- Chapter 52 - Why Does This Lang Feng Always Go After Good-Looking Alphas?
That day, the show entered another livestream segment.
Hu Ye passed on the news to Yan Run that the romance variety show was nearing its end.
— Let’s go big for the finale!!
Yan Run rolled her eyes. You’re about to get fired and you still want to “go big”?
Looking at her sleeping wife, Yan Run’s heart softened. She leaned over, planted a kiss on her cheek, and whispered, “I’m going to make breakfast.”
Yu Wenxi gave a faint hum of acknowledgment and let her go.
This time, Yan Run cooked for everyone. She worked quickly, and when she saw Xu Zhaozhao coming downstairs, she called for him to eat. Holding two breakfast trays, she placed one beside Yu Wenxi and took the other upstairs to Xu Tangran.
Xu Tangran had already woken up but hadn’t gone downstairs yet. Her parents had grilled him last night, wanting to know what had happened. He didn’t want to talk about it—he just wanted the whole embarrassing incident erased from memory.
The door wasn’t locked, so Yan Run entered without difficulty.
Xu Tangran was surprised to see Yan Run bringing him breakfast. “What stroke of luck is this, that Second Miss Yan herself delivers my meal?” he teased.
Yan Run smiled. “You looked a little down, so I brought it up for you.”
Xu Tangran pressed his lips together. Wang Yunfan had already comforted him a lot the night before, so his mood had eased. Since he felt Wang Yunfan was worth keeping close, he intended to cherish the relationship. “Then thanks,” he said.
Seeing that Yan Run made no move to leave, Xu Tangran asked, “What is it?”
Yan Run exhaled. “There’s something I want to ask you.”
Xu Tangran glanced at the spread of breakfast, his mood improving further. He smiled. “You’ve already brought me breakfast—just ask.”
“Do you know a female Alpha named Lang Feng?”
Xu Tangran bit into a steamed bun, then widened his eyes at Yan Run and nodded. “Yeah, I know her. Why?”
“How did you two meet?” Yan Run asked again.
“Oh, we went to the same university. She was my junior, and we met through a club. She approached me first, and I thought she was someone I could get along with, so we became friends” Xu Tangran stated.
“And did you ever notice her doing anything… unusual toward you?” Yan Run asked again.
Xu Tangran shook his head. “Not really. We’d hang out, and she always wanted to share a room with me, but I don’t like rooming with others, so I refused every time. She never forced it… though she’d buy me girly things I told her I didn’t like, and she’d still insist on giving them to me, along with cheesy pick-up lines. My other friends said she had feelings for me, but I thought, What nonsense—an Alpha liking another
Alpha? Later, we lost touch for a while, but recently reconnected. We even visited the racetrack together. Since you all came, she stayed behind drinking at the estate and didn’t join in.”
Hearing this, Yan Run felt both disgusted and amused.
What’s with this Lang Feng? Does she only go after the good-looking Alphas?
Xu Tangran noticed her sly smile and asked, “Do you think she likes me too? But she’s an Alpha.”
“Who says Alphas can’t like other Alphas?” Yan Run cut her off.
Xu Tangran froze, then subconsciously touched his lips, his thoughts growing stranger by the second.
“But aside from that, I think she’s pretty loyal,” he admitted honestly.
“That’s only because she doesn’t like you enough. Someone like her drools over any good-looking Alpha” Yan Run declared.
Xu Tangran finished his bun, still processing those words.
That’s… terrifying.
Seeing his startled expression, Yan Run sighed. No wonder—she has been sheltered by her family her whole life. So naïve.
If that was the case, it meant Lang Feng had been at the racetrack that day too—and might have known she was coming, enough to send someone to stir up trouble.
Who would’ve thought that after all these years, Lang Feng still held such a grudge against her?
“Tangran, I need to ask you another favor.”
“Go ahead.”
“Find me a chance to meet her.” Yan Run said.
“You know her?”
“She was my high school classmate.”
Yan Run smiled faintly. “Just want to catch up.”
After leaving Xu Tangran’s room, Yan Run returned to hers and Yu Wenxi’s, only to hear Yu Wenxi on the phone inside.
“Alright, got it.”
“No worries, we’re friends. Why would I be mad?”
“Okay, you don’t have to worry.”
Once she hung up, Yan Run grinned. “Who was that, jie?”
“Chuyin,” Yu Wenxi replied.
Yan Run had met Lin Chuyin before, back when she and Yu Wenxi were dating and had dinner with her right after she’d returned from abroad. She remembered Chuyin as impossibly gentle, toward everyone and everything.
But Yan Run’s focus had been entirely on Yu Wenxi, so her impression of Chuyin boiled down to one thing—gentleness.
As for Gu Zhen, who liked Lin Chuyin, Yan Run actually thought Chuyin was a bit unlucky to have met that one.
“She wants to invite us to dinner—with Gu Zhen,” Yu Wenxi said.
Yan Run blinked. “Dinner I can do, but with her?” Just thinking about the way Gu Zhen had spoken badly about Yu Wenxi made her grind her teeth.
Yu Wenxi laughed, hugged Yan Run, and kissed her lightly.
“Come on, Chuyin’s my best friend. I even asked her to be my bridesmaid for the wedding. For her sake, just let it go. Besides, I’m not even mad,” Yu Wenxi said. She’d long since tuned out anything Gu Zhen had said—after all, the woman hardly seemed sane.
Yan Run gave a noncommittal “oh,” but she still wasn’t letting it go. She was already planning to verbally spar with Gu Zhen at the dinner.
Yu Wenxi, on the other hand, suspected Chuyin’s reason for bringing Gu Zhen along wasn’t simple. She knew plenty of Alphas had pursued Chuyin, but only Gu Zhen had made her pause.
To Yu Wenxi, Gu Zhen looked every bit the lunatic—except when it came to Lin Chuyin.
The next day, preparations began for the finale of the show.
That day, Xu Zhaozhao and Yu Chen finally had their biggest fight yet.
Hu Ye had originally hoped they’d save it for after filming wrapped, but the two ended up exploding over Yu Chen’s silent treatment, arguing from the bedroom to the living room.
Thanks to Yan Run’s earlier advice, Xu Tangran had reconciled with Wang Yunfan. Gao Ge, chastened by Yan Zhi after his last outburst, could only watch the two openly show affection. Ji Zhiye and Wei Qin were perfectly content.
Wei Qin’s parents had learned more about her and had finally agreed to let them be together.
The fight between Xu Zhaozhao and Yu Chen left Hu Ye frazzled. It wasn’t until Yan Run brought up contractual obligations—along with the penalty fee—that the two, who’d only joined the show to make money and flaunt their relationship, stopped arguing.
That evening, Ji Zhiye and Xu Tangran were both preparing to confess.
Ji Zhiye didn’t even need to try—she’d already paved the way, and soon had her beauty in her arms.
Xu Tangran, meanwhile, remembered the time he was recovering in bed and Wang Yunfan came to his room.
“I’ve never dated before. I don’t know what would make you happy,” Wang Yunfan said, her eyes turning red. “I honestly had no idea Gao Ge would do something like that to you.”
Xu Tangran couldn’t bear to see her cry. He quickly wiped her tears. “Don’t cry. Look—I’m fine now, aren’t I?”
“I’ve caused you trouble. I’m so sorry…” Wang Yunfan sniffled. Xu Tangran hated seeing the Omega he liked in tears, so he reached for a tissue—only to fall off the bed.
Startled, Wang Yunfan stopped crying immediately and hurried to help him up. “What if you’d hurt yourself again?” she scolded.
Without the tissue, Xu Tangran could only use his sleeve to wipe his tears again and again, coaxing softly, “As long as you’re not upset… and not sad. I just don’t want you to be sad.”
Wang Yunfan choked up, then suddenly hugged him. Xu Tangran froze, then hugged her back tightly. Even though they’d only known each other a few days, he couldn’t explain why he’d fallen for her at first sight.
Quietly, he asked, “If the time comes, would you be willing to be with me?”
He gave a self-deprecating laugh—confessing after only a few days of knowing each other was rash and might startle her. It wasn’t exactly a smart move.
But Wang Yunfan said nothing. She just wiped her eyes and mumbled, “Wait until you confess, then we’ll see.”
Soon, the final confession day arrived. The audience had been waiting eagerly; the livestream count had already surpassed ten million. And with Yan Run’s reputation steadily improving, the comment section had grown much friendlier—though viewers were now egging her on to have a baby.
Seeing the trending topic, Yan Run was anxious too. She wanted a child herself!
That morning, she opened her eyes to see Yu Wenxi in the bathroom washing up.
Yawning, she wandered in, hugged her from behind, and rested her head on her shoulder, almost dozing off again.
Yu Wenxi woke her gently. “Baby, if you stay like this, I can’t change my clothes.”
Her tone was full of indulgence.
Yan Run was almost overwhelmed.
After all, when she’d been chasing Yu Wenxi, she’d endured cold indifference. To now be treated like this by the person she loved—it was deeply satisfying.
“Then let your wife dress you, jie,” she teased.
Yu Wenxi wiped her hands and shook her head. “No, you’d mess it up.”
She walked into the bedroom, opened the wardrobe, and carefully selected a floral midi dress. Yan Run honestly couldn’t think of a single color or style that didn’t suit her.
It was the final day, and others would be confessing as well. As witnesses, they ought to dress nicely.
After all, she wasn’t the only Alpha here.
— Today was wonderful.
— At this rate, we’ll be engaged in a few days.
— So soon?
Reading Ji Zhiye’s cheerful messages, Yan Run was momentarily speechless.
Yu Wenxi looked at her in a suit with large, loose curls and felt her heart stir. “Let me decide the day’s plan.”
“Of course,” Yan Run agreed instantly. “But first, breakfast.”
“I’ll drive us,” Yu Wenxi smiled.
Yan Run enjoyed being chauffeured by Yu Wenxi. Usually, she was the one driving, but in terms of skill, Yu Wenxi was just as good.
“What’s jiejie taking me to eat?”
She asked sweetly, glancing at Yu Wenxi’s delicate profile, feeling a small jolt in her chest. Yu Wenxi, focused on the road, looked stunning.
“You’ve been there before,” Yu Wenxi replied.
She drove them to the same morning market Yan Run had once brought her to.
Getting out of the car, Yu Wenxi said, “I used to be afraid of being seen and never dared eat here with you. Now… will you sit down and have breakfast with me?”
Yan Run’s heart gave a little twist.
She was a hot-ticket actress—stepping onto any random street risked being swarmed for autographs.
She’d never dared hope to eat out with Yu Wenxi.
“You really want to?” she asked hesitantly.
Yu Wenxi’s smile was warm. “I want to do things with you I’ve never done before.”
