- Chapter 53 - I Really Am After Your Family’s Wealth
Yan Run’s gaze softened. She hopped down from the car, slipped an arm around her wife’s slender waist, and laughed.
“Then whatever you want to eat, just tell me, Jie. I know this area like the back of my hand—hahaha.”
Watching Yu Wenxi’s smile, Yan Run felt it was all worth it.
The pancake stall nearby didn’t have any available seats, so Yan Run found them another place—an old shop that served delicious soup dumplings.
Luckily, they weren’t too early, and the place was fairly empty. Most of the patrons were older and not exactly the type to keep up with celebrity gossip.
Even when they spotted Yu Wenxi, they didn’t seem to recognize the famous actress; at most, they thought she looked familiar or simply too beautiful to forget—yet the name didn’t come to mind.
Yan Run said to the owner, “One steamer of soup dumplings, a bowl of savory soy milk, and a bowl of wontons, please.”
While the boss was still clearing the table, Yan Run wiped it down herself and ushered Yu Wenxi to sit. The table was a little greasy, but the usually fastidious Yu Wenxi didn’t complain. Instead, she gave Yan Run a smile as warm and gentle as jade.
Soon, the owner brought over steaming soup dumplings, the soy milk, and the wontons.
The freshly made dumplings let out curls of steam, each white and plump like a little bun-shaped snowball, folded perfectly into blossoms.
Yan Run set a small dish on the table, scooped in some chili and vinegar for dipping.
In A City, street food was king. Their handmade soup dumplings were delicate and translucent, but too rich on their own—vinegar was a must to cut through the grease.
Savory soy milk here was made with soy sauce and scallions; some places added fried dough sticks and a touch of chili oil. The salty fragrance was rich and smooth, the soy milk curdled by the soy sauce into a soft tofu-like texture with clear broth on top.
The wontons were tiny compared to other cities’ dumpling-sized versions—translucent wrappers stuffed with just enough filling, floating alongside seaweed, dried shrimp, and pickled vegetables.
—Ugh, I want some so badly. We don’t have anything like this where I live.
—Remember to visit A City! We’ve got soup dumplings, egg-stuffed pan buns, tofu rice cakes… it’s a carb-lover’s paradise.
—I’ve had the egg-stuffed buns before! I used to eat them all the time in college.
Yu Wenxi had eaten these before—but only when Tang Ming brought them home or when the chefs at her house made them, plated with meticulous care, beautiful in appearance and taste.
The flavor had always been good, but she never found herself particularly drawn to it.
She didn’t know why, but somehow, when she came here with Yan Run, everything tasted different.
Yan Run picked up a soup dumpling, dipped it lightly in vinegar, and placed it on the small plate in front of Yu Wenxi with a grin.
“Jie, you have to eat this while it’s hot—it’s the best that way.”
Yu Wenxi smiled, gave a soft hum in reply, blew on it for a moment, then took a bite.
The delicate flavor immediately woke her appetite, and the vinegar cut through any hint of greasiness.
—Aww, they’re like a little married couple hiding away from the world—so harmonious.
—I’m so jealous. When will I get a love like this?
—I hope they’re happy forever.
Yu Wenxi scooped up a spoonful of savory soy milk. It was unlike any broth she’d had before—though salty, it carried a creamy aroma almost like milk. The wontons had soup like dumplings, but Yu Wenxi passed most of the filling to Yan Run, who was still not satisfied and ordered another steamer—this time, tofu buns.
The thin tofu-skin wrappers tore at the slightest poke, revealing tender tofu inside, far lighter than any meat filling.
All Yu Wenxi had to do now was eat—Yan Run took care of dipping each bun and placing it on her plate.
“Jie,” Yan Run said with a playful smile, “this time you’re not allowed to skip eating for the sake of dieting. You have to eat until you’re full.”
She’d said the same thing last time she took Yu Wenxi for sticky rice and pancakes.
Back then, they had only just gotten together, and Yu Wenxi’s feelings for her weren’t nearly as deep.
At the time, she’d scoffed jokingly, “Yan Run, don’t lecture me. I’ll eat however much I want.”
Yan Run had blinked at her pitifully. “Jie, you’re so fierce. I just want you to eat a little more.”
Yu Wenxi sighed. “When was I ever fierce to you?”
Always acting pitiful—did she really think that would make her heart ache?
Still, Yan Run’s food recommendations were undeniably good. Though Yu Wenxi pretended to eat less in front of her, she secretly went back later with Tang Ming to buy the same breakfast.
But Yan Run had assumed she didn’t like it and felt a bit dejected, going out of her way to find new dishes just to make her smile.
It wasn’t until Yan Run lost her memory that Yu Wenxi finally took her to buy the breakfast she’d once pretended to dislike, telling her she actually loved it and thanking her for bringing her there.
Now, Yu Wenxi no longer dared to speak in reverse to her Alpha. She smiled and nodded, determined to make Yan Run happy—especially since this was their last livestream together.
After eating, Yu Wenxi drove them to the outskirts of the city.
The scenery outside looked familiar to Yan Run. She laughed, “Jie, are you taking me somewhere we’ve been before?”
Yu Wenxi nodded. “We were here not too long ago.”
It was the lavender field.
—Hey, isn’t this the same place again?
—Why are they back here?
—You don’t get it. This must be their special place.
—How sweet—starting and ending at the same spot. I’m in tears.
—Okay, fine, I take it back. I won’t call Yan Run ‘Ergou’ anymore. Let’s give her a new title.
—How about ‘Yu’s wife’?
—Or ‘saozi’?
Of course Yan Run remembered coming here with Yu Wenxi when she’d lost her memory. Back then, Yu Wenxi had told her all about their past, and she’d almost fallen asleep listening.
This time, she wouldn’t doze off.
“Jie, thank you for bringing me here. I really like it.”
Though the lavender wasn’t as lush as before, Yan Run’s heart felt as calm and warm as a sunlit lake.
Yu Wenxi took her hand, leading her to a soft patch of grass where they lay down together.
The blue sky and white clouds hung above, sunlight bathing the pair who, in the eyes of the world, were an exceptionally loving couple.
The Omega’s grip tightened, the Alpha’s eyes met hers, and their gazes overflowed with tenderness.
Hu Ye looked at the camera and grinned. “Zoom in—let our viewers see just how affectionate our Miss and Madam are.”
Behind them, Yan Zhi raised a brow. “Do you really need to keep filming?” she said coolly.
Hu Ye nearly jumped out of his skin. “Whoa—Miss, when did you get here? Scared me half to death. This was President Yan’s order, okay? He even said he wants to make a second season and hopes you’ll join—and he wants to invite Miss Ye from the capital too.”
Yan Zhi shivered. That father of hers!
Still, the atmosphere between those two did look like something straight out of a drama.
It wasn’t just the crew—viewers watching the stream were also glued to their screens.
—Tsk, if they don’t kiss after this, I’ll riot.
—Kiss, kiss, kiss! I can’t take it anymore.
—Stop crowding the chat, you’re blocking my view of even their hair strands.
—Ahhh! I missed Xixi’s on-screen first kiss, and now I’m seeing it here instead.
—Xixi is gorgeous, her wife is gorgeous, and my ship is REAL!
Before long, Yan Run leaned in, her warm breath swaying in the breeze.
When the wind stilled, a kiss fell softly at the corner of the Omega’s lips—lingering, tender, like an unending spring of love.
Yu Wenxi quietly returned the kiss, the faint scent of rain-washed oranges warming her heart in an instant.
She loved her—loved this woman who loved her—so much that she wished she could hold her forever and spend her whole life cherishing her.
Backstage, Hu Ye let out an excited scream the moment he saw the scene.
Assistant Director: “Ahhh—so sweet!”
A few crew members were even moved to tears, murmuring through choked voices, “They’ve been through so much… it’s really not easy.”
Most of them knew about Yan Run’s memory loss. They understood she had forgotten everything—her wife’s devotion, the countless moments of love they had shared.
Perhaps this dating reality show had done more than record their lives. It had also witnessed the shift in public opinion—from initial scorn and criticism in the livestream chat to genuine praise. And thanks to that,
Second Miss Yan’s reputation had been salvaged.
Hu Ye said with a laugh, “Before she lost her memory, Second Miss Yan never lingered on Madam with even a shred of genuine affection. You’d never see her love like this before. Now look at them—truly a happy ending, hahaha!”
Yan Zhi: “…” So none of you know she’s gotten her memory back?

That night, Ji Zhiye and Wei Qin, as well as Xu Tangran and Wang Yunfan, confessed to each other and officially became couples.
Yan Run and Yu Wenxi were there to witness both budding romances.
In the end, joining the show had been worth it.
After recording their final on-camera remarks, the livestream came to a complete close.
Night fell, and the stars lit the sky.
The two of them strolled by the lakeside, still wrapped up in each other’s warmth.
Hu Ye came over and asked, “Second Madam, do you know if Old Madam He had anything to say after watching?”
Yu Wenxi immediately understood—Yan Huainan must have sent Hu Ye to probe how the Yu family had reacted.
After all, when the show first aired, many in the livestream comments had been scolding Yan Run. And given the old rumors, the Yu family hadn’t thought highly of her. If not for Yu Wenxi’s own determination to marry Yan Run, and her steadfastness in the face of doubt, their marriage might never have happened.
Yu Wenxi smiled faintly. “My grandmother watches every episode. She said that in the early stages, A-Yan was rather reserved, but later on, she could see her deep devotion to me.”
Hu Ye thought to himself that it was probably for the best the old lady only watched the videos and never read the barrage of livestream comments.
He carefully asked, “And what about President Yu and Madam Yu?”
“Don’t worry,” Yu Wenxi replied with a calm smile. “No matter what they say, it won’t affect our relationship.”

While things were peaceful here, it was a different story for Ji Zhiye.
Her father had assumed she was just playing around with this celebrity. He never expected she would truly want to be with her.
He immediately summoned the two back home.
“Is it true? You’re really pregnant?” In the grand Ji family residence, President Ji stared at his timid daughter and the defiant Wei Qin, his voice edged with disbelief.
Ji Zhiye gritted her teeth. “Yes. It’s true.”
He looked up sharply, shocked that his daughter would speak to him so boldly for the sake of a woman.
Although she had already told him once before that Wei Qin was pregnant, he had refused to believe it.
His tone turned cold. “We’ll go to the hospital first. I want to see the report myself before I believe it.”
Those words set Wei Qin off immediately. She had never been one to be led by the nose, and now she snapped, “Why should I listen to you and go for a check-up? What if I’m pregnant? What if I’m not? Either way, it’s none of your business!”
“Tsk, truly a spoiled little star from the entertainment industry. Do you even realize who you’re talking to?” sneered Ji Yi, her uncle, clearly disdainful of anyone from Wei Qin’s background.
Ji Zhiye grew anxious, trying to placate him. “Uncle, please… stop talking.”
Madam Ji didn’t like Wei Qin either. To her, this girl had a terrible temper—and what’s worse, her own daughter, who was also hot-tempered, somehow became meek in front of her.
“Hmph. I say she’s just after our family fortune.” Madam Ji said.
“Auntie,” Wei Qin shot back with a cold smile, “you’re not entirely wrong. I am after your family’s fortune. Otherwise, why would I be with an Alpha who doesn’t even dare stand up to her own family?”
Ji Zhiye stared at her in disbelief, her heart sinking. “Qin Qin… you’re not like this.”
Wei Qin yanked her hand free and bolted for the door. Ji Zhiye panicked and ran after her. “Qin Qin, don’t be mad. We can talk about this. Please don’t be mad!”
Wei Qin didn’t stop. “Ji Zhiye, remember this—I like you for my own reasons. But since your family doesn’t like me, why should I stay?”
“Tell me the truth,” Ji Zhiye pleaded, “you’re with me because you love me, not because of my family’s money, right?”
“I’m with you for your family’s wealth!” Wei Qin’s voice rang out as she finally dropped all pretenses. “With all that money, I can live in luxury without ever having to take on another acting job. That’s why I agreed to be with you.”
“But… before, when I chased you, you wouldn’t even give me the time of day!” Ji Zhiye protested, desperate for the answer she wanted.
“So what? When I like someone, it’s not because of their family’s riches. Your only real ‘virtue’ just happens to be your wealth.” Wei Qin’s eyes hardened. The memory of Ji Zhiye’s tearful pleading moments ago only made her feel more disgusted.
In her mind, this Alpha would one day bow to her parents’ will and abandon her. And as for the luxury she’d joked about—she didn’t need it; she had plenty of money herself. Why waste her time on someone like this?
But Ji Zhiye still refused to believe it. She clung to Wei Qin’s wrist. “I won’t let go. I don’t believe you…”
A sharp smack split the air.
Wei Qin’s slap landed hard, leaving a bright red print on Ji Zhiye’s cheek. Ji Zhiye stared at her in shock. Even when Wei Qin didn’t like her and spoke to her with biting sarcasm, she had never raised a hand before.
Now, Wei Qin’s gaze was icy—colder and more cutting than she had ever seen.
Fear crept into Ji Zhiye’s chest. She let go, left standing there helplessly.
In the patter of the rain, Wei Qin exhaled heavily, turned away, and walked off.
Ji Zhiye’s voice broke as she called after her, “Qin Qin… don’t leave me!”
