- Chapter 54 - You’re Pregnant? Season Zhiye’s
Wei Qin didn’t even look back. Ji Zhiye didn’t dare chase after her, afraid of provoking her further and pushing things to a point of no return.
It was rare for Wei Qin to feel even a trace of heartache.
She knew very well that what she felt for Ji Zhiye was nothing more than a bit of fondness—certainly not love.
If she had chosen to marry Ji Zhiye, it was obviously because she valued the power and influence of her family. She wasn’t someone who would fall for a person casually. Absolutely not.
If her family disapproved of her, then why should she wrong herself for them?
As for this child… Wei Qin had no intention of keeping it.
She had more than enough money to stand on her own.
“Ji Zhiye, don’t you dare try to pester me again!”
Her voice, laced with fury, cut through the sound of the rain and reached Ji Zhiye’s ears.
That night, Ji Zhiye didn’t go home. She sat in a daze at the bar, while her friend Xiao Liangmu sat beside her, unable to bear the sight.
“I mean, you’re gorgeous. How are you any worse than that celebrity? And she actually dumped you? Unbelievable!” The male Alpha grumbled on her behalf—and also, in a way, for himself. He had been chasing his old university classmate for two or three years, only for some shameless Alpha named Li Mei to swoop in halfway.
Ji Zhiye shot him a glare. “Don’t you dare talk about her like that!”
Xiao Liangmu froze. Ji Zhiye had always been cool and composed, her temper mild despite her aloof demeanor. She had never raised her voice at anyone—until now.
“You… you really are lovesick,” he muttered helplessly.
“And you’re not?” Ji Zhiye fired back. “How long have you been chasing your university classmate now?”
Xiao Liangmu instantly fell silent.
Ji Zhiye lowered her gaze to the drink in front of her, lost in thought.
She knew Wei Qin’s temperament. Despite her claim that it was all about money, Wei Qin was too proud to be with someone for wealth alone. She wouldn’t have done all those things with Ji Zhiye if she hadn’t had feelings for her—even feelings Wei Qin herself might not realize she had.
Downing her drink in one go, Ji Zhiye felt at a loss. With no better option, she pulled out her phone and called someone.
“Oh? Your family doesn’t approve of the two of you? I thought you said they’d compromise once there was a baby,” Yan Run said, still at home and getting ready to drive to the hospital to pick up Yu Wenxi.
Yu Wenxi’s temper had been short lately, and she’d gone to the hospital with Liu Zhaoli to get checked out—without telling Yan Run. When Yan Run found out, she was so alarmed she insisted on going to pick her up herself.
“They don’t believe it. They want Qin Qin to go to the hospital for a check-up. But that made her furious—she felt her privacy was being invaded. Now she wants to break up with me. I… I feel awful. Where are you?
I need to see you.”
“I’m about to drive out. I’ll pick you up and take you to the hospital after—I’ve got to get my wife first.” Yan Run answered.
Ji Zhiye hung up reluctantly. For the first time, she understood what happiness could taste like—and wondered why some people’s families could be so accepting. Yan Run and Yu Wenxi were lucky.
When Ji Zhiye climbed into Yan Run’s car, she immediately began pouring out her frustrations.
It was the first time Yan Run had ever seen tears in the eyes of this usually cool Alpha. Somehow, it stirred something in her.
She had been through the same thing once, after all.
“Help me think of something,” Ji Zhiye pleaded. “Whatever you want in return, I’ll do it—anything.”
“Alright, alright. We’re friends. Of course I’ll help you.” Yan Run tried to reassure her as she drove, offering comfort to the pitiful Alpha.
“You… you really consider me a friend?” Ji Zhiye asked, startled.
“Sure. We may not have crossed paths much, but I’ve always admired your personality,” Yan Run said—mostly to cheer her up.
It worked. Ji Zhiye’s lips twitched in a faint smile.
“So what should I do?”
“First, let her cool off.” In truth, Yan Run had no idea what the right move was. She’d never dealt with an Omega like Wei Qin before.
In fact, aside from Yu Wenxi, she hadn’t really spent much time around any Omega. Clearly, this was a job for Yu Wenxi’s insight.
Meanwhile, Yu Wenxi sat in a VIP lounge, bundled up, waiting for Liu Zhaoli to return with the results.
Liu Zhaoli handed her the report and her bag. “Your health’s fine—just a bit overheated lately. Cut back on hotpot and the like.”
That was clearly from eating out with Yan Run.
Yu Wenxi hummed in acknowledgment. “Let’s step out and sign the contract. I’m planning to shoot a movie, then take a month or two off.”
“Going on a honeymoon with your wife?” Liu Zhaoli teased with a grin.
“Of course. She’s been so clingy lately. Even for a routine check-up, she thought something was seriously wrong and insisted on driving here to pick me up. I swear…” Yu Wenxi sighed helplessly, though the smile on her lips was nothing but sweet.
Liu Zhaoli chuckled. “Having such a clingy Alpha isn’t bad at all. The Omegas I know have spouses who are either too busy flaunting themselves outside to care, or glued to video games at home—sometimes they can barely get a word out of them.”
Yu Wenxi replied, “That’s why I tell you—dating is one thing, but marriage is serious business. Choose carefully.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know,” Liu Zhaoli said with a wry smile.
But as soon as they stepped out, they bumped right into an Omega whose striking presence radiated from head to toe, despite being completely covered up.
Yu Wenxi met her gaze and instantly recognized the woman—it was Wei Qin.
Likewise, Wei Qin knew this was Yu Wenxi. She spoke in her usual mocking tone.
“Well, well. Here to check if you can still have children?”
Yu Wenxi smiled. “My Alpha is in perfect health, thank you very much. And you? Why are you here alone?”
Wei Qin’s face suddenly flushed. “That’s… not something I can say.”
Yu Wenxi’s sharp eyes caught sight of the report in her hand. Wei Qin, looking guilty, quickly hid it behind her back.
“Zhaoli-jie, could you step outside for a moment? I need to speak with Miss Wei in private.” Yu Wenxi said.
Wei Qin frowned. “Hey, did you have to say it like that? Now they’ll all know I’m Wei Qin.”
Liu Zhaoli: “…” She had been wondering who this ‘Wei’ was, but with that slip, she now knew for sure.
Zhaoli stepped out, closing the door behind her.
Yu Wenxi crossed her arms. “With that kind of presence, who wouldn’t know you’re Wei Qin?”
Wei Qin gave a dismissive snort.
“So, what are you doing here? Still by yourself? Aren’t you worried about wearing yourself out?” Yu Wenxi muttered.
“Mind your own business.” Wei Qin replied.
“Given how many years we’ve known each other, I can’t help but care,” Yu Wenxi said with a smile.
That smile… was utterly fake.
Wei Qin felt a pang in her chest. Truth was, she didn’t have many friends. As much as she and Yu Wenxi had been at odds for years, she knew—especially during their time in the Love Cabin—that Yu Wenxi was, deep down, a good person. The kind who’d make a fine friend.
Far better than those so-called managers and assistants of hers.
“I want to get an abortion.” Wei Qin said flatly.
Even Yu Wenxi, usually calm and collected, was taken aback. “You’re pregnant? With Ji Zhiye’s child?”
Wei Qin nodded. “Yes. She told me that if I got pregnant, her parents would finally agree to let us marry. But when she took me to meet them, they still didn’t believe it. They insisted I get checked and show them the results myself.”
She let out a bitter laugh. “In that moment, I realized—married or not—those old traditionalists would never accept me. So why should I force myself to swallow years of humiliation? Better to cut things off now.”
Having spoken her mind, she felt oddly lighter, as though a weight had been lifted.
Yu Wenxi was silent for a while, then smiled faintly. “I respect your choice. You’re right.”
“Wife, I’m here!”
The door suddenly swung open, and Yan Run and Ji Zhiye stepped inside. “Zhaoli-jie said you were here—eh? And this is…?”
“Qin Qin!” Ji Zhiye blurted out. She rushed forward and threw her arms around Wei Qin. “Qin Qin, what are you doing here?”
Yan Run was stunned. How could she recognize Wei Qin so easily? She was bundled up so tightly that only her mouth was moving.
“Let go of me,” Wei Qin snapped.
Ji Zhiye caught sight of the paper Wei Qin was hiding. She grabbed it and saw the abortion fee statement. Realization hit her instantly.
“Qin Qin, you’re going to have an abortion?” Ji Zhiye’s body went cold. “I won’t allow it!”
“Since when do you get to allow or disallow anything?” Wei Qin shot back.
Ji Zhiye’s hands trembled, her fingers clenching painfully. Fighting back tears, she asked, “What will it take for you to forgive me? I’ll never believe you’re only marrying me for my family’s sake. Deep down, you love me, don’t you?”
Wei Qin sneered. “My love or lack of it isn’t something you get to measure. I marry if I want to, and I don’t if I don’t. What business is it of yours?”
“But this is our child! You promised you’d keep her—you said it yourself!” Ji Zhiye’s voice broke.
“I did. But I also have the right to change my mind. Remember this—this is my body, my womb. Whether I give birth or not is up to me, not you.”
Wei Qin had meant those words to be the final, cutting blow—to shatter this timid Alpha completely. But to her surprise, there was no satisfaction in it. Instead, seeing Ji Zhiye’s tears made her own chest ache.
“Fine. That’s your right—I can’t take it from you. But I have my own right too,” Ji Zhiye said, her voice trembling with urgency. “You call me a spoiled daddy’s girl? Then I’ll give up that title. I’ll prove I have a backbone!”
Without thinking, she pulled out her phone and dialed her father’s number.
Yu Wenxi and Yan Run exchanged a glance. What on earth was she doing?
In front of Wei Qin, Ji Zhiye spoke into the phone:
“Dad, I need you to understand something. In this lifetime, I’m not marrying anyone but Wei Qin. Don’t bother trying to set me up with someone else. I’ve made up my mind. If you can’t accept that, then I’ll leave the Ji family. I’ll go wherever I want, do whatever I want, and you’ll have no say in it. This is my life.”
She hung up before her father could respond, ignoring the calls that immediately came back.
Wei Qin stared at her, stunned. She had assumed Ji Zhiye would bend to her parents’ will, return to the comfort of the Ji estate, and keep her status as the envied daughter of a powerful family. She never expected her to throw all of that away.
“You’re insane,” Wei Qin said with a cold laugh.
But Ji Zhiye’s expression was calm—no trace of regret or shame. “I’m not. The only thing I regret is not meeting you sooner. I don’t even know why I like you this much. I just know that your smile, your voice, your temper—everything about you—has me completely hooked. I’ll never forget you. Qin Qin, for you, I’ll gladly be a lovesick fool. For you, I’d walk away from the Ji family. For you, I’d give up wealth and status. All I want… is to be with you. Only then will I feel like my life was truly worth living.”
Yu Wenxi whispered to Yan Run, “She’s hopelessly love-struck.”
Yan Run arched a brow. “I’d give up wealth and status to be with you too, you know.”
Yu Wenxi: “…”
Why did that sound like she was jealous?
Wei Qin was left at a loss. She had thought long and hard about ending the pregnancy. Yet now, hearing Ji Zhiye’s words, she couldn’t stop thinking about what their child might look like.
And that… was a problem.
