- Chapter 35.1 - We’re Going to Film
The two of them stayed on the island for a few more days, only reluctantly returning when exams were approaching.
After coming back, Cheng Jianian naturally gathered her things and prepared to move in with Shen Yunmiao. Shen Yunmiao didn’t want to refuse and disappoint her, but she laid down some ground rules in advance: “Exams are coming up soon. We need to focus and get plenty of rest.”
As she spoke, her tongue felt a bit uncooperative, and her face began to flush.
Cheng Jianian was momentarily stunned before realizing what she meant and quickly said, “Of course! I just want to sleep with you, it’s really comfortable.”
“Miaomiao,” she pouted, feeling wronged, “I’m not someone with a sex addiction.”
“Alright!” Shen Yunmiao covered her mouth, “I know you’re not.”
Cheng Jianian, still looking aggrieved, placed her pillow next to Shen Yunmiao’s and swapped out their pillowcases, sheets, and duvet covers for matching couple sets.
Instantly, the room took on a fresh, newlywed-like atmosphere.
Shen Yunmiao was startled by her own thoughts and silently warned herself not to overthink things.
True to her word, Cheng Jianian only held her while sleeping at night and didn’t do anything more. The exam period stretched over an entire week, leaving them both exhausted by the end.
Before Shen Yunmiao could even catch her breath, Yang Xu called on the evening after the exams to remind her not to forget the red carpet event in two days.
Checking the date, Shen Yunmiao suddenly remembered the awards ceremony was the day after tomorrow, and she hadn’t prepared for it at all.
Yang Xu seemed to sense her dazed state and, not daring to let the future boss’s wife worry, quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry. A couple of days ago, CEO Cheng arranged for you to sign a few contracts remember? Anyway, the outfits and accessories will all be provided by the brands, so there’s nothing to worry about.”
There had indeed been contracts a couple of days ago. It was early in the morning, right after waking up, when Cheng Jianian brought over a stack of contracts for her to sign. Shen Yunmiao, having taken four exams the day before, was still in a daze and signed the entire pile without a second thought.
Only afterward did she snap out of it and ask Cheng Jianian, what they were for.
Cheng Jianian grinned at her, “Contracts, of course. I secured a couple of decent ones for you. You’ll be filming some ads in a few days.”
She even had the nerve to scold her, “Honestly, Miaomiao, you need to be more cautious. How could you sign such important documents without even reading them?”
Of course, she knew better than anyone that it was because she was the one handing them over, in Miaomiao’s mind, anything from her was safe.
But that didn’t stop her from feigning innocence after getting her way.
Shen Yunmiao sighed helplessly, “Bring them over. I’ll take a look now.”
Cheng Jianian tugged her up, “Too late, I’ve already reviewed them for you. Hurry up and get ready for your exam, you have another one at ten.”
So Shen Yunmiao got up and spent the day taking exams with her again.
Only now, with a moment to spare and prompted by Yang Xu’s reminder, did it dawn on her.
Surprised, she asked, “Sister Yang Xu, I have a question. When signing contracts, is it normal for both parties not to be present?”
Yang Xu finally understood her artist probably had no idea just how lucrative these endorsement deals were.
Her lips twitched, “Well usually, yes. But CEO Cheng might have arranged something different with the other party, considering your tight schedule.”
“Nonsense,” Yang Xu thought with a heartache, already worrying about what would happen to her artist if one day the boss were to abandon her after toying with her affections.
It seemed like this artist had absolutely no ability to survive in the entertainment industry on her own, she didn’t even understand the most basic rules.
Not to mention her current resources and such a high starting point.
Shen Yunmiao, unaware of Yang Xu’s thoughts, smiled gently and said, “Maybe she feels it’s unnecessary to waste time on such things. But is that really okay? I’ll talk to her later and ask her not to do this again.”
Yang Xu quickly declined, “Oh no, no need! Since President Cheng is doing this, she must have already made arrangements with the other side.”
How terrifying it would be if the boss found out she had inadvertently revealed the real rules of the entertainment industry to Xiao Yunmiao, she’d be furious for sure.
Yang Xu thought to herself, Well, it doesn’t look like these two are going to break up anytime soon, so why worry?
Shen Yunmiao didn’t say anything more. She listened as Yang Xu gave her a long list of instructions, committing each one to memory. It all sounded quite complicated walking the red carpet, attending banquets.
When it came to winning awards, she suddenly thought of something and asked quietly, “Sister Yang Xu, is there a cash prize for winning an award?”
Yang Xu: “…”
Two days passed quickly. After finishing her exams, Shen Yunmiao spent her time either reading scripts at home or studying the award ceremony procedures. In the blink of an eye, the day arrived.
Cheng Jianian seemed completely unfazed by the event. It wasn’t until the afternoon that she said, “I had Zuo Ying bring over a few outfits. You can wear one of them later. I’ll go with you.”
It sounded like she had already arranged everything. Shen Yunmiao was a bit surprised, “Are you in a movie too?”
The Golden Glory Awards covered films released from last summer to this summer, and as far as she could recall, Cheng Jianian hadn’t starred in any movies this past year.
Cheng Jianian replied casually, “What’s there to worry about? You don’t need to win an award to attend.”
Shen Yunmiao had no objections to her carefree attitude but reminded her, “Then, will you walk the red carpet? Sister Yang Xu told me a lot about red carpet etiquette. If you’re going without prior notice, it’s best to join in the middle of the lineup so you won’t be.”
Shen Yunmiao stopped herself abruptly, suddenly realizing that Little Cheng Jianian could walk whenever she pleased, no one would dare to question her.
Cheng Jianian shrugged, “It’s fine. I’ll just walk with you. The organizers are on our side, so what’s there to worry about?”
Shen Yunmiao: “…”
She had been slow to react. Of course, Mercury was hosting the event this time. There was nothing to worry about.
She could even lie down on the red carpet if she wanted, and it wouldn’t be a problem.
Cheng Jianian, however, wasn’t thinking along those lines. She felt a faint sense of tension because, in her memory, this part was also part of the plot. In this segment of the story, Shen Yunmiao’s red carpet timing was deliberately sabotaged.
Moreover, something was spilled on the ground, tearing the borrowed gown and causing a lot of trouble.
Right before the awards ceremony, she was also “accidentally” splashed with wine.
She had to stick close to Miaomiao to prevent any mishaps.
Cheng Jianian tried to reassure herself that these were all coincidences, the plot wasn’t really that terrifying.
But on the other hand, she couldn’t help feeling anxious and nervous.
Noticing her distracted expression, Shen Yunmiao walked over and gently squeezed her fingertips, “What are you thinking about?”
Little Cheng Jianian pulled her into a hug, “Thinking about kissing you.”
Then she leaned down and gave her a kiss.
After getting into a relationship, the two of them would often engage in these intimate, clingy moments anytime, anywhere.
It wasn’t until Zuo Ying rang the doorbell that they finally separated. Cheng Jianian opened the door and looked at the several large boxes outside, frowning irritably, “Why are there so many?”
Zuo Ying was also helpless. “These were prepared by the brand. They said you could choose whichever style you prefer.”
She greeted the dark-haired, fair-skinned beauty behind her, “Miss Shen.”
It had been a few weeks since they last met, and Miss Shen seemed even more beautiful than before.
The simple loungewear made her appear gentle and elegant, like a lotus rising from the water, with an outstanding aura.
Shen Yunmiao also greeted Zuo Ying, “President Zuo.”
“Oh, I don’t deserve such a title,” Zuo Ying replied awkwardly, wishing she could find a hole to hide in, thinking to herself, The real boss is the one standing next to you.
Cheng Jianian casually pulled Shen Yunmiao closer. “Take a look and see which one you like.”
Zuo Ying quickly opened each of the large boxes one by one, explaining as she did so, “Should the stylist come here, or will you both go to the styling room later?”
Cheng Jianian glanced at her phone. “Let’s go there. If they come here, it’ll just end up a mess.”
Besides, she didn’t want outsiders coming here.
Although the room wasn’t large and the location wasn’t particularly great, Cheng Jianian had already started to regard this place as home her and Shen Yunmiao’s home.
Humans naturally have a sense of belonging and possessiveness toward their home, much like animals who don’t want others of their kind stepping into their territory.
In the end, the two of them each picked a gown. Shen Yunmiao still preferred lighter colors and chose a white evening dress, a relatively understated, form-fitting gown.
It had a sweetheart neckline and a cinched waist, but from the collarbone upward, there was a layer of white tulle, making it not too revealing. The tulle extended to the sleeves, draping down to the forearms like butterfly wings.
A string of pearls adorned the layered skirt, which resembled white coral reefs, giving it a holy and noble appearance.
Cheng Jianian casually picked a dark gray dress, also fitted at the waist but with a voluminous skirt adorned with countless diamonds, dazzling and radiant.
One light, one dark the outfits they wore complemented each other perfectly.
As for their hair and makeup, Shen Yunmiao, wearing the evening gown, had her hair styled into a loose braid, giving off a youthful, pastoral vibe.
Cheng Jianian’s brown long hair was left mostly untouched, softly cascading down.
Both of them were naturally stunning, so makeup only served as a subtle enhancement.
Cheng Jianian’s hairstyle was simpler, and once it was done, she kept hovering around Shen Yunmiao, showing a bit of anxiety. “Miaomiao, you mustn’t wander off later. Stay with me, okay?”
Shen Yunmiao chuckled. “Alright, I’ll stick by your side every step of the way. Don’t worry, I’m not a child.”
“Hmph,” Cheng Jianian scoffed. “I wouldn’t care if you were a child. I only care about your safety.”
Shen Yunmiao’s heart softened. She took Cheng Jianian’s hand, pulled out a tissue, and gently wiped away the sweat from her palm sweat born of nervousness. Her voice was tender as she asked, “Why are your hands so sweaty?”
The light from the vanity mirror was stark white, illuminating Shen Yunmiao’s dark eyes with a holy glow. For a moment, Cheng Jianian was lost in thought, feeling as if she had returned to her days as a cat, having her paws gently held and wiped clean.
Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke, “My hands are a bit slippery. It’s nothing.”
Shen Yunmiao tossed the used tissue aside. By then, their hair and makeup were almost done, so she stood up and looked at the person crouching beside her, her dress spread out on the floor. She sighed helplessly, “Your dress is all dirty now.”
Cheng Jianian didn’t mind it at all. “What’s the big deal? Clothes are meant to be worn, and they’re bound to get dirty.”
Shen Yunmiao gently squeezed her fingertips and agreed, “You’re right. Nothing in this world is more important than you.”
“There is something,” Cheng Jianian said, pulling her into a hug and gazing at her with tender eyes. “Your eyes.”
