- Chapter 31.1 - Kissed My Wife!
The scene instantly descended into chaos. Fortunately, Cheng Jianian reacted swiftly, and both of them were unharmed.
Cheng Jianian broke out in a cold sweat, her palm firmly cushioning Shen Yunmiao’s head. The soft strands of hair pressed against her palm, sending a faint, ticklish sensation through her hand.
Shen Yunmiao felt the rapid, erratic breathing of the person above her. For the first time, she was so terrified, as if she had been transported back to that night when she lost her cat. She clung tightly to Cheng Jianian, as though afraid that letting go would mean losing her forever.
For some reason, she felt as if she had experienced this kind of loss before. When was it? During the car accident?
No, her intuition told her it was even earlier than that.
For a moment, it seemed as though countless memories that didn’t belong to this lifetime were forcibly crammed into her mind. One moment, she was in a chaotic crowd amid a stormy sky; the next, she was quietly watching someone through a transparent glass window.
That person would never wake up again.
The bustling crowd grew restless. Suddenly, Shen Yunmiao was jerked back to reality, her body drenched in cold sweat.
Cheng Jianian was also shaken. Carefully observing the person beneath her, she slowly turned and sat up, allowing Shen Yunmiao to sit on her lap.
Gently, she stroked the soft hair, soothing her: “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Shen Yunmiao’s mind went blank. Clutching Cheng Jianian’s clothes tightly, she wrapped her arms around her waist and leaned against her, feeling the vigorous rhythm of her heartbeat.
As she drew closer, Cheng Jianian froze.
Her heartbeat quickened, as if spurred on by the moment.
Suddenly, Cheng Jianian heard an exclamation: “Mr. Liang, your leg!”
The voice came from the host, and Liang Jue’s voice followed immediately: “It’s nothing, it’s nothing. Just a few shards of glass.”
Instantly, the cold sweat that had just begun to subside on Cheng Jianian’s body resurfaced.
She gently set the person in her arms down and stumbled toward Liang Jue, who had already been helped to a nearby chair.
Seeing her approach, he hurriedly tried to stand up but was stopped. Anxiously, he asked, “President Cheng, are you alright?”
As someone heavily promoted by Mercury, he dared not show any disrespect to the young President Cheng.
Cheng Jianian shook her head, her lips pale as she asked, “Is your leg okay?”
Liang Jue quickly shook his head: “It’s fine, it’s fine. I was just injured by some flying glass shards.”
Suddenly, as if remembering something, he exclaimed in surprise, “It turns out it wasn’t a glass chandelier but a crystal one. Strange, how could it be so unstable? Thankfully, you reacted quickly, so both of you are unharmed.”
Cheng Jianian looked at the crystal shard that had pierced through his pants. The bright red blood had soaked through the thin fabric, a sight that sent chills down her spine.
Even the location was the same just below the left knee.
The area on his calf was completely stained red.
Shen Yunmiao also came over. Looking at the wound, she said guiltily, “Brother Liang, I’m sorry.”
Liang Jue quickly waved his hand: “What are you saying? It’s not like you wanted that thing to fall. It’s just my bad luck. But thankfully, it’s nothing serious. The most important thing is that you and President Cheng are safe.”
The group moved backstage.
Liang Jue’s assistant had already brought a first aid kit and bandaged him up. An ambulance arrived shortly after. The security team and Jian Shen temporarily stabilized the scene. Under Jian Shen’s direction, the host apologized, explained the situation, and assured everyone that there would be another event in the future.
The fans were growing increasingly anxious, unable to learn what had happened to their idol.
But there was simply no way to see anything.
The more Cheng Jianian thought about it, the more alarmed she became. The recent incident suggested that perhaps the storyline truly had a self-correcting nature, it wasn’t something she could change at will. But what about the car accident last time.
What did that success mean then? Was it just luck?
Why couldn’t that luck continue? What should she do in the future? She couldn’t just stand by and watch everything in the plot unfold.
The thought of Miaomiao possibly being with someone else made her so upset she could hardly breathe.
If Miaomiao could be happy with Ji Hanfeng, that would be one thing, but the plot’s development was fraught with countless hardships, which pained Cheng Jianian deeply.
She had to change the storyline.
Never before had a goal been so clear yet felt so impossibly out of reach.
Shen Yunmiao could sense her unease and gently took her hand, her dark eyes soft as water, making Cheng Jianian’s heart race.
Unable to hold back any longer, Cheng Jianian pulled her into an embrace. “I was so scared, I almost thought I was going to lose you.”
Shen Yunmiao patted her back soothingly. “It’s okay, I’m fine.”
Cheng Jianian forced back the tears threatening to spill and managed a weak smile. “It’s alright, at least this gives us more to talk about.”
Both knew it was just a comforting lie.
The situation was resolved quickly, just as the plot had described. Liang Jue’s injuries looked serious but fortunately hadn’t hit any arteries, it was just a lot of blood loss.
Shen Yunmiao and Cheng Jianian, who shouldn’t have appeared in this part of the story, were both unharmed.
However, after this incident, Shen Yunmiao could clearly sense Cheng Jianian’s low spirits, a stark contrast to her high energy over the past few days.
She didn’t know how to comfort her and remained silent.
Their conversations on WeChat, however, remained frequent.
Out of habit, Shen Yunmiao opened her Flow again. “Miaomiao’s Biggest Fan” was still sending daily messages, specifically asking if she was hurt and offering words of reassurance.
Shen Yunmiao replied: I’m fine, thank you for your concern.
“Miaomiao’s Biggest Fan” responded almost instantly: Wuwu Miaomiao, I was so scared! If I had been there today, I would’ve protected you for sure QAQ
Shen Yunmiao guessed she was a young girl who liked using emoticons and cute cat stickers in her messages.
A warm feeling washed over her, and she quickly replied: Your own safety is the most important thing. Never put yourself in danger for someone else!
“Miaomiao’s Biggest Fan”: But Miaomiao isn’t just “someone else”!
Shen Yunmiao wasn’t sure how to correct the girl’s thinking. Touched yet concerned, she gently said: Then I’ll do my best to stay out of danger, and please promise you’ll do the same!
The reply came immediately: I promise!
Along with a sticker of a determined cat making a fist, which melted Shen Yunmiao’s heart.
Convinced the girl on the other end was young and likely still in school, she instinctively urged: Sweetie, go focus on your studies. When you’re older, we can meet!
Cheng Jianian stared at the message on her screen, both amused and exasperated, realizing that Miaomiao had mistaken her for some school-aged kid.
This won’t do. She still needed to achieve something in this identity.
So she quickly replied: [I don’t need to study anymore, I’m already in university, just like Miaomiao!]
This took Shen Yunmiao by surprise, but upon second thought, even if they were the same age, she had just turned eighteen not long ago. If she came from a relatively normal and happy family, it made sense that she hadn’t been exposed to the complexities of society yet and still had a somewhat naive disposition.
So she simply typed a few words: [Alright then, but you should still get some rest early.]
It was unclear whether the words “get some rest early” were meant for the person on the other side of the chat or for herself.
The moonlight was bright that night, and two people on opposite ends of the internet shared the glow of the same moon.
Zuo Ying was somewhat afraid to face her boss. To be honest, she truly felt like she had encountered something supernatural. That crystal chandelier not only had she assigned others to inspect it multiple times, but she had personally checked it over and over again.
What was even more bizarre was that when she went to inspect it, she had clearly followed the boss’s instructions and replaced it with a lamp made of a different material. Yet, right before it was supposed to go on stage, it had reverted to an ordinary plastic lamp.
After checking the surveillance footage, they finally discovered that an employee was behind it all.
Even more absurdly, when they later asked the employee what they had been thinking, the person claimed they thought the crystal chandelier was prettier and, for some inexplicable reason, felt compelled to switch it back.
After listening to Zuo Ying recount these almost far-fetched events, Cheng Jianian had little to say. She massaged her temples and dismissed Zuo Ying.
There was no point in pursuing the matter further because it wasn’t a human error. Even if Cheng Jianian was reluctant to admit it, she now had to acknowledge one thing: the plot’s ability to self-correct was incredibly strong.
She would have to exert tremendous effort to alter the course of these events.
Cheng Jianian wasn’t afraid of challenges. Her upbringing had been different from that of ordinary young ladies and gentlemen from wealthy families, it was the training of a true strategist.
So she welcomed challenges and didn’t feel weary because of them.
However, this kind of education had also inevitably turned her into someone selfish, self-serving, indifferent, and arrogant someone who saw others as mere tools.
For a long time, this had led her to underestimate the so-called “plot.” But now, she had no choice but to confront it head-on and find a way to resist its pull.
The only time she had succeeded was during the car accident that night, but the cost had been devastating, and it wasn’t something that could be replicated.
What was it, then? What was the key to changing the plot?
As Cheng Jianian handled company affairs, she pondered this irritably.
Progress was slow. Fortunately, according to the plot, since the male lead, Ji Hanfeng, had gone abroad, not many significant events had occurred, and most of them were related to his occasional returns.
All she needed to do was find a way to keep Ji Hanfeng from returning for a while and stir up some trouble for the Xu family. That would buy her enough time to experiment with altering the plot.
For someone like Miss Cheng, accomplishing these two tasks was far simpler than changing the plot itself.
The only one who suffered was Ji Hanfeng, who was studying diligently overseas. Out of nowhere, he was reprimanded by his family and forbidden to return home until he earned his degree.
As for Zuo Ying, who carried out this task, she became utterly convinced that her boss and Young Master Ji were indeed rivals in love, not childhood friends.
As days passed, the “friendship” between Cheng Jianian and Shen Yunmiao grew deeper.
The film received quite positive feedback, and Jian Shen, having secured substantial investment, was moved to tears and began preparing for his suspense drama.
Meanwhile, Xu Baiyang strangely found that everything had been going wrong for him lately.
He was so unlucky that even walking down the street, someone would intentionally bump into him.
