- Chapter 32 - We’re Together!!!
Shen Yunmiao stared blankly at Cheng Jianian, her emotions churning inside like an ocean stirred by a hurricane.
That one glance was indescribably complex, leaving her at a loss for words.
Cheng Jianian gazed into those eyes, seeming both lucid and dazed, then cupped the face she had longed for day and night and pressed her lips down fiercely.
This time, it wasn’t just a brush against the cheek, it was a genuine meeting of lips, tender and lingering.
It was their first kiss. Neither knew about using their tongues or the playful back-and-forth chase; they simply pressed their lips together, inexperienced and naive.
Under the warm-toned light, Shen Yunmiao’s usually calm, gentle dark eyes took on an unusual hue. Cheng Jianian was captivated, lifting a hand to trace the beautiful corner of her eye with a fingertip, painting it with a hint of crimson.
She could no longer be bothered with the unresolved plot, nor did she consider the challenges they might face as a couple.
All she wanted was to pull this person into her arms.
To openly declare her claim and tell everyone, “She’s mine.”
Winning this person felt more enticing than any challenge she had faced before.
Lost in this unprecedented intimacy, Cheng Jianian lost all sense of time.
It was Shen Yunmiao who finally pushed her away, pulling them both out of their inseparable state.
Cheng Jianian was still savoring the moment, while Shen Yunmiao touched her lips in embarrassment they were likely swollen.
A faint, ambiguous wetness lingered, stirring unease.
Silence hung between them, one lost in reminiscence, the other truly unsure of what to say.
Shen Yunmiao bitterly regretted picking up those two bottles of fruity beer at the supermarket. She rarely drank and hadn’t paid close attention, simply grabbing two brightly colored drinks from the fridge because Cheng Jianian said she wanted something cold.
Now, regret was useless. The situation had escalated, and both seemed to share some responsibility.
Shen Yunmiao abruptly stood up, the chair legs scraping loudly, shattering the lingering intimate atmosphere.
Struggling to keep her voice steady, she said calmly, “It’s very late. I’ll call the driver to pick you up.”
Cheng Jianian shot to her feet as well, her voice tinged with grievance, “Are you running away from something, Miaomiao?”
“Or do you think I only kissed you because I’m drunk?”
A string in Shen Yunmiao’s mind snapped with a “pop.” She didn’t dare imagine what might come next.
That strictly forbidden red line loomed ahead, tempting her to cross it, but she hadn’t made up her mind unsure if she should take that step.
She didn’t dare look back, afraid that meeting Cheng Jianian’s glistening gray eyes would make her lose all reason.
But Cheng Jianian refused to let her go, gripping her shoulders and turning her around. Under the light, those gray eyes were so close that every blink seemed to strike at her heart.
Tremulous, like the flutter of butterfly wings, stirring up a storm of emotions in her chest.
Cheng Jianian raised a hand, her fingertips brushing against Shen Yunmiao’s neck, sending a ticklish shiver.
Her tone was plaintive, “I’ve drunk a whole pound of baijiu before and felt nothing. I’ve never been drunk.”
Shen Yunmiao’s heart sank heavily. She forced out, “Drunk people always think they’re sober. Let me make you some sobering tea.”
“Don’t go!” Cheng Jianian clasped her shoulders tightly, making it impossible for her to move an inch.
Already in a position of absolute control, yet she still put on that fearful demeanor of wavering between hope and despair, her eyelashes trembling as if about to shed a tear: “I know it might be too informal to say this now, but I really can’t take it anymore.”
“Miaomiao, I like you.”
The room was eerily quiet. Cheng Jianian could even hear her own heartbeat clearly. She knew well that once the arrow was shot, there was no turning back just as words, once spoken, could not be left half-finished.
She grew somewhat incoherent, as if her tongue had truly been numbed by alcohol, tangled and nonsensical: “What I mean is, I want to be in a relationship with you. I like you not the kind of liking between friends. I really, really want to kiss you every day.”
“Not just your lips, but your eyes too, they’re so dewy, I can’t help myself. And your earlobes are so pretty, small like jelly. And you always smell so good.”
She spoke these heartfelt words almost unconsciously, her eyes revealing an involuntary infatuation.
Shen Yunmiao hardly dared to look closely at her expression. She lowered her head, the tips of her ears flushed red, and even her usually impassive cheeks grew warm, tinged with a blush.
“I…” Shen Yunmiao didn’t know how to respond. Her whole mind felt hazy, as if she were soaked in alcohol, already slightly intoxicated with every breath.
Cheng Jianian took her hand and said dejectedly, “It’s okay if you don’t like me, but please give me a chance to stay by your side as someone who pursues you.”
The words were so humble it was unbearable to hear. Shen Yunmiao felt a tightness in her chest.
A strong emotion surged within her, this shouldn’t be happening. How could she be so humble?
Little C should be radiant, sitting high above the clouds, adored by everyone.
She should be watching indifferently as others went crazy for her.
Not like this, not humbly begging for love.
Unable to restrain herself any longer, she tightly embraced the person in front of her.
“I agree!”
Her voice trembled but was resolute: “I like you. I’m saying, Ah Nian, please be with me.”
Even though she had long known about this intense affection, Cheng Jianian’s heart still raced at the words.
She felt her fingertips burning, her blood boiling every part of her body was anything but calm.
In the blink of an eye, tears slid down her trembling lashes.
Cheng Jianian raised her hand, not to wipe the tears away, but to pull the person into her arms as if trying to meld her into her very bones and blood.
Finally, finally, she could openly protect this person.
Time passed little by little.
After both of them calmed down, a slight awkwardness settled in.
After all, emotions could run high, making everything feel overwhelmingly touching, but once that intensity faded, the feeling was entirely different.
Cheng Jianian was a bit more composed, as she had imagined this scenario many times, and in her memories, the two of them had shared a bed countless times.
So, she nonchalantly resumed eating. Shen Yunmiao tried to stop her: “It’s gone cold. Let me heat it up for you before you eat.”
Cheng Jianian blinked playfully, as if acting spoiled: “No, I don’t want to be apart from you.”
The distance from the kitchen to the living room was just a few steps, how could that be considered being apart? Shen Yunmiao was stunned but attributed it to the clinginess that came with newly confirmed feelings.
Steadying her mind, she calmly said, “If that’s the case, let’s not eat this for now. There’s still some braised ribs simmering in the pot. I’ll go serve them for you.”
There were a few ribs left in the pot earlier. Since the lid was on, they might not have cooled down too much yet.
Cheng Jianian obediently agreed, and Shen Yunmiao quickly stood up and headed to the kitchen as if fleeing, already planning to take her time serving the ribs perhaps even pretending she couldn’t find the right bowl.
But as soon as she stood up, a little shadow followed closely behind. Feeling the person sticking to her every step, she froze in place.
Cheng Jianian wrapped her arms around her from behind, nuzzling her head against her, and said softly, “Miaomiao, why did you stop?”
Shen Yunmiao thought to herself, How can I possibly move now? No wonder trees stand so still who could walk with so much hanging on them?
A uniquely romantic yet troublesome feeling washed over her.
She tried to explain that it would be difficult to properly serve a bowl of ribs like this, but Cheng Jianian remained stubborn, leaning in to whisper by her ear, “Then I won’t eat the ribs.”
Shen Yunmiao sighed helplessly, faintly realizing she might have made a foolish mistake.
Perhaps she shouldn’t have rushed into this relationship so hastily. If they were to part ways someday, all she’d remember would be those two ridiculous bottles of fruit beer and that less-than-satisfying dinner.
And even half a pot of ribs.
But Shen Yunmiao stole a glance at the person who was now contentedly leaning on her shoulder and thought, How could I ever refuse her?
Little C, as she called her, could never be refused.
By the time the ribs were finally served, neither of them had much of an appetite left.
Little Cheng eagerly offered to do the dishes and, under Shen Yunmiao’s step-by-step guidance, managed to wash two bowls and a few plates.
Once finished, she snuggled up to Shen Yunmiao again, clinging to her affectionately.
Shen Yunmiao’s heart couldn’t help but race.
It was both tormenting and deeply satisfying.
She still felt a bit dazed, unsure how she had ended up with the person who had always held a special place in her heart. It felt as if her memories were still stuck years ago, the first time she saw her.
That day, her fingers danced gracefully over a simple stage, playing one beautiful melody after another. The music she played was something Shen Yunmiao had never even heard of before.
Back then, she felt that this person existed in a different world from hers.
And in truth, she did.
During their first meeting, she was on stage, while Shen Yunmiao was in the crowd. She was the charitable benefactor, the one spreading hope and light.
And Shen Yunmiao? She was the one who, having received just a sliver of sunlight, clung to that tiny hope and struggled fiercely to survive.
It seemed many things had been forgotten. What exactly were they?
In a clean, comfortable hospital room, she stood dazedly at the doorway, watching a tall figure in a school uniform holding a large bouquet of flowers, a gentle smile gracing her lips.
But who was the person lying in the hospital bed?
She couldn’t remember, not at all. It felt like nothing more than a dream.
Shen Yunmiao’s head throbbed with pain. For a moment, she lost all sense of time, feeling as if her consciousness were floating, torn away from this world.
Just as Cheng Jianian finished washing the dishes and was about to ask for praise, she noticed the person by the sink pale-faced, her dark eyes dim. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly dried her hands to call out, “Miaomiao, Miaomiao, what’s wrong?”
Shen Yunmiao snapped back to reality, the discomfort from moments ago vanishing instantly, as if she had returned from the edge of the sky to solid ground. She smiled faintly and said, “It’s nothing. I was just thinking about some things.”
Cheng Jianian saw the color quickly return to her cheeks and felt relieved, though still a bit nervous. She asked, “What is it? Is it urgent?”
“Nothing much, just something from childhood,” Shen Yunmiao shook her head.
“Childhood?” Cheng Jianian recalled what Shen Yunmiao had mentioned before that she had liked her for many, many years. So they must have known each other since they were children.
Suddenly feeling a flicker of anticipation, she asked, “Does it have something to do with me?”
Shen Yunmiao blinked slowly. “Well probably.”
She didn’t know how to put into words the secret crush that had remained hidden for so many years, the times she had only stolen glances at this person.
Putting those feelings into words felt strange.
Moreover, they had just haphazardly established their relationship, and Shen Yunmiao felt a strong sense of unease. On one hand, she thought Cheng Jianian might still be a bit muddled from the alcohol; on the other, she worried that this person might have confessed so abruptly just out of amusement or curiosity.
More importantly, for some reason, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the world around her seemed unreal, as if everything revolved around her.
Even the misfortunes she encountered felt predestined.
Perhaps she really was unwell, Shen Yunmiao thought. She should make time to see a psychologist.
She must have gotten too carried away with joy, like Fan Jin in the old story.
Shen Yunmiao silently reminded herself to prioritize scheduling an appointment with a psychologist, lest her condition worsen if she delayed.
Cheng Jianian said disappointedly, “If it is, then it is. If it isn’t, then it isn’t. What do you mean by ‘probably’?”
Shen Yunmiao, always quick-witted, countered, “Then what about you, Anian? Why do you like me? We’ve only known each other for what, two months?”
This was an unavoidable issue. From reuniting after turning back into a human to confessing their feelings, the timing had indeed been too rushed.
It was completely different from Cheng Jianian’s initial strategy of taking things slow, like “boiling a frog in warm water.”
She didn’t know what had come over her today, it must have been the alcohol clouding her judgment. How could she confess without flowers or candlelight?
The usually composed Miss Cheng felt a rare pang of regret, though she wasn’t the least bit hesitant about answering the question. Her words flowed as if rehearsed: “Miaomiao, you must listen carefully to what I’m about to say.”
Shen Yunmiao, caught off guard by her sudden seriousness, nodded and fixed her gaze intently on Cheng Jianian.
Cheng Jianian continued, “First, I like you. I swear to heaven, I’m not lying. I’m very, very serious. If possible, I want to be with you forever.”
“Second, I’ve liked you for a long time. Back in high school, I thought you were incredibly beautiful. I love your gentleness, your resilience, and how you never complained despite facing so much misfortune, you just focused on doing your best.”
“Lastly, I promise I’ll never let you face misfortune again. I’ll make sure you’re happy every day from now on. I’ve been luckier than you, born with many material advantages, and from now on, I want to share all of that with you.”
“I want you to be truly, deeply happy.”
The kitchen sink was by the window, and outside, the night was deep and dark. Yet, this person shone brighter than the moon, more dazzling than the evening stars.
A faint smile graced her lips, but her eyes were filled with uncertain hope.
Shen Yunmiao felt that perhaps no words were needed at this moment. She rose on her tiptoes, her soft pink lips gently meeting Cheng Jianian’s.
Cheng Jianian had initially spoken those words with little confidence, but now she felt completely at ease and had no intention of holding back.
She gripped Shen Yunmiao’s slender waist, leaned in, and kissed her deeply.
If their first kiss tonight had been a drunken, impulsive moment of passion, then this one was a natural progression, a meeting of hearts, a mutual desire.
It was utterly wonderful.
Kissing someone you liked, and knowing that person liked you back the feeling was both magical and beautiful.
Only when both their breaths grew somewhat unsteady did Cheng Jianian reluctantly pull away, though her heart still burned with warmth.
She whispered softly, “Miaomiao, your lips are so sweet. I wish I could keep them in my mouth forever.”
Shen Yunmiao had never heard such straightforward words before. Her face flushed crimson instantly. Seizing the advantage, Cheng Jianian leaned close to her earlobe and murmured breathily, “So your face can blush after all. I thought it never would. And your ears they look so delicious.”
As she spoke, she actually took that sensitive earlobe into her mouth.
Shen Yunmiao nearly lost her balance, but with her waist still firmly held, there was no escaping this intimate scene by stumbling away.
The poor, delicate earlobe, already immobilized by the scorching breath against it, was now enveloped in an even hotter mouth.
Pushing the mischief-maker away slightly, Shen Yunmiao said seriously, “I think we should take some time to nurture our feelings first. This is too fast.”
Cheng Jianian disagreed, “Nurture? But I think our feelings are already strong enough. So when can I kiss you then?”
Shen Yunmiao hesitated, “Well, I need to assess that. And I feel like what we’re doing now seems like it’s just for, ahem. In short, I think it’s a bit too rushed.”
Cheng Jianian sighed regretfully, “Fine, but I have to make this clear, Miaomiao, my attraction to you is physical, and I can’t control it!”
Shen Yunmiao had no choice but to compromise, “Alright, we can kiss but not like before.”
Cheng Jianian paid no attention to her protests. Fully aware of her emotional advantage, she leaned closer and teased playfully, “Oh? Like what, exactly?”
She gently brushed Shen Yunmiao’s lips, “Like this?”
Then she moved toward that pitiful earlobe again, “Or like this?”
Overwhelmed by embarrassment, Shen Yunmiao turned and strode away, “Neither is allowed!”
After a moment’s thought, she softened, her eyes reddening slightly, “If I have to choose then the first one is okay, but the second one isn’t.”
Cheng Jianian shrugged indifferently, not taking it to heart, but agreed quickly, “Sure.”
Shen Yunmiao couldn’t shake the feeling that she was being placated.
But for now, as long as Cheng Jianian wasn’t rushing into the next step, she could tolerate it.
“When is the driver coming?” Shen Yunmiao sat on the sofa, smoothing her slightly disheveled blouse.
Cheng Jianian followed her out, pulled out a chair casually, and said, “What driver? I told him to take the rest of the night off.”
Shen Yunmiao’s gentle, cat-like eyes widened in surprise, “Aren’t you going back?”
“Can’t I stay at my girlfriend’s place?” Cheng Jianian asked innocently.

Shen Yunmiao thought, humans are truly creatures so easily satisfied and so prone to falling into fantasies.
After pondering for a moment, she replied:
[“When we can go public.”]
Cheng Jianian stared at this empty promise, grinding her teeth in frustration, wishing she could rush next door, hold the person tight, and kiss them fiercely for a while.
After a moment’s thought, a sly smile crossed her lips as she typed a few teasing words:
“What if I think we should go public right now?”
Shen Yunmiao chuckled softly at the message, knowing full well she was just saying it. Going public wouldn’t mean much to Cheng Jianian at most, she’d lose some insignificant fans.
But for Shen Yunmiao, it would be career suicide.
Cheng Jianian wouldn’t do that.
So, she replied:
“Then let’s go public now.”
“I’m looking forward to it.”
