- After the Young Master’s Death, He was Kissed by His Mortal Enemy!
- Chapter 92 - Step Two: Find Her
Shen Ran knew that Cheng Yi was not joking when he said that.
Before the low rumble of Cheng Yi’s voice had even finished echoing in his ears, Shen Ran was unceremoniously dragged away.
Up the stairs, through the door, and before he even had a chance to kick off his shoes, he was pinned against the wall.
“Cheng… nngh… Yi…!”
Unable to even utter a full name, Shen Ran was completely powerless to resist.
Shen Ran felt that this was undoubtedly his most exhausting day in recent memory. During the day, he had to attend the annual meeting at the Shen Group, deal with the suspicions of Shen Xianming and Fu Sijie, and counter Chen Xu’s slander against Cheng Yi. At night, back at home, he was subjected to aerobic exercise by the ever-energetic Cheng Yi—round after round, tireless and relentless.
The night was very long.
Under Cheng Yi’s coercion, Shen Ran lost track of how many times he had to repeat that specific phrase.
“Does Boss Shen want to marry me? Hmm?”
“I… do…”
“Louder, I cannot hear you.”
“I… nngh… I want to marry you!”
The hoarse quality of Cheng Yi’s voice carried an indescribable pleasure. “Who do you want to marry? How can you not say your future spouse’s name?”
“Cheng Yi, do not go too far! I… fine, fine! I want to marry Cheng Yi! I want to marry Cheng Yi!”
Shen Ran forgot how many times he repeated that sentence throughout the night. He only knew that when he woke up, his body ached as if he had been beaten by ten burly men. He opened his mouth to speak and realized his throat was quite raspy.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Finally, Shen Ran gave a sharp kick, sending Cheng Yi and the quilt tumbling off the bed together.
A moment later, Cheng Yi’s voice drifted up from the floor.
“Ranran, are you trying to murder your husband?”
“Murder my husband my foot!” Shen Ran snapped irritably. “Get up. We have work to do. Do not come over here, and do not hug me! I refuse to be all lovey-dovey with you during the day!”
Burning a phone—the very idea sounded absurd. It was even more ridiculous to go to a crematorium to do it.
To maximize the chances of success, Shen Ran and Cheng Yi returned to the exact same crematorium from Shen Ran’s memories. It was located on the outskirts of K City, and it took quite a while to drive there.
Upon arrival, Shen Ran followed his rather unpleasant memories to find the incinerator where Cheng Yi had tossed the phone back then.
“This is the place. This is where you burned my phone.”
Visiting the site again made Shen Ran feel sentimental. He spoke while fiddling with the phone they had prepared for Xiao Dong. A sticky note with Xiao Dong’s name was attached to the back. Since Xiao Dong did not remember his own details, Shen Ran had even considered writing a placeholder ID number on it. What if the phone went to the wrong person? He had to eliminate all risks and accidents.
“So… I am going to throw it in now?”
“Yes, go ahead. We can go home as soon as you are done.”
Shen Ran threw the phone into the incinerator without hesitation. For some reason, Cheng Yi did not seem to want to linger. As soon as the phone was inside, Cheng Yi gently caught Shen Ran’s wrist and led him toward the exit.
“Hey, slow down!”
Shen Ran stumbled slightly before catching up with Cheng Yi’s pace. “There is no need to rush. Xiao Dong is at my house; it is not like he is going anywhere.”
“It is not that. This place makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable.”
From the moment he stepped into the crematorium, Cheng Yi felt as though he could not catch his breath. He remembered nothing of this place and had no mental image of it, yet he felt a deep, inexplicable distress.
A sudden sense of despair flared up in his heart like a flame, making him restless and anxious. Cheng Yi pulled Shen Ran quickly toward the outside. Only when they reached the cold, fresh air did that oppressive feeling begin to dissipate.
He was not Shen Ran. He did not possess the memories Shen Ran spoke of. Yet, for some reason, that feeling lingered in his heart.
On the drive back to the city, Cheng Yi remained uncharacteristically silent. He only occasionally turned to look at Shen Ran, who was staring out the window or daydreaming, and let out a silent sigh.
His Shen Ran must have endured so much more pain than what I am feeling now, right?
Upon returning, the two went straight to Shen Ran’s apartment. Xiao Dong was waiting for them, looking very excited. He held a translucent, glowing phone and stood on his tiptoes to show it to Shen Ran.
“Brother, a phone!”
“Wow!” Shen Ran found it fascinating. “So it really works! I feel like science has ceased to exist in front of us! This is amazing!”
Even more miraculous was the fact that Xiao Dong’s contact information appeared directly in Shen Ran’s gold-and-diamond-encrusted phone. There was no number, and he did not have to search for or add anything; Xiao Dong simply appeared in his contact list.
Shen Ran showed the screen to Cheng Yi and cleared his throat with feigned seriousness.
“Ahem! I believe I have tapped into something mysterious and subtle about this world! I feel like I have a new connection to the universe. Cheng Yi, do you think I am some kind of chosen one sent to save the Earth?”
“Yes, yes, you are the chosen one.” Cheng Yi reached out and ruthlessly ruffled Shen Ran’s hair. “But ‘Chosen One’ is too simple for you. How about I declare you the Emperor of the Spirit Realm instead?”
Xiao Dong held up his phone and joined in. “Emperor Brother! I have an Emperor Brother!”
Being teased like this made Shen Ran feel a bit shy. “Anyway, back to business. We need to move on to the next step!”
Step two was to find the beautiful long-haired woman attached to Chen Xu’s back, which meant they had to find Chen Xu.
New challenges followed immediately. Chen Xu’s home and workplace were not as far as the crematorium, but they were still a significant distance away. Xiao Dong was too young to know the way on his own.
However, Xiao Dong explained that spirits could sense each other’s presence. That was how he had sensed Shen Ran and found him in the first place. As long as they got within a certain distance, Xiao Dong would be drawn to her.
“What a headache!” Shen Ran sighed, flipping his phone over and seeing only a chat interface. “If only this kind of phone could install apps. If I could give Xiao Dong a navigation map, he could find people with precision.”
Cheng Yi laughed. “Daydreaming again, though your imagination is certainly vivid.”
“I just hope the spirit world has some software developers who can work hard to make life easier for everyone. Spirit life depends on us all!”
After some rambling, Shen Ran finalized a plan. He and Cheng Yi would act as human navigation systems and personally deliver Xiao Dong to the vicinity of Chen Xu’s home.
