- Chapter 6 - My Wife Is About to Be Subjected to Casting Couch!!!
As Shen Yunmiao pushed the door open, she was greeted by a floor littered with shards of glass. She blinked, refrained from screaming, calmly closed the door, and immediately began cleaning up the debris.
Cheng Nianian hid behind the curtains, too afraid to look at her. She admitted she shouldn’t have broken the cup, but it was only because she was unbearably thirsty! Who knew what kind of water dispenser Shen Yunmiao had bought, it was all flashy on the outside but utterly useless on the inside. Just trying to get a drink had nearly electrocuted her.
At first, she could endure it, but by the afternoon, Little Cheng was so parched that her mouth felt dry. She had hoped to sleep until Shen Yunmiao returned, but sleep wouldn’t come. Left with no choice, she painstakingly climbed onto the table and stooped to drink from Shen Yunmiao’s cup.
Thankfully, Shen Yunmiao wasn’t so destitute that she only owned one cup she had a thermos for going out and a glass cup for home use. The cat Little Cheng had transmigrated into was young, with a short neck, so she had to shove her entire head into the cup to drink and as expected, an accident happened.
Her pure white cat head got stuck in the cup.
Little Cheng despaired as she realized she couldn’t pull her head out. She didn’t want to become the first cat to suffocate while trying to steal a drink from a glass cup!
In a panic, Cheng Nianian shook her head violently. Under the influence of the strong centrifugal force, her head and the cup soon separated, accompanied by a “crack,” the glass cup fell to the floor and shattered into pieces.
Before Little Cheng could even take a few relieved breaths, she was confronted with the mess on the floor. She dreaded to think how Shen Yunmiao, who had just finished a long day of filming, would react to this scene. Could she possibly claim the cup had fallen on its own?
Forget whether Shen Yunmiao would believe it, even she herself wouldn’t.
Besides, the only three words she could utter now were: “Meow,” “Mrow,” and “Awoo.”
Which of these could possibly explain the situation clearly? Even someone as clever as Little Cheng was stumped.
She waited in despair for her sentence. The seconds ticked by agonizingly slowly until, finally, Shen Yunmiao returned.
Whether she was going to be kicked out or beaten severely, Little Cheng was ready to accept it. After all, Shen Yunmiao had kindly taken in a stray cat like her, who probably wouldn’t have survived a single day outside, and here she was, repaying kindness with destruction by breaking her cup.
If Little Cheng were in Shen Yunmiao’s shoes, she would have impatiently asked the housekeeper to shoo the cat out immediately.
What would Shen Yunmiao do?
Her heart pounded with unbearable tension.
Outside the curtains, the young woman was still crouched on the floor, diligently cleaning up the mess. But Little Cheng knew it wouldn’t be long before she finished. And then… For the first time, Cheng Nianian was terrified of facing someone.
She silently prayed that Shen Yunmiao would take her time finding her.
Soon, the person on the floor stood up, having finished cleaning. Little Cheng’s heart raced.
Reflecting on the short time since she had transmigrated into this cat, she hadn’t been afraid when fighting with the black cat, nor when children chased her wanting to cook her, nor when scaling a two-meter wall, nor even when cornered by wild dogs in an alley.
But at this moment, Little Cheng was genuinely scared.
Scared of being abandoned, scared of being thrown out, scared of dying silently and unnoticed as just a cat.
She had thought Shen Yunmiao would take a while to find her, especially since she had checked and noticed the white curtains were opaque. Yet, to her surprise, Shen Yunmiao headed straight in her direction.
Three meters, two meters right in front of her now. Cheng Jianian felt her heart was about to leap out of her chest.
The next moment, Shen Yunmiao lifted the curtain and picked her up. That hand was still warm and soft. Young CEO Cheng’s hands had always been bony, slender, and firm since childhood, so she had never known before that there really were people in the world whose hands were “as soft as tender reeds.”
Shen Yunmiao truly lived up to being the absolute protagonist of this world not only was her face beautiful, but her hands were also so lovely, soft as if boneless, yet undoubtedly strong.
In the storyline, Shen Yunmiao had endured no small amount of hardship in her youth, doing work that could exhaust a person to death, yet these hands showed no trace of such toil.
On the contrary, they exuded the elegance of a life of privilege, making one feel, even without seeing her face, that this person must be a noble and esteemed figure in a high position.
Cheng Jianian was lost in thought for a moment, and by the time she snapped back to reality, she was already sitting on Shen Yunmiao’s lap. The girl and the cat resumed their face-to-face position.
Just like that, unobstructed, she met those pure, clear black eyes, and the surroundings were once again enveloped in a chilly aura, like the first snow and fresh ice.
The little CEO-branded kitten blinked guiltily but couldn’t break free.
Unexpectedly, those almond-shaped eyes held no trace of anger or disappointment, remaining as clean and beautiful as early autumn dew, their dark pupils layered like splashes of ink.
Her voice was gentle: “Sweetie, do you not like using this water dispenser? Why did you go drink from my cup?”
Cheng Jianian’s frantically pounding heart slowly calmed down. It wasn’t just her heartbeat that stilled for a moment, she felt as if all sound had vanished, leaving nothing around her but those moist eyes fixed intently on her.
“Meow.”
How did you know?
“Meow, meow.”
Do you know that piece of junk you bought leaks electricity!
“Meow, meow, meow.”
Breaking your cup wasn’t on purpose.
By the end of her meowing, the little CEO, for the first time, nestled into someone’s arms with grievance. Shen Yunmiao didn’t resist, as if she knew exactly what she was thinking, and held her close, softly comforting her: “Sweetie, I’m sorry. Big sister will work hard to earn money and buy you a better, prettier water dispenser, okay?”
“Meow.”
Hmph, good or not, just make sure it doesn’t leak electricity.
She meowed and grumbled for a long while, and it took Shen Yunmiao holding and coaxing her for some time before she finally calmed down. If other cat owners found out, they’d be shocked, it was the first time they’d seen someone apologize to a cat after it caused trouble.
Once her emotions had settled a bit, the little CEO belatedly realized what she had done. Damn it, she wasn’t some ordinary cat, how could she be so shameless as to burrow into someone’s arms? Blushing, Cheng Jianian struggled to free herself.
Only to be tucked back in.
Cheng Jianian stared blankly at Shen Yunmiao’s hand, hearing her say: “Sweetie, don’t be afraid. Big sister is here. Come, let me hold you.”
“…”
Your sweetie doesn’t want you to hold her.
A cat under the eaves must lower its head. After struggling for a moment, Miss Cheng compromised, burying her face indignantly into Shen Yunmiao’s chest. Damn, she really is the female lead.
The tips of the pure white cat’s ears, without a single stray hair, suddenly burned red. This time, it wasn’t something she could compromise on this was a matter of principle!
Cheng Jianian struggled to break free, trying to get some fresh air.
To no avail. Seeing her struggle, Shen Yunmiao hugged the little kitten even more tightly, seemingly trying to soothe her.
“Be good, don’t squirm around.”
It really was best not to move recklessly this spot was too sensitive. A single misstep could affect the entire situation. Little CEO Cheng was completely numb, slowly closing her eyes and waiting for this “good sister” to willingly let her go.
Fortunately, she was soon rescued by the urgent ringing of the doorbell.
Shen Yunmiao had no choice but to put down the little white cat in her arms, though she couldn’t resist giving it a couple of reluctant rubs before doing so.
Little CEO Cheng couldn’t dodge in time and scrunched up her face as her belly was rubbed.
How could someone’s hands be so cold!
Little CEO Cheng, now serving as a feline hand-warmer, was quite displeased. She let out a couple of meows, then suddenly realized something was off, who could be visiting so late at night?
Could it be some ill-intentioned troublemaker? In the original storyline, Shen Yunmiao had encountered more than her fair share of such misfortunes.
Having weathered many storms, Little CEO Cheng’s heart tightened. She followed Shen Yunmiao closely to the door, tugging at her pant leg in an attempt to stop her from opening it.
“Meow, meow!”
It’s dangerous!
“Meow, meow, meow!”
Why don’t you learn from past mistakes?
In her memory, Shen Yunmiao had faced a similar situation before back in high school, while changing in the locker room, someone had knocked on the door.
Shen Yunmiao opened it, only to find a group of bullies with their phones out, ready to strip her and take photos. Luckily, Ji Hanfeng arrived just in time to rescue her.
It was that incident that brought the male and female leads together, setting the story in motion.
Cheng Jianian vaguely recalled that, in the original plot, she was the one who had instigated those scoundrels to do it. But in reality, Cheng Jianian was completely unfamiliar with those people far less so than she was with Shen Yunmiao.
At the very least, she remembered Shen Yunmiao’s face and knew she was a strikingly beautiful high school classmate. As for that group, trash belongs in the trash can, unworthy of being remembered.
Shen Yunmiao, sensing her resistance, crouched down and gently rubbed her little head. “Be good now, you’ll be able to drink water soon.”
Seeing that she couldn’t dissuade her, Little CEO Cheng gave up. Resigned, she unsheathed her claws and arched her back, ready to fight at a moment’s notice.
A pale hand grasped the doorknob, pressed down lightly, and the door swung open. The motion-sensor light in the hallway flickered on.
“Meow, roar!”
The little white cat launched herself like a projectile, prepared to strike a decisive blow.
Huh? No one’s there?
Having failed to find an enemy in thin air, she was scooped up along with the takeout bag hanging on the outer handle and carried back inside by Shen Yunmiao.
Shen Yunmiao’s voice was tinged with laughter. “Is my good kitty just too eager to try out the new water dispenser?”
Little CEO Cheng, whose dignity had now been utterly shattered: “Meow.”
Shen Yunmiao carefully unwrapped the layers of packaging. “I just ordered this online. See if you like it, okay? Let’s not use the old one anymore.”
Cheng Jianian stared guiltily at the brand-new water dispenser inside. It looked expensive. How could the female lead, who was already so strapped for cash, buy her something so pricey? Was she out of her mind?
She nudged the adorable, practical, and clearly high-quality water dispister away, signaling her refusal.
Shen Yunmiao frowned slightly. “Don’t you like it?”
She picked up the new dispenser, examined it, plugged it in, and tested it again. No electric leakage so why wouldn’t she like it?
Shen Yunmiao sighed inwardly. She had installed surveillance cameras at home long ago, and during a break from filming today, she happened to catch the little white cat’s unusual behavior. Upon returning and testing it as the seller instructed, she confirmed the old one was leaking electricity and hurriedly picked out a new one.
Who would have thought the kitten wouldn’t like it?
“Then let’s put this one away for now and buy a different one, okay?” she patiently asked the kitten for her opinion.
“…?”
Young Master Cheng was utterly baffled. How could someone be so wasteful? A normal person would simply decline something they didn’t like, so why was Shen Yunmiao keeping it despite her dislike?
Reluctantly, she gritted her teeth and pulled the water dispenser back, resigning herself to the situation. “Fine, I like it. Happy now?” she muttered in defeat.
Shen Yunmiao watched her actions, blinked, and suppressed a laugh. “As long as you like it, dear.”
She installed the water dispenser, tested it to make sure everything was working properly, and only then dared to use it.
Just then, a WeChat notification popped up on her phone screen.
Cheng Jianian happened to be leaning over the desk and tilted her head to catch a glimpse.
Director Jian: Xiao Shen, are you home? Let me know when you get back safely. Next time, just come stay at my place in the evening. I forgot to mention it earlier, I booked a presidential suite with two bedrooms.
Director Jian?
A presidential suite???
Staying over at night???
Recalling what Ji Hanfeng had said the day before, Young Master Cheng felt her vision darken. Was this female lead cursed or something? How did she always attract such bizarre situations?!
