- Chapter 91 - Shen Ran, Do You Want to Get Married?
Shen Ran shuddered. The world had truly gone mad if Cheng Yi was now referring to himself as gentle!
Getting back to the point, Shen Ran had introduced Xiao Dong to Cheng Yi for a reason. It was not just so the two men and one spirit could have a chat. He needed to prove that spirits actually existed so that Cheng Yi would not claim his brain was broken later on.
Before discussing business, Shen Ran settled Xiao Dong in.
“Xiao Dong, has it been really boring being home alone lately? Come on, while we are both here, I will turn on the TV for you.”
No child can resist television. Xiao Dong was delighted and followed Shen Ran happily. Before long, the little spirit was sitting weightlessly on the sofa, completely focused on the screen.
“Cheng Yi, let me tell you. Even though you have never seen it, there is a beautiful lady with long hair constantly clinging to Chen Xu’s back!”
Shen Ran spoke with animated gestures and a lively tone. To Cheng Yi, it sounded less like a ghost story and more like juicy gossip.
“Oh? A woman with long hair? Tell me more.”
Shen Ran then chattered away, using his hands to describe everything that had happened with the woman.
“That is basically the gist of it. I really feel like she has something to say to me, but she has only appeared twice for a brief moment. We have not been able to have a proper conversation.”
Cheng Yi leaned his arms against the balcony railing, his brow furrowed in thought.
“I remember you telling me that your spirit followed your phone. If that woman can only stay attached to Chen Xu’s back, that sounds quite unusual.”
“Exactly!” Shen Ran nodded like a chick pecking at grain. “Cheng Yi, we really are on the same page! I previously suspected that Chen Xu might be a murderer with blood on his hands, which is why that woman is…”
Shen Ran laid out his analysis point by point. It was logical, and Cheng Yi found himself agreeing. After all, Chen Xu was one of the culprits who had caused Shen Ran’s death in his past life. Now, the man was repeatedly provocative, even chasing Shen Ran all the way to the Shen Group. He could not be let off the hook.
Whether to know their enemy or for other reasons, both agreed that finding that woman to ask about the situation was vital. However, since she was stuck to Chen Xu, interacting with her meant facing the “Explosive Milk Dragon” himself—an encounter neither of them desired.
They both fell into a thoughtful silence. Then, watching Xiao Dong swing his legs on the sofa, Shen Ran had another flash of inspiration.
“Wait! Who says we have to show up? We have one of her own kind right here! We can send our Xiao Dong to find her for us!”
Cheng Yi’s eyes crinkled. “Oh? It is rare for our Ranran to be so clever.”
“What do you mean rare!” Shen Ran protested. “I am brilliant, okay? My brain has always worked perfectly!”
“Oh? Is that so? Then let me ask brilliant Ranran a question. Xiao Dong is so young; his communication skills probably are not that strong yet. Are you sure he can convey your message perfectly, remember what she says, and repeat it back to you word for word?”
Shen Ran went silent. Cheng Yi’s question hit the nail on the head. Xiao Dong was just too small for such a complex task.
But what else could they do? Shen Ran’s mind raced until he felt like his brain might start smoking. Then, he found a solution.
“Cheng Yi, do you think this is possible? When you threw my phone into the incinerator, I ended up with it in this life.” Shen Ran said tentatively. “By that logic, if we burn a phone for Xiao Dong, would he be able to use it too?”
If Xiao Dong had a phone, everything would be much easier.
Cheng Yi did not seem surprised. Instead, his smile deepened. “I think that is quite reasonable. It is worth a try.”
As luck would have it, Cheng Yi had won a phone at the annual meeting today, so they did not even need to buy a new one.
Shen Ran wanted to try it immediately, but it was late. While neither was particularly afraid of the supernatural, some things were better done during the day. Besides, Cheng Yi’s hands were starting to wander.
Glancing at Xiao Dong, who was still glued to the TV, Cheng Yi leaned in with a mischievous air. His palms were warm, but his fingertips still held a slight chill from the cold air outside. Shen Ran gasped, his stomach muscles tightening instinctively.
“Shen Ran, you told your parents today that we have been engaged for a long time. Hmm?”
“That… that was just a temporary tactic! I had no other choice in that situation!” Shen Ran tried to shrink away, feeling a delayed wave of embarrassment.
“Just a tactic?” Cheng Yi narrowed his eyes, his voice dropping an octave. “So, you actually do not want to marry me? Those words were just to trick those two from the Shen family?”
Not again, Shen Ran thought. Why is Cheng Yi getting jealous over nothing again?
“Cheng Yi, you know perfectly well that is not what I meant!” Shen Ran whispered, enduring the other man’s touch.
“Then what did you mean? I am a bit slow, so I really do not know.”
“You… I…”
After a bit of friction, Cheng Yi’s fingers had grown warm. He moved his hand slowly upward, stopping at a specific point. He applied a bit of pressure in a circular motion.
“Tell me. I am waiting.”
Shen Ran gritted his teeth. He felt like he was about to slide right off his feet, but he forced himself to stay upright. Facing Cheng Yi, the words “I want to marry you” felt too awkward to say.
“Cheng Yi, if you want me to talk, stop moving your hand!”
“I am not moving it randomly. I am touching you very deliberately.”
Shen Ran was speechless. Unable to find a retort, he lunged forward and bit Cheng Yi’s neck. “Cheng Yi, do not go too far!”
Cheng Yi hissed in pain, but his smile only grew wider.
“Oh? Throwing yourself into my arms? I accept. I think that pack of tissues Boss Shen won today can be put to good use tonight.”
