After the Vicious Supporting Female Character Became the Heroine's Cat - Chapter 33.2
Cheng Jianian seemed quite satisfied. “I never had the time to check on the progress of this place before. Looking at the facilities now, they’re quite good. Once we return, we can start preparing to welcome tourists.”
She had purchased this island a long time ago, intending to develop it into a tourist destination. However, she later realized that the entertainment industry was more profitable with less investment, so she gradually paid less attention to the island.
It had taken several years for construction to be completed, and no one else had set foot here before.
Shen Yunmiao gained a deeper understanding of her girlfriend’s financial standing and thought to herself, “No wonder she never let me pay for meals before those restaurants probably belong to Little C as well.”
Unaware of her girlfriend’s inner musings, Cheng Jianian gazed at the scenery of blue seas and white clouds, feeling quite pleased. She decided she would gift the island to Miaomiao for Qixi Festival.
By then, it would likely be generating some profit, making it a respectable gift.
Speaking of gifts, Cheng Jianian grew irritated.
That persistent Xu Baiyang was always loitering around the campus, causing them to run into him unexpectedly far too often.
What a nuisance.
Every time, he wore an expression of unspoken words, as if he were witnessing some sort of “Beauty and the Beast” pairing.
Cheng Jianian couldn’t figure out what about her rubbed him the wrong way. After they got together, Shen Yunmiao had even shared all her social media account passwords with her.
Cheng Jianian would log in from time to time, and sure enough, she’d always find Xu Baiyang sending “well-meaning” advice. How infuriating.
As the saying goes, “It’s better to destroy ten temples than to break up a marriage.” Xu Baiyang truly deserved to go to hell.
Especially that last time, she had given Miaomiao a diamond ring just for fun, and somehow it had offended Xu Baiyang.
He sent Shen Yunmiao a barrage of messages, essentially warning her to stay vigilant and not be swayed by sweet temptations. He emphasized how hypocritical, cold, and self-serving Cheng Jianian was, claiming she only gave gifts with ulterior motives.
He even brought up Ji Hanfeng.
Reading it all, Cheng Jianian was nearly driven mad and immediately wanted to block him.
In the end, it was only Shen Yunmiao’s persuasion that stopped her.
However, Shen Yunmiao hadn’t refrained from blocking him because she agreed with his words or found them reasonable. Rather, she felt that if they simply blocked him, Xu Baiyang wouldn’t give up.
She had encountered too many people who inexplicably meddled in her affairs, stubbornly causing her distress while believing they were doing good.
So, she carefully composed a message, clearly expressing her gratitude for his concern while explaining the nature of their relationship. She made it clear that she did not appreciate the interference and hoped he would stop.
After a long while, a reply came: 【Okay, I wish you happiness, Yunmiao.】
This time, Shen Yunmiao couldn’t stop Cheng Jianian, who snatched the phone and angrily typed: 【Of course we will be happy, but it’s none of your business.】
Xu Baiyang probably realized who had sent that message, as he never replied again.
Cheng Jianian wanted to scold him a few more times, but Shen Yunmiao stopped her. Shen Yunmiao sighed helplessly, “Just ignore him. Let’s block him.”
She rarely blocked people who meant well toward her, but her girlfriend was more important than these people. She wanted Cheng Jianian to feel a little happier.
After blocking him, Young Miss Cheng’s mood improved slightly.
Of course, she was still a bit upset.
And she had silently held onto it until now. She didn’t want to bring up such a lunatic and make both of them unhappy, so she just cursed him again in her heart.
When they were about to check into the hotel at nine, she brought it up again, but her thoughts weren’t about Xu Baiyang, they were about Ji Hanfeng.
She cautiously asked Shen Yunmiao, “Miaomiao, how’s your relationship with Ji Hanfeng?”
Cheng Jianian knew she was being overly sensitive and that what she was doing was completely unnecessary, but the overwhelming discomfort in her heart felt almost suffocating.
Shen Yunmiao hadn’t expected her to ask about this. She paused for a moment, then smiled and said, “We’re just ordinary friends.”
“He’s a good friend, but there’s nothing more between us.”
As Cheng Jianian hung up her clothes, she asked, “But I feel like he seems.”
Shen Yunmiao interrupted her, “I promise there’s nothing. There won’t be anything between him and me.”
She had long noticed her girlfriend’s ridiculously strong possessiveness and decided to make things clear once and for all.
She said, “A’nian, trust me. Ji Hanfeng and I are absolutely nothing more than friends. And it’s not just him Xu Baiyang, Liang Jue.”
She counted them off on her fingers, not sure how many she listed, before concluding, “In short, these people aren’t even friends. Ji Hanfeng is the only one I consider a friend, and that’s only because he helped me out with some things in the past.”
Cheng Jianian listened in a daze, her ears burning. She knew Yunmiao was worried she might overthink things and quickly clarified, “I know, I know, Miaomiao. I know there’s nothing between you. I’m just a little scared.”
Shen Yunmiao hugged her from behind and whispered, “Don’t worry. I only like you.”
Young Miss Cheng’s mood immediately lifted.
But just then, the phone rang at the most inopportune moment.
Glancing at the caller ID, Jian Shen.
Young Miss Cheng’s mood, which had just improved, soured again. She recalled how, back when she had just turned into a cat, Jian Shen had suggested that Miaomiao stay with her in a hotel. The memory made her feel deeply uncomfortable.
She frowned. “Why is she calling?”
Shen Yunmiao was also exasperated, wondering how Director Jian always managed to call at the worst possible times.
She answered the call. Jian Shen’s voice came through, sounding quite cheerful. She first congratulated Shen Yunmiao on her recent romantic success.
Then, shifting the topic, she cautiously said, “Yunmiao, I heard your school is about to go on break. When do you think you’ll have time to shoot the movie? I’ll coordinate everyone’s schedules.”
As the female lead, Shen Yunmiao only had two consecutive months to film, and she was a newcomer. If it were anyone else, she would have been criticized countless times by the rest of the cast.
But Cheng Jianian had made no effort to hide their relationship, and it was practically semi-public within the industry. Even those who didn’t know the details were aware that Young Miss Cheng was the person backing this newcomer. No one dared to say a word.
Everyone was simply waiting to adjust their schedules to accommodate her.
Shen Yunmiao knew that her current availability was crucial for the film, so she hesitated before asking, “Director Jian, the thing is, I might need to spend some time with Jianian during the summer break. Last time, you mentioned we’d be going to another city for location shooting, right? So I wanted to ask, roughly when are we planning to go?”
Jian Shen let out a couple of “oh, oh”s and quickly replied, “No problem, no problem. Let me check. How about I try to wrap up the location shooting within two days and come back?”
Shen Yunmiao was, of course, immensely grateful.
But then Jian Shen lowered her voice and asked, “Um, Yunmiao, is Little Cheng around you?”
Shen Yunmiao glanced at the person practically leaning over her phone and chuckled inwardly. “Yeah, she’s here.”
Jian Shen panicked, swallowing back what she had intended to say. Unexpectedly, as soon as Cheng Jianian heard she was being asked about, she couldn’t hold back and snatched the phone, asking, “Director Jian, is there something you need? This is Cheng Jianian.”
Faced with this big boss who was like a god of wealth, Jian Shen didn’t dare say much. All the words she had prepared to persuade Shen Yunmiao that she was still young and should think more about her future were swallowed back down.
She fawned, “No, no, it’s nothing. President Cheng, if you two are busy, just go ahead. It’s really nothing.”
“If it’s nothing, then that’s fine,” Cheng Jianian reverted to her usual arrogant and aloof demeanor when dealing with outsiders, her tone cold and detached. “Miaomiao and I are out right now. If there’s anything, just contact Zuo Ying.”
Jian Shen felt a pang of bitterness, realizing she was being seen as an interruption to their outing. She quickly agreed and only breathed a sigh of relief after the call ended.
After hanging up, she checked the calendar and picked two days, estimating the weather and deciding they could head south for the location shoot.
For some reason, she felt a bit uneasy.
Jian Shen shook her head, trying to dispel the inexplicable sense of panic.
The island was incredibly scenic, with excellent facilities.
The temperature was just right, making it perfect for a vacation.
Before bed, Shen Yunmiao secretly stashed the things she had prepared in the bedside table.
Of course, Cheng Jianian had booked a room with a large bed for their trip, though it didn’t particularly feel like a couple’s suite.
Shen Yunmiao breathed a sigh of relief. While Cheng Jianian was tidying up in the living room, she hurriedly hid the items she had brought. Heaven knew how much effort it had taken to get these things through security without Cheng Jianian noticing.
Soon, Cheng Jianian changed into a more practical outfit.
Her hair was tied up, and she wore a baseball cap, a black-and-white baseball jacket casually thrown over a short-sleeved shirt and athletic pants.
It should have been a bright and cheerful look, but with Cheng Jianian’s intense gray eyes, she looked as if she were about to start a brawl.
However, the moment she laid eyes on Shen Yunmiao, the indifference in her gaze melted into tenderness, her eyes crinkling with a smile. “Miaomiao, let’s go to the beach later and have some barbecue.”
Shen Yunmiao nodded, guessing that after the barbecue, there would be other plans probably some surprise Cheng Jianian had arranged.
She changed into a half-skirt, one of the outfits Cheng Jianian had prepared for her. The color was much lighter than what she usually wore, a soft blue that seemed to drape her in a tranquil pool of water.
When they arrived at the barbecue spot, Shen Yunmiao realized Cheng Jianian had arranged for it to be right on the beach. The night sea breeze gently dispersed the summer heat, bringing waves of coolness.
Zuo Ying had arranged a semi-self-service barbecue, and as soon as Cheng Jianian arrived, she got straight to work.
Shen Yunmiao wanted to help but realized her outfit wasn’t suitable for work, so she had to step aside again.
Cheng Jianian told her to sit farther away, saying it was too hot.
Shen Yunmiao smiled, moving her small stool closer instead. “If I sit too far, I’m afraid I won’t hear you clearly.”
The air was fresh here, the night sky studded with twinkling stars.
For a moment, Cheng Jianian wished this instant could last forever.
She glanced at Shen Yunmiao beside her and said cheerfully, “You hold the plate. I’ll put the grilled food on it as soon as it’s ready, and you can start eating.”
Shen Yunmiao then lifted the tray high, as the sea breeze from afar gently caressed her soft strands of hair.
The wind was light, the moon was curved.
Her dark eyes shone brightly.
