- Chapter 33.1 - e're Going on a Trip!
The weather was getting hotter, and with summer vacation approaching, it also meant final exams were just around the corner.
Thanks to Shen Yunmiao’s dedicated tutoring lately, Cheng Jianian didn’t feel the slightest bit stressed about the finals. However, she’d heard that GPA significantly impacted scholarship eligibility, and she wasn’t sure if Shen Yunmiao cared about that.
The two of them were practically glued together every day or more accurately, it was Cheng Jianian clinging to Shen Yunmiao unilaterally. Anyone else would have found it annoying by now, but Shen Yunmiao never seemed bothered. Her dark eyes remained gentle and soft every day.
Cheng Jianian asked Shen Yunmiao, “Miaomiao, are you aiming for a scholarship?”
Shen Yunmiao was momentarily taken aback by the question, then shook her head. “I’m not short on money lately, so I don’t really have much need for it.”
That was the truth. When Shen Yunmiao first started university, she had been strapped for cash and had quite looked forward to scholarships. But after filming one drama and earning a considerable amount, she no longer felt the same way about scholarships.
Cheng Jianian grinned. “Then let’s go out and have some fun these next few days.”
Shen Yunmiao was surprised; she hadn’t expected Cheng Jianian to suggest this.
Cheng Jianian immediately started tugging at her arm, nuzzling and whining like a spoiled child.
There was a week of self-study time before the finals. Originally, Cheng Jianian had worried that Shen Yunmiao might really want the scholarship and wouldn’t be able to go out, but now that she knew otherwise.
Cheng Jianian didn’t want to waste this time. Once summer vacation started, Jian Shen would begin filming, and the two of them would definitely have less time together.
Just thinking about that scenario was unbearable for Cheng Jianian. She wished she could spend all 24 hours of the day by Shen Yunmiao’s side.
She’d even become lax about her usual daily disciplined work routine.
It got to the point where Zuo Ying silently grumbled to herself every day about how obsession with pleasure leads to downfall, and obsession with a person leads to moral decay.
Even during the hours they weren’t together, Cheng Jianian would mostly spend her time reading relationship guides and occasionally using a side account on WeChat to continue sharing snippets of her happy life.
Shen Yunmiao would reply to a couple of messages whenever she had time.
Life was just too comfortable.
So comfortable that Cheng Jianian hadn’t even thought about other activities that could enhance their relationship. A trip sounded pretty good.
But Shen Yunmiao glanced at the problem Cheng Jianian had just asked her about and fell into mild doubt. Hesitantly, she asked, “I don’t have any issues, but Anian will you be able to pass?”
Little Cheng, who had been fantasizing about a wonderful island getaway: “???”
Feeling wronged, she tossed aside that damned advanced math book and tried her best to prove herself. “I actually know this stuff. These problems are all pretty similar, if you get one, you get them all. What I lack right now is just the right moment for everything to click.”
She phrased it diplomatically; she couldn’t very well admit that she’d been pretending to be clueless just to spend more time with her girlfriend, could she?
In truth, Cheng Jianian was quite intelligent. This kind of material was something she could grasp at a glance.
She might not score exceptionally high, but passing was as good as guaranteed.
Seeing how worked up Cheng Jianian was, Shen Yunmiao quickly soothed her. “I know you’re very capable, but if we’re away for a week, you might forget some of what you already know. I’m just worried I might forget, too.”
“How about we cut the trip short by a couple of days?”
That sounded reasonable enough. Little Cheng, now pacified, felt somewhat better and murmured, “Alright, we’ll come back two days early then.”
“What a pity. Miaomiao understood her so well, knowing she had initially planned a week-long trip but now had only five days, so she had to cut out some unnecessary time.”
Cheng Jianian couldn’t wait for Zuo Ying to finalize the travel arrangements.
Zuo Ying acted swiftly, quickly booking flights, hotels, and various activity venues.
After dinner on Friday evening, Shen Yunmiao urged Cheng Jianian to hurry back and pack.
Cheng Jianian brushed it off, saying, “The climate there is definitely different from here. We can just buy more suitable clothes on the island.”
Shen Yunmiao sighed helplessly, “No matter how much money you have, you shouldn’t waste it like that. And what if we can’t find any shops? Should we both go around naked?”
Little Cheng thought it over and realized she had a point, but she couldn’t bear to let Shen Yunmiao do all the work, so she took charge of packing for both of them.
Shen Yunmiao watched as Cheng Jianian moved so quickly that she didn’t even have a chance to help. “?”
She didn’t know what to say. They hadn’t been dating for long, but she could clearly sense that Cheng Jianian’s demeanor was completely different from before.
There was no sign of the laziness she had mentioned that night about people slacking off once they started dating. Instead, Cheng Jianian seemed even more energetic, as if she were on an adrenaline rush every day, with boundless energy.
During classes, Shen Yunmiao would occasionally glance over and catch that spine-chilling, obsessive gaze like a wolf eyeing its prey her gray eyes gleaming.
Shen Yunmiao’s heart would race, and she could only pretend not to notice, quietly turning her head away as if she had been attentively listening to the lecture the whole time.
When they were alone, Little Cheng didn’t even bother holding back, showering her with kisses and licks, all while expertly playing innocent after taking advantage.
After a round of kissing and nibbling, she would look over with a pitiful expression and ask cautiously, “Miaomiao, can I do this?”
By that point, Shen Yunmiao would already be dazed and disoriented from the kisses, her beautiful, gentle dark eyes clouded with a thick haze as she looked back in confusion.
Little Cheng took that as a yes and, unable to resist, would lean in again to savor what was, to her, an irresistibly enticing treat.
They would often linger in such intimacy for a long time, with Shen Yunmiao eventually collapsing weakly in her arms, struggling to regain her senses and muster the resolve to say firmly, “No!”
Only then would Little Cheng reluctantly pull away, wipe her lips, straighten Shen Yunmiao’s clothes, and say with a smile, “Alright.”
After all, there wasn’t much left to do.
Everything that could be done had already been done.
The three rules Shen Yunmiao had laid down that night were completely ignored.
Not only that, but Shen Yunmiao had a feeling that perhaps during this island trip, the two of them might take things a step further.
Not that she was particularly looking forward to it, but some things just needed to be prepared for. For young people, it seemed like a perfectly normal desire.
Every time Cheng Jianian kissed her, with that clingy look in her eyes, Shen Yunmiao couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for her. After all, they lived so close staying together shouldn’t be a big deal right?
Shen Yunmiao didn’t even know what she was daydreaming about anymore. If someone had asked her to consider this a few months ago, she would have found it absurd.
She was someone who remained detached about many things not because she couldn’t perceive them, but precisely because her emotions were so sensitive that she had to force herself to become immune to a lot of things.
Love, something that had once felt so distant from her, suddenly occupied a large part of her life.
It was truly marvelous.
Shen Yunmiao watched the person still diligently tidying up and said awkwardly, “Let me handle it. There are some things only I know how to organize properly.”
Since she had said so, Cheng Jianian couldn’t insist any further and reluctantly stood up. “Alright.”
The idea of traveling right before exams sounded utterly absurd. Fortunately, Shen Yunmiao didn’t have many friends to begin with, so she faced no objections.
Once on the plane, Cheng Jianian, worried that Shen Yunmiao might be uncomfortable on her first flight, had downloaded several gigabytes of videos and a bunch of offline games. She held them out proudly, asking, “Miaomiao, which one do you want to watch or play?”
Seeing the sparkle in Cheng Jianian’s eyes, Shen Yunmiao felt her heart soften and whispered, “Anything is fine.”
Cheng Jianian randomly selected a romance film to play.
As Shen Yunmiao watched the movie, she suddenly remembered that Cheng Jianian had never starred in a romance film before. Curious, she asked, “A’nian, why have you never acted in a romance film?”
Cheng Jianian blinked. “Why are you suddenly asking about this?”
Shen Yunmiao replied, “Just a little curious, that’s all. It’s nothing serious, just a casual question.”
Cheng Jianian grabbed her hand, pulling her closer, and whispered into her ear, “What’s this? You ask but don’t want to know the answer?”
Shen Yunmiao tried to lean away, but there was no escaping. Cheng Jianian’s other arm wrapped around her shoulder, her voice lazy as she explained, “When I was younger, it wasn’t appropriate to act in romance films, and I never came across any particularly good scripts.”
There was another reason Cheng Jianian didn’t dare mention: before meeting Shen Yunmiao, she had always thought love was a ridiculous concept. She couldn’t understand why people would go to such extremes for such an elusive emotion, letting it completely alter the course of their lives.
An actor portrays a segment of life.
If she couldn’t relate to a character’s actions, the performance would inevitably fall flat. Little Cheng had no intention of forcing herself to embrace something she deemed foolish.
But of course, she couldn’t say this to her girlfriend, it would sound far too strange, as if she were some emotionless, detached person.
Gently, Cheng Jianian leaned in and inhaled the soft, sweet scent of Shen Yunmiao’s hair, savoring the crisp, fresh fragrance reminiscent of new snow.
In her heart, she thought, I just hadn’t met the right person before.
But now she had.
Cheng Jianian didn’t know what the future held. The absurd plot corrections, the damned laws of this world none of them would allow them to simply enjoy a carefree romance.
They were like puppets on strings, and disobedience came with only one consequence: being forced to comply.
Her heart felt heavy, but whenever she faced Shen Yunmiao, she buried that weight deep inside.
She didn’t want to make one more person unhappy.
Whether it was the painful memories of the past or the hardships yet to come, she would bear them alone in silence.
Only the joy, she would share with this person.
Cheng Jianian hugged Shen Yunmiao and said with a smile, “If you’re tired, you can lean on me and rest for a while.”
But Shen Yunmiao sat up straight, her dark eyes earnest. “I’m not sleepy. If you’re tired, you can lean on me and sleep.”
She patted her own shoulder, making her meaning clear.
Cheng Jianian was taken aback for a moment, then heard her add, “You can always lean on me when you’re tired. I’ll never get tired.”
Young CEO Cheng felt her heart melt into a puddle, her nose tingling with emotion as she softly responded with a hum.
After the plane landed, Shen Yunmiao had initially worried that the crowd might recognize Cheng Jianian, leading to unpleasant incidents. But upon arrival, she discovered it was a private island.
