- Chapter 6 - What Are You Doing?
Ultimately, Su Chuiyun threw that nefarious doll out.
Fortunately, she had taken a secret peek under its clothes, there was nothing inappropriate inside. It was just a very “serious,” life-sized collectible figure.
When Song Xi saw her actions, the composure on her face nearly crumbled.
Song Xi gritted her teeth and said, “Don’t you dare regret this.”
After speaking, Song Xi instinctively glanced at Su Chuiyun.
The frail woman sat in her wheelchair, her charcoal-gray, unfocused eyes resting on Song Xi. It was as if she were looking at a piece of trash.
Su Chuiyun’s gaze was shallow and rippleless, like a pool of quiet water that wouldn’t be stirred by anything before her. Only when her eyes fell upon Ming Shu did they regain a flicker of spirit.
Su Chuiyun thought: Why is she looking at me? Did she figure out I’m faking being blind?
Song Xi thought: Suddenly, I realize… she is so beautiful.
Ming Shu: [Silence]
The Confrontation
Song Xi, looking humiliated, picked up the silicone doll from the ground. She couldn’t allow a doll made in her likeness to be mocked by a trash can. Having lost face repeatedly, her expression was now hideous.
Before leaving, Song Xi shot Ming Shu a look filled with venom.
“I’m saying… you don’t really plan on living with this ‘adopted daughter’, who is a daughter in name only for the rest of your life, do you?” Song Xi curled her lips. “I bet you’re just playing around with Ming Shu. After all, she’s about to become a child bride for the Ming family. The Ming family’s son is not someone to be trifled with.”
Ming Shu’s face turned pale instantly. Her breathing became extremely ragged. She immediately called security to drag Song Xi out.
Marrying her younger brother…
The hall fell into a dead silence. Outside the latticed windows, a few wild gardenias swayed in the bamboo grove, their rich fragrance drifting in with the wind. These flowers were originally meant to be cleared away.
“Child bride” a term that shouldn’t exist in modern society sounded incredibly harsh coming from Song Xi’s mouth.
Su Chuiyun turned her head toward Ming Shu and asked softly, “Is it true?”
In the original book, the Ming family’s only son was as fat as a pig, making one wonder if he had escaped from a slaughterhouse. Only the Ming parents treated him like a precious treasure. Seeing that Ming Shu had made money abroad, it made sense they’d want to keep the wealth in the family.
Ming Shu said hoarsely, “It won’t happen. I won’t agree to it.”
Through her rimless glasses, Ming Shu looked down at her with a plea that only Su Chuiyun could see forgetting for a moment that Su Chuiyun was “blind.” Ming Shu thought to herself that she would settle everything; she wouldn’t let irrelevant people interfere with this relationship.
Please, trust me one more time…
The “Child Bride” Rebuttal
Song Xi wore a look of someone watching a spectacle. “Chuiyun, are you really driving me away? It’s been rainy lately, aren’t you afraid of thunder anymore? I can stay with you.”
Su Chuiyun thought: Afraid of my foot. “Is there a possibility,” Su Chuiyun said, “that Ming Shu is my child bride?”
Song Xi gasped. “What?”
Su Chuiyun’s expression turned strange. “When I was four, she even gave me a bath.”
Song Xi: “…Ah, no..?”
Su Chuiyun: “She’s seen me. She has to take responsibility for me.”
“Before the Ming family son was even born, I had already claimed her. She is mine.”
The security guards in black uniforms dutifully “escorted” Miss Song out and revoked her access to the main gate. Song Xi wanted to say more, but looking back, she saw Su Chuiyun reaching up to wipe away the “Green Tea” girl’s tears.
What was supposed to be a “crematorium” level confrontation had turned into a part of the couple’s foreplay.
Song Xi stood by the roadside, dazed. The security guard tossed the doll at her feet and slammed the heavy gate shut.
“Miss Su is a woman with a family. Please respect yourself and don’t come back.”
Song Xi: “…” She kicked the doll’s head hard.
The Hallway Intimacy
Back in the hall, Ming Shu stared at her with a gaze so burning it could make someone smoke.
Su Chuiyun softly leaned her forehead against Ming Shu’s abdomen. “Sister Ming Shu.”
Ming Shu didn’t wear perfume, she smelled faintly of laundry detergent and the sun.
Su Chuiyun said weakly, “Why aren’t you talking? Did Ah Yun say something wrong just now?”
“No!” Ming Shu blurted out. “Of course not. Do you… really think that?”
Ming Shu couldn’t believe the confession-like words from her “younger sister.” She used to take care of Su Chuiyun out of duty as an elder, never expecting the child to remember.
Ming Shu’s head was buzzing. She sat on the cold wooden chair, letting Su Chuiyun nuzzle against her like a Call Duck. After all, the “little blind girl” couldn’t see anything.
The little blind girl just wanted to smell the scent of the sun.
The little blind girl’s lips pressed against Ming Shu’s collarbone. Using her teeth, she pulled aside the obstructing shirt and pressed her lips against the thin skin.
In the cool breeze, it was a searing kiss. The flesh on the collarbone was nipped, sending a jolt of excitement through the nerves. Nothing is more stimulating than a beautiful woman shedding humble tears.
Taking advantage of Ming Shu’s indulgence, Su Chuiyun let her lips climb recklessly toward Ming Shu’s neck. Every kiss was a silent comfort.
Ming Shu: “…How are you so skilled?”
Ming Shu had never kissed anyone, but she knew an inexperienced person shouldn’t be like this.
This was a misunderstanding for Su Chuiyun. She truly had no experience, she had just watched too many “inappropriate” things during quiet nights. After all, she had never had a wife growing up…
The frail girl with the disabled legs and unfocused gray eyes looked at her blankly. Finally, she planted a gentle, soothing kiss on the corner of Ming Shu’s mouth.
Ming Shu loved this kind of kiss.
“Do you really not care about my status?” Ming Shu whispered. “What your… mistress said was true.”
When mentioning the word “mistress” (referring to Song Xi), Ming Shu practically ground her teeth. She couldn’t stand her precious sister being taken away by someone else especially someone with less education and money.
“She’s not a mistress. We never slept together. And you won’t marry your brother. Right?”
Su Chuiyun was practically sitting in her lap. In the empty hall, surrounded by carved windows, anyone passing by could see the scene inside. Outside, bamboo shadows swayed, and the distant sound of a waterfall crashing against rocks could be heard.
The breathing rhythms of both women were in disarray, especially Ming Shu’s. Her long hair clung to the side of her face, and her lips were so swollen and red they appeared more vivid than if she were wearing lipstick.
Her throat felt dry and raspy as she repeated herself, “My background isn’t as good as you imagine. Our wedding wouldn’t be blessed by many. The blood flowing in my veins is filthy, and I don’t even know whose it is. My parents might have been gamblers, local thugs, or had even more unspeakable professions. They lacked the ability to raise me, so they abandoned me at the gates of an orphanage.”
“The orphanage was not a kind place. For a long time, I thought I would simply rot away in the dust.”
As Ming Shu spoke incessantly, Su Chuiyun lifted the teapot, intending to pour her a cup of hot tea. However, the teapot was ice-cold, Auntie Wang hadn’t brewed any tea inside.
Su Chuiyun glanced toward the tea cabinet. It was empty. The Darjeeling black tea that Ming Shu had sent from abroad had suddenly vanished. In the original novel, Auntie Wang had a good for nothing son and would often steal high-quality items from her employer’s home for him.
The original host’s life really was a mess, Su Chuiyun thought.
Ming Shu noticed her movements and stopped talking. “I have a water bottle in my bag.”
While Su Chuiyun sat on her lap, she watched Ming Shu reach into her handbag and feel around for a thermos.
“I brewed some honeysuckle tea. Since your legs aren’t well, you should drink more of it.”
Su Chuiyun’s heart softened at her gentle thoughtfulness. What kind of peerless treasure is this? She’s the perfect “virtuous wife” material!
Su Chuiyun used her lips to brush away the tears on Ming Shu’s face. “Your voice is hoarse, you should be the one drinking more.”
As the heat-clearing tea touched her tongue, Ming Shu suppressed the surging emotions in her heart. “Sometimes, I really find it hard to believe you can’t see.”
Was her little sister really blind? If she were truly blind, how could she find the exact position of her collarbone with such precision? How could she bite right at the center of her throat? How could she accurately find the corner of her lips to kiss?
The more Ming Shu thought about it, the redder her face became. Yet, she felt she shouldn’t harbor such malicious suspicions, such doubts were extremely disrespectful to a patient.
Su Chuiyun waited until Ming Shu finished before taking a small sip of the tea.
“You can’t keep Auntie Wang in this house anymore,” Ming Shu said, remembering that Auntie Wang had worked for the Su family for over a decade. “Perhaps you have some feelings for her, but I can provide her with N+1 compensation, or perhaps even more.”
Ming Shu’s lips, soaked by the tea, became shimmering and bright. As they opened and closed, one could see her neat, pearl-like teeth and her overly pink tongue tip. Like a rabbit’s tongue…
Su Chuiyun averted her gaze. Ming Shu was her benefactor naturally, she would defer to her opinion.
“Auntie Wang has a son. She mentioned before that he got into some trouble at his company and couldn’t stay on. She said he wanted to come to the Su family to work as a driver.”
To have an unprincipled male driver beside a blind person, Auntie Wang’s scheming was so obvious it was practically hitting Su Chuiyun in the face.
“Is his name Wang Jiabao? He embezzled a sum of payment,” Ming Shu noted, having heard a bit about it. She put her arm around Su Chuiyun’s waist, patting her sister to comfort her. “The company he worked for wants to cooperate with us. I’ll look into it and give you a satisfactory answer.”
The little blind girl didn’t seem to be listening seriously. She quite naughtily kept rubbing against Ming Shu’s face, her lips accidentally brushing against Ming Shu’s cool earlobe.
Heaven only knew how someone with impaired legs could be so agile.
“It’s starting to thunder outside. Stay with me tonight. We can continue what we didn’t finish at the hotel,” Su Chuiyun whispered sweet nothings. “Sister, you know I’m afraid of thunder. I need you to comfort me more.”
Thunder rumbled, and the sky outside the window quickly darkened.
After a moment of silence, Ming Shu declined. “I’m sorry. I have things to attend to now. I must take my leave.”
Ming Shu placed Su Chuiyun back into her wheelchair. After a thought, she took her own coat off her shoulders and draped it over Su Chuiyun. “It’s damp on rainy days, watch out for your legs.”
After a few more instructions, Ming Shu opened her umbrella and walked out into the misty rain.
“Sister Ming Shu?”
Even if Su Chuiyun were a fool, she knew she couldn’t let Ming Shu leave now. Looking at Ming Shu’s face as if she were on the verge of tears, she was likely going to hide somewhere and shut herself away.
Holding her umbrella, Ming Shu closed her eyes in pain. She was also afraid of thunder. Just hearing the sound made her hands tremble. Her lips, which had been flushed a moment ago, instantly turned a deathly pale.
Many years ago, when her adoptive parents found out she liked Su Chuiyun, they beat her and locked her in a basement with only one tiny window. She was starved for three whole days. There was a dusty mirror in that basement every time lightning streaked across the sky, it would illuminate the mirror, reflecting her wretched, rain-soaked face.
In Ming Shu’s memory, she looked like a ghost that night. That was also the night her little sister had sent her a breakup text. The text called her rigid and boring, called her a “licking dog” (a pathetic sycophant), and called her disgusting.
Ming Shu snapped back from the memory, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the umbrella. A bolt of lightning fell across the horizon, illuminating her bloodless face.
As she neared the gate, a security guard in a black uniform stopped her.
“President Ming, I’m sorry. You cannot leave.”
Rain lashed against Ming Shu’s face. Her lips quivered. Although she was no longer the person she once was, the scars etched into her soul ached constantly.
“What?”
“Miss Su said you cannot leave right now. She has not given her consent for your departure.”
