Chapter 5: We’re only on Chapter 5 and already kissing?
Upon hearing this news, Ruan Mingyu couldn’t help but laugh. He had just escaped, and now he was being told he wouldn’t live long?
“Really? That’s great! When will I die?”
The old man Three Purities nearly spat out the tea he had just drunk. Wiping his mouth, he asked him: “Did you take some kind of medicine before? Why aren’t you continuing to take it?”
That medicine was given by Shen Yanyuan. He would have to ask Shen Yanyuan for more.
Ruan Mingyu had just escaped the demon’s den; he would rather die than go back.
Seeing that he didn’t answer, the old man Three Purities said: “It’s not that easy to die. As for your congenital weakness, I will think about how to treat it and let you know in a few days.”
Hearing him say this, it seemed he could live a bit longer. Ruan Mingyu didn’t care when he would die; he focused on the present and said: “Master, can you help me heal the injury on my leg?”
The old man Three Purities said: “Such a simple injury could be healed just by reading a book. I saw you came back with Song Chenxi. Why didn’t he help you treat it?”
Ruan Mingyu didn’t think much of it: “Maybe he forgot.”
The old man Three Purities waved his hand, and Ruan Mingyu’s knee was instantly no longer painful.
He added: “Tomorrow, I’ll have your Senior Brother and Senior Sister take you to the library to get some introductory cultivation manuals. Read them first, and ask your Senior Brother and Senior Sister if you don’t understand. If you can’t even learn this, don’t tell anyone I taught you.”
Ruan Mingyu nodded to take his leave, then couldn’t wait to go back to bed.
When he returned, a candle was lit in the room. Song Chenxi was sitting at the table, writing furiously.
Ruan Mingyu immediately lay down on the bed upon his return. Song Chenxi’s voice drifted over: “Take off your outer robe!”
Ruan Mingyu’s eyelids were fighting, and he could fall asleep the moment his head touched the pillow. He didn’t want to argue with Song Chenxi anymore, so he obediently took it off and burrowed into the quilt.
Then he heard Song Chenxi say: “Sleep on your own pillow!”
Why is sleeping so much trouble!
Ruan Mingyu moved and switched to a different pillow. The quilt had a scent of soapberry. It had only been a few days, and Song Chenxi had already changed the duvet cover. He seemed to be a bit of a germaphobe.
Ruan Mingyu thought he could finally sleep peacefully, but Song Chenxi started chattering again. Ruan Mingyu was too tired to move.
After Song Chenxi talked for a while without a response, he walked to the bed, flipped Ruan Mingyu who was facing away from him, and said: “You’re using the wrong quilt! Use your own!”
Ruan Mingyu was terribly annoyed by him. He thought that since he was going to die soon, he didn’t care about anything.
He squinted his eyes, speaking weakly: “I’ll sleep right here.”
“What did you say?” Song Chenxi didn’t hear clearly and leaned down closer to listen.
Since Song Chenxi was a germaphobe, Ruan Mingyu decided to gross him out properly. He hadn’t slept well these past few days because of Song Chenxi, so he decided to settle old and new scores. He grabbed Song Chenxi’s collar, pulled him down, and gave him a peck on the face.
Then, he said with a playful smile: “Senior Brother, goodnight!” After that, Ruan Mingyu went completely still, falling asleep without his eyelashes even fluttering.
Song Chenxi froze in place like a block of wood, unable to recover for a long time. In the past, he had a thousand ways to make Ruan Mingyu get up, but now his mind was instantly blank. Since he gained consciousness, he had never been so intimately close to anyone.
He couldn’t process it immediately and forgot everything he had originally intended to do. All he wanted now was to be alone and quiet. Song Chenxi flew up to the eaves and sat there in silent meditation for most of the night, completely ignoring the bone-chilling cold wind.
Why did Ruan Mingyu do that? What exactly did he want to achieve? Song Chenxi’s face alternated between red and white. The image of Ruan Mingyu kissing him kept replaying in his mind.
He sat there thinking hard for most of the night. Finally, he seemed to realize something, and his expression turned extremely ugly. He immediately jumped off the eaves and returned to the room, dragging the soundly sleeping Ruan Mingyu out of the warm covers.
Ruan Mingyu was sleeping soundly, his long hair falling over his shoulders and slipping into his collar without him noticing. Being yanked up by Song Chenxi, Ruan Mingyu rubbed his eyes, his face still showing a faint red pressure mark: “What are you doing? Why aren’t you sleeping in the middle of the night?”
Song Chenxi gave a cold, sweet smile: “What did you mean just now? Were you trying to disgust me?”
“Just now?” It was almost dawn. Wasn’t that yesterday’s business? Was he referring to the kiss? Ruan Mingyu genuinely intended to do that. Anyway, he was going to die soon, and a dead pig doesn’t fear boiling water, so he nodded.
Song Chenxi pushed him down onto the bed. The moonlight shone through the window, and Ruan Mingyu was entirely enveloped in his shadow.
He looked down at Ruan Mingyu and said coldly: “Ruan Mingyu, you’ve gotten bold. Apologize to me.”
His arms were pinned down by Song Chenxi, and he couldn’t move. He was still groggy from sleep, and his brain wasn’t processing things. He blinked: “Just take your revenge, then. If you’re done, I’ll go back to sleep.” Apologize? Apologize for what? Never in this lifetime would he apologize.
Ruan Mingyu forgot that there wasn’t a single normal person in this place.
When Song Chenxi heard his words, his eyes darkened. He opened his mouth and said: “Fine.”
He truly repaid the other in kind. Song Chenxi lowered his head and kissed Ruan Mingyu’s lips. It wasn’t a light touch; it was an act of vengeance, grinding against them repeatedly, even lightly biting his lip.
He had never done such a thing before, and he didn’t know his own strength, causing Ruan Mingyu’s lips to bleed.
After a short while, Song Chenxi suddenly felt his breathing becoming heavy. His act of vengeance seemed to have changed nature… He felt himself getting aroused…
It was only supposed to be revenge. Why was he having such a strange reaction?
Ruan Mingyu’s mind was completely jammed. He had expected Song Chenxi might beat him up, but he never thought Song Chenxi would go crazy and kiss him.
He was momentarily stunned, wide-eyed, letting Song Chenxi kiss him. A sharp pain shot through his lips—this person actually bit him! Snapping back to his senses, Ruan Mingyu immediately pushed him away and cursed loudly:
“I haven’t even held a girl’s hand, and I’m kissing you! Are you sick? If you’re annoyed with me, just beat me up! Why the hell are you kissing me? Are you really not sick? Go home! Go home, get treated, and then come back to cultivate immortality! What kind of immortal are you cultivating? Your brain has a problem. I’m not playing with you anymore!”
“You asked for it,” Song Chenxi looked at his rosy lips, his mood inexplicably brightening.
He pinched Ruan Mingyu’s chin, looking at the marks he had bitten onto his lips, quite pleased with his masterpiece: “Did Shen Yanyuan ever kiss you?”
Ruan Mingyu: “Are you sick? Don’t bring him up to me!”
The more Ruan Mingyu thought about it, the angrier he got. He couldn’t help but hug his knees and cry. The thought of being kissed by a guy before even having a relationship, combined with missing home and lack of sleep these past few days, made him feel even more wronged.
Song Chenxi frowned when he saw him crying:
“Hey, why are you crying? You told me yourself to take my revenge.”
They were both young, and their words and actions carried a youthful air. They never considered the consequences of what they did, just acting on impulse.
Song Chenxi handed him a handkerchief. Ruan Mingyu’s face was streaked with tears, but he didn’t take the handkerchief. Instead, he used Song Chenxi’s sleeve to wipe his tears dry.
Ruan Mingyu cursed himself for being weak. It was a minor thing; he should just think of it as being bitten by a dog.
Song Chenxi’s face changed drastically. He suppressed the urge to beat him, pulling his sleeve away from Ruan Mingyu’s hand. He couldn’t wear this clothing anymore.
“Stop crying.”
Ruan Mingyu: “Mind your own business.” He was tired of crying. He turned over and fell asleep.
Song Chenxi wasn’t satisfied. He leaned closer to Ruan Mingyu’s ear and asked him: “Did Shen Yanyuan really never kiss you?”
“None of your business,” Ruan Mingyu said coldly.
Song Chenxi lay on the bed, still under Ruan Mingyu’s quilt. He stared at the ceiling, his mind a mess. Since coming up the mountain, he had never been so distraught. It was all Ruan Mingyu’s fault.
He couldn’t sleep in the middle of the night. He got up to look at Ruan Mingyu beside him. The other man was sleeping with his eyes closed, curled up in a ball under the quilt, with unshed tear stains at the corners of his eyes.
Song Chenxi touched his hair. It was very soft.
He probably understood why Shen Yanyuan kept him around.
An interesting, unthreatening, little sparrow that knew how to make people happy.
Song Chenxi only fell asleep when dawn broke.
It was surprising that the Senior Sister didn’t see Song Chenxi practicing his sword today.
She knocked on the door, but no one answered.
“Something’s wrong, definitely something’s wrong!”
The Senior Sister pushed the door open.
She only saw Song Chenxi and Ruan Mingyu sleeping head-to-head, snoring away.
She couldn’t help but sigh: “The Junior and Senior Brothers who sleep in the same bed truly have a good relationship.”
She woke them up and instructed: “Senior Brother, the Alchemy Room is missing a few medicinal ingredients. Could you please go down the mountain to purchase them? Junior Brother, you go along too. It’ll be good for you to see the world.”
Ruan Mingyu nodded, his hair a mess. Song Chenxi wasn’t much better, with dark circles under his eyes.
Although Ruan Mingyu was currently very unhappy with Song Chenxi, he still got dressed and followed him down the mountain.
On the road, unlike yesterday, Ruan Mingyu was completely silent. He was probably still dwelling on last night’s incident and was uncomfortable looking at Song Chenxi.
Song Chenxi’s face was cold, and his mood was also growing increasingly irritable.
Ruan Mingyu would stop to rest every two steps, and Song Chenxi surprisingly didn’t abandon him to walk on his own.
They made many stops along the way, only reaching the bottom of the mountain in the afternoon.
Medicinal ingredients were the best-selling items. The stock from individual sellers was already sold out. They would have to wait until early tomorrow morning to buy good quality and affordable ingredients.
Ruan Mingyu was starving. His eyes were glued to the street vendors selling food.
Song Chenxi took the initiative to speak: “Want candied hawthorn?”
Ruan Mingyu seized the opportunity: “Yes.”
“Sesame balls?”
“Yes.”
“Rolling donkey rolls (glutinous rice rolls)?”
“Yes.”
“Brown sugar ciba (glutinous rice cake)?”
“Yes.”
They bought things all along the way, and Ruan Mingyu almost couldn’t carry any more.
Song Chenxi, for some unknown reason, suddenly said to Ruan Mingyu out of the blue: “I should have only told you the second method, to trick you into coming to me.”
Ruan Mingyu remained silent: “Don’t joke with me…”
Song Chenxi suddenly became serious: “I’m not joking.”
Ruan Mingyu took it as him having another bout of craziness and didn’t take the words to heart.
After eating, he followed Song Chenxi to find accommodation. Song Chenxi chose the most expensive inn in the town and said to the waiter: “A Heaven-rank room.”
Ruan Mingyu hurriedly said: “No, two rooms.”
Song Chenxi glanced at him: “Mingyu, why be so distant, my Junior Brother? I was hoping to stay up all night talking to you by candlelight.”
Ruan Mingyu felt he was acting strange, especially after dragging him out of bed just recently: “How could that be? I just think one room isn’t enough for both of us.”
Song Chenxi retorted: “Didn’t we stay together on the mountain?”
The waiter was observant and immediately said: “The Heaven-rank room has two beds. One room is enough for you two guests.”
Ruan Mingyu reached for his money. He really didn’t want to continue sharing a room with Song Chenxi now that he was off the mountain. Who knew if he would suddenly go crazy in the middle of the night?
He reached into his bag for his purse to pay for two rooms, but found nothing. Oh no, he was too tired earlier and forgot his belongings at the previous shop. He didn’t care about the room anymore and immediately rushed out of the inn to look for his things.
Song Chenxi frowned: “Where are you going!” He followed Ruan Mingyu out.
Ruan Mingyu returned to the shop but couldn’t find his bag. He asked the owner: “Excuse me, have you seen…”
Before he could finish, the owner interrupted: “No, no. Hurry up and leave. Don’t disturb my business.”
The waiter had been clearing up when Ruan Mingyu left, so they couldn’t possibly not know. Ruan Mingyu immediately started arguing with them.
When Song Chenxi arrived, Ruan Mingyu was engaged in a verbal fight with the staff. He looked like a refined young master but was arguing back and forth with them.
When the staff realized they couldn’t out-argue Ruan Mingyu, they started pushing and shoving him, eventually forcing him out the door. A crowd gathered around to watch the commotion, eager for trouble.
Song Chenxi reached out to catch Ruan Mingyu, drew his shining longsword, and thrust it into the table in the main hall.
The area immediately fell silent.
Song Chenxi glared: “So what if we demand justice today! You have so many people ganging up on him, and you have the nerve!”
Ruan Mingyu was stunned, not expecting Song Chenxi to stand up for him.
Indeed, force speaks loudest. The shop owner finally spoke properly.
More and more people gathered to watch the excitement. Among the crowd was a young man dressed like a noble, who wasn’t interested in the commotion but became intrigued when his eyes fell upon Song Chenxi’s face.
After some discussion, Ruan Mingyu finally got his belongings back.
Song Chenxi withdrew his longsword, instantly hacking the table to pieces, and then left with Ruan Mingyu.
Ruan Mingyu counted his silver while saying to Song Chenxi: “Senior Brother, thank you.”
Song Chenxi smiled faintly: “No need to thank me. Just don’t give me a cold shoulder the next time I kiss you.”
“…” Ruan Mingyu really regretted what he had just said.
There were too many people, so they didn’t notice that someone followed them and entered the inn with them.
…
After a tiring day, they could finally rest. In the end, the two still stayed in one Heaven-rank room. Song Chenxi certainly enjoyed luxury; even the quilts in this place were silk. Ruan Mingyu fell asleep the moment he touched the bed.
The night grew deeper. In the darkness, someone climbed in through the window and silently slipped into the room.
The shadowy figure groped his way to Ruan Mingyu’s bedside.
Ruan Mingyu was sound asleep. In a daze, he felt himself being picked up. Opening his eyes, he heard someone teasing near his ear: “Little beauty, why don’t you run off with me tonight?”
