After the Vicious Supporting Female Character Became the Heroine's Cat - Chapter 35.2
Shen Yunmiao’s heart raced.
The makeup artist pretended not to hear anything and quietly stayed in the background.
Feeling a bit flustered by the crowd, Shen Yunmiao tugged Cheng Jianian away, muttering, “We can’t be late. Let’s hurry.”
They were already very close to the red carpet. Cheng Jianian laughed as she was being dragged along. “What’s wrong? Are you embarrassed?”
Shen Yunmiao felt like hitting her. “Shut up!”
The tips of her ears turned red.
As they chatted, it was time to walk the red carpet. Facing so many spotlights and cameras for the first time, Shen Yunmiao’s heart couldn’t help but beat a little faster.
Cheng Jianian held her tightly in a protective stance. “Relax, it’s no big deal. Don’t worry. Even if you lay down right here, I guarantee there won’t be any reports about it tomorrow.”
Shen Yunmiao shot her a soft glare. “Why would I lay down here?”
“I don’t know. But whatever the reason, if you feel like lying down, just lie down.”
Cheng Jianian looked down at her, her gray eyes filled with deep amusement.
Shen Yunmiao: “…”
Under the flashing lights, even her sigh seemed tense. “You seem much better now than before we came. Oh, by the way, aren’t we supposed to stay quiet while walking the red carpet?”
Cheng Jianian shrugged. “What does it matter? They’ll just capture our good expressions anyway.”
Shen Yunmiao thought to herself that the media covering this “ancestor” of hers really had it rough.
As she spoke, Cheng Jianian carefully scanned the path beneath their feet. Thankfully, there was nothing there.
Shen Yunmiao didn’t notice her tension. Half-held and half-guided, she quickly made it through the red carpet. The host handed them two pens. “Ms. Cheng, Ms. Shen, please sign here.”
Surprised by the host’s respectful demeanor, Shen Yunmiao took the pen and quickly signed her name.
Cheng Jianian waited until she finished before starting to write, placing her signature neatly to the left of Shen Yunmiao’s. Then, with a flourish, she drew a heart around both names. “Hmm, that looks much better.”
Shen Yunmiao found it amusing and whispered, “That’s way too obvious.”
Cheng Jianian shrugged. “So what if it’s obvious? It’s not like I’m kissing you right now.”
With the red carpet behind them, Cheng Jianian still couldn’t fully relax. She stayed by Shen Yunmiao’s side, not leaving her for a moment before the awards ceremony.
Shen Yunmiao noticed that Cheng Jianian wasn’t paying attention to who might win the award but was instead staring intently at her.
Suddenly feeling uneasy, she looked at Cheng Jianian. “A’Nian, are you really worried something might happen to me?”
The awards ceremony was about to begin. In just two or three minutes, the first award Best Newcomer would be announced. Cheng Jianian was on high alert, her heart racing with anxiety. Distractedly, she looked at Shen Yunmiao, not even realizing what she was saying. “Hmm…”
Shen Yunmiao gently stroked her slender, delicate fingers, trying to soothe her. “Look into my eyes.”
Cheng Jianian, still keeping an eye on their surroundings, lifted her gaze to meet those gentle dark eyes. “Hmm?”
The harsh white glare of the camera lights was softened by those moist, gentle dark eyes, like an ink wash painting. She couldn’t help but be drawn to those beautiful dark eyes. Shen Yunmiao said, “If you don’t want this to happen, it won’t. I promise you.”
Those dark eyes seemed to hold a strange magic. In an instant, Cheng Jianian felt as if she had fallen into an eerie world, a place without the clamor of the crowd, just her and Shen Yunmiao. Shen Yunmiao gazed at her softly, wordlessly, yet stirring her soul.
“I don’t want anything to happen to you,” Cheng Jianian murmured softly, almost to herself.
“Then it won’t,” Shen Yunmiao assured her, her eyes fixed on Cheng Jianian.
The host’s voice rang out, announcing the beginning of the award ceremony. Cheng Jianian snapped back to reality, feeling as though her soul had been abruptly yanked back into her body. For a moment, it seemed as if her consciousness had drifted away, and the host’s voice had pulled her completely back to the present.
Her palms were drenched in cold sweat.
Shen Yunmiao looked at her with concern. “What’s wrong?”
Cheng Jianian gripped Shen Yunmiao’s wrist tightly. The cool, smooth texture of her jade-like skin brought her back to her senses. “Miaomiao, what did you just say?”
Shen Yunmiao frowned slightly. “I didn’t say anything.” She only felt a bit dazed, as if she had been comforting the person in front of her, but she couldn’t recall the exact words. She offered a gentle smile. “Maybe I was just telling you not to worry so much.”
Cheng Jianian stared silently at those eyes that had almost made her lose herself, unable to utter a word. Finally, she lowered her gaze despondently. “Yeah, I was just too nervous. I almost started hallucinating. Let’s listen carefully now.”
As expected, the host announced Shen Yunmiao as the winner.
Shen Yunmiao wasn’t surprised. Yang Xu had already told her the day before that she would likely win one of the two awards or possibly both. After all, the ceremony was organized by Mercury Entertainment. No one would dare question it if CEO Cheng gave all the awards to his girlfriend.
On stage, Shen Yunmiao smoothly recited the acceptance speech Yang Xu had prepared for her. At the end, her gaze cut through the dazzling lights and met Cheng Jianian’s focused eyes. Their eyes locked, and her heart raced. She added, “Lastly, I want to thank the person I love deeply and who loves me deeply.”
It’s the same person, she added silently in her heart.
Cheng Jianian’s lips curved into a faint smile.
After stepping off the stage, Shen Yunmiao returned to her seat and said playfully, “The person I thanked at the end was Little C.”
Cheng Jianian rested her chin on her hand and looked at her. “Little C already knew.”
The two shared a knowing smile.
Nothing unfortunate happened for the rest of the ceremony. It seemed like just an ordinary event, free from any of the misfortunes Cheng Jianian had feared. She told herself not to overthink it, but that strange, almost supernatural memory lingered in her mind like a piece of code, running endlessly without beginning or end.
Shen Yunmiao could sense the heavy atmosphere around her.
On the way back, she moved closer to Cheng Jianian. “A’Nian, what’s wrong?”
The partition between the seats had already been discreetly raised. Cheng Jianian pulled Shen Yunmiao onto her lap and buried her face in the warmth of her embrace.
“I missed you so much it hurt.”
“Why miss me? I’m right here with you.”
Cheng Jianian murmured softly, “I don’t know. I’m so afraid you’ll suddenly disappear. I keep feeling like you’re going to leave me.”
Shen Yunmiao wrapped her arms around Cheng’s neck, trying to use her own body warmth to help the other relax. “Don’t be afraid. I won’t leave you.”
Sometimes, the more reassurance one receives, the more fear takes hold.
Cheng Jianian didn’t know whether today’s altered circumstances had any connection to those nightmare-like conversations, nor did she understand what they truly meant.
Her mind felt chaotic, unable to see anything clearly.
Choking back sobs, she sought the warmth she desperately needed in Shen Yunmiao’s embrace.
Shen Yunmiao held her tenderly, heart aching.
When Cheng Jianian had calmed somewhat, Shen Yunmiao gazed at her tear-streaked face and a peculiar thought surfaced perhaps she should find a way to distract her.
The most effective distraction at this moment. She lowered her head, discreetly performing the boldest act, gently kissing away the traces of tears.
Cheng Jianian froze in surprise.
She blinked, not quite comprehending.
Yet she clearly saw those alabaster-like earlobes flush with a delicate pink.
As if struck by sudden clarity, she understood a little.
Reaching out, she tugged open the pearl chain at the waist.
The loosely draped white gown immediately parted slightly.
Beneath the skirt, two pale legs resembled struggling white clouds, slowly parted by a gentle breeze.
Cheng Jianian leaned against her chest, murmuring indistinctly, “Ah, Miaomiao, your heartbeat is so fast.”
Shen Yunmiao: “…”
She half-resistingly tugged a strand of soft hair.
Keeping her voice hushed, she asked, “Are you still upset?”
Little Cheng Zong smiled without answering, instead countering, “Then are you happy now?”
Shen Yunmiao bit her lip and replied slowly, “Mmm… perhaps.”
Little Cheng Zong lazily pressed her advantage, pretending to complain, “Didn’t you say you were most grateful to me? Clearly not grateful at all.”
Shen Yunmiao imitated her, gently sucking on her beautiful earlobe. “Mmm…”
Cheng Jianian shuddered with emotion.
Two icy hearts warmed through proximity, gradually merging into one, becoming a blazing flame.
Time was always precious. Before long, Shen Yunmiao began filming her next project.
Jian Shen took this production extremely seriously, given the substantial investment that seemed almost limitless.
A great film could not only make an actor but also define a director.
Having wavered for years between art films and commercial cinema, Jian Shen had won numerous awards and earned considerable wealth, yet her recognition within the industry remained middling.
Dedicated art film directors looked down on her, while commercial film purists showed little interest in collaborating.
But Jian Shen had a premonition that this film, if executed well, could become the commercial masterpiece that carried her ideals.
When others claimed commercial films lacked sophistication, she would prove that commercial cinema could convey profound meaning.
For Shen Yunmiao’s makeup alone, she leveraged Cheng Jianian’s connections to assemble a team of renowned stylists and makeup artists.
Shen Yunmiao spent her first two days endlessly changing costumes and testing makeup looks.
Cheng Jianian visited the set daily, her heart aching at the sight.
Coincidentally, Jian Shen discovered that the actress cast as the bully didn’t quite fit the character’s image and grew troubled.
Looking up, her eyes fell upon the readily available film queen radiant and beautiful, cold and sharp, smiling like a poison-laced dagger, utterly piercing.
Yet in tender moments, her warmth felt bone-deep, her smiling eyes breathtakingly lovely.
Wasn’t this the exact embodiment of the image she sought?
Moreover, if Cheng Jianian played this role, the film would effortlessly gain all the buzz it needed.
But to persuade Cheng Jianian. Jian Shen turned her gaze to Shen Yunmiao instead.
Sensing her stare, Shen Yunmiao looked puzzled.
Jian Shen cleared her throat softly and began her persuasion.
Shen Yunmiao hesitated and said, “You should ask her yourself.”
If she were the one to ask, regardless of whether Cheng Jianian wanted to act or not, she would ultimately agree.
Cheng Jianian always listened to her.
This was truly an unbelievable matter.
Shen Yunmiao thought about the bullying plot in the storyline and felt somewhat unsettled.
A deliberately buried memory was faintly aching.
