After the Vicious Supporting Female Character Became the Heroine's Cat - Chapter 31.2
Shen Yunmiao paid little attention to all this, shutting out the outside world.
She simply chatted daily with her enthusiastic little fan. Then one day, the fan mentioned that their birthday was approaching.
Surprised, Shen Yunmiao checked the calendar and realized summer had slipped away in the blink of an eye and Cheng Jianian’s birthday was also coming up.
She quietly noted this and asked the fan what gift they wanted.
Without hesitation, the fan shyly said they wanted their idol’s WeChat.
For a moment, Shen Yunmiao felt a bit conflicted. Although she wasn’t much of a star-chaser and didn’t know much about the entertainment industry, privately contacting fans didn’t seem like a good idea.
After hesitating, she told the fan she needed to consult her agent.
After the film’s release, Shen Yunmiao had signed with Mercury Entertainment under Cheng Jianian’s protection.
Without Cheng Jianian even needing to give special instructions, Zuo Ying had assigned her a well-known agent in the industry, Yang Xu.
Yang Xu, a veteran at Mercury, was fully aware of her artist’s relationship with the young CEO. She went all out, declaring she would focus solely on managing Shen Yunmiao and drop all other clients.
Now, reading her artist’s inquiry, Yang Xu broke out in a cold sweat. Zuo Ying had already instructed her not to take away Shen Yunmiao’s Flow account because the young CEO used a side account to chat with her there every day.
Yang Xu was caught in a dilemma. Agreeing would go against her professional principles no agent in the industry would openly allow their artist to privately contact fans. What if Shen Yunmiao started doing it indiscriminately later?
Refusing, however, would mean disrespecting the CEO, who probably desperately wanted to add her artist on WeChat.
Reluctantly, she made a decision that felt almost sacrilegious, typing shakily: “This fan seems alright, you can try adding them. But be cautious in the future.”
Shen Yunmiao was surprised, she hadn’t expected her agent to be so open-minded.
She thanked Yang Xu and sent her WeChat ID to the fan.
At her desk, the young CEO stared at the familiar WeChat ID, her heart racing. She opened her side account and sent a friend request.
Soon, the user with the white kitten profile picture accepted, and the two became WeChat friends!
With this connection, the young CEO no longer felt confined to just being a friend.
Honestly, the past two months had been torturous. Seeing Shen Yunmiao every day those dewy eyes, those rosy lips, that delicate, porcelain-like face made her want to kiss her fiercely.
But the young CEO only dared to entertain such scandalous thoughts in her mind; she wouldn’t dare actually cross that line in person.
Every time she tried to suggest taking their relationship beyond friendship, Shen Yunmiao would subtly distance herself.
Shen Yunmiao never did anything drastic; she was like warm water gentle yet intense, gradually pulling away until there was no holding on.
The young CEO had no choice but to retreat again.
The two of them kept tugging at each other, lost in a bittersweet struggle.
It wasn’t exactly joyful, but it wasn’t sad either.
Just a little frustrating.
To put it in Zuo Ying’s cruder terms, this was pure impatience driven by lust.
Other people, childhood friends who grew up together as longtime confidants, would take eight to ten years to transition from friendship to romance. But her boss? They weren’t even close friends yet, and she already wanted to kiss.
Of course, Zuo Ying only dared to grumble about this inwardly.
On the surface, she was the boss’s right-hand woman and had contributed no small effort to facilitating this leap in their relationship.
For instance, right now, she had just made a restaurant reservation.
In the afternoon, after finishing her classes, Cheng Jianian looked at the restaurant ambiance photos Zuo Ying had sent and felt quite satisfied. Eagerly, she invited Shen Yunmiao to dinner.
Shen Yunmiao looked into her sparkling gray eyes and didn’t know how to refuse. If it were just an ordinary meal, she naturally wouldn’t have declined.
But every time they ate, Cheng Jianian never let her pay.
Or rather, whenever Cheng Jianian booked the restaurant, payment was never an issue they were all membership-based establishments, or even shops owned by the Cheng family.
Shen Yunmiao, however, felt very uncomfortable with this.
She wasn’t someone with particularly strong pride, but it felt as though they were acting like an intimately close couple who didn’t need to distinguish between such things.
In reality, that wasn’t the case. They weren’t longtime friends with years of tacit understanding, so this kind of relationship felt somewhat distorted.
Shen Yunmiao didn’t want to maintain this abnormal dynamic with Cheng Jianian.
It felt very uncomfortable.
Seeing her prolonged silence, Cheng Jianian looked over pitifully, confused.
Shen Yunmiao had no choice but to say, “The pots and pans at my place haven’t been used in too long, I’m worried they might have gone bad. I was thinking of cooking something for myself tonight.”
It was a reasonably plausible excuse.
After all, Cheng Jianian brought her nutritious breakfast every morning, delivered it to her home if she had no morning classes, and invited her to various beautiful restaurants for lunch and dinner.
Seeing Cheng Jianian deep in thought, Shen Yunmiao breathed a sigh of relief and was about to quickly grab her backpack and head home.
Unexpectedly, Cheng Jianian immediately said, “That’s fine! I can come help you. We can cook together.”
Shen Yunmiao: “…”
Caught in a bind, she reluctantly agreed.
They first put on masks and went to the supermarket to buy some fruits, vegetables, fresh ingredients, and meat. Due to her upbringing, Shen Yunmiao was quite skilled at cooking.
However, cooking for someone else was something she hadn’t done much, and looking at all the ingredients, she felt a bit nervous.
Cheng Jianian insisted on squeezing into the kitchen to help. The one-room apartment had a small kitchen, and with both of them inside, they could barely take two steps without bumping into each other.
Unable to stop her, Shen Yunmiao assigned her detailed tasks: deveining shrimp, washing ribs, and cleaning the vegetables and fruits.
Although Cheng Jianian was accustomed to a life of luxury and had never done manual labor, she had no self-awareness about her lack of skills and eagerly reached for the kitchen knife to cut the meat.
Exasperated, Shen Yunmiao told her to put it down quickly and stop causing more trouble.
With that, she took the knife and deftly handled the ribs and beef.
She planned to make three meat dishes, three vegetable dishes, and one dessert.
It would definitely take time, but the food wouldn’t go to waste since the portions were small.
After putting the ribs on to stew, another problem arose: there were no other pots available, though there was still one free burner.
Just as Cheng Jianian was about to call someone to deliver one immediately, Shen Yunmiao quickly stopped her: “It’s fine, actually I have another pot, but I’ve used it to cook for my cat. Would you mind?”
Cheng Jianian certainly knew which one she was referring to, the adorable pink pot from which all her previous kitten meals had come.
She never expected that even after becoming human, she’d still get to eat food prepared in that same pot.
For a moment, her emotions felt complicated, but she definitely didn’t mind. After all, it was something she had used before, why would she mind?
Hearing that she didn’t mind, Shen Yunmiao breathed a sigh of relief. Many people disliked sharing kitchenware with their pets, even if the animals hadn’t eaten directly from it.
And her kitten had already passed away.
The association of death with keepsakes naturally made people keep their distance.
With the pot ready, Shen Yunmiao worked much faster. She steamed the shrimp as they were, and since the beef she bought was thinly sliced, she simply blanched and tossed it with seasoning, a light and refreshing flavor that was quite delicious.
Stir-frying the vegetables was even simpler, taking only about seven or eight minutes per dish.
In no time, all the dishes were served.
Watching Shen Yunmiao bustling about, Cheng Jianian felt a pang of guilt and resolved to learn how to cook properly in the future, so she wouldn’t have to let Miaomiao work so hard again.
The evening glow faded at the horizon as the bright moon rose into the sky.
Shen Yunmiao took off her apron and gazed at the dimming twilight outside the balcony. Sitting across from her, Cheng Jianian watched the moon, but Shen Yunmiao’s eyes inadvertently drifted to the warm gray eyes illuminated by the lamplight. In that instant, a sense of home washed over her.
The loneliness she had felt over the past few days melted away in that moment.
A longing she hadn’t even realized she possessed emerged, how wonderful it would be to live like this, sharing three meals a day and four seasons together, just the two of them.
Her cooking was excellent, and with every bite, Cheng Jianian grew more touched. Suddenly, Shen Yunmiao remembered something and went to the fridge, returning with two bottles of drinks.
Cheng Jianian looked at the fruit beer she had specifically picked out at the supermarket, now nicely chilled. She knew Shen Yunmiao wasn’t aware that it contained alcohol, the flashy packaging made it look no different from regular fruit juice.
She had no intention of telling Miaomiao, after all, she had chosen it on purpose.
So, Cheng Jianian calmly opened a bottle and took a few hearty gulps. The warm light cast on her slender neck made her look as elegant as a graceful swan.
Shen Yunmiao was taken aback for a moment, suddenly feeling embarrassed by her own reaction. Flustered, she lowered her head and opened her own drink, taking a sip.
As she drank, she frowned slightly.
Why did it taste so strange?
Though she didn’t drink often, she still recognized the taste of alcohol.
Realizing it was fruit beer, she immediately tried to stop the person across from her.
But with a soft thud, Cheng Jianian set the empty can on the table, her cheeks flushed, her usually cool and aloof gray eyes now seductive and hazy.
Shen Yunmiao: “…?”
She found it hard to believe that the other person had never drunk before.
Was she already drunk?
It felt a bit odd.
Cheng Jianian paid no mind to her thoughts. Leaning on the table, she blinked at her slowly, one blink at a time.
Shen Yunmiao sighed helplessly and tried to reason with her, “A’Nian, are you drunk? Should I call your driver to pick you up?”
But Cheng Jianian insisted, “I’m not drunk at all. I can still drink.” With that, she snatched Shen Yunmiao’s bottle and downed it in one go.
Shen Yunmiao: “…???”
At this point, whether she believed it or not was irrelevant, but she still attempted one last effort: “It’s already very late. Even if you’re not drunk, you should still have your driver come pick you up.”
Cheng Jianian staggered to her feet and plopped down beside her, giggling, “I don’t want to go home. I want to stay with you.”
As she spoke, she began getting handsy, pulling Shen Yunmiao closer to her side.
In reality, Young Master Cheng was perfectly sober at that moment. Having weathered countless toasts in the business world without ever getting drunk, this level of alcohol was practically fruit juice to her.
Yet even the faintest trace of liquor can act as a catalyst. She could no longer restrain herself and planted a loud, smacking kiss on that smooth, fair, and soft cheek.
Clatter. Shen Yunmiao’s chopsticks slipped from her grasp uncontrollably.
