingxi goes berserk because of this, Cao Yun will be dragged into it!
Yet a devilish voice whispered in her mind: Just admit it. Don’t worry about them. As long as you get out of this mess, it’s fine. You worked so hard to get a second chance at life—you have to cherish it!
Her rational mind countered: You shouldn’t drag innocent people into this. At worst, you could just drop out and hide from this deranged male lead!
Qin Yue was about to say that she really had nothing to do with Cao Yun when he stepped in front of her, blocking Ling Jingxi’s gaze.
Seeing this, Ling Jingxi gave a cold smile and immediately released his pheromones.
Alpha pheromones have a mutually repulsive effect, and two Alphas releasing pheromones at each other usually signifies a challenge.
Cao Yun wasn’t afraid of Ling Jingxi. He immediately released his own pheromones to counterattack.
The combined assault of two Alpha pheromones was pure torture for Qin Yue, who was overwhelmed by the intense pheromones, feeling dizzy and disoriented, almost collapsing. Cao Yun quickly noticed and steadied her with a swift motion.
Realizing Qin Yue, the Omega, was still there, Cao Yun politely retracted his pheromones, pulled Qin Yue back a few steps, and moved her as far away from the pheromone battlefield as possible.
Ling Jingxi also noticed this, snorted coldly, and retracted his pheromones.
“I advise you to stop harassing my girlfriend!” Cao Yun narrowed his eyes at Ling Jingxi. “Otherwise, I won’t hold back!” He pulled Qin Yue away.
Ling Jingxi watched their retreating figures, his eyes filled with venomous madness. He picked up his phone and dialed. “Hello, Young Master Zhang? I need to borrow a few of your men…”
Qin Yue felt dizzy and disoriented, and it took her a while to recover from the wind. By the time she came back to her senses, Cao Yun had already pulled her away.
“You…” Qin Yue frowned.
“Sorry.” Cao Yun let go of her hand and stepped back, maintaining a friendly distance.
“It’s okay. Thank you for what you did earlier.” Qin Yue shook her head. “I just feel bad for getting you involved.” She sighed, her brows furrowed with worry. “You need to be careful. That guy isn’t someone you want to mess with.”
“Haha, I’m not scared!” Cao Yun laughed heartily, scratching his head. “Don’t worry about that. My status isn’t something ordinary. That kid can’t touch me!”
Qin Yue didn’t know, nor did she want to know, about Cao Yun’s status. “Thank you. Just… be careful in the future. Don’t do anything like that again.”
With that, Qin Yue turned to leave.
Cao Yun hurried after her. “Hey, junior, don’t worry. It’s really fine.” He thought for a moment, then walked beside her. “If that Ling guy bothers you again, just let me know. I swear I’ll help you make him give up for good!”
“Thank you,” Qin Yue said, though inwardly she didn’t want to trouble him further. Ling Jingxi was a legal eagle! If innocent lives were truly endangered, she’d feel terrible.
And she was Ling Jingxi’s White Moonlight. As long as she stayed out of trouble, she could maintain her temporary safety.
Cao Yun, however, didn’t seem to mind. He followed Qin Yue, his eyes sparkling with interest. “Ahem, junior, I really am not afraid. Don’t worry.” After a moment’s thought, he added, “I can protect you. You can completely rely on me.”
His words were almost a blatant declaration, but Qin Yue, a bit thick-skinned, didn’t pick up on his meaning. She nodded absently. “Thanks, senior. But there’s really no need for that.”
Seeing that Qin Yue still hadn’t understood, Cao Yun tried again. “Ahem, junior, what I mean is… could we make this pretend thing real?”
“Senior… what do you mean?” Qin Yue stopped walking, her confusion evident.
Cao Yun grinned, his broad features giving him a goofy look. “I just… I really like you, junior. If it’s possible, I’d like to have a real reason to protect you.”
Qin Yue pressed her lips together, glanced at Cao Yun, and hesitated before saying, “I’m sorry, but I’m not interested in that right now.” She felt no romantic interest in Cao Yun and hoped her rejection wouldn’t hurt him.
“It’s alright,” Cao Yun said with a graceful wave of his hand, embodying the gentleman Bai Zhi had described. “If you ever need help in the future, feel free to reach out to me anytime.”
“Thank you, Senior Brother,” Qin Yue replied, solidifying their relationship as that of a senior and junior student.
Cao Yun watched Qin Yue’s retreating figure and sighed. He had actually developed quite a fondness for the junior sister, but it seemed she was uninterested.
On her way back, Qin Yue received a call from a relative of the female lead, Ye Tiantian. The caller expressed gratitude for Qin Yue saving Ye Tiantian’s parents and invited her to meet for a meal.
Qin Yue was curious about the female lead and, though the possibility was slim, hoped she could subtly hint that Ling Jingxi might be the hit-and-run driver. She wanted to help send that crazy male lead to jail.
She agreed to meet the next afternoon.
Qin Yue remembered that she had rescued the parents with Ling Jixiao.
Will I see her tomorrow?
Qin Yue didn’t even realize she felt a flicker of anticipation.
