Wen Yuluo’s anger instantly surged. “Since you already knew, why are you still saying that I ruined the experiment? There is not a single problem with my experiment!”

Yi An said with a cold face, “Do you have any evidence?”

Wen Yuluo froze.

“After the scene was cleaned up, not even a trace of pheromone concentration could be detected, and the surveillance footage was also deleted. What evidence do you have to accuse him? Zhou Lin has the entire Zhou family behind him. What do you have behind you?”

After leaving the hospital, he hailed a cab.

Bored on the way, Wen Yuluo opened WeChat and looked at the top of his chat list, where the messages he sent remained unanswered.

“Have you arrived at the airport?”

“Did you get on the plane?”

“When will you arrive?”

“Send me a message when you get to the hotel, President Qi.”

Not a single reply. Wen Yuluo was already used to it.

He scrolled through the chat history. Qi You’s previous replies were always just “Oh” or “Mmh.”

There was never anything longer than two characters.

Wen Yuluo sighed, opened the keyboard, and sent another message.

“What should I do? I’ve already started missing you.”

The director’s office was on the top floor of the research institute. With modern technology, the high-speed elevator took less than a minute to reach it, so fast that Wen Yuluo didn’t even have time to figure out his opening statement.

He knocked on the door and only entered after hearing a reply.

Li Yang was a person of great distinction and extreme seriousness. Having worked together for three years, Wen Yuluo had never seen him smile, which made every conversation with him extremely nerve-wracking.

“Sit down, Xiao Wen.”

Wen Yuluo nodded politely. “Director, regarding the ice-melting experiment.”

“Knowing that, you still, you still cover for him and punish me?”

Li Yang sighed. “Xiao Wen, Zhou Lin is an Omega and has the backing of the Zhou family. There has to be an outcome for this lab explosion. Could you possibly go tell the outside world that the explosion was caused by Zhou Lin fooling around with an Alpha in the laboratory?”

“If word got out like that, Zhou Lin’s life would be completely ruined. You are an Omega too; you know how much damage this kind of scandalous affair can do to an Omega.”

Wen Yuluo could barely breathe. He asked with a trembling voice, “Then what about me?”

“I’ve been at Lu Ying ever since I graduated. I spent three honest years at Lu Ying before finally getting the chance to lead an independent experiment. As a researcher, am I supposed to admit that the explosion was caused by my own incompetence? My reputation would be completely ruined as well!”

Seeing Wen Yuluo’s eyes turn red with anger, Li Yang felt a pang of sympathy, but still did not relent.

“Admitting to a lab failure at worst brands you as incompetent, but if the truth comes out, it will brand Zhou Lin as, promiscuous, dissolute, and lacking self-respect. After all, he is Zhou Zeyu’s own nephew, and the Zhou family will never allow such a thing to happen.”

Wen Yuluo asked, “So I just have to watch myself suffer this injustice?”

Li Yang replied, “The research institute won’t treat you unfairly, Xiao Wen.”

He picked up a document from his desk and handed it to Wen Yuluo.

He made up an excuse and left.

Wen Yuluo pulled out his phone. Hours had passed, and Qi You still hadn’t replied.

If the Qi family couldn’t step in to help him, and he had rejected the offer to go to Beicheng, Lu Ying would most likely fire him outright to give the Zhou family an explanation.
