- Chapter 48 - Looks Like You Two Are About to Tie the Knot
The camerawoman felt cheated—she was sure the livestream audience would roast her if she didn’t capture something juicy. So now she kept her eyes glued to them, determined to catch Yan Run stealing a kiss from Yu Wenxi.
And sure enough, her instincts were right. Yan Run was all over Yu Wenxi—if she wasn’t tickling her, she was leaning in to breathe warm air against her ear, teasing like a mischievous child.
The camerawoman was speechless.
Eventually, Yan Run simply leaned lazily against Yu Wenxi, the two of them watching videos on her phone. The fiery kissing scene from earlier was nowhere to be found.
The camerawoman couldn’t help wondering—was Yan Run getting shy?
Of course not. Yan Run wasn’t shy in the least. Beauty in her arms, audience in the room—so what? A kiss was nothing. Actors had love scenes with a dozen people watching right off-camera.
Just as Yan Run was about to sneak in an attack on Yu Wenxi’s lips, the vehicle stopped.
That was odd. They hadn’t arrived yet.
Then a familiar voice drifted in, and Yan Run turned her head—it was Xu Zhaozhao and Yu Chen.
Apparently, they’d been hitching rides too. By chance, they’d run into an older man heading to Rainbow Grassland and managed to charm their way aboard.
The two of them were equally surprised to see Yan Run and Yu Wenxi. Xu Zhaozhao explained, “We hitched a ride earlier, but the driver wasn’t going to Rainbow Grassland, so he dropped us off nearby. Luckily, we met this kind-hearted gentleman.”
Yan Run hummed an acknowledgment, then promptly leaned back against Yu Wenxi’s shoulder to keep watching her phone.
Xu Zhaozhao’s smile froze. From his angle, the two women’s intimacy was obvious—one chattering away, the other affectionately patting her head to quiet her. No matter how you looked at it, they were perfect ship material.
Meanwhile, the space between him and Yu Chen was… vast.
No talking. No handholding. Not even a glance.
Xu Zhaozhao couldn’t help remembering the day Yu Chen had confessed to him. A pang of bitterness tightened his chest.
Seven years of love—gone, just like that.
He resorted to texting:
Xu Zhaozhao: The cameras are rolling. Please, can you at least act a little?
Yu Chen pressed his lips together in frustration. He honestly couldn’t think of a single thing to say to Xu Zhaozhao. There was just… nothing there anymore.
Yu Chen: I’m a bit tired right now.
Xu Zhaozhao: But we’re filming a variety show. The audience is watching us.
Yu Chen: They’re watching them. Who’s going to watch us?
Xu Zhaozhao: Yu Chen, what’s that supposed to mean?
Yu Chen: I just don’t have anything to say to you. I really don’t know what to talk about.
Xu Zhaozhao froze. That phrase made his heart stutter.
He remembered when they’d been happy, and Yu Chen had once told him he’d never find someone else who fit beside him on screen—he believed Xu Zhaozhao was his fate.
But when the love was gone—
This was what it became.
When Xu Zhaozhao didn’t reply, Yu Chen turned to Yan Run instead. “You two have such a great relationship. Having things to talk about really makes things less awkward.”
Xu Zhaozhao’s eyes widened. Was that a dig at him?
Yan Run grinned. “When two people like each other, even the most boring conversations feel interesting.”
Yu Chen was at a loss for words.
Sensing the tension between them, Yan Run tried to help. “You could also talk about the problems between you. Work them out, and your relationship will only get better.”
Yu Chen let out a dry laugh. “Some relationships don’t need to get better.”
Yan Run frowned. “Zhaozhao doesn’t seem too happy,” she hinted, urging Yu Chen to go comfort him.
Yu Chen stayed put.
“You’re not going to comfort him?” Yan Run pressed.
“He’s like this every day,” Yu Chen replied flatly.
“Don’t say that. Omegas can be very sensitive. As Alphas, it’s our job to love and care for them—and Zhaozhao’s such a good person…”
Halfway through, Yan Run’s heart gave a jolt. Her wife was right next to her—how could she praise another Omega like that? She instinctively glanced at Yu Wenxi, who in turn gave Xu Zhaozhao a brief look.
Yu Chen said calmly, “I think Zhaozhao’s pretty strong. He can handle it himself.”
That was the last straw. Xu Zhaozhao turned away, wiping at his eyes. He never would have imagined Yu Chen could be so heartless after seven years together. Why? Why did he have to be so cruel?
Yan Run fell silent, but Yu Wenxi chuckled. “You must be a truly selfless woman. Just don’t come crying to us if you regret it later.”
The words had a bite to them, and Yu Chen’s face darkened.
“Haha, I’m fine. What are you two even talking about?” Xu Zhaozhao forced a laugh, trying to smooth things over after wiping away his tears.
The car fell into an awkward silence.
It wasn’t until they reached Rainbow Grassland and saw the others that the atmosphere finally warmed again.
Looking at the small truck they had arrived in, Wei Qin crossed her arms and said to Yu Wenxi, “A pampered young lady like you can handle riding in that?”
Yu Wenxi shrugged. “I thought it was a great experience. I got to see beautiful scenery… and my wife took a bunch of photos of me.”
Wei Qin shook her head in disbelief. She couldn’t appreciate the beauty Yu Wenxi spoke of—riding in that truck had been exhausting.
“How did you guys get here?” Yan Run asked.
From behind, where she was shading Wei Qin with an umbrella and fanning her, Ji Zhiye smiled. “We came in my butler’s car.”
Yan Run blinked. “Aren’t we not supposed to spend money?”
Ji Zhiye gave her a strange look. “Of course I didn’t spend money. All I have to do is make a phone call and my butler comes.”
Wei Qin laughed. “Seems like some people don’t even realize—so inconsiderate to their own wives.”
Yu Wenxi countered, “I think it’s much more romantic this way.”
Wei Qin assumed she was being mocked. “My Alpha is the most romantic of all.”
At the mention of it, her cheeks flushed slightly. Seeing that Ji Zhiyé was still chatting with Yan Run, she figured she probably hadn’t overheard.
Yu Wenxi smiled. “Looks like you two are well on your way to becoming the real deal.”
Wei Qin cleared her throat. “It’s still early. At least… we don’t even know if I’m pregnant yet.”
Yan Run mulled it over, realizing she could have just asked Su He to drive them. Why hadn’t that thought crossed her mind sooner?
Hu Ye had come up with this mission precisely because he wanted Yan Run to play the domineering CEO for once—arriving with a convoy of cars, bodyguards in tow, to escort her wife to the scenic spot. He never expected the Second Miss to be so obedient.
He had even emphasized earlier that as long as no money was spent, everything was fine. How did she manage to misunderstand that? So foolish! And to make matters worse, the kiss in the car hadn’t even been caught on camera by the photographer. What a loss!
Rainbow Grasslands had very few visitors, just like the amusement park back in Lancheng—obviously Ji Zhiyé’s doing again.
Inside, staff members and restaurant owners alike kept calling out “Miss” to Ji Zhiyé, pulling out all the stops. They even sent flowers and poured drinks for Wei Qin, who happily enjoyed the perks.
Yan Run wasn’t too pleased. It felt like Ji Zhiyé was stealing the spotlight. Not that public attention mattered much to her, but Ji Zhiyé’s presence was far too dazzling. Ah… guess she could only blame herself for not giving her wife enough of a grand show.
No. An Alpha’s competitive spirit was about to ignite.
She was going to outshine Ji Zhiyé.
Han Shu, watching the hand-in-hand “wives” ahead, finally abandoned any thought of trying to seduce Yan Run—offending the Yu family was not something he could afford.
But standing next to him, Gao Ge… well, he was neither as good looking as Yan Run nor as wealthy as Ji Zhiyé. Who else could he possibly take interest in? Only Xu Tangran seemed promising—but unfortunately, she was already chatting away like old friends with Wang Yunfan.
Gao Ge himself was also sneaking glances at the lively Xu Tangran and Wang Yunfan. Today, Wang Yunfan looked radiant in a long dress with her hair in a neat braid, the very image of a young woman on the brink of romance. Beside her, Xu Tangran, with his short, crisp haircut and clean-cut suit, spoke with a dry wit that had the “maiden” laughing again and again.
Gao Ge felt both envious and jealous. After all, he and Wang Yunfan had once gotten along so well.
At the back of the group, Xu Zhaozhao and Yu Chen trailed along. Yu Chen looked nonchalantly at the surrounding gardens and buildings, while Xu Zhaozhao’s gaze lingered on the affectionate couples ahead, his eyes brimming with yearning.
It seemed he and Yu Chen would never grow old together.
True to its name, Rainbow Grasslands was an artificial meadow. Inside were Mongolian yurts, horseback riding activities…
And even rainbow-colored hot air balloons.
During lunch, Hu Ye sent out a new mission: whichever team managed to buy the only rainbow bracelet in the entire scenic area would earn the right to ride the hot air balloon for a public love confession.
It was the perfect chance for Ji Zhiyé.
Fortunately, most of the scenic spot’s staff were already under her arrangements. There was no way she wouldn’t be able to find it.
Sure enough, a few minutes later, she received a message from one of her people: the rainbow bracelet was hidden inside the Rainbow Castle Restaurant.
Ji Zhiyé turned to Wei Qin. “Qin Qin, are you hungry?”
“A little,” Wei Qin admitted.
Immediately, Ji Zhiyé called out to the others, “Everyone! Lunch is on me today—how about we all eat together at the Rainbow Castle Restaurant up ahead?”
The group clapped in agreement. “Sounds great!”
Inside, there were no large tables—only two-seaters, since it was a couples-themed place—so the ten of them had to split up across nearby spots.
This actually worked in Yan Run’s favor. She turned to Ji Zhiyé with a polite smile. “Miss Ji, prices here are so steep—you’re really spoiling us. How about this: I’ll cover all the desserts, for everyone in here.”
Xu Tangran clapped. “Now that’s real style, Second Miss Yan.”
Ji Zhiyé chuckled, giving a thumbs-up, but inside she seethed. This damn woman was obviously trying to steal her thunder!
Yu Wenxi was practically in stitches. These two were at it again. She glanced at Wei Qin, who merely shrugged as if to say, Let them have their fun.
Ji Zhiyé subtly scanned the restaurant.
“What are you looking for?” Wei Qin asked.
“Qin Qin, have you seen a rainbow bracelet anywhere?” Ji Zhiyé propped her chin on her hand.
Wei Qin made a small sound. “Nope.”
Ji Zhiyé excused herself to the bathroom to regroup.
As she entered, Yan Run was already at the sink, washing her hands. Ji Zhiyé let out a low whistle.
“Looking for the bracelet?” Yan Run asked.
Ji Zhiyé coughed lightly. “Aren’t you?”
Yan Run grinned. “This show is produced by my family’s platform, and the director works for me. You think I wouldn’t already know where it is?”
Ji Zhiyé froze. Why hadn’t she thought of that? Maybe this touching confession segment had been prepared specifically for Yan Run and Yu Wenxi. So this is what bringing your own resources into a production looks like.
“Well, you two are already married. Why not let me have this one?” Ji Zhiyé lowered her voice.
Yan Run clicked her tongue twice. “I wouldn’t mind confessing twice.”
Ji Zhiyé was speechless. She tried a softer approach. “Second Miss Yan, for old times’ sake, why not hand it over? When the wedding comes, I’ll make sure you and your wife get the best table in the house, with a huge gift to match.”
Yan Run smirked. “As an heiress, you should be thinking like one.”
“Oh? You want to collaborate on something?” Ji Zhiyé raised a brow.
“The Ji family is the wealthiest in Lancheng. Why wouldn’t I?” Yan Run replied smoothly.
Ji Zhiyé extended her hand. “Done. You help me with this, and I’ll owe you one—name your price later, and I’ll deliver.”
Yan Run shook her hand. “Does that make us friends?”
Ji Zhiyé paused. Truth was, she had very few friends—Xiao Liangmu being the closest. She nodded. “I suppose so.”
“Honestly, you’re pretty straightforward. I’d like to be friends with you,” Yan Run said sincerely.
Ji Zhiyé smiled. “If you consider me a friend, then whatever you need, I’ll help.”
Yan Run’s eyes glinted. “Good. Then it’s settled.”
