- After the Young Master’s Death, He was Kissed by His Mortal Enemy!
- Chapter 93 - I Was Killed by Chen Xu Himself
Shen Ran knew exactly where Chen Xu lived.
It was actually quite embarrassing to admit, but Shen Ran had ordered takeout for Chen Xu many times in the past. Of course, it was always Chen Xu who asked for it, he was such a cheapskate.
Escorting Xiao Dong to Chen Xu’s house was an activity reserved for a dark and windy night. Yes, a pitch-black, moonless night.
Shen Ran and Cheng Yi strode purposefully down the wide, deserted road, with little Xiao Dong walking seriously between them.
The reason they chose to walk instead of drive was that they wanted Xiao Dong to learn the route, and Chen Xu’s house was not particularly far away. If this situation could not be resolved in a single trip, Xiao Dong would likely have to make the journey several more times. They could not pick him up and drop him off every single time; otherwise, it would feel a bit too much like parents taking their child to school. Besides, if Xiao Dong knew the way, “floating” there would be much faster than walking.
Of course, the only shadows cast by the streetlights belonged to the two tall adults.
Shen Ran finally could not help but complain again. “Cheng Yi, I have another question. Why did we go out during the day to burn the phone, but now we have to come out late at night?”
“Xiao Dong is a good kid, not some evil ghost. He is not afraid of the sun. We clearly could have picked a bright, sunny day, right?”
Xiao Dong seemed to want to know the reason as well. Although Cheng Yi could not see his expression at the moment, Xiao Dong looked up, staring at Cheng Yi with a thirst for knowledge.
“Why?” Cheng Yi feigned deep thought. “Probably because going out at night fits our character archetypes better for this kind of thing.”
“What are our archetypes?” Shen Ran asked.
“One human, one spirit, and one vaguely defined idiot Boss Shen.”
“Cheng Yi, you and your sharp tongue again! I am telling you, tonight you are forbidden from…”
If it were not for the innocent Xiao Dong being present, Shen Ran would have said all sorts of scandalous things. But now, he could only cut his threat halfway and shut his mouth indignantly.
Cheng Yi would surely understand what he meant anyway.
Cheng Yi was a man who knew when to yield for the sake of, ahem, harmony. He immediately chose to back down.
“Ranran, I was wrong. You are not an idiot Boss Shen. You are super smart, wise, meticulous, and farsighted. I will follow you forever.”
“For some reason, even though you are flattering me, I feel like you are being sarcastic because you are so used to being mean,” Shen Ran muttered gloomily.
The two men and the little spirit strolled toward the residential complex where Chen Xu lived. As they neared the area, Xiao Dong suddenly looked up as if sensing something and peered in a specific direction.
“I feel it. Over there.”
Without needing Shen Ran to point the way, Xiao Dong started walking toward the complex with his small steps. Shen Ran observed that Xiao Dong was indeed heading toward the building where Chen Xu lived.
Shen Ran whispered a final instruction from behind: “Xiao Dong! After you find the big sister, just give her the phone! Tell her that Brother Shen Ran is looking for her and ask her to call me!”
Xiao Dong waved to show he understood and then broke into a run. His small figure soon disappeared into the distance. Shen Ran clapped his hands as if he had accomplished a great mission. Now, all they had to do was wait for the phone to ring.
“Do you plan on waiting right here? Making a phone call standing in the middle of the street?”
“Yeah, why not?” Shen Ran asked sincerely.
Cheng Yi looked at him as if he were a fool, finally sighed helplessly, and gently caught his wrist.
“Hey! Cheng Yi, where are you taking me? Xiao Dong won’t be able to find us when he comes out!”
“We are going to find a suitable place to wait for the call, obviously.”
Without further discussion, Cheng Yi led Shen Ran to a nearby hotel and booked a room. “We will stay here for the time being.”
Shen Ran realized the logic belatedly. “Oh! Right! It might look a bit strange to stand on the street talking to a spirit.”
With that settled, the two sat on the hotel bed and waited patiently. Sitting on a hotel bed… it was very private and would not disturb anyone else. However, the atmosphere felt a bit unusual.
Because they were sitting so close, any slight movement from Shen Ran caused his thigh to brush against Cheng Yi’s. Although Cheng Yi’s face remained expressionless, Shen Ran noticed a slight tension in the fabric of Cheng Yi’s trousers.
Was he tensing his leg, or…
Fortunately, the phone rang shortly after, interrupting Shen Ran’s wandering thoughts and dissipating the tension in the air. Shen Ran scrambled to answer the call, remembering to put it on speaker.
His voice trembled slightly as he spoke. “Hello? Hi?”
After a brief silence, a woman’s voice came through the receiver. “Hello. You are Shen Ran, right?”
Since the phone had been “burned” to the spirit realm by Cheng Yi, his voice was also clear to the caller, and he could hear her perfectly through the speaker. Shen Ran nodded before realizing she could not see him.
“I am Shen Ran! Sister, did you have something to tell me the other day? And if it is convenient, may I know your name?”
“You should have heard my name before,” the woman said softly. “My name is… Huang Yiheng.”
Huang Yiheng?
Shen Ran was confused at first because it was not a famous name. But it felt strangely familiar. Huang Yiheng, Huang Yiheng…
He remembered! Huang Yiheng was the incredibly talented senior student that countless professors talked about back in university! Once he recalled that small detail, other memories came rushing back.
Shen Ran had never dealt with her directly, but he had heard her name countless times from seniors, friends, and teachers. Huang Yiheng was beautiful, talented, and highly capable. She was extremely famous during her time at school. She was bright and charming, with high emotional intelligence, able to talk to anyone and draw everyone’s attention.
“Senior, of course I know you! You were amazing back then!”
Hearing this, Huang Yiheng seemed to let out a bitter laugh. “Amazing? That was a long time ago. Actually, even if I do not say it, you can probably guess how I died, right?”
“Um…”
“I was killed by Chen Xu’s own hands.”
